I just saw for a second time the brutal murder of the Petit Family. I worked law enforcement and…read moreit's easy to blame all the members of the police department that were working that day but there was a specific order by the Chief of Police to NOT enter the home until he got there, a huge mistake by a micro managing police chief and by not allowing those officers on scene to make a determination to enter the residence of the victims, this could have had a much happier ending. We don't know what the officers on scene would have done, because of that police chiefs order, but just being on scene they could assess the situation better than the chief who was on the way to the crime scene. There was no reason to wait for the police chief when you have Sergeants and Lieutenants, that are subordinates to make that call. Cleary that delay prevented us from ever knowing what the outcome would have been if the order wasn't given and you had a team of officers brave enough to kick in the front door and possibly save that beautiful family. As it turned out the two suspects weren't even armed with guns and an entry could have easily resulted in an arrest and that beautiful family saved. But because the Chief gave an order that lost precious time during which these 3 beautiful women were killed and the house set on fire, we will never know. If the police had the house surrounded, how were the suspects even allowed to enter a vehicle in the driveway and almost get away, only ending after the family vehicle that they stole became disabled after crashing into several police cars. Then during a police press conference afterwards the Chief attempted to lie about the time line saying that the house was fully engulfed in flames when the first officers arrived, which was far from the truth and an attempt to save the chief from his awful decision making. These criminals set the fire only after they saw the police surrounding the home and again if the police were allowed to enter the home, the murders of these three beautiful woman probably would have been prevented and the unarmed suspects taken into custody. Its just a shame and to be honest, this tragedy falls squarely on the police chief who made that terrible decision to stand down and wait for him to arrive. He will have to look at himself in the mirror for the rest of his life. I sure hope he retired or was force out after this tragic incident.

They didn't find anything but I felt confident they could have dealt with it if they had. They have very professional officers who know how to deal with the community. Hopefully never have to call them again but would feel comfortable doing so. Police officers across the country could take a page out of the WPD book.

You make an appointment on line so everyone shows up during a particular time frame, everyone at this location is very friendly, considering they are dealing with scared and intimidated kids. The entire process is well organized and moves quick. Parents get to wait for their child in a parents waiting room. The kids walk out of the testing room across the hall from parents waiting area teary eyed or with a big smile! Great place! We will definitely return here with the last one in 5 years.

I had an exceptional experience with two officers on August 11th. A car repair shop had my son's…read moretruck for over 2 months and refused to let me take it. I called the police and requested an escort. The officers that escorted me to the shop made the process smooth and easy. The officers got there before me and had everything handled already when I got there. I am very grateful to have had such a positive experience with them. Unfortunately I had a less positive experience with another officer, the next day. He was literally screaming in my face as if I was a criminal over something I genuinely had no clue about. He literally kept yelling you knew you knew, like a child taunting me. I decided to not explain myself to someone committed to misunderstand me. I dealt with the consequences and moved on. Definitely not letting the experience from that 1 officer predict how I feel about the rest.

On November 23, 1855, he and his partner tried to break up a fight on Morocco Street. Before they made an arrest, both officers were badly beaten and Cummins passed away from his injuries the next day. So Cummins became the first New Haven Police Officer to die in the line of duty. He also became the first of 137 names memorialized on this extremely powerful monument honoring the Connecticut law enforcement officers across the decades of time that have fallen while protecting and defending the citizens of the Nutmeg State. Plans for the monument go back to 1985 when the Connecticut Police Chief's Association appointed a committee to establish a permanent memorial to honor the local, state and federal officers who paid the ultimate price. This striking granite memorial was dedicated in 1989 and stands on the grounds of the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden. It's an open walled gray granite square with 12 perimeter columns and a center black obelisk engraved with "Dedicated to those who have made the supreme sacrifice". There are engraved names, locations, and dates on the obelisk and the perimeter columns. An eternal flame on a black base is engraved with two words in gold - "Never Forget". The memorial site also includes two granite benches and two flagpoles flying the American flag, POW flag, and CT flag.

Because I'm a veteran, I've been entitled to many things. The Hartford Veterans Center which is actually in Rocky Hill is the best place to go for any issues as a veteran. This is a federally funded institution, but is not affiliated with the Veterans Administration Hospital. So they are in a sense a 3rd party federally funded institution. Come here if you have any issues. Whether it be educational, legal, financial, medical, social, psychological or vocational they got you covered. Many of those who work there have AT LEAST Masters degrees, being great resources in what they went to school for. Any issues I had they always found a solution. I had issues with receiving money for school and issues with compensation and pension and they were able to be that support for me. They were enthusiastic and relentless in ensuring that I got what I wanted. Sometimes these places that give you your benefits are stingy, so the Vet Center makes sure that you get what you deserve, are happy and justice is served.
