I've had TruGreen in the past and gave them another opportunity again against my better judgement a couple of months ago. I signed up for their 7 application plan and prepaid for the services because this year I wanted to let a professional company do the job for me. The representatives I've spoken with have been nice but the work by the technicians have been horrible. The first application was done at the end of February and I noticed after 6 weeks that I had many weeds growing in my back yard and my side yard. I called TruGreen to have them come out to respray the weeds and the technician Matt who came out was unprofessional, condescending and argumentative. He told me he wouldn't spray the backyard because it wasn't in his work order. I explained that was my problem area and that was my reason for calling in but he refused. I told him to forget about it and not do the work because he was being unprofessional and difficult. I immediately called TruGreen to cancel my service but was convinced by the representatives to keep the service and let another tech come out and do the job. The way assured me that I would have a better experience. The latest technician came out today and spent a total of 5 minutes on my lawn and still didn't do the backyard which I verified on my Nest camera. I called TruGreen again and this time I canceled my service with them. The representatives are very professional but they're not the one taking care of my lawn. All three of the technicians that came to my house did a poor job, didn't follow instructions and one was extremely unprofessional. read more

tl;dr: Product is bad, cancelling is worse. I wish I had read a review before using them. We pre-paid for a year of service. Mosquito defense and yard treatments. We had just bought our house, and the yard was in rough shape. Their treatments did very little for our yard. Weeds and moss remained, and the grass looked the same as it did before we called them. The weeds in our front yard actively spread during this time. Their notes every time were exactly the same, they instructed us to let the grass grow out and not mow it short... including when we were away for a 3 week vacation and our yard was overgrown. I don't necessarily expect miracles when I was not doing much for my yard. My yard needed more extensive work beyond a couple sprays. The reason this is a one star review is because of the cancellation policy. Their 'EasyPay' is an automatic renewal. You cannot cancel online, you have to call. When you do, the person on the other end of the line has a bunch of scripted questions to try and get you to reconsider. I called three months ago to cancel, and the process took 20 minutes. They told me I had two mosquito treatments left and asked if I still wanted those. I said that was alright as long as I would not be charged again, and nothing would renew. Today I saw a Trugreen truck in front of my house and found that I had in fact been charged again! Had to call and go through everything again to cancel. I simply cannot recommend any product that tries to put this many barriers in your way to cancel. read more

1 - We've never seen so many weeds after a "treatment" in our life. We have been using them for months and it's just gotten worse. 2 - We requested to get our yard aerated. They sent an employee out who tore up all the grass in you backyard, so we now have ruts everywhere. And worse of all he drove the aerator machine over our new travertine, cracked three tiles, and broke off an entire step. Absolutely no one told us about the damage and we had to arrive home to find out newly renovated backyard and hardscape destroyed. They're good, until they're not. I contracted with Tru Green last year. I pre-paid for one year of service, about 6 treatments. The came out and fertilized and supposedly put down weed killer. The grass DID get better but the weeds didn't seem to be affected. I had to manually kill the weeds with round up, then reseed the patches. Overall, other than them breaking a couple of landscape lights, the service was ok. They gave me a credit for the lights. We renewed this year and pre-paid for another year. 1st treatment went well and our lawn was looking healthy and green. Then our second treatment on May 20, 2024. Our lawn suffered what, according to internet search, is chemical burn. Within 4 days of the tech spraying what he listed as "17-0-5 UBM (NITROGEN,POTASSIUM)" half my lawn died. It looked sparse and thin. Like we had suddenly been in a prolonged drought. When I contacted the company via email, I got a canned response. I called and asked for a supervisor to come look and discuss option. Another tech came out, acknowledged the damage and apologized. He had actually treated my lawn before and acknowledged how good it looked. But, he said he would forward the pics to a manager. The next day I got a call from manager Steven Ross. He said the pics looked like brown patch disease. I told him to come look because naturally-occurring diseases or fungus don't affect the entire lawn. They create patches. (See photos). My lawn looks like someone sprayed something that killed the grass from the tips down. In some areas additional spray was concentrated and it killed entire areas. Other spots looked he didn't spray as much. The manager gave me several excuses. "It was very sunny." "It rained a lot." "The fertilizer they use also feeds the fungus and causes it to bloom faster." ??? That last one is a head-scratcher. How does the fertilizer not feed the fungus for a year, then suddenly it's feast time??? Regardless, I got excuses rather than accountability. For anyone thinking about using this company, please see the attached before and after photos. With random techs being assigned, it's like playing Russian roulette with your property. Each time I get a rep name Jamal (spelling) and EVERY SINGLE time she can hear me just fine to confirm my address then when I try to cancel, she says "I'm sorry but I cannot hear you, you need to hang up and try again". I have had Trugreen for lawn care for about 5 years now and the lawn has went down hill after first year. Lawn was perfect with less than 5% weeds and now its over 60% weeds. My front lawn is all dead. Their grass treatment doesn't seem to kill weeds or help grass grow. They just sprayed 2 weeks ago and not a single weed died. They are close to losing all business in the neighborhood I belong too as the neighbors who went to Trugreen after me are fed up too. The yearly overseed program doesn't show much results either. I would give them zero, if I could. We cancelled month to month service in March, as was not good and paid the last invoice for services. A few weeks later, their guy came by and had started to spray and I caught him and told him we cancelled. he said he would let them know. Since then, MULTIPLE phone calls and messages from them about our account delinquency, after calling them to stop and to clear our account four times. The last time they said we would be placed on their no call list. no dice - DAILY calls, sometimes more than one a day, over the past month. Registered online for a call to get someone out to my home to do an assessment and provide a quote for services to improve my yards condition. Phone representative #1 called back and tried to push me into a phone assessment using google map or similar. What a joke. I was working and told him I didn't have time to complete a review. The next day (today) I got a follow up from another rep that again tried to launch into another "phone assessment". The guy was rude when I said I didn't know the condition of the grass on a particular part of my property. He came back with "you don't know if there's grass on the right side of your house?" I replied I don't know if he's talking about facing the street or the house. I then told him I didn't have time for a phone assessment and wanted a person to come out to my home and he hung up on me. Service seemed reasonably priced compared to me, homeowner buying & applying myself. They call you when scheduled & on way which works good except, maybe a 2-4 hour lag time, don't wait for them. Main issues discovered: 1) Techs are poorly trained, they couldn't identify the common weeds they were treating 2) spreader put out uneven applications, some areas heavy others thin 3) they spread out more fertilizer on concrete driveway (photos) than on grass, next rain will wash into, pollute Lake Norman. What a mistake. We contracted with TruGreen in the spring of 2022. I replaced some sod in my front yard in early July. On July 20th TruGreen came out to treat the yard. They sprayed weed killer on the areas with new sod which I witnessed them doing. The new sod died due to chemical burn. It took me two weeks to get someone out to look at what they did. Service Manager Stephen Ross came onsite. As expected, TruGreen denied responsibility for killing my new sod. I am out $500+ dollars and now will have to buy new sod again. Tru green started service and every putting note that it will take 2-3 weeks for weed control. After 3 service s I told my issue that associate is not covering boundaries and seeing very carless and in rush mode during visit. Which is very bad. After making call and sharing photos with manager Bob , it didn't move at all and no action has taken or response received. I called customer care again explained situation to refund money..but they promised(fake one) me that they will take care . After that they did service multiple times just to get money and tried to make balance zero so that they don't have refund money. Still lawn is full of weeds. Paid for aeration & overseeding services for two years in a row along with the annual contract for routine visits. The technicians were all nice guys who sometimes missed areas or were right on task. The big issue is that after spending well over a thousand dollars my lawn was in worse shape than before they started. If you call and complain they will send someone out the next day to redo the service, however, after numerous calls they promised to send out a manager (who never came) or tried to sell additional packages. SCAM ARTISTS!! We agreed to one year of service for over $700 which was to include seeding our yard. We paid upfront for the service. We just received a bill in the mail for $130 for lime treatments. Come to find out they decided to "renew" our agreement without consulting with us. Also they never seeded our yard as promised in the contract. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Our yard looks worse than ever as well. They will continue to bill you even if you sign up for only a year of treatment. We should have known they were going to be snakes when they appeared on my front doorstep at 8 pm and told me that my husband had called them to come to the house and speak to me about their services. My husband was out of town and never called. He had simply emailed asking for more info on service. They took it upon themselves to show up and lie about speaking to him directly. This was an epic fail; The agent arrived and parked his truck in front of my house after driving on the grass at 9AM. He sat in his truck for 30 minutes and never came to the door. He looked asleep so I went out to check on him. He was asleep and I tried to wake him using my voice and I was unable to do so. I saw that he was breathing. There was a vape pen on the center console. I had to leave for an appointment. I later received a robo-call informing me that the job was not completed because the gate was locked. The interesting part-there is no gate. Called Trugreen to inform of the situation. When I dialed the number it gave me the "thanks for calling TruGreen" line then after 45 seconds hung up on me. Called a second time and there was no option for customer service. Im not trying to be hurtful; I hope this guy is OK; just telling the truth and giving people my experience; I hope it is a simple case of narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea; it is difficult to get motivated and trusted workers in this day and age. I am more aggravated with the false robo call. I did not realize that the reviews for Trugreen were so low. For anyone who doesn't care to read the whole review, I'll summarize; TruGreen is a good idea, at a reasonable price, and they completely fail to make it work for the customer. After over a year working with them, I have gotten better, and more consistent results by purchasing a bag of high quality fertilizer with weed control and applying it myself. Compared to the approximately $500 annual cost with TruGreen, I've spent about $150. In addition to better results, I've had to pull far fewer weeds, and very importantly, have not had to deal with anyone from TruGreen. I will never consider using TruGreen again, and it turns my stomach even typing their name! More detail for anyone that wants it: Despite having substantial prior experience with turf maintenance in other areas, I was stuggling to get good results in the Western NC area. With virtually no local companies to contact, I called TruGreen. The first red flag went up when I realized I was talking with someone in another part of the country, and they had no knowledge at all of lawns in my area. As I asked questions, the rep made it apparent that all he wanted was a sale. I should have listened to my gut! Initially I did see better results than I had been able to achieve, and felt the cost was a reasonable value. Especially because it included an annual aeration and overseeding. But after three or four services, I noticed I wasn't seeing results like I had originally. I called the company, but again, it was someone in another region. Only upon me stating that I was going to drop the service did the rep ask if a manager from the regional office could call me. They did, and we got past that issue. The manager invited me to call him directly if I had any further issues. That worked a couple of times, but then I never got a return call again. The issues kept stacking up. Here are a few; The techs changed every service visit, so there was no continuity, and only a couple of the techs ever cared to listen to what I reported to them, or seemed knowledgable. Despite supposedly having pre-emergent weed control applied, I found myself endlessly pulling weeds. I showed one tech a particular weed that was becoming invasive. I told him I didn't know what it was. His response: "a weed". Duh! He had no idea it was a very common weed called Spurge. I came home one day to a TruGreen sign in my yard, saying no service had been performed that day, yet saw a $78 charge to our card the following day. It was ultimately refunded, but the next time that same tech showed up, he acted all pissy with me because he had gotten into trouble over it. Then I was scheduled for service on a certain day. TruGreen only gives a four hour window, not a specific time. No one showed up. I called and they scheduled a service call for a few days later... and no one showed up. Then called again, and no one showed up again. No call. No notification, and no respect for my time. This is when I cut ties with TruGreen. In closing, TruGreen buys up all the local small companies, eliminating competition. The customer service is cordial, but completely unhelpful, and in many cases, ignorant regarding lawn care. The techs are constantly changing, and seem mostly uninterested in interacting with the customer. At times I felt they may be spraying just water, or a highly diluted product, because there were little or no results. Management in my regional office were initially helpful, but ultimately unreachable and unhelpful. read more

Don't bother with them.... Following the advice of my neighbor (who worked for Scotts), I spent a 2 years getting my front lawn in great shape - it looked like a Scotts commercial. I spent another year working on my backyard - turning it from a sea of weeds to beginning to look like my front. I did the math and found that TruGreen would be only slightly more expensive that maintaining my lawn myself - without me having to do the work - so I gave them a shot. I called TruGreen - spoke with Jason and he came out to survey my yard and speak to me. I told him my expectations for my backyard was to be weed-free till the fall to plant, and I would hold them to their TruGreen guarantee and call them out repeatedly. He agreed, told me to call his number, and I signed the contract and paid upfront for a discount. TruGreen came out a few days later to apply lime and sprayed for weeds shortly after that - off to a good start. A couple weeks later I called Jason and said I still had weeds that were not dying. I was told that someone would be out in 3-days. No one ever came, but when I called back - I was told they were out. I said it needs sprayed again then, and I was told they would be out again, this time my wife was home when they came - she said he was there for 5-minutes. After taking care of my lawn for 5 years, I can attest to the fact that 5-minutes is enough to pull a couple weeds, pull out a hose to attach to a sprayer, or open a beer. I called again and again and again - to the point I was extremely frustrated and gave up on them - I started spraying my lawn myself. I eventually got hold of the regional manager who did not want to spray my lawn, but did agree to seed and aerate for free. I cancelled my service then and there and told them to never call me again. A year later - I have been called 3 times. Each time I tell the poor soul on the other end that I feel sorry that they get to hear me give them a 10 minute story about how terrible their company is at doing their job. I've had Trugreen for years. When I turned my yard over to them it was pristine. A personal friend managed all the servicing of it. Now my yard is full of everything under the sun, and they have the nerve to say you need a restoration, your yard is in bad shape etc, having this weed, that weed, this grass that grass.
