I love mini golf so we had to stop here. There is only one course but families were so kind to let us pass as we went through the course. The course was fun and challenging but a few holes were basic. Tropical Gardens Mini Golf is worth checking out if you are in the area.

This is a great place to spend an hour. The course is built up on the side of a hill and they make the most of the elevation. You wAlk up to start at the first hole and proceed along the ridge for several holes before golfing down one long steep hole called "the snake pit" just hoping to keep your ball on the course. There are several clever holes including one with blue carpet with the choice of three tunnels-choose wisely and score a hole in one. There are lots of fiberglass zoo animals around the course which help provide inspiration for the tropical name. In the end, we had fun with our group of 7. This place, while a bit older, seems well taken care of and the $7.50 price was good.

I didn't know it but apparently this place has been around for 30 years! Nice little oasis and well kept. Fun time with my friend and just challenging enough for two people who haven't played in years.

I like to think that most families have quirky l'il traditions unique to just them. I know we do. And one of 'em is hitting up mini-golf courses whenever we travel. Maybe this is 'cause in NYC mini-golf spots are a rarity. Plus the ones that do exist tend to be some combination of overpriced, overcrowded and inconvenient. But I digress: So yeah... Tropical Gardens turned out to be everything we hoped for. We're talking well-maintained, affordable ($8 pp, I believe), with a cute theme and progressively more challenging holes, of which there are 18. Proprietor and staff were friendly too. We got there right after it opened, and it grew more crowded as we played, so I'd suggest avoiding peak times if you don't want to feel rushed with people waiting behind you. In fact, I'd say that going either early or late is a good strategy in general. It's not very shaded and once the sun really hit, it began to feel uncomfortable. For some reason, my baseball loving kid didn't want to hit up the batting cages, but there's that too. All in all, this makes for a totally fun diversion whether you have kids or you're just a kid at heart. ps Should you work up an appetite after all that golfing, Rocky's Hot Chicken is a bit further on the same Patton Avenue strip. And after stuffing your face with Hot Chicken, you can hit up nearby Frostbite for some soft-serve.

Scorecard. Wow, what a great game.

Wow. This was a fun course. Nice lady working, beautiful day. A little hot though. Going into this game i was a little less nervous than I should have been. I thought this would be a walk in the park and I would win the round easily. Well, I was wrong. It proved to be challenging, as my most tenured and practiced opponent of the day, my band mate Mike, had brought his A game. Let's just say that the front 9 did not treat me so well. With a 5 on a par two at hole 5, "the Snake Pit", I had a lot of catching up today on the back 9. The back 9 started a little rough with a bogey on hole 10, "Tiger Leg." But I got right back into the gam with a HOLE-IN-ONE on hole 9, "Blue Lagoon." I was excited to say the least, but this celebration wouldn't be my last of the day. I sunk ANOTHER hole-in-one on hole 15, "Lava Flow." Overall I came up short by just one shot. I finished the course with a 43, Mike a 42, and the other two opponents, Taylor and Keith, finished with 50 and 51. Overall, it was a great game and a fun and challenging course. I will definitely be taking the course a little more seriously next time. Thanks you for your time. Facebook.com/AMUSEpunk

    Sunset from tropical gardens

I end up playing at Tropical Gardens at least once awake, so I call it my home court course. Although it's located in the heart of crazy Patton Avenue, once you wind your way up to the business, it feels really secluded and quiet. I've actually seen a beautiful sunset from here so you can't be mad at that! It's inexpensive, I want to say we always play for $16 for two but a rematch is only $3.50 a person if you need some revenge. They've done a lot with the terrain over there and made the holes really flat despite the course being on the side of a hill. The grass and landscaping are meticulously maintained and it appears they are in the middle of laying new green in most of the holes. With the first 5 or so holes being under trees, there are a lot of leaves covering those holes which stinks but you also can't have someone out there leaf blowing all day... There is a waterfall and a huge pond as part of the decor. It's that kind of water though where I shudder at the idea of accidentally falling into it. It's dark and a bit grimy so please never trip me around there. All in all, I really like vising Tropical Gardens and find the course the right mix of fun and challenging!

Tropical Gardens is a pretty cool place, tucked away behind Patton Ave. I have driven by several times and never realized the course was there. There are batting cages (softball and baseball), an arcade with pool tables, and of course miniature golf. They do accept credit cards. The course itself was a lot of fun, yet really challenging at times. There were a few hole in one shots, but they were few and far between. I did notice some previous comments about the place being rundown, which I didn't really didn't notice. It is a good couple of hours of entertainment for only a few bucks. Plus you get to enjoy the beautiful Asheville weather!

We had a good time today with this putt putt course. It definitely has seen some better days, but for the price was still a good time!

Nicely laid out course. Very challenging. Just the right amount of whimsy for adults and eye candy for the kids.

I have been here many times-mostly for pop up craft/art shows, once for a 20's themed birthday party and most importantly, for my own wedding rehearsal dinner. Renting the space for the rehearsal dinner was easy and the owners were super helpful and accommodating. Their contract is very clear and their prices are very, very reasonable! We had 50 people total for the event and when we arrived the night of the party, they had the space set up for us with their dining tables and lovely chairs arranged as well as a serving station and bar area. Their furniture is what makes this place so incredible really-they have absolutely beautiful mismatched furniture, vintage and rustic looking. This is the type of space that you see all over Pinterest. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a small event venue for a wedding or birthday party. I wish I had better photos to add to Yelp because it really is an absolutely gorgeous space!

I was told that renting it out on a weekday is super reasonable- only $65 an hour. You can't beat that! I love hosting large parties at my home, but I can never fit the amount of guests that I want in my tiny little home. Anyway, the venue was set up in a beautiful way- full of antique and vintage furniture items. They have restrooms, but I'm not sure if they have a kitchen. I've been told that they will set up the room however you'd like it. When I was there, they had out three very long tables and I think there were about 50 of us. They have a few parking spaces but I was able to park in the alley to the right of the building. Not sure if that's allowed. I will DEFINITELY be planning my next big event here! What a fun place!

The usual irony with…read moreFreemasonry is that these devotees of sacred architecture and geometry meet so often in shabby anonymous buildings with plate glass windows and acoustic ceiling tiles. No such irony here, friends. This particular Masonic Temple is a glorious celebration of detail and craftsmanship. Even the fuse box is beautiful, sitting in plain sight in a glass box in the stairwell, like a lost Joseph Cornell piece. Each doorknob is emblazoned with symbolism in bas relief. The ceiling is expansive, with groined arches recalling classic cathedrals. The original elevator is working, although I think most Americans don't know how to use old-style elevators anymore. The staircase is wide, and recalls the "I don't give a damn" set from Gone With the Wind. The real treasure is the 3rd floor theater. A round, domed room with a curving balcony, painted in dusky pink, chalk blue, and gilt. The acoustics are great, considering the age of the building. The star of the theater is the gorgeous backdrops. So ridiculously gorgeous, they risk upstaging whomever's performing. I've heard folklore (unsubstantiated, but believable) that these backdrops, themselves, are worth millions of dollars on today's market. Layer upon layer of hand-cut, hand-painted detail, that catches the light in amazing, dramatic ways. If you've ever been to the cyclorama in Atlanta, you might recognize a similar style, although the subject matter here isn't military stuff--it's romantic, pastoral, mystical. If you ever get a chance to go to anything at the Masonic Temple, go. Just go. Drop everything and go. Find a babysitter. Cancel your appointments. Go. Especially if you know the event will take place on the 3rd floor. You will be mindblown with awesomeness.
