I finished the 5-week PSS program at Covered 6 and was supposed to continue into the EP program, but they ended up canceling it last minute because of low enrollment. I had already planned everything around it--my schedule, my budget, even housing--and now I feel totally stuck. I spent a lot of time and money expecting to complete the full training, and it honestly feels like a waste. The program itself was okay, but I didn't get the sense that the instructors took safety or professionalism as seriously as they should. There were moments that felt more like messing around than real training. It's frustrating because I was hoping to start a new career, and now I'm left with half a program and no clear next step. With an upcoming change from the BSIS (Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, California will soon require those with a baton permit to 'renew' their existing permits and take a BSIS approved course from a security school. The old requirement was to take a class, pay the security school whatever fee they charge, pay the BSIS for the permit and it was good for as long as you kept your guard card current. Those days are over, hence the reason for looking for a training provider. I found Covered 6 years ago for their Physical Security Specialist program but their rep didn't tell me the cost, only that "We take the GI bill", so I was under the impression that they're not your typical dog-and-pony or podunk "security school" but rather a boutique/bespoke company that trains former military and/or law enforcement for executive protection. Since they have the BSIS logo on their website, I thought they might be an approved/accredited trainer, so using their "contact us" form, I asked if they have a baton curriculum that satisfies the BSIS requirements. That was two weeks ago and I have yet to receive a reply. Either my message fell through cracks or they don't offer baton training. 2-star impartiality review due to no reply from the business. read more

I am speaking on the "Cybersecurity Technician" training. First off, it's not. You will be taught by Zoom (which is conveniently missing from their website. There also is no "apprenticeship program" to speak of. Both of the instructors live in the Midwest. That means you will be there from 7-4. With 2 breaks throughout the day. Oh yea, they tell you that basically no one will pass the course. There are no labs. It's a nice building, if you want to be a security guard or bodyguard. The VA reps at the school are terrible. The one who promised jobs, and apprenticeship that were never planned to be started Guest speaker? Yea, the owner came in and bragged about how much money he makes. Another was a shill buddy of his trying to sell cut-rate suits. You do not support Vets. I wasted my time and GI Bill for nothing except vouchers for tests. Don't go there if you have no experience. I was admonished for "being too far behind". The instructors do not stop for questions, the only hands on lab was doing what your job will be upon graduation. Computer tech, or call center You will be staying in a crappy hotel sharing a room. Which strikes me as odd, figuring the VA is paying for it. The only positive experience was with the class coordinator. Be truthful, do not advertise as a "cybersecurity technician". Because you do not deliver. Stop calling me asking if I have a job as a "cybersecurity technician". Total scam. If you have no experience prepare to be slammed. I would put them up there with DeVry. There is no reason they should be able to collect money of the "Cybersecurity Technician" training All this stuff they used is available online. Don't waste your time. read more

Awesome experience! Spent the weekend with them and learned as much mentally as physically. Tactics training on Saturday and a day at the range on Sunday. We had 4 guys and they tailored the weekend to our desires. Limits were tested but we were always safe. Would love to explain the weekend but there was just to much excitement and variety to list it all. Saturday's fun at the Covered Six location involved tactical training, air soft fights, amazing simulations involving interaction, and just awesomeness. Sunday's fun at the range included glocks, rifles, shotguns, etc. Again, always felt safe while constantly being test. Long story short...YES! Call them, start an adventure. They will tailor anything to your needs then challenge you physically and mentally to make you stronger and more confident. (They also do work/school trainings, security, and workplace safety. Covered 6 is an outstanding organization, I recently graduated from their 5 week physical security academy, all the instructors are professionals. I recommend that anyone who is serious and want to make security, or law enforcement their career choice, reserve yourself a spot in their Academy. I'm a former Marine, I have to say this security academy is the greatest in this country. I believe Covered 6 is the only security academy that has a 200 hr of Security training, other Academy's are just your 40 hr. Guard Card courses. One slip up on them though, I was told that I was going to get a class in building a resume, and job placement, well I didn't. ;^\ Hey it's their first Academy, it'll get a lot better. I recently took the basic carbine class. I had such a great experience with the Covered 6 pistol class, I figured I wouldn't be disappointed with the carbine class. I figured right! It was an awesome day! I learned a lot and had a blast! Robert, Chris and Dave are all great guys, and great instructors! The class was awesome, worth every penny plus some! They covered everything from gun parts to positions to shooting technique. It was as thorough as I could have hoped for. I would recommend to anybody interested in learning their carbine. I am an NRA instructor and took a two day home defense course with these guys. It was good (Better than most) and well done. It was NOT an NRA course and not as detailed, but was more hands on, but that is OK. Courses serve a purpose and as a home defense course this is a good one. Over the years, I've attended on-site and work related training with Covered 6. They are a great tight group of guys that provide real world and very specialized instruction. Every class that I've taken with them has been affordable, full of useful information and overall fun which is a great reason to train with them. While I've attended active shooter training and a surveillance course with them, I will review their handgun instruction I've done. Their instructors are all very knowledgeable and professional individuals, they literally treat you with respect and are very patient with your questions. Their classes always incorporate real world tactics and scenarios to add to the functionality of the training. I would highly recommend attending their shooting courses if you're looking to receive shooting instruction for the first time or are looking to build upon more advanced tactics. Went back for the basic carbine class and had another great experience. The class was pretty small, but there was every level of experience represented. There was a young kid there with his dad and a guy who had just bought a carbine and never fired it, all the way up to some really proficient-looking guys with tricked-out guns. One of them killed the speed drill -- if he hadn't let me check out his rifle later, I would have guessed he was shooting on full auto. Then there was me in the middle. knowing how to shoot OK but not too familiar with the AR platform. The class covered everything from parts, zeroing and shooting positions to how to adjust your aim for the mechanical offset at close range, failures and manipulations, shooting on the move, and multiple targets. I can say now that I know everything I need to know about my rifle to be confident in using and maintaining it -- I looked up some cleaning videos on YouTube to fill in the blanks. Again, what I really appreciate about the training I've gotten at Covered 6 is the style of teaching: no unnecessary stress, concepts broken down and explained, and a fun atmosphere. All in all a clean package for some really high-level instruction. read more

My boyfriend bought me a private lesson to learn handgun basics. Our instructor Jeanne was absolutely amazing. In addition to gun safety and shooting basics, she emphasized tactical training for real-world scenarios in which you might need to use the skills you're acquiring. I felt safe, comfortable, and informed throughout the entire day, and both the classroom and range time were well-paced. I simply can't recommend Jeanne and Covered Six enough. I recently attended my third Covered 6 course and once again was wowed by the quality, the patience of the instructor, the level of knowledge and the way in which that knowledge was transferred to the students. Chris Dunn and his team are awesome. There was a senior senior citizen in the group who was having trouble getting his weapon loaded and aligned. Chris spent one-on-one time with him and explained everything in a simple and empathetic manner-good show. Some instructors in other companies have a military attitude and talk down to the students but this is not the case with Chris and Covered 6. If you are looking for hands-on, realistic training from instructors that have first-hand experience, look no further. I am just a regular guy with no military experience, but I have trained with many different groups from different backgrounds. The way that Covered 6 goes about training is the best that I have encountered because they do not waste time dwelling on the redundant Hollywood stuff, they focus on what works and what will stay with you in a stressful situation. I have taken several classes with them now, and will continue to train with them as well as recommend my friends to them. In addition to firearms training, I recently attended their EP 1 class (Executive Protection). From my observation, many people show up for this class with many different backgrounds ranging from regular guys like myself, to ex-Special Forces. The common denominator with the successful ones is an open, realistic mindset, and showing up ready to learn something new no matter what you have seen or done in the past. By the end of the class even the most hardened and experienced EP guys walked away with something new. In my opinion and experience as a business owner, if you expect to show up as a hot head flashing your resume around with a closed mind and wanting people to throw jobs at you, think again.. I have been shooting for about 6 months and I thought I had all the basics down. I have a friend who said you should take a class from the guys at Covered 6. He said Robert and Boyan are trained professionals and you will get a lot out of it. Well I went to the class yesterday 4-13-2013 and it was the smartest shooting decision I have ever made. They started with a classroom setting in which we learned the basics of proper gun rules, now I heard them all before but the way they presented them made them make even more sense. We then proceeded to the wharehouse were we learned how to draw from a holster, load a gun etc. Again I knew the basics of that but now I understand why things are done. We then proceeded to the range, there we all got personal one on one instruction. With me, they found I was griping the gun wrong causing my rounds to go down and to the right. Within a few hours I was shooting straight, understanding the right way to approach the targets I was aiming at. I cant wait to practice what I have been taught and advance to the next class. I just attended a covered 6 tactical class. I am former law enforcement (LAPD). I have to say that these guys know their....stuff. As an ex cop, we learned some basic tactical scenario type techniques in the academy and virtually nothing in the field. Covered 6 goes far beyond. It was very worthwhile and taught by experts whom are either former or current law enforcement themselves. On a side note, before writing this post, I read the previous post. This guy's a moron. He blames covered 6 for not being able to find work. It sounds like to me that he was expecting Covered 6 to cure whatever numerous deficiencies he has that is actually preventing him from obtaining employment. Covered 6 does not guaranty employment. They give a certificate that you completed their tactical training course. There is no State certified course available, so the certification, simply shows potential or current employers that you have had extra expert tactical training. The first sentence out of the reviewer's mouth is that most of the class was military or police. Well, that says it all. He has 'Law Enforcement Envy.' And he felt small...that's all...and he blamed the company. Law enforcement and Military attending the course shows you how good it is, because we don't attend classes that don't work for obvious reasons... Also, the company offers beginning gun classes and self protection for the home...so don't think you have to be a cop of Army Ranger to get some great training.... I was looking for a basic handgun safety course for my 16 year old son. I came across an ad for Covered 6 and decided to give them a call. After speaking with Rob on the phone, I felt comfortable that the class he offered, was perfect for my son. Today was the class and my son can't stop talking about his experience today. The morning was dedicated to classroom type safety training and etiquette. Safety was really emphasized which I thought was very important. The afternoon was spend at an outdoor range. I went along to observe. This is where my son shot a gun for the first time in his life. They have a great team of instructors that were there giving them advice and helping him improve his skills. I cannot express how great this class was. What a wonderful staff. It is a small class with practically one on one attention. This is a top notch professional company that I will use again. I had been looking into handgun training, rifle courses, & self defense instruction at every facility in the greater LA area for some time. Covered 6 by far had the most to offer, the best instructors who actually can back up what they teach due to their own military & law enforcement professions, & were reasonably priced. I am a petite female & the tactics Chris & Robert teach can be implemented & utilized by someone my size & I can use the skills against an enemy or attacker 2-3 times bigger than me.
