This is not a five star hotel. Don't expect that, but it has everything you need with a dash of quirky humor and reasonable prices. Overall rating - 4.7/10 Girlfriend and I stayed here when visiting Richmond for our 3 year anniversary. We didn't want to splurge on the fanciest of hotels; however, we didn't want to go cheap either, hence we stayed at Tru by Hilton. It really seemed like a nice place to stay based on the pictures, we were wrong. We spent $119 on the following with our discount through work. I will rate it on the three following areas: Cleanliness - 3/10, the sheets and bed area were quite clean and very comfy. We appreciated no carpet in the room, adding to the cleanliness. The odor in the place really got to us, yes we know pets are allowed, but you would think they would offer ways to reduce and/or eliminate the smell. The whole place smelled very musty (aside from our room and the staircase). The bathroom was the sticking point on our overall cleanliness score. Upon getting in the shower we were presented with what appeared to be black mold, not happy about that at all, the towels also were not the cleanest, with my towel having dog hair attached to it as well as black spots. Hospitality - 7/10, I'd say average here. Nothing amazing but definitely nothing bad at all. I can't comment too much as we only stayed one night. Breakfast - 4/10 We appreciate hotel chains that offer breakfast as it's a simple way to get going on the morning. The breakfast here was very lackluster especially for a chain that is under the Hilton name. Eggs and sausage were very waxy and even slightly cold. The pancake maker made underdone pancakes (best thing at breakfast sadly). Oatmeal was very bad. We don't expect amazing breakfast by any means, this is purely just our score compared to other hotels that offered breakfast. read more

This hotel is not worth the price. They never cleaned our room once during a 5 day stay. I had to go down & ask the receptionist for towels. The bathroom had mold. The bed is very uncomfortable. Asked for an extra blanket & received a fitting sheet with a bed skirt. The pillows are a ball of cotton. Would not recommend by any means. read more

I am extremely pleased with my overall stay and loved the Tru hotel experience. The entire staff really added to this favorable review. Genuinely friendly, helpful and kind, and you feel like an honored guest during your stay. The hotel has a modern, vibrant, trendy feel, design and layout you will see in more expensive boutique hotels. No closets or drawers, but plenty of creative useful space. No wasteful mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soaps, but a more Eco-friendly clean and youthful dispensers. With this being said, it does not have all of the amenities as a full Hilton, but it has everything and more than you would need. I did not use the workout facility but did use the common areas and made sure to take an evening swim in the pool. That was fun for me! The only real negatives I could say is that the electric blinds were not fully functioning but were ok (the hotel was aware of that for this room). Also, the toilet was slightly wobbly but nothing really to complain about. Those two detailed observations had no negative impact on my stay whatsoever. For the weekend I traveled it was not the cheapest in the surrounding Richmond, Kentucky hotels, but a very good price and it's a Hilton Hotel. I plan on staying only at this Tru Hilton whenever I can when I am in Richmond. That is how impressed I was for the price point, quality, the look and feel of the hotel, and the amazing staff. read more

Typical for hotels that allow dogs, there was a lot lacking. The front service staff, well accommodating and very friendly, we're also unprofessional. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean, but overall the hotel was dated, upgrades were sloppy, there is no elevator to the second floor, and the breakfast was non-descript. read more

I love this brand. For those who aren't familiar, this brand is a new Hilton brand that is geared to millenials who are on a budget. So.... the price point is lower than many Hilton properties and gives you breakfast. So from the entrance the lobby is bright, refreshing, and younger (let's not play millennial are getting older) adults. There is a pool table, large screen TVs, and charging work stations. The seating is also funky and comfortable. The rooms themselves are smaller, with unique storage solutions. They also are more eco conscience with soap dispensers instead of individual bottles (that no one uses but takes home). The breakfast is quite good. It isnt like a buffet with make you own omelettes, but better than choice hotels. Many ways to customize as well. My biggest issue is the pool. It was salt instead of chlorine (which is ok)... but it was cold.... and not sure why they didnt invest in a hot tub (if it is geared to millenials I think the hot tub would trump pool). read more

Extremely disappointing! Unappealing check-in process with a curt front desk agent, who checked us into the wrong room type & gave no further assistance in fixing that mistake. Hairs and stains in the sheets & pillows, stains on the towels, dust everywhere, malfunctioning door that does not close unless slammed or pushed..... This may be an economy-style hotel built for a quick stay, but that doesn't equate to a lack of service and quality. I recommend trying any other hotel in the area before booking a stay at this location! read more

My wife and I were in town for a concert, and we stayed here so we wouldn't have to drive a long distance at night. The TV in the room was large, the A/C worked great, and the bed was comfy. The way the room is laid out makes sense; lots of smart storage to make the best use of space for our king bed room. Many of the outlets also have USB ports for block-free device charging. Our room had a tiny mini-fridge, no microwave, and a decent shower. We're well-rested and ready to hit the road. Would definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed here for a weekend visiting a friend. Location is easy to get to, staff was super nice, and the place had a trendy, laid back feel. The bed and pillows were very comfy, and hot water worked great. Everything seemed extremely clean. My only issue was there was no way to make coffee in the room?? They have 24/7 free coffee in the lobby which is nice, but when I wake up, I want to be able to have coffee while still looking like a troll in my room. I was going to settle and get the coffee the night before and just warm it up in the morning....but there is also no microwave. A coffee pot or single serve seems like an obvious thing that needs to be added. Other than that, all was good! read more

This hotel has some of the RUDEST workers i've ever been around. They were very rude to us because we came to breakfast at 8:50 not knowing it closed at 9. The lady asked me if i knew it closed at 9 which i replied no and then asked to speak to my coach. I told her that he was asleep and she replied with "Oh he's a man?" Like do you have a problem with that? Ugh I can't put into words how upset I am right now. Also, this hotel has one of the most poorly taken care of pools i have ever seen. Not totally a mess but not the standard I'm accustomed to from other stays at a Tru. Not good first impression as the flooring on the lower level/entrance was dirty. On our way to the elevator there was a broken drinking fountain dangling off the wall and an air vent was coming off the wall. When we arrived at our room, the door had been left open. My husband had to go downstairs for toilet paper as there was not much left. In addition the shower shelf was separating from the wall and there were splatters along the walls in both the bathroom and the sleeping area. read more

The small non-profit board I work with has quarterly meeting in Richmond. For the first time we are meeting at the Tru. They have a small breakroom they are letting us use as meeting space and it is perfect for our group, a small sink, bathrooms right outside the meeting room and coffee available all day in the lobby. The sleeping rooms are minimalistic but bright, modern,extremely comfortable bedding and all the amenities you need, soap, shampoo, hair dryer small fridge. No microwave but there is one in the lobby guests have access to. The lobby is very open and welcoming with a variety of seating arrangements, connections for laptops or phone charging and lots of fun stuff . There is a pool table, board games, big screen TV and a super friendly staff. Great location right off the interstate. Breakfast is included with multiple options, cold cereal, pastries, fruit, juices, etc. I would recommend the Tru for work or leisure travel. read more

Stayed here this past week for the first week of four for training in Richmond. Hotel is super clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast bar of the morning is amazing. Haven't tried the fitness center out but going to on next weeks stay. Very close to restaurants and easy to get to from interstate. It's a smaller concept of Hilton but that is what the chain of TRU by Hilton are. Large shower and bathroom and beds are very comfortable. Glad my employer booked this hotel as I am the first of us to stay here. Already booked the rest of the employees for here for this years training for them. read more

We've stayed here for a week and a half. I enjoyed my stay, but have a few things to say. I'm going to start with the rooms, the rooms had decent space. No microwave which is disappointing for the price you pay. But bed was nice, shower was large, and tv was amazing. The room overall was kinda empty, but that made room for people that came over. The next day we went to breakfast and it was decent. But they had these awful chicken apple sausages, and they taste like pure apple! The lobby is nice, lots of stuff to do, games, sitting area, pool table ( which I've never seen before ) I loved the lobby! It was my favorite place to hang out! But then I went down to the front desk, and the guy named Neil was rude and pushy. I asked him questions and I guess where I'm a teen he thought I didn't understand a word he said and sounded it out for me ( even when I understood completely) other staff were sweet and understanding! They were very helpful and answered every question I had. But Neil was just rude to me. And my mother had sorta the same experience with him. He just had a sour attitude, for someone to greet people and set an example for the hotel. He didn't set a very good one for us. But overall our stay was great, would stay here again.
