This has been my family's regular dental office for quite a few years. Initially I was very impressed with the facility and we had no issues. It has only been within this year that we have run into scheduling problems. The office has cancelled appointments twice on me because "the hygienist wasn't going to be available that day" and then the next available appointment isn't for another 4-6 weeks. If we have needed a follow up appointment after a regular scheduled visit it can take that same 4-6 weeks to get another appointment. They do run pretty much on time and are efficient when you do arrive for an appointment. Plus they were able to get my husband in within 24 hours when he urgently needed to see a dentist which I did appreciate and gave them an extra star for that. read more

WARNING TO POTENTIAL PATIENTS & NORTHROP GRUMMAN EMPLOYEES Be VERY wary of the amount of 5-star reviews you see on Google. Many of them are lacking in any details or descriptions of the procedures done and don't tell you anything much like Amazon reviews. It's almost like they're buying reviews. Jai Shin seems to hope you're naive enough to not question what they're doing in your mouth, especially if you've had bad oral history. I had been going to this place for around 4 years after I moved to Maryland, and at first it seemed fine with the cleanings and being told I had some cavities to fill. But then he mentioned I needed a root canal, which was the beginning of the end. This root canal hell spanned 2-3 years before I found peace and left for a better dentist: 1. The root canal procedure itself was very odd. I'm no stranger to root canals and I know for a fact Jai Shin didn't use a tooth dam to prevent my saliva and other contaminants from entering the exposed tooth or a magnifying glass apparatus to even see what he's doing in the back of my mouth. He was very casual and not completely focused on doing the root canal, and initial x-rays showed the biofilling PIERCED THROUGH MY GUM TISSUES before fixing it. My gut was telling me something was wrong, but I had excellent dentists in my life prior to this so I gave the benefit of the doubt. 2. The installed crown afterwards POPPED OFF during normal eating sessions only a couple of months after installation. My two 8 year old crowns have NEVER had this issue and they're still going strong to this day. It was poor cement adhesion explained away with poor excuses. 3. Almost a year later after the root canal procedure, it failed as I had a reinfection there again. Jai Shin told me it was rare/uncommon for this to happen, and yet there we were not even a year in, with bleeding and throbbing gums. They had then referred me to a periodontist that only had a slot to see me in a month, so I went with someone else that could see my issue sooner and the reports were not good. Then I got it checked by Sterling Endodontics and they confirmed it needed to be retreated, which they did PROPERLY the next day. 4. It was pointed out by the Perio that the prior crown that popped off was not giving full coverage over the tooth, leaving a gap for food to enter. The new crown creation by Jai Shin was a hassle and took a while to get it right, but at least now it seems like he actually put effort since he could probably sense I could see through his facade and was done with him. It doesn't end there though. A cavity that was found in my other molar was never mentioned by Jai Shin and caught by my new dentist who has since properly fixed it. Thankfully one of Jai's dental assistants made me aware of the potential of that cavity back then so I kept note of that. It would have become another root canal, and I suspect Jai was withholding this on purpose to ruin more teeth/get more money out of me. I am also very suspect of whether I really needed a root canal from Jai knowing what I know now. Another review here mentions he was lying to them about her child's teeth having cavities that needed to be done. Unfortunately for him, she worked with dentists and knew what to look for. And so, so, SO much more that can't fit in detail in this review. Billing issues that take months to resolve, rough administration of numbing shots, questionable crown applications, charging for Xrays and not doing enough Xrays at the same time vs endo and new dentist, his wife coming in with incorrect statements/assumption on my mouth instead of himself, etc... Jai Shin also seems to care a lot about his reviews instead of his service since early on he would spam people texts to leave reviews. I also noticed another reviewer mentioning that Jai Shin spoke to them at their next appointment regarding a review they left. In which case, hello. Do better, seriously. Don't be a Jensen Huang. If you've read through all of this, thank you for your time. I'm seriously trying to warn you of this dentist because I don't want people to suffer as much as I did. read more

I was overly impressed by this office and staff. They were very thorough in explaining everything every step of the way. Very friendly and compassionate as well which is something you don't get much these days. Extremely professional and knowledgeable. I felt in great hands and cared for. The office was updated and extremely organized. While they are in your mouth, you can see it on the screen in front of you. Or if you are laying down, you have an option to watch Netflix on the built in tv On the ceiling. This practice is a breath of fresh air compared to anywhere I ever gone. Not a review of services as I haven't visited. I received a flyer from true dental offering a $99 new patient special. I called two days later to schedule an appointment that was to be in May. I was called the next day and told they must have sent an old flyer and my appointment would be $150. I canceled. I've been back to True Dental twice since my original visit and everything still stands true - down to the great scent when you first walk in. This time, I had TIffany as a hygenist and she was just fabulous. I had a ton of questions about dry mouth due to a recent medication change and she was happy to answer all questions. Turns out, a lot of medications can cause dry mouth issues and there are products on the market to help with those issues, allowing you to sleep through the night (the # of times I'm waking up to drink water should be a crime lol). She even gave me some samples of the OTC meds! Walked away with a goodie bag, including a True Dental branded mask, made of really great material. 100000% percent recommend this office to EVERYONE - my boyfriend has already switched over! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. This establishment is all about making money and not caring about their patients. I called for three days trying to schedule an appointment and I was told they were awaiting images from my endo doctor which I know were sent the day I left the endo doctors office. It took three days and me calling them daily to schedule an appointment but it was a week away to get a filling. Then I was told they could only squeeze me in sooner for a temporary filling for a fee. Then I was told I couldn't even schedule an appointment without paying a down payment. We switched to true dental a few years ago after I noticed a steady decline in service at my old dentist. True dental offers a ton of extras that do a great job at keeping your teeth clean and healthy. I can easily say everything comes out looking amazing after my routine visits. The staff are friendly, the office is extremely clean, and I am informed about problem areas which were never discussed at my old place. There are two major downfalls with this place. 1. You'll get calls from random numbers somehow associated with the office. I often don't answer unknown numbers, so when they try to contact me through these odd numbers, I miss it until listening to the message. 2. More concerning, rescheduling visits is simply ridiculous. I had covid and the flu (different times), causing me to miss my regular visits. After I was over them, I called to reschedule and was given an appointment 4 MONTHS LATER! By missing my two appointments, I had to wait an extra 8 months. So over a 24 month period, instead of having 4 visits I only had two. They really need to figure out a way to fit in people who need to reschedule or consider dropping some patients if they truly are that busy. My wife is currently facing this. She was out of town during her visit and needed to reschedule. The next available appointment is April! If something opens up they claim they will contact her. I was told the same thing and received a call at 8 PM saying there was an opening. First new dentist after 40+ years with my previous dentist. My scheduled appointment was perfect, I was seen within five minutes after arriving in the office, I like that, I value my time. The dental hygienist took real good care of me while doing x-rays and light cleaning, she was ever so gentle that I did not feel any pain, none, not at all...no dental anxiety whatsoever, amazing. The first thing I noticed upon entering the treatment room was TECHNOLOGY. It is truly modern dentistry at its best, Netflix is available on the TV screen mounted on the ceiling while your teeth are being worked on, air filtration in each and every room protects everyone in this covid age. No more film x-rays, all digital, as an IT person, I can truly appreciate the modern experience. I had my first visit to True Dental today and it was by far one of my best dental experiences. I recently moved to the area and was searching for a new dentist and True Dental exceeded my expectations. Upon entering the building, I was actually greeted and checked in by Dr. Shin himself. The best way to describe the office was like a dental spa. The lighting was perfect, the decor was nothing like I've seen in a dental office, the scent was very soothing and there was a tv on the ceiling to entertain patients during procedures. Having missed my 6 month checkup, I was a bit anxious about what damage I may have done but the staff was very reassuring and didn't make me feel guilty about not missing my regular appointments. Did I mention I called on a Monday and they were able to schedule me for an appointment just two days later in the middle of COVID. After the most thorough cleaning and inspection by the kindest dental hygienist ever, Dr. Shin came in and discussed my dental plan. I was already in the midst of Invisalign, which fit in perfectly with the next course of action for my dental health. Dr. Shin set real expectations and and timelines by giving both best and worst case scenarios. He also gave me options on where to have treatments done if I preferred sedation to feel more comfortable. I have been to my fair share of dentists having lived in different countries and states, and True Dental is one of my favorites. The Shins and the staff are kind, informative, and efficient. I love the attention to detail in the waiting area and bathroom (most noticeably that they smell nice!) and how neatly everything is laid out. The tv on the ceiling with the bluetooth headphones is an amazing, relaxing touch for the patient. It makes my time going to the dentist feel like a break where I can catch up on my tv shows. I have also taken my two 18 month olds to them and they did not struggle or cry. They had stuffed animals waiting for them on the chairs and cartoons playing for them. They are fair, letting me know and explaining thoroughly how much insurance covers and how much I have to pay. Doctor Mrs. Shin discovered aspects of my oral health that other dentists have missed, and has done her best to get to the roots of problems instead of covering them up and having you come back later. read more

True dental has been great! I had a fear of the dentist from a prior dentist and they have definitely put those fears to rest. I've since had four cleanings and a filling and they've always been great, very attentive to any sensitivity or pain I was having and they have been very thorough! Everything is incredibly clean and they even have personal air purifiers to reduce the spread of Covid. They even have tv's above the chairs so when you're laying back you can pick a show on Netflix to watch! Every person I've come across at True Dental has been kind and I've been incredibly appreciative of the care I've received there! I really hate that every time I move I have to find a new dentist. True Dental was my first office to visit when I moved to Maryland and I will say that I got lucky! I have been twice now and have seen both dentists and have had fantastic experiences with both. They are professional and welcoming. The hygienists are awesome; they walk you through everything they're doing and make sure you feel comfortable. The office is super clean, decorating nicely, and smells great. Nobody tries to talk to you while they have tools in your mouth too. Always a plus. Very happy to have found this dentist. read more

I drive an hour to go to this dentist, but if that doesn't say enough... I've been going here for about three years and was blown away since day one. Their set up makes you actually feel comfortable to be there. The staff are kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The chair leans back and you can watch TV while having your cleaning and whitening procedures. Pre COVID they even had blankets for you. I had an issue with my whitening trays that were provided, as I didn't like the fit, and Dr. Shin created new molds and mailed them to me without question. When I had a scare with one of my teeth on Saturday night, he was able to schedule me for Monday morning. I have huge anxiety when it comes to the dentist, especially after a previous dentist ignored a cavity that wound up becoming a hole. Dr Shin is amazing, from the moment i stepped into their offices they put me at ease. Dr shin showed me step by step what needed to be done, why it needed to be done and provided a calm environment for me. He made sure i was comfortable and that things went smoothly. He did not dismiss any of my concerns instead addressed each of the patiently and kindly. I can not even begin to say enough wonderful things about Dr Shin and his team because for the first time in 20 years I'm not afraid to go to the dentist. I missed one appointment getting cleaning and filling because I got confused and got the dates wrong which I accept it's my issue and was willing to pay the $50 fee but then when I called, then they gave lame excuse of technically it was 2 appointments and will charge $100 which they never told about before but how dare I could be a human and make mistake OMG. I must pay but not BS charges that they claim. When they want money it is right away but paying back no one has any idea but then only Doctor deals with money, really!!!! I wouldn't recommend simply on my principle. I miss my dentist Dr. Knox in Pasadena who stopped taking our insurance :( read more

Had to walk out during an appointment at one point because they gave me something I'm not supposed to have. Then they have the nerve to spam you with phone calls and emails to get you back even after asking them to stop. I had to come in here as my main dentist is in DC. I was so impressed by how nice the staff was, how professional the hygienist was and Dr. Julie, she was so caring! My wife went in the next day and was impressed as well, but was seen by Dr. Jai and he was amazing as well! I am doing a comprehensive treatment and will be back to my main dentist but my wife will come back here for sure. The office is super nice, modern, has overhead TVs for patients. I had a good experience at True Dental. The staff were very friendly. The office is new and very clean. They have TVs you can watch while you're getting your teeth worked on. My hygienist Courtney was very friendly and did a very through job cleaning me teeth. Got a chance to meet Dr. Shin and he was very nice and personable. Being new to the area we searched the internet to find a dental practice with the best ratings and asked for recommendations from colleagues as well. We found ourselves at True Dental in Odenton, MD. I went in this morning for my initial visit. I am 58 years old and have a small fortune invested in my dental work. I am a retired Marine and have been subject to many dental visits both in the military and civilian sector. Before visiting True Dental, my worst dental experience was a bad root canal gone terribly wrong. I had it done twice and was finally recommended to a specialist who did it correctly on his first attempt. I would like to share the experience I had two hours ago. I was typically greeted by Kim who asked for my driver's license and the typical insurance questions. Then Lauren (sp?) asked me to step in and have a seat. She said she needed to take some x-rays and proceeded to awkwardly place an oversized, hard, and very sharp x-ray backstop device in my mouth at uncomfortably and painful positions. When I complained about the pain Lauren told me I had an extra bone in my mouth and that was the problem. WHAT?! Then she says "Oh no one ever told you that before?" Like I was 8 years old. Then she says "Oh yes, I have the one too and it's from clenching your teeth." WHAT! What in the world is this girl talking about? I have to presume that from her perspective the pain and anguish I was experiencing was because I developed an extra bone in my mouth from clenching my teeth...??? Did I mention that I am a retired 30-year active duty US Marine? I suppose she was a little annoyed that I was complaining about the pain caused by the shape and size of the excavator blade which was gouging out the bottom of my mouth just beneath the tongue. I think she decided she would drop the cord on the next x-ray just to give me the WHAT FOR...for complaining in the first place. The force of the cord caused the sharp corner of the excavator blade to dig in real good. The taste of blood was now motivating me to reconsider this "Cleaning" visit. Lauren came around the chair and said she had a number (6 or 8?) of additional x-rays to take. I told her that we are done with x-rays for the day and she insisted that she was going to finish the aforementioned "number" of x-rays before I was to leave the chair. Did I mention that I am a U.S. Marine Corps Master Gunnery Sergeant Retired? They tried to ambush me in the hallway as I was trying to escape and the Ms. Doctor Dentist??? offers me another x-ray machine in a room further down the hall. I quickly declined the offer and made a quick exit into the rain. Ah, freedom from... whatever that was. I called True Dental when I got home and asked to speak with the owner, manager, or DR and following a 7-minute wait on the phone, Mr. Dr. Dentist came on and asked me to explain what happened. He said he heard about it but that he wasn't in the room so couldn't be sure. I explained the experience and he said well he was sorry and that was not normal. My wife asked how did it go? After I explained what happened she said "I didn't want to complain but that is exactly the same experience I had last week." There is no benefit for me to write this review. I am just an old Marine war dog who would like to keep his compers in the best condition possible without having to endure incompetent dental hygienists who have no business in the medical or dental profession. I recommend Lauren puts in an application for employment at Dominos's next door. I'll bet she can wield a mean pizza slicer... read more

The best dental experience I've ever had. Dr. Shin is very good at his job and takes great pride in his work. My girlfriend was having tooth pain a month ago and was told by multiple other dentists in the area that she would be unable to get an appointment until the following week. Dr. Shin, actually came into the office on his day off in the evening just a couple of days after my girlfriend had contacted his office. Fast forward about a month and I had an appointment yesterday for a routine cleaning and my teeth are cleaner than ever. Plus, the whole time I was sitting in the dentist chair I was able to enjoy my choice of movies or tv shows on Netflix. Also, the staff is very nice and the office is very clean and modern. I'm always hesitant to try a new dentist. But, after moving to Odenton and not having been to a dentist in over two years, I had to find a dental office. I'm so glad I took a chance on True Dental. This office was different from the moment I walked through the door. It's a typical dentist's office but the vibe is different. I was greeted by name by Dr. Shin when I walked through the door. The receptionist was at lunch but Dr. Shin didn't hesitate to hand me the new patient paperwork. My appointment started on time and was the most gentle exam and cleaning I've ever had. (The x-rays were uncomfortable, but dental x-rays always are thanks to the bite wings). Dr. Shin noticed I had some cracked teeth (was even able to take pictures so he could show me) but encouraged me to wait on treatment because my dental insurance is iffy about covering cracked teeth. He was looking out not only for my teeth but my budget. I look forward to using this practice for all my dental needs for years to come. read more
