My recently widowed mother (age 86) drove back to Steinhatchee, FL after hurricane Helene to retrieve her late husband's ashes. Kevin with Tru Tree Services SHOWED up at her house within minutes (I suspect he was at the check point waiting for those returning) of her arrival. She was hysterical and had my equally upset sister with her. They did not realize the extent of damage (walls cut to studs and 90% of her belonging are gone) and were obsessed with accessing the house...there was a tree down in driveway. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He gave them an estimate for $4000 dollars and said the work would be done Monday or Tuesday.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My sister, out of state and her financial fiduciary, sent a text on Sunday at 1300 with instructions to NOT do the work. However...surprise, it was "already done". [[HIGHLIGHT]]We tried to negotiate down to $2000, but he said there would be a lean placed on the house...but gave us a 25% "discount" and accepted $3000.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We are filing a claim with state for elderly exploitation. My oot sister and I both have many large trees on our property, and by no stretch of the imagination was this a $4000 job. Interestingly, we cleaned out the house ourselves with the help of many neighbors/locals and NOT ONE person would accept money. This man is horrible and we will do all possible to have him held accountable for his exploitation of a newly widowed (8 weeks) elderly woman with limited income and NO FLOOD insurance. read more
