Spoke with the technician a couple of times. He gave me a good quote compared to my current provider so i wanted to make sure i was comparing apples to apples. He hung up on me when I asked to think about this over the weekend. I was feeling rushed. Karma can be a bitch sometimes, my mom, son and daughter all own homes in this same area and we all use the same lawn care company. This could have been a big win, now its just a zero. The TruGreen technicians rarely set foot in my yard, yet I was consistently charged as though they had completed some service for my benefit. One tech claimed to have sprayed my yard when my dog was tethered in it. The first customer service representative I spoke with was weirdly calm about the possibility that a TruGreen tech was guilty of animal cruelty. After the possible dog spraying, I demanded that technicians call from the driveway before disembarking their vehicle. None ever did. Instead, they continued for 2 more months claiming to have provided service without calling and without being seen. Ending the contract was not easy. This is not your grandfather's TruGreen. Terrible service over the past 11 months. It was concluded when I hired them to aerate my lawn a few weeks ago. The first crew showed up wearing white socks & slip on Nike sandals. Right off the bat my first impression was not very good. They used the rising aerator instead of the walk behind version. Only problem was the missed several spots in my yard because the riding aerator was to big for certain areas. Also, they left all the dirt plugs in my driveway & on my sidewalk. They offered to come clean them up but my landscaper had already gotten them up. When I called to tell them about my experience they apologized & scheduled to send a second person out to hit the spots the first crew missed. Only problem was when they came out the second time they missed ALL the spots they were supposed to aerate. So I called again & they scheduled someone to come for the THIRD time to hit the few areas they had missed the first two times. This time they actually got the areas pretty good, but they left dirt plugs all over my driveway AGAIN. Will call tomorrow to request refund & cancel my service. SMH. read more

Requested to receive a quote and spoke with a lovely rep named Katie. She was polite and provided a quote plus information for how to contact them to setup service after reviewing other prices in the area. I then received multiple calls within a 24 hour time span that I ignored. I finally answered a call and the rep continued to push for the sale after I explained that I had already gotten a quote and was price shopping. I then explained that I was about to eat dinner and then the rep was unbelievably rude and started yelling at me about how they were trying to keep me from making a mistake and "wasting $3000." They then hung up on me. I definitely will not be working with this company for my lawn care needs and hope that rep gets help with whatever caused them to be so distressed. read more

I don't know if they ever put anything on my lawn for 2020. They stopped by, put a sign and occasionally left a treatment statement, but my lawn looks just as bad after a year of "treatment". When I finally spotted a technician, I told him of my observations. A representative called me, but somehow it went straight to voicemail. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! Hired Trugreen to care for our lawn and shrubs. Since we work from home every day we know when someone comes to our house to do anything in our yard. Dogs will bark, etc. Trugreen put a sign in our grass very close to the road and NEVER stepped foot in the lawn to provide treatment. We terminated their services immediately and paid them so they would go away. Now over a month later they showed up again and put a sign in our yard without providing ANY service to our lawn or shrubs. I called the corporate number and they are useless. This company is stealing from it's customers and should be ashamed of themselves. I blame the Birmingham branch and the leadership at Trugreen for allowing this to happen. Yet, somehow I keep getting bills and automatic debits from my account. I have spoken to at least 5 different customer service representatives and managers trying to express my concerns and the other thing that have proven to be good at is giving people the run-around. The refuse to give me my money back - even though "satisfaction is guaranteed." The ONLY time that I ever saw them at my place was AFTER I called and cancelled my account. Cannot give even 1 star-have been TruGreen customers off and on for several years (left them after frequent false charges, poor service-not addressing lawn concerns etc.) Started service again to give opportunity to correct past poor performance. Unfortunately after numerous calls to Trugreen-always leaving detailed message as to the problem and accurate contact information-the manger failed to reply until after I made 3-4 additional complaints. Apparently the technician for our lawn was charging us for services never completed. Two months passed without service (even through we were charged and paid) and now yard worse than ever-called again 3 times-went through the extensive answering service. The manager finally admitted the technician for our lawn had been fired. Our lawn is full of weeds and in very poor condition. I will be having American Express handle refund and cancel service. I have actually been home when TruGreen technician applied service and witnessed them basically squirting a few drops or making a few passes and then sitting in truck taking a break and then submitting bill stating they serviced our entire lawn (which I can testify did not happen). Just tried calling TruGreen Birmingham number-went through all the steps selecting option to have service changed and was promptly disconnected. I get weekly ads (emails) on my computer and frequent phone calls to add services from TruGreen-I will be pursuing the TruGreen company if these emails and phone calls do not cease immediately. Basically we received fraudulent charges now for the 3rd month. Yes I called 2 weeks ago to notify manager that we were charged and no services performed on our lawn. Heaps of weeds are present and a ruined lawn as a result of no pre-emergent being applied even after they indicated it was. I was happy with my previous service. No, no, a thousand times no. They may be a popular national chain, and may provide outstanding service elsewhere, but here in the Birmingham area, they're sadly unorganized and communication is absolutely tragic. Those two things are what stand in the way of Trugreen possibly being a great provider of lawn treatment service. My wife and I recently had an estimator visit our home, examine our front and back yard, and provide us with a quote for servicing both with regards to fertilizing and weed control. We bit, and were told to expect 6 treatments over the course of the next few months, about 6-8 weeks apart, after officially signing up for the service. We received a call from the local main office to "verbally" sign up for service (they apparently don't do contracts, or provide receipts?) and arrange the payment method. At that point I started to wonder about things, and should've gone with my gut; but regardless we proceeded to pay the full 6 treatments cost in advance, for a slight discount. To speed this up, let's bullet-point what happened next: * Trugreen contacts us to inform us that a technician will be out in a couple of days for the first of 5 treatment; my wife corrects the caller, and spends several calls before finally "convincing" them all of the correct treatment count * technician scheduled for Tuesday, while someone would be home * technician doesn't show - no call, no notice, no nothing from him or the office; weather is overcast but not bad * we decide that Trugreen is not the company for us, due to poor communication * I call Trugreen on Thursday morning to cancel the service, prior to any techs coming out, to make a clean break; i ask the office personnel if the tech will be notified of the cancellation so that he doesn't come out - she assures me yes he will be told and diverted * technician shows up at 1:30pm the same day, and services the front yard but not the back (b/c no one's home and the fence gate is locked), then leaves a note indicating he showed and performed the treatment to BOTH the front AND back * we confirm that the fence gate was and still is locked at the time, speculate whether or not this guy pole-vaulted over the 6'+ fence with his chemicals * I drive to the local main office directly and cancel the service in person, while informing them of the why's (tech getting by on half the work, poor communication, etc.) Bottom line, techs don't communicate with the main office, the main office either doesn't communicate with techs or has a running case of alzheimer's, and apparently the customer should never be the first to know what's going on about her/his own service. There are too many lawn service providers around to settle for a lazy one. Use at your own risk... read more

The experience with Truegreen was ok when I was in Michigan but after the experience in Birmingham I will never have Truegreen touch my lawn. My lawn condition is 10 times worse after TrueGreen touched my lawn. A lot of people told me not to go with them but by the time I had signed up. My lawn after 6-7 applications is full of weed now. I was with TruGreen for 5 plus years. I would call them 2 or 3 times after they serviced my yard because whatever they were doing wasn't working. I was home one day when they came out to "service" my yard. The guy rung the doorbell and walked back to the truck. It took me 5 minutes to get to the door. He stuck the signs in the yard and left. I called TruGreen and told them about the incident and cancelled my service. I told them that was why my yard was the worst on in the street. They were putting the sign in the yard and leaving all this time. Anyone thinking about using their service or actually using them.... RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. Hello, we gave TruGreen every opportunity to treat our lawn with pitiful results, still lots of weeds and some dead grass. We canceled our contract with them last year but they continue to harass us by phone to re-establish their services. In fact they called today, hence this review. After telling a company to stop calling at least six times, I have contacted the Birmingham Better Business Bureau to make a formal written complaint. It seems TruGreen does not understand "DON'T CALL MY PHONE AGAIN!" This pattern certainly make me wonder if once they have your contact information, they will continue to harass forever. BEWARE. Had a horrible experience with TruGreen. They were unable to kill the weeds in our yard, but did however kill two patches of grass. The customer service agent assigned to us was unaware of the type of grass in our back yard. For a lawn care company I find this unacceptable. They were also constantly trying to "upsell" our service and sell us services we didn't need. The final straw was that we had been paying by the year for two years, cancelled the service, and they then came out and did another service and sent us a bill for that treatment. Signed up on Thursday 4/20 (I must have been high, lol). Was told it would be a few days before coming to treat my lawn. They charged my credit card for lawn treatment a week later, despite the fact that nobody had come (I work from home, can see yard from my office..never saw anyone! Also, no service summary was left at door, further proof of nobody coming). Recieved robocall saying aeration would be done Monday May 1. I immediately called saying not to do it, since I had just had it done myself prior to signing up for their service. They showed up and did it anyway, charging me 135. Also, they aerated brand new (1 month old) sod! A sign of their incompetence! You never aerate new sod!! Any time I called the call center, they were nice, tried to be helpful, but were powerless to do anything. NOT ONE MESSAGE from the call center to the local branch was ever recieved, and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get in touch with someone local. I cancelled all my TruGreen service. Go somewhere else....the customer service is AWFUL, the communication between call center and local branch is non-existent, and there is zero sense of urgency to speak with the customer and make right what went wrong. I have had tru-green for many years. Every year,my lawn regressed. They blamed it on eveything under the sun except their poor service. I had two trees in the back yard. The grass didn;'t grow around the trees and they blamed it on too much shade. I had the trees removed due to hurricane problems here in Florida. The grass didn't grow and they blamed it on too much sun. Th last straw was this past winter. 1/3 of my back lawn disappeared and the tech continued to fertilize without telling me that I had a problem with the back lawn. I stopped the service. Then I get calls from the corporate office asking what they can do to remedy the situation. Forgeddaboutit. They have a big name but poor service. read more

I agree with all the comments on Trugreen Chemlawn. We had them for several years and our yard just kept getting worse and worse. I even had them come out and respray several times when same day they srayed we had thunderstorms and major rain. The service guy told me that the rain wouldn't wash the chemicals away and I said oh really I saw all the green coloring washing down the street so if the green color washes away I bet your chemicals do too. After I finally had enough and cancelled they called several times a week for several months to get us to come back. NOT happening. read more

I wish I had read the reviews here before calling them. They did not show up when they said they would. I was not at home when the technician came out how to treat the lawn for the first time. It was very confusing as to which part of the yard needed the treatment for grubs. That's why I wanted to talk to them and show them. Supposedly a treatment for weed control was done but nothing for the grubs, which is why I had called them. I had left a note for them to call me on my cellphone but the technician did not do that and I have no idea what area if any he treated that day.The manager of the Birmingham office finally agreed to give me a full refund, as I have prepaid for 2 applications. However after 2 months of talking with them on numerous times the credit is still not applied to my credit card. Small claims court here we come! read more

I had Trugreen for about 3 years and for those years I watched my yard get overrun with weeds and I watched my neighbors yard's thrive with little or no weeds. I called Trugreen many times and they would send out a technician to spray but the last time they basically sprayed Roundup on spots in my yard that did kill some of the weeds but all of the grass in that area. I just stopped calling them because they do not appear to care. I also caught them at least three times billing me for services they did not provide over the years however since I have security cameras around my home I could prove when they did or did not service my lawn. Every time I was told that they sometimes schedule a service that did not happen because of the technician running out of time but they go ahead and bill for it. Had their service several years ago. Prepaid for the year. Got a dog in October that year and called the office and told them they must call before coming out so that we can make sure the dog is in the house that day. In January of the next year, they come out to the house and "service" our yard and leave me a bill for over $100. I call and tell them I will not pay. We went round and round about this and they eventually left it alone and I never paid. I told them they were supposed to call first, I never authorized the service for a second year, the receipt said the tech was on site for about 7 minutes. I have a half acre lot. There is no way you could spray or load and walk behind a spreader and cover the lot in 7 minutes. They have been calling me for the last several years, sometimes 5+ times a week to get me to sign up for service. I keep telling them I don't want them and they really do not want me as a customer again. Been about 4 years and they still don't get the message. I would never recommend their service. Then the nightmare started. 7 missed appointments. 3 initial for discussing the action plan with me in person. Thrice i went home from office waited for 30 mins called back and got to know that no one was coming. So they apologized, gave another date..again no one came not even a courtesy call that someone would be coming or sorry we couldn't make it.we are rescheduling...then I used to leave my backyard access door open for them o come in...no one comes and no communication again..finally sick of their service, I cancelled..then they deducted 176 dollars for aeration..that is absolutely outrageous....they just had one treatment done and deducted 176 dollars towards aeration on top of the treatment cost...then repeated calls...and no response from them ....I am going to BBB to register a case against them.. read more
