Great experience using True aim for my CCW class. I used the online instruction they provide for the class portion and written test. This was very convenient for me so I could do it in 3 hour blocks over a week period. The shooting test was great and actually an enjoyable experience. Dennis is an experienced firearms instructor and a talented teacher. You're there to take a shooting test but it feels more like a class, you get a lot of great lessons and instruction like a beginner's shooting class. Top Notch Training. I worked with Shelly to get in for my CCW Renewal and she was super accomodating while working with me because of my schedule. We were looking for introductory information and instruction as we begin our search as first time gun buyers. If you are seeking firearms training or CCW certification that consists of instructors dressed up in Battle Dress Uniform's who are seemingly gearing up for deployment then this might not be the instructor you are looking for. Instead, if you are seeking an instructor that is willing to work with you on a one on one basis by challenging you mentally with real life scenarios thereby, preparing you for a split second decision that will impact you for the rest of your life then this is the instructor for you. Dennis will prepare you by first setting the stage with scenarios and running Q&A sessions to best determine your frame of mind and general background knowledge. He then takes you through a slow walk of the repercussions of your decision making process. Following the scenarios there are dry fire sessions whereby, you will learn how to effectively handle the firearm. This is a step by step process that ensures complete hand gun safety. All in all, I cannot say enough about the professionalism Dennis portrayed. He makes you feel very comfortable without any pretense. Teaching proper gun safety takes someone with a great deal of patience and understanding. Again,if you are seeking a one and done program led by instructors punching out cookie cutter presentations just to get your certification then this is not the program for you. For personal reasons, I wanted to know the basics of using a handgun. Dennis at True Aim helped me go over the basics of using a handgun including the components to a handgun, loading and unloading a hundgun, proper stance, answered any questions I had, and helped to critique my firing manner in a very observant and calm manner. What a positive experience! Dennis is a fantastic teacher and happened to be one of the best deals in Ventura County as well. I saw him for the CCW course and was pleasantly surprised by the depth and breadth of his knowledge as well as him not explaining thing I know already. He worked with my prior knowledge and training of firearms, as opposed to against it, so I could incorporate my existing good practice and muscle memory into what he taught me. Selecting a firearms trainer, with little prior experience, can be daunting. Is it too early to call a trainer? Do we know too little? Will the trainer be aggressive or intimidating? While I can't speak for other trainers, Dennis made all of these fears vanish. Not only was Dennis military on time (few minutes early), he is clearly extremely knowledgeable, yet gentle enough to walk someone -- who has never held a gun before -- through the basics of firearms. Dennis is clearly a pro. You are left wanting to know more knowledge because you know that Dennis has so much to offer. VERY IMPORTANT: Don't expect to call Dennis and go directly to the range to start shooting. I had that false impression and I am so glad I followed Dennis's advice.
