This is the third barber I give five stars in the past ten years or so. First of, the barbershop is really cool, and they were playing good music. I saw kids, and college students getting haircuts from the two barbers, both of whom were very nice. I was happy with my haircut, and the barber used a razor to finish fixing it, which to me is the difference between a good cut, and some rando haircut place. She also asked me whether I wanted to trim or blend my hair, which is exactly the right kind of question, because I never know what I want and I have to be nudged in the right direction. I like the I could use a credit card to pay, and to leave a tip. My only suggestion would be for the barbers to use warm foam. Also New Brunswick is a pain to park in, so give yourself time to get there. read more

Writing a review after a long time doesn't come handy when you cannot remember the barber's name. I recently had a hair cut here going by the reviews and did a walk-in without booking an appointment. The place looked like a barber shop in the middle of a nice game room. The barber (sorry couldn't recall his name) asked the requirements and quickly jumped to work. He did a pretty clean job but I had a complete turn off when he assumed that I wouldn't need long sideburns and decided to chop it off short. I immediately told him that I usually sport long sideburns and he must have checked with me before proceeding. I was equally surprised that it cost $35 for a simple haircut. Anyway the place had good aesthetics and ambience and it would definitely cost that much if you are also making use of their pool table or the PlayStation. I also found the music little too loud as both of us found it difficult to hear each other. read more

Gave this place two chances. First visit a guy named Gabe helped me out. I sit down on the chair and he starts fumbling around trying to find something. He doesn't mention what it is to me but he's shuffling stuff around continuously behind me, moving a large standing mirror, things falling all over. It got so annoying that one of the other barbers asked him if he was ok. Finally 8 minutes in he starts asking me what I want done. From there it just got worse, he didn't know how to transition from shorter hair on the sides and scissor the top which I keep longer so he finally had to consult a woman barber named Lutie, she knew exactly what to do. Next visit I booked Lutie but she was running late so some other guy helped me out. He ended up bringing the sides up too far on my head and then struggled to transition the top to the sides just like the first guy. He was a really down to earth kid but he didn't seem to have the experience. During our conversation he said he was 18. Lutie showed up towards the end and this guy consulted her just like the first. She was able to kind of salvage what he had done but this cut was worse than the first. Recently I tried to book an appointment with Lutie but they said she's no longer with the shop. Overall as another recent review pointed out they must have some new guys at the shop that lack experience. I'd go elsewhere. read more

True creates a comfortable and family like environment. This place is great for women and children as well. The staff is very respectful and are truly skilled at their craft. If you are looking for a great cut, reasonably priced, in an environment that is great for the entire family; this is where you want to be. They take walk-ins, but it may be best to book an appointment on the Booksy app. They stick to the appointment times and timeframe. This is NOT a sit around all day and pray you can get a cut place. If you're gonna go here for the first time make sure you're very VERY vocal and specific about what you want. I didn't catch his name but i had shown a reference picture of a taper fade. He sorta did that but with a bald skin cut on the sides instead of an actual fade which negatively affected the overall look. He told me that i had to "be more specific" but i couldn't get anymore specific than the picture i showed him. He was too quick to shaving down to my skin and it was obvious after he took a second look. Wasn't a rude guy, I just wished he would've asked to see the reference picture again instead of just guessing what i wanted. It's been a while since i've been to a barbershop so i didn't even want to write this, but being hit with that minimum 35$ bill at the ended is what killed me. read more

What an amazing group of barbers. Made me and my sons feel right at home. We are always greeted personally and the the boys feel comfortable right away. We had a few haircuts with Michael who listened to exactly what I wanted for the boys (ages 4 and 6). He is no longer with the shop but we will continue to visit True Cuts. read more

Worst haircut I have ever paid money for. Zero attention was paid - I could have done a better job myself. Took him ten minutes and he was done and my hair looks like it was cut by a five year old. The barbershop itself is very nice and there's a very easy online booking service you can use to schedule your haircut. If they didn't do such a bad job on my hair I would rate them five stars. After seeing the twenty-some 5 star Yelp reviews of this place and comparing prices, it was really a no-brainer to come here for my first haircut in New Brunswick. Worst haircut I have ever received. Period. The barber was impatient and clearly rushed through my haircut not caring what it looked like. I asked for a fade and was not given one despite them saying they would. They then chopped away at my hair with scissors as if it was a race to finish. Extremely disappointed with the service and I haven't even gotten serviced! I had scheduled an appointment on the Booksy app with Charles on 4/11/22 for this upcoming weekend since that is his only available times and was looking forward to it because I've heard good reviews on him, the Booksy app had messaged me the day before confirming my appointment that was meant to be today May 15th at 5:15 pm and all was good.... I wake up this morning to a text from the Booksy app that True Cuts has rescheduled my appointment to 4:45 which is no problem to me until I go onto the app and see that they switched my barber to Brandon??! Brandon fucking sucks! Mind you the owner did not call me to confirm this switch so god forbid I walked in there and had to sit in that chair! I live a whole hour and a half away and moved around my entire schedule for this haircut just to get switched to fucking Brandon? Just got back from true cuts, first time here and true really makes you feel welcomed and takes his time with your hair to make sure it's completely perfect. Initially I tried booking online, but seemed they were booked till a month ahead. Then I tried calling, but no one would pick up. So I just walked in and was able to get a haircut from AJ. Overall, I'd say their reviews live up to the 5/5 hype. The place is clean/modern and AJ was friendly and professional. But most importantly, he really took his time give me exactly the haircut I wanted. One of the most important things I look for in a barber is if they actually check my hair before cutting it. It makes a huge difference when the barber gets a feel for my hair and sees which way my hair is going, where the part is, etc. I have very thick, inflexible asian hair with different lengths throughout so I really appreciated this. HIGHLY recommend: Rob @ True Cuts Barbershop in New Brunswick My son (almost 3) hates haircuts- he is very sensitive and this has always been my most dreaded experience for him (and me). We've had crying, screaming, crocodile rolling out of my lap, and pure terror for a while... until I found Rob at True Cuts Our first time w/Rob: a few weeks ago We walked in unannounced and he took us pretty quickly. I warned Rob that my son has a really tough time w haircuts (despite many exposure talks, rewards, and incentives) Rob had an enormous amount of patience and compassion for my son and it was truly nothing I've encountered before. He let him hold all the brushes and talked him thru the whole process.. allowed him breaks to regulate himself and simply followed his lead... I was so happy w the experience I knew this would be 'our spot' then... I walked in to make him another appointment as it was time! Rob remembered us and even offered to open the shop early for us- so that less was going on (blowers, buzzers, people etc) and that my son would be in a calmer environment. Yesterday: Rob cut my sons hair in the shop we had all to ourselves ; it was night and day! He gave my son breaks when he needed- and would move to a different side of his hair when he knew my son had enough and was starting to get irritated. He even finished the haircut while my son was counting the m&ms from their candy dispenser. He let my son lead, and changed his entire haircut experience. My son walked into school this morning and excitedly told his teacher: "I got haircut, and I didn't even cry, I'm a big boy" he was so proud of himself. Being in the military has forced me to move every few years, and I aways try to find a few things to make a place feel like home: good barber, deli, and coffee shop. True Cuts delivered right away and I've felt no need to go anywhere else for a cut. I'm sure all the guys who cut here are great, but I always book with Malcolm. Honesty, I think he cuts the best compared to any previous hair cut I've ever had and he consistently delivers every time (I cut every two weeks). Not everyone can cut Asian hair, but Malcolm is definitely versatile and knows what he's doing. I recommend this place for anyone looking for a high quality haircut by true professionals. read more
