Just got back from getting my hair cut. I have an interview in the morning and I got my head completely cut up. Horrible. I've never had this bad of a haircut. Posting pictures of I can so everyone can see what I'm talking about and that I'm not being overly harsh. Worst experience ever. And I got charged anyway. I'm dumb for paying. I'm writing this review on behalf of my mans satisfaction with his haircut and the service he got. When we arrived there was a decent wait for a Friday afternoon but we were a walk in, so can't say too much about that. There were 2 barbers working initially and then a 3rd strolled in some time later. His name was Brian and he was who cut my hubby's hair. When he got in the seat he showed Brian a picture of the look he was going for although he let him know he didn't want such an intense of a hard part as the one in the picture. Brian said not to worry and took his time perfecting his look. He did not disappoint. He came out looking marvelous as always ;) Even shaped him up with a straight blade to finish the look. Scissor hands has an interesting vibe as there was hip hop blasting and all three of the barbers were in great spirits and took their time on each of their customers. The location is great as its conveniently located on George street. Prices were reasonable and both my man and I were very happy with the result of his haircut. Would definitely recommend coming here and asking for Brian. read more

Really depends what you're looking for. If you're a college student looking for an average cut just to keep yourself from looking too messy, this place will do. On the other hand, if you're actually looking for a decent haircut and barber shop, I would recommend some place else. The music is too loud, the staff doesn't seem to care much for their customers, and quality of haircuts aren't great. read more

Current Barber isn't what it used to be. Questionable quality of haircuts and not being open during posted hours have influenced my need to lower the number of starts from 4 to 2. I'm writing this on behalf of my boyfriend's unbelievable experience here. He came here around 9pm on a Friday night and didn't need to wait. The haircut itself wasn't quite what he was looking for but wasn't terrible. The barber started shaving his eyebrows without him asking first, which was a little annoying. He was very alarmed by the atmosphere and level of unprofessionalism. For instance, the barber that was cutting his hair was asking his friends (not sure if they worked there or not) to pick him up alcohol at the same time. When they got back these people started drinking in the shop and catcalling women that walked past outside while fighting with their girlfriends on the phone. The barber that worked on his hair also seemed incredibly unprofessional; he kept tripping over his own wires and dropped the razor multiple times. In addition, a customer came in while he was getting his haircut (that needlessly took over an hour) asking how much a haircut cost. After deciding the price wasn't right, the people in the shop started yelling after him criticizing his haircut. Even after the man left the workers continued to make fun of the man's hair and attitude. Needless to say my boyfriend felt very uncomfortable and was less than satisfied with the haircut and the price ($20) and won't be returning. read more

I go when I am in town. Love the place. Great service, place is clean and always well managed, in store shoe shine place so if you have extra time or know ahead of time you can get your kicks cleaned as well. Charlie is the guy who I always ask for. Cash only so bring your greenbacks. I go for the hot towel straight razor shave and enjoy it to the fullest. They do have TV's all around you but I am more of wanting to hear about what is going on in town, the chit chat of the local flavor is always interesting. Great location but the parking can be a challenge at times. If you plan it right you can have a great shave, and a nice beer at the many local places within walking distance. There are two things that really distinguish Scissorhands from other shops: very talented barbers, and excellent hours. For the past 4-5 months I have been getting my haircut exclusively at Scissorhands because they have very late evening hours each day of the week and their barbers take great pride in their work. I am very finicky about my hair and up until this shop opened up, I never found a place that I liked. Each time I got my haircut somewhere else the barber would mess something up here, trim too much there, and generally not do a good job. The barbers at Scissorhands take great pride in their work and they spend the time that it takes to make sure that the job is cut is perfect the first time. Also, I used to get my haircut at a new place each time because of my work schedule. Now I can come by Scissorhands whenever I'm ready for a cut because of their great hours. The shop has a very nice atmosphere, cool vibe, and without a doubt the best barber chairs I've ever seen. I'm talking about big beautiful leather seats that rotate 360 degrees; have a leather bound footrest; and recline flat for an open-blade shave. I can come by late in the evening to get my haircut and watch the game on the multiple HD TVs that they have throughout the shop. There's no better bet for a great haircut. read more

I've been coming here since I came to Rutgers 3 years ago. Terence and the other barbers consistently give great cuts and even on days when the shop is full, they make sure to get to everybody. They make conversation and play music, so there's a friendly atmosphere. Makes you want to come back. I remember visiting this barbershop a couple years back when I needed a haircut and it was 11 PM at night. After doing some research on Yelp, I saw this place was open till midnight so I decided to stop by. I usually never get my haircut anywhere else except my usual shop but I had no choice since I needed it for the next day. I was baffled on the quality of service and the skill level that they presented. The barber didn't know what a combover was. I had to show him pictures online and explain to him what it was. I have been going to scissorhands barber shop on George street since the place opened. It is truly a great barbershop -- fast, clean, efficient, and most importantly, not too expensive. I have not yet had a good haircut here. The atmosphere is fine, and the barbers are friendly and talkative, but they seem to fail to understand instruction, giving me a cut I didn't ask for every single time. Last time I went there they gave me the haircut and beard trim I desperately avoid and have nightmares of getting. I grow my hair long, and when I ask for a little bit off, just a half inch or so, nearly all of my hair gets cut, and when I ask for a beard trim, nearly all of it gets taken off in a way I don't ask for. How specific do I need to be? I'm sure many people have had great experiences here, but I have not yet, and it's a shame. read more

Guys here are cool but the quality of cuts is terrible. First time I went the cut was not too bad, the second time the cut was horrible. Way shorter than I wanted and they used only clippers on my hair on top. So the top looks uneven and not blended in at all; there's just a small piece of hair awkwardly sticking up on the top of my head. This place is absolutely horrendous. They advertise a hot towel shave, and the barber tried to shave me with the clippers and charge me for that. He completely butchered my haircut, started buzzing the sides before I even told him what I wanted done! Also he was literally drinking a small bottle of Hennessy while cutting hair. Was coming here for about a year. Think I won't be coming back now that I've found another place. The guys are friendly. Cuts aren't always consistent. My regular guy that I prefer no longer works here and the last guy completely ignored what I asked him for on top of being on the phone and ignoring me most of the time. #################UPDATE 03/16 Yesterday I went to give this place a second chance. Because America is all about second chances. I waited for almost 90 minutes. I had enough. I have been sitting here for one hour. Not one of the three people working has finished a single haircut. They are talking, answering phone calls, leaving in the middle to grab a drink. Two people already came in for 30 minutes, waited and left. They literally go over the same areas they worked on five times. These are standard shape ups and cuts. One star for UniCut...that is they are only great if you only want a buzz cut, which most anyone with some hand coordination can do at home with electric hair clipper, and some design like a G for the Giants on the back of your head. They can do whitewalls, but not a taper. They have obviously had no advanced professional training and do not understand different hair types, growth patterns and cowlicks. Yes, I even expressed my concern to the guy that I have fine hair with cowlick and pointed to the crown of my head. He assured me he understood. Nevertheless, the crown of my hair was cut as short as the back hairline. Same length in back from crown to hair line! That is not a taper! If you tell me you are a painter and can paint my car, but really only have experience painting houses have some integrity to admit this and do not take on the job. This place is not much different than any of the chain barber shops such as the Hair Cuttery. Guess all have to find the time to travel an hour out of my way to get a decent cut. read more

If you get Jay, the experience is decent. However, the other barbers are not as experienced and are a bit sloppy. They didn't put proper shaving cream or even apply a hot towel before my shave. Told the guy I didn't want my top buzzed but only slightly scissored. So what does the skilled barber do? Ok so this review would've had 2 stars, but it really doesn't deserve it at all. My buddy and I have gone here for a while because we didn't know of any other place to go, but to be honest we went to another place today and it was so much better than this dump. First of all, it's uninviting to go in, dirty, and random people come in and out while you are getting your hair cut. Also, the barbers are very inconsistent and you pray to god the new guy knows how to somewhat cut your hair. The workers during the MIDDLE of your haircut takes multiple breaks to smoke, eat, get food, etc. which is very annoying and makes a 30 minute haircut into 2 hours of absolute hell. Also regarding the random people coming in, they are usually high, drunk, or trying to sell things. I'm pretty sure a guy with a duffle bag coming in full of fake clothes and hats isn't legal, but its happened every time I've been there. The barbers other than being inconsistent are just not people you want to be around. My buddy once got his haircut by a barber with headphones while he was stoned. And they all also yell at every woman on the street that walks by and critiques them by their looks and what they would do to them. It's pretty sickening and annoying to have done when all you want is a haircut and hoping your meter doesn't run out of money as they waste your time. I would say don't go and to go to another place. The money i blow on meters evens out to the 2 or 3 dollars i spend without a student or military discount. read more
