For this Fourth of July weekend, I was on a quest to find the best underwhelming hotel I've ever stayed at, and I can confirm that Comfort Suites in the heart of Richmond puts the competition to sleep. However, the mattress I was resting my nonexistent body mass on wouldn't let me experience that same result. Between that and a hillbilly couple arguing outside at 1:17 a.m., I was cooked. The room was also as crusty as my eyes after not sleeping all night. Legend has it that the bathroom door hasn't been able to lock properly since the Declaration of Independence was signed. The air conditioning worked fabulous, though. The lady at the counter was friendly and accommodating despite us interrupting her dinner. We also managed to make time for breakfast the next morning, stuffing our sweaty faces with fluffy waffles and Bold Coffee. If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. Worst place I've ever stayed in. Never got cleaning service. Toilet is broken. Walls are jank. Only one of the light switches work in the bathroom. The shower only has one setting and it's the most powerful setting. The bathtub has no plug. You only get 2 towels upon arrival. The wifi is consistently bad. Nobody is ever at the front desk. The pool is always full of unsupervised children. Just overall and awful experience and I will never ever be back to this hotel chain again read more

Checked-in, got to our room and our toilet didn't flush and there were 3 light switches in the bathroom which 1 worked. Went down to the front desk to be told she could call maintenance but she could get a plunger as it maybe a while for maintenance. I explained it's not a problem for the plunger, the toilet doesn't work. I proceeded to ask if their was a public bathroom we could use because she also stated they were completely booked. She then provided another room to us. This room's toilet works but the same thing with the switches. There are stains on the couch and the air doesn't work in this room. The outside looks a bit rough; weeds, dumpster, hole in the ceiling where you enter. I walked in hopeful because I had already reserved, and paid based only on the price and that both dogs and breakfast were included for no extra fees. There was a sign on the door requesting to be excused for the renovation mess so again hopeful. The inside lobby area wasn't bad at all. Interesting high back chairs, very friendly front desk staff. We got assigned a room, went up. No issues with the elevator, everything looked and smelled clean. Room looks to have fairly new carpet. There is a couch and desk area, a kingsized bed, tv, fridge and microwave. So far so good! My son enjoyed the pool, it's heated so I actually joined him. There are multiple restaurants and a Meijer grocery store near by. The highway is very close. I would stay here again. read more

This place was awful, people everywhere screaming outside by the pool, the pool was Green and mucky. People don't know how to clean and they need to have a quiet hour. Bed bugs everywhere, nothing worked, the shower was brown. read more

I would call this hotel adequate, although they certainly have some strong competition right across the street. The Staff seemed friendly and professional. The rooms are not too dated, although none of my crew could get the humidity out of our rooms and they felt sticky and moldy. The bathroom was fine, with the exception of some stuff on the shower walls and shower curtain. I would not normally complain but rather looked like boogers on the wall. So there's that. read more

Upon entering, the lobby is clean as is the breakfast area. However, the hallways are in serious need of repair. The carpets are filthy and stained. The walls are scuffed up. Some of the doors don't line up with their frames. There is a single elevator which is extremely slow and rickety. I was surprised to find that my room was in very nice shape. Everything was very clean, including the carpet. The furniture was clean and unmarred. The bed was very comfortable. I got a jacuzzi room at a very good price. The tub was very clean. When I filled it, I noticed there was great pressure and tons of hot water. The hotel is situated just off the highway in a high traffic area. I forgot my white noise machine, but I kept the AC fan on and didn't hear a thing in the night. Breakfast was decent. There was whole fruit, hard boiled eggs, three brands of yogurt (yoplait, activia, and oikos), oatmeal packets with a topping bar, coffee, and a juice dispenser. The bread station had white and wheat bread for toasting, bagels, muffins, mini cinnamon rolls, pop tarts, and biscuits. There was also cereals. The hot station housed cheese omelets, sausage, sausage gravy, and waffle irons. This hotel has great potential, but needs some serious maintenance. read more

I have quarterly meetings that we hold in the breakfast nook of the Comfort Suites. The board members also stay at the hotel for the night during these meetings. The hotel staff are gracious, helpful and friendly. The breakfast that is included in the cost of the sleeping room is always fresh and good. They have waffles, eggs, breakfast meat, pastries, fruit, cereal, juice, milk and coffee all day long. The hotel rooms are spacious and clean and a ressonalbe price. The beds are comfortable and linens are nice. Free WiFi is also included. The hotel is located directly off the interstate, easy to get to and there are plently of resturants and shopping within a 2 mile radius. The lobby is modern and a good place to congregate to visit with friends/coworkers. read more

Dirty entrance, hallways, and room. My room's peephole glass was missing, the key cards didn't work at first, dust was everywhere and you could see what was not wiped clean, and I found a soap wrapper next to the sink faucet! How the hell do you miss that? The fridge didn't have controls; the knob was missing. I saw all of this in less than fifteen minutes before waking next door to Bob Evans for breakfast-I can't trust a hotel breakfast at a place this dirty. On the plus side the staff are friendly and the hotel is near shopping and food all within walking distance. Still this place needs a match, fire, and a new building. read more

Two stars is generous. On first glance the place seems ok. We got in late and were tired, but it only took a couple minutes to realize that the rooms were GROSS! The floor hadn't been vacuumed. There were crumbs and a used qtip on the carpet... which was also stained all over. The wall between the beds and sofa were all beat up and haphazardly patched with drywall mud, but never finished. The pullout sofa was disgusting. Part of the mattress was missing on the bottom. The door to the room didn't close tight. The trash can out the side door was overflowing with trash. There was dog poop in several places in the grass. I've stayed in a lot of hotels, but this one was up there as one of the worst. read more

This place was not comforting at all. I came off the highway and got a room but the room was dirty, urine on the toilet, stains on the sheets and dirt on the floor, we were switched to a different room which was worse than the first room, so we were given another room which had the same problem and when I spoke to the front desk about it , I was told in a very rude manner that I had to leave because there was no resolution to the problem. DIRTY! I got to my room and I check the bed as I usually do when arriving at a hotel. There were 2 yellow stains that look like pee and 3 orange spots that look like they were from Cheetos. I called the front desk and told them about it and the attendant told me to come down and get a new blanket. I went down to the front desk to find my "clean" comforter sitting on the front desk that everybody has been touching (In the middle of a pandemic). I said to the front desk attendant "What's up with the dirty comforter? Did they not clean it or something?" He says "probably not". I said "That is disgusting" and he replies with "ok." OKAY?!?! He did not apologize once or offer anything for the inconvenience. The new "clean" blanket had stains but smelt clean. The phone has the same orange crumbs on it. The shampoo was half empty and placed as it was new. As a frequent traveler, I have never experienced worse customer service. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. This hotel is awful. Our room smelled like smoke and half of the lights did not work. The AC was turned off and it was 78 degrees in the room in the middle of August. Not to mention, one of the staff members stole some of my items. I left my toiletry bag there on a Wednesday night and had to call 9 times before they located it. When I got it back, three items were missing including my new perfume and face lotion, both brand name items. read more

Before I criticize the hotel, I want to note that the staff was friendly, no complaints there. However, there just seems to be a lackluster effort on the part of the hotel to be anything better than mediocre. The room was humid. The workout room was scorching and had no towels and water cups every time I went in there. The pool was dirty and the hot tubs jets did not work. Once, upon entering the elevator, I noticed a puddle of urine on the floor. I have to travel to Richmond regularly and I will avoid this hotel in the future . read more

Even though this hotel has been renovated not too long ago it seems to be operating on a limited budget. There was no mattress pad on our bed, the linens were thin and dingy, and the bathroom smelled like urine. The managers did their best to correct these issues and our bathroom did get a more thorough cleaning. Price wise, we wouldn't expect quality but we always expect cleanliness and professionalism. This hotel needs improvement on both counts. One star is too many. read more

When we checked your website at midnite and saw there were rooms available plus saw your empty parking lot, we thought we would be staying there last night also. But when you gave me a plethora of excuses as to why we couldn't have a room at midnite...from "my computer system is shut down for the night" and "Comfort Suites computers don't all match up so they don't know what we have available here" to "no one calls us to check how many rooms we have" to finally "I said there's no rooms here" - we took our business to the Quality Inn across the street. They were more than happy to provide us with a room and a good nights sleep. Bad business management Comfort Suites! read more

I wish I had consulted Yelp directly before booking this room. I went by reviews on another website, and could not have been more misdirected. I had a terrible experience both with a rude desk clerk, and with a ridiculously bright room that is not outfitted with anything but curtain shears. The room has a terrible smell, that must be mold? Mildew? The sheets were sandpapery and stiff. The bathroom trash had remnants of someone else's trash in it. (A part of me understands wanting to save trash bags and save the environment, but with *bathroom* trash? I don't want the remnants of someone else's bathroom trash left behind. That's nasty.) The toilet barely flushed, and you had to stand there holding the lever down the whole time, or it wouldn't work. This was a very sub-par facility. The window are oriented toward the *interrogation level streetlights* directly outside the windows, and there are not blinds to shut out even a sliver of the light. I was hoping I was just not "figuring out" how to close the blinds - surely there was something more than a transparent sheer? - so I called the front desk and was told there was nothing to be done. In my exhausted state, I asked "Are you serious?" (It was with a hopeless, exhausted tone and not the least bit snarky...) The desk clerk brought the snark, though, and said "Whatta ya want me to do? Come install blinds?" He didn't apologize or sympathize in any way. He was just rude. I wish I could post a photo I have of the level of light in the room. It was ridiculous. And all that is bad enough. But in the end, I tried to contact the manager about the matter, hoping for at least an apology or some bare minimum of customer-service-minded interaction. My messages when unacknowledged. This hotel does not care about providing a positive guest experience. If you are unfortunate enough to give them your money, that is all they care about, and you will be hard-pressed to get any attention from them. If I could give no stars, I would!! Do not come here. As soon a we arrived the side door of the building was broke, so any one could just walk in to this "wonderful" hotel. We walk into the hallway and I already know what to expect! It's filthy! Enter our room, the smell of mildew- mold is strong! At this point, I want to cry and Just leave. For a non-smoking hotel, the 2nd floor smelled entirely of smoke. Extremely dirty. Drapery torn and won't close all the way. Cable goes in and out. Only thing the front desk attendant did to solve the smoke issue was open a corridor window all the way which is not safe for the kids. If only a half star review was give able. read more

Yesterday afternoon we called the Comfort Suites to ensure they had 7 rooms open for our group. We were ensured over the phone that they had availability. Three couples from our group went online and booked rooms through our rewards points and the rest were planning on getting a room when we arrived. Our group consisted of 10 active duty law enforcement, retired law enforcement and federal Air Marshals. When we arrived Ryan at the front desk checked in one couple from the group and then proceeded to say that he was told to not book anyone else that there were no rooms available. This was proven to be a lie. We all were able to go online and book rooms in which Ryan told us not to do because it would "f**k up his system and he would have to deny other customers rooms if they needed them." The parking lot had 3 CSX vehicles and a older white dodge caravan sitting right outside the front door with 4 flat tires. It's sad that customers are turned away and treated so horribly. We all are rewards members and several of the men in our groups regularly use comfort suites (several times a month). We will all be contacting corporate also regarding this issue. It's sad that law enforcement is discriminated against. If I could have gave less than one star I would have. read more

Came in last minute one night on my way home from a roadtrip and the night employee was very nice. He recommended places to eat for dinner and was just a real nice guy. The room was great except for a little bit of wallpaper peeling off in the corner but no big deal I am sure they will fix it up. My room had a jacuzzi which was a plus. Woke up early to breakfast downstairs and everything was nice and clean. There is the typical breakfast spread with waffles,cereal, toast, eggs, etc. read more
