The pictures are deceiving. To start of, the cashier didn't seem to have great attitude about her job. She wasn't enthusiastic at all and seemed annoyed while taking my order. They were also out of most things on the menu that i tried to order: macaroni salad, corn bread and peach cobbler. Since they were out those, i took a couple of seconds to look at the menu and think of what to substitute. Again, she just seemed annoyed waiting. Food was eh. Bread tasted old, ribs were hard to chew. Brisket and ribs had decent flavor tho. But everything else just seems preheated. I ended up getting a brownie but it looked poorly packaged. After reading all the jazz about how wonderful the BBQ is, we figured we check it out! Husband & I both tried the 3 meat plate. We had sausage, pork ribs, BBQ chicken, fatty brisket & all the usual sides, potato salad, beans, corn & the special mac & cheese. This is one of those places you walk up & order the food & then you pick up the food @ the window. The BBQ turkey must be a hit, as it was sold out by 5 pm. So I don't know about y'all but where I come from a good sausage is juicy & squirts as you bite into it. This sausage was dry. Trust me, we have traveled the world & have had our variety of sausages. Oh my goodness, the fatty brisket was to die for, would highly recommend the fatty brisket. The BBQ chicken was juicy, hot & with the right seasoning. The pork ribs were tender & fall apart in your mouth. I will say, if you like BBQ sauce, there is a nice variety. The potato salad was just ok, the potatoes were a bit hard, raw & lacked seasoning. The corn was fantastic & definitely not healthy. The MAC & Cheese was the best! Recommend you stick with the house favorites, brisket & Mac & cheese. Then you may want to hit the gym twice as hard! Wow I had super high hopes for this place but after trying to digest they BBQ what a big disappointment. Loaded Cornbread was more like loaded grease yuck at least trying drawing the grease before preparing the dish. We always have a really good experience here. The sliced brisket is phenomenal. They have a few different types of barbecue sauces to choose from that are all great but really not even needed. The food stands on its own. On top of all that the location is always very well kept and clean. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The people taking orders are rarely pleasant, but the cooks & back staff are great! They obviously don't stay in communication because I've asked about them being out of things while ordering to be told they have some, only to get called up by kitchen staff to pick something else. They are often out of several items on the menu. That being said, my family hasn't had anything we didn't like. It's not pit house bbq, but it's good. My recommendation is the loaded baked potatoes!! Absolutely delish! Also huge! Our family of four can split two potatoes & be comfortably full. We always end up adding dessert though, so we leave stuffed lol. My 6yr old daughter says this is the only place she'll eat the smoked sausage too lol. The seating is usually fairly open and comfortable, very few times have we not found seats or had it be too hot or cold for us. I've learned not to order brisket outside of Texas - but who knew you should always order it inside a grocery store? In all of my travels in Texas, Kansas City, and Memphis this is some of the best BBQ in all the lands. The brisket is super tasty, the turkey was a heavenly surprise, and the sausage was flavorful (but not as tender as I would like). The BBQ beans are loaded with more brisket - big tasty bonus! Even the side salad was super fresh and delicious - this is when being located next to the HEB produce section is a huge benefit. I didn't expect the barbecue out of an HEB to be amazing, but I also didn't expect it to be very pricey. Fortunately and unfortunately, True Texas BBQ is both of the above. I've walked by this place multiple times while shopping, but could never pull the trigger given the price point. I finally splurged on some brisket, sausage, beans and creamed corn after hearing more than a few people around the office recommend it, and can attest that pretty much everything is top notch here, especially the brisket. Sausage is average at best, and the sides, while solid, are nothing mind blowing. Don't get me wrong, this place can certainly satisfy that craving for some good Texan BBQ, and apparently they even have beef ribs on Fridays, which definitely look worth trying. This location is inside an H-E-B so that's an automatic star right there! Staff has always been friendly and the casual restaurant is pretty clean. Food is excellent and priced fair. Who would have thought a BBQ place inside HEB actually has good food? got some briskets. Really good. They serve natural meat, no antibiotics, no hormones. Creamy corn is pretty good. Even the mac and cheese, you can see they use little food coloring for it. Chicken is just Okay - had it better at other places. Only complaints were we ordered BBQ ribs, but got briskets instead. Delicious BBQ place. Best I've ever had, but then again I'm not from Texas :) It is inside a grocery store so a good lunch place but probably not for dinner. After placing a $40 order for delivery through Grubhub I was informed by email my order was cancelled. No reason given. Don't you think it would be prudent to CALL rather than send an email? This place has been great! With that being said, today's experience was HORRIBLE. First off, it was the longest I had ever waited. They're usually better organized. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich and couldn't chew through the tough brisket. The Mac and cheese hardly had any "Mac" in it. I am truly disappointed in today's service. I have been all over Texas and have had some of the best bbq in the world, but never did I think I'd find some great BBQ inside of an HEB Supermarket. True Texas BBQ serves it up daily. The brisket was tops and very close to that of the Franklin, Corkscrew and Killen's, some of Texas' top bbq brisket joints, in that it was flavorful, juicy and tender all in one. I now have been back several times and have experienced the same great taste in the brisket. Do yourself a favor and get some True Texas BBQ before you shop for groceries. I came in on a sunday and there was no line. My belly liked that. The cashier was really friendly and he was really patient, because i had some trouble with the texan accent. ;-) He explained well his draft beer assortment so that i got the IPA that fit perfectly to my pulled pork sandwich. The meat was rich in taste, very juicy on a fresh bun. Simple and unbeatable sandwich and that all natural! I paid around $13 for a large sandwich and a pint of beer. This is the best bbq I have had in midland. I got the three meat plate with pulled pork, fatty brisket, turkey, Mac, and cornbread. All were good but the brisket and turkey were a bit dry probably because I was eating a late supper. If I could give less than ONE star I would. This is horrible!! Customer service is awful! Every single employee should be replaced. Management is worse than the regular hourly employees! I hope none of the managers here get promoted, a raise, or a bonus! This place is absolutely the worst location in Texas. We placed an order at 5pm to pick up at 8:30pm. When we arrived at 8:30 we were told we couldn't have the order we had already paid for because they didn't have enough. We ordered and paid three and half hours in advance. Any person with any level of brain function could have made sure that enough food for our order would be saved. This place is awful. We didn't even get an I'm sorry! We were told "we're out and there's nothing we can do. You'll have to call the customer service number to get a refund." This place is a joke I hope it closes. It is the worst. read more

Went to store and found order was ready but the lack of English speaking workers behind the counter made the siren call to check this order. Horrible BBQ. I never thought much of this joint sitting inside an HEB, but I couldn't resist the high reviews while my hotel was right next door. Big mistake! The sides were bad, and some of the BBQ was near inedible. To be fair, I ate here for a late dinner, and historically I've never had good BBQ past lunch time since the meat typically sits there all day and dries out. But if you're going to be open, it's the restaurant's responsibility to maintain quality. The green bean side was barely seasoned and too plain. The beans were cooked into that awkward spot where it wasn't crisp anymore but not yet soft. Bad texture. The mac and cheese was standard. Nothing good or bad to say about it. I went for the standard trinity of meats - sausage, brisket (moist), and ribs. The sausage tasted good but the casing was sooo tough. I struggled both to bite through it or cut it with a knife. Never had that happen before. The brisket was tender but totally lacking in flavor, and very dry, despite it being from the moist/fatty cut of the brisket. Another reason to love HEB! Came here twice in one week because it was that good! Not to mention convenient since you can get groceries right after eating. I tried the bbq baked potato with chopped brisket and the Cubano sandwich. They use a Texas sized potato and top it with cheese, sour cream, and plenty of brisket. They don't skimp on the meat! The Cubano sandwich is generously topped with pulled pork, ham, and cheese. There are 3 different bbq sauces available: vinegary, peppery, and sweet. My favorite is the vinegary one! Okay, this is a damn good place. The service was friendly and ordering was easy. The smell alone was making me hungry. I ordered the 3 meats, turkey, Brisket and pulled pork. The turkey was smokey and so tender the pulled pork was tasty and moist as well as the brisket. I had the Mac and Cheese creamy hot and gooey and the beans that had more brisket and just the right amount of seasoning. I preferred the spicy sauce over the sweet, but the stand out was the corn bread!! It reminded me of the stuff mom used to make and the honey butter was the best on it. This restaurant is inside a huge supermarket, right inside the door. You walk up to the counter and order off the menu board overhead. You can choose from a nice selection of cold beers. Then you find a table, and 1 minute later, they call your name and you go pick up your food. Napkins, plastic silverware, soft drinks, and 3 kinds of BBQ sauce are self-serve. The food is better than average, and the portions are generous. Nothing unique, but very tasty. We preferred the pulled pork to the fatty brisket. Beans are very good. Potato salad is right off the supermarket shelf. The dining area is small, 10-15 tables, but pleasant. read more
