I stopped in for a late lunch with a friend. Inside is bright, colorful, and clean. It was pretty empty. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. My friend ordered a buffalo chicken wraps. We both got the sunrise sunset smoothie. Everything came out super fast. I loved my quesadilla and my smoothie was delicious. My friend enjoyed her food as well. The staff was friendly. Unlike the Rivers Avenue location, this one doesn't offer a military discount. There's limited parking in the front, but there's a small lot behind the complex. read more

I've only tried the Mt Pleasant location of this wide chain eatery. The smoothies are solid. The Island Green with an add-in is my usual order. Often, I order a flatbread during the lunch hour. I appreciate the flatbreads are usually warm, fresh, and (usually) not drowning in pesto sauce. The real problem this location seems to face is staffing. If you want your smoothie with a side of disaffected teenager, this is the place. Daytime trips are usually more enjoyable because I believe the owner/manager (?) is on duty. We quite often come to this location but it has never been this bad. First while we were getting our order taken the guy taking are order just walked off. So another employee helped us finish our order she was the only decent worker there. We quickly got our smoothies but waited around 20 minutes for our food. While we were waiting on our food we could see them making it the guy making mine a peanut butter banana flatbread first got a banana on his knife and was hitting the knife against the flatbread. The bananas are normally sliced he stopped making it and started on my brother's sandwich. He put the bread in the toaster and when he took it out it was burnt and made the whole restaurant have a smell of something burnt. He then proceeded to poke the bread to see how burnt it was. After that he started to pick the burnt edges off. He didn't make another one and just finished it. However one of the two kind ladies working re made mine for me after she saw it cause he left it out and there were flies on it. Finally 25 minutes later we had our food. Normally I would have asked for them to remake the sandwich but we had already been there so long I didn't want to be in there anymore. I will not be returning anytime soon. read more

Yikes. Another user commented that everyone working seemed so miserable it's almost like someone died and they nailed it. No hellos, no smiles, no how can I help you etc. Everyone was just so unhappy. I can get over people being miserable but the service was equally terrible. My friend and I both ordered a smoothie for In Store, gave our names and sat down. 15 minutes goes by and the store is empty and we hadn't heard our names called or anyone step out. My friend went to investigate and found our smoothies just sitting on the counter. They were labeled for "in store" so there's no reason why they didn't call out our names at the very minimum. To top it off, tables were dirty and the trash can was overflowing that people were just placing their trash on the table next to the garbage. I really, REALLY wish these franchises could improve their customer service. I've been to locations in three different states and would describe my overall experiences as inattentive and disengaged. This one does not fall outside that description. Also, I grow so tired of all the signs that these franchisee feel are necessary to post. Train the employees and you will eliminate the need for 80% of the signs. I don't mind reminders or labeling spaces for delivery versus pickup. I'm talking about the ones that feel like they're scolding me because previous customers screwed up. They probably screwed up because the employees don't smile at you, greet you, make eye contact, show urgency and awareness while responding and anticipating customer's needs. So when customer's are left to figure it out/fend for themselves, mistakes are made. Don't make signs to compensate, call an employee meeting and teach your team customer service skills. Managers should work on the floor and ensure these behaviors are consistently taking place. Nevertheless, at least make sure they are wearing a uniform that differentiates them versus the customers. No one at this location had on anything identifying themselves as an employee of Tropical Smoothie. I know it's a scathing start to the review but c'mon, get it together. Here's the details, in short: 1.) Made online order for pickup, given time of 1:27 for pickup. 2.) Head inside location at 1:30 pm. See drinks in pickup but not food. Observe food prep person engaging more with the smoothie person than the actual making of orders. Seems chilled and relaxed, unencumbered by the large group of customers waiting inside. 3.) See a gaggle of girls ordering, who came in after me, receiving food orders. 4.) I have to get food prep person's attention who directs me to the food pick-up. I tell them the order that is sitting there is not my name. Food prep person asks what I ordered, wanders to the screen that pertains to the orders and looks confused. 5.) I've already wasted my time doing this review but this scenario goes on and on. No follow-up for me about where my food is aside from insinuating that I don't understand the pick-up procedure. 6.) Eventually, after further prodding and refusal on my part to go through an order with someone else's name on it, food person comes to the pick up area and hands me the bag. I guess they put the wrong receipt/name on the order and it was mine this whole time!! No apology, no "how can I make this better?"...nothing. So here is my official Dear John letter. I just...love it. My fave combo is a detox island green with 1/2 turbinado (or none if I'm feeling REAL healthy) and a buff chx wrap. The wraps are always fresh and pretty light, which is hard to do when its a buffalo chicken wrap. I usually feel heavy and gross when I eat things like that but this has grilled chicken and a light ranch so its perfect. The smoothies are a meal in themselves, and you can add tons of cool stuff like probiotics or vitamins. I often order for delivery at like 730AM and have the smoothie for breakfast and leftover wrap for lunch. This place is one of my go-to's! read more

I thought only I had a bad experience when going to this tropical smoothie but glad to see I wasn't crazy. Me and two friends went to this location for a lunch. The workers were so unprofessional and clearly didn't care about customer service. We walked in and no one even acknowledged that we were in the store. There were 3 people at the counter and after one girl telling another guy to grab someone to take our orders for a minute he finally went. When he came back, no one followed behind him. Another minute later he finally went back and grabbed a girl. I'm pretty young and work in the food industry and was almost appalled at the way they acted towards costumers. The girl taking our orders almost looked angry we were even there ??? Once we ordered we sat down and waited for our food. There was 2 kids that looked like they were in middle school. My two friends and I could hear the 4 people behind the counter talking bad about them, and I'm sure they could hear too. One girl, who seemed to be the manager was so unprofessional my mind was blown. Talking so loud so everyone could hear her about how every worker was late and how everyone doesn't do their job... Meanwhile she wasn't doing anything either. My other friend who works in the food industry was also shocked about the experience in there. so disappointed. i accidentally placed my order to this tropical smoothie instead of the one i meant to, and when i called to change the location and get a refund, they would not give it to me. when i asked to speak to a manager, they never transferred me to a manager. the girl on the phone did say that because the app updated, it asks you twice about the location so they no longer do refunds on wrong locations. however, i did not order through the app and was not asked twice. when i told her this, she still did not refund me. this is ridiculous, $13 does not make or break a business, i am a college student and can't afford to waste $13 on food i'm not getting, and i should have been refunded. read more
