Trunk Club is amazing!! Whenever I go to Nordys I shop with my personal stylist, that's all fun but Trunk Club takes the cake. This is much more convenient, I'm hooked! I log onto their website or log into the app and talk to a stylist about what I'm looking for. My stylist is Clare, she's awesome!Lately I'm finding it hard to get out and shop between work, school and the gym. For my first trunk I asked to be introduced to different workout clothing brands that I could use for indoor cycling workouts. My stylist picked out a trunk I told her what I liked and disliked in the trunk she then took what I liked and surprised me with some random pieces. My trunk arrived in two days. I tried on my clothes and kept several pieces. I had the option of scheduling a ups pickup, dropping off at ups or dropping it off at Nordys. I decided to drop it off at Nordys during work and have lunch at the Marketplace Cafe inside. PRO TIP: send it back via UPS it arrives faster to the Trunk Club. I just logged back into my account and told my stylist i need a cute girls night out outfit for an upcoming bachelorette party I'm going to at the end of the month. Can't wait to see what my stylist sends me!!! During the summer I'd love to make an appointment to check out their storefront. I've heard from a close friend that that in itself is a fun experience. I love to shop. My husband...not such a fan of shopping. Fortunately, he has me to keep him oh so fashionable. However, in the past year I've dedicated all my shopping energy to my little one and my husband's wardrobe has seriously suffered. A friend of mine worked at Trunk Club for a few months and during that time styled my anti-shopping husband. I was blown away with the Trunk Club experience, but refrained from writing a review since I had a friend who worked there. I'm sad for my husband's wardrobe that she's moved on, but happy to now sing from the rooftops in regards to how awesome Trunk Club is. If you live in Chicago I"d highly recommend stopping in the actual store (rather than meeting w/ your stylist over the phone/skype) because it's one helluva experience. Your stylist brings you your own little area full with comfortable couches, drinks (alcoholic beverages included) and there's even a little changing room. My friend and the sales director, Michael, questioned my husband about his style and what he needed. I pretty much did all the answering, he agreed and our baby made herself at home crawling around Trunk Club. In case you're wondering it turns out this place is very baby friendly. :) Minutes later they brought out the goods: sweaters, jeans, shirts, etc. My husband tried it all on and it was amazing to see how good it all looked on him. He was in a bit of a rush to get to a Northwestern football game (priorities, priorities) so he told me he loved it all, requested 2 pairs of the AG jeans he tried on and then ran out the door to get his football on. Baby and I eliminated a few items for budget reasons, although it was a difficult decision since we loved it all. I ended up purchasing a bunch of sweaters, shirts the 2 pairs of requested jeans. The total came to $1500, which is a lot...but he basically had an entire new wardrobe to get him thru fall and winter. And he's made very good use of this wardrobe since he wears his Trunk Club clothes anytime he leaves the house besides work. My husband even called me on his way to the football game to thank him for taking him shopping. The anti-shopping guy actually thanked me! And my mom was so impressed with his new wardrobe that she treated my brother for some Trunk Club clothes a few weeks later when they were both visiting Chicago. We haven't been back since and sadly his stylist is no longer there, but there will most definitely be a trip back to Trunk Club for a spring/summer wardrobe in the near future. I also heard a little rumor that they are going to soon be doing custom suits (uh-mazing!) so this really will be one stop shopping for us soon. She was able to push me outside my style box and consider things I otherwise would have said no too. Be prepared to spend some $$ though. I tried this service after Nordstrom bought it and I received an invite to try it as a promotion. I thought it was interesting. I like clothes and fashion (I have been known to watch "Project Runway"), and while I don't dress up that often, I like to think I do have a personal style (in the way of folks like Tom Wolfe), and I don't like to wear things 'because everyone else is wearing them'. Let's face it; PLO-style scarves on men in summer, high-water pants and lace up shoes with no socks are just silly, and I don't care if it's big in Paris and NYC. I know what I like. Nevertheless, the idea of a 'personal stylist' intrigued me, 'coz you never know where a good idea may come from, and the opportunity to pretend for a moment that I'm a member of the '1%', and have 'people' to take care of things was irresistible! So I gave them a whirl: WHO SHOULD TRY (Nordstrom) TRUNK CLUB: Guys who want to look good, but hate to shop, and/or have no fashion sense or sense of style at all. People with at least a six-figure income. WHO SHOULDN'T: Folks who already have a clear idea of what they want; people who balk at the idea of paying more than a C-note for a shirt; anyone on a budget. THE ROSES: The clothes from (Nordstrom) Trunk Club are of superb quality; you are probably getting good value for money here. The convenience of getting a shipment of clothes to try on at your leisure in the comfort and privacy of your home is unquestionable. No cramped dressing rooms of questionable privacy, no stores with pounding hip-hop (or worse) music driving you to distraction, no pushy sales people who will let you put on something utterly awful and say 'that is sooooo YOU!' No traffic, no parking hassles, no fear of buying something just so you can get out of there, only to take it home and realize it really doesn't fit or you hate it the next day. THE THORNS: The laughable idea that your 'personal stylist' is that. The one I got was a stylist all right, but not 'personal'. The idea is that you have a phone convo with your 'personal stylist'. (S)He deduces what your style is and what you like, and sends you neat stuff to try. After a long chat with my 'personal' stylist, I was quite excited to see what she came up with. Sooo.....my (Nordstrom) Trunk Club trunk arrives: I eagerly dive in, only to find that pretty much everything would be GREAT... For someone else...namely, a fashion-clueless brogrammer who wanted to look like he was dressed by his girlfriend who got her ideas by picking the blandest stuff she saw while perusing a Bonobos catalog. I felt like a kid who had been waiting months for Christmas, only to find that instead of getting my XBox, I got a fugly JCPenney sweater. :( :( :( I concluded that my 'personal' stylist probably didn't hear the bulk of what I said, and just grabbed a bunch of Stuff That Everybody Else Is Wearing. Needless to say, I sent it all back, and chalked up the whole thing to experience. THE VERDICT: Your results my vary. (N)TC can work for you if you really aren't interested in your look, but you just want to know you're looking good in a safe, mainstream way that will blend in with every other Blandy McBlandperson (okay, an upscale Blandy McB, but you're still Blandy; just sayin'...). If you have a sense of what you like, you're better off with a fashion-savvy spouse or good friend who really cares about what you think as opposed to someone who's just going to try to re-create you in their image and likeness. Bottom line: While the Truly Wealthy can afford people with Real Talent to give them true individualized service, don't expect that from a phone conversation with a 'personal' stylist. Everyone likes the idea of 'personalized' service, but fantasy that you're being treated like the Special Unique Little Snowflake you are holds until you realize that you're being treated in the exact same 'special and unique' way like everyone else. Sort of like my (former) 'wealth manager' who I kicked to the curb when I realized he wasn't suggesting options that were best for me, but what was best for him. Really Rich People get personalized service. All you're gonna get is an illusion of such, and pay a premium to look like everyone else. In other words, I honestly doubt Tom Wolfe, Tim Gunn, or Carson Kressley use or need (N)TC. They and men like them know who they are, and don't need anyone to make them a clone of someone else. read more

I really like the concept but given that transactions are done remotely, great communication is essential. Unfortunately, the communication with my first order was lacking. To deal with the cold weather, I was looking exclusively for a vest and some sweaters with color patterns. In my only call with the stylist, I mentioned that I already had a lot of solid color sweaters and so many shirts that I didn't want those things. I received a vest but it was bulky looking and difficult to use the zipper. For $325, I would have expected better. I wound up buying elsewhere a really nice Ralph Lauren vest for half the price. I also received two solid color sweaters though I mentioned in the call I didn't want solid colors. One sweater was so bulky I could stuff a pillow in it. The other was solid gray (a color I personally dislike... but never discussed). I received 3 shirts though I had mentioned I already had a closet full and wasn't looking for any. These were casual cotton shirts that looked nice but nothing out of the ordinary and rather expensive at $175-195. For my taste, I prefer the local Italian clothier that offers beautiful Italian-made shirts at this price. I also received two funky colored pairs of socks, but thought this was clever to add to the order given that they were relatively inexpensive and mixed things up a bit. I realize that this exercise is a bit of trial an error... but was surprised at how much the mark was missed on all items. On the plus side, the stylist I worked with was very friendly. I also like the ease of returning the items and the ease of providing helpful feedback online. Not at all a difficult transaction... just not time well spent. For now, I'm sticking with brick and mortar retailers where I can see and try on everything. read more

Warning: you will go broke... but you're likely to look good while doing it. The Trunk Club business model is pretty ingenious. Take a cool River North loft location, add to it L accessibility, smart, talented stylists, more clothes than a department store, a soundtrack, BEER, and fashion-clueless, lazy men. There's really no way it can lose. My disdain for shopping is pretty well-documented. I have neither the time, patience or eye for picking out outfits or pieces of clothes. The rub is that I have a job that requires me, from time to time, to be in the public eye. Thus, looking like the muse of the House of Derelicte isn't really an option. So, I wound up at Trunk Club for an afternoon of drinking beer (sneaky sneaky), trying on clothes and getting a point of view for dressing that imparted some style tips that can vary from outfit to outfit. I learned how to mix and match, dress for the season and to use what's in my closet to put together a look that makes sense.* I also spent a lot of money on clothes. Maybe this is customary. Maybe this is what shopping is all about. Thing is, when your target audience is made up of guys who don't tend to shop all that often or consistently, take some time to warn a fellow. When I saw the bill for my 5 items, I might have blacked out a bit. Don't get me wrong: everything looked ridiculously awesome, was made of fantastic quality and bore designer names I'd never heard of, but my wallet took me outside and slapped me around a bit. If clothes are your indulgence, as opposed to food, travel, sporting events, music, etc., there's no doubt in my mind that you'll get lost in the opportunities afford you by the Trunk Club. If clothes are not your bag, stop in every other quarter, treat yourself to some nice pieces and get the skills to create the look for less. *Fall/winter. Just have to start this review and say that I have had nothing but an amazing experience with Trunk Club. This service is for someone who wants to look good but doesn't necessarily enjoy shopping on their own or like me gets extremely frustrated by the nuances of shopping for clothes (size out of stock, not fitting appropriately, wrong color, etc...). My stylist is Molly Rose and she is AMAZING. I love trunk club because they do excellent custom clothing work and that's mainly what I've purchased from them. If you are serious about changing your style and want to have a perfect fit, definitely check out the custom cloths option (shirts, pants, jackets, suits, etc). My stylist took my measurements, helped me pick out different patterns, and even dared me to try something out of my comfort zone. I was VERY HESITANT to try what she had suggested, but I did and now I get compliments on my outfits all the time. Every time my orders came in and I tried everything on, it was perfect. Some things had to be tailored more specifically, but that is to be expected. The Trunk Club service IS NOT for someone who is stingy or looking for a sale. If this is what you are looking for, then stop here or you won't be happy. This service IS for someone who is willing to pay a premium to make sure they look their best and just want someone else to do the behind the scenes work for them. If you loathe the idea of dealing with crowds of people, standing in lines or even simply hopping around to many different stores looking for a particular style, size, or color just to have your time wasted because it didn't fit right or were out of stock etc...then this service is for you. I see some less than 5 star reviews complaining about prices or their stylist... Request a different one then? Don't be a push over! Get someone you like and have confidence in and you'll be happy. Trunk Club's business model fits my life perfectly. 3 months ago, I finally found myself with a free evening from work, and decided it was time I purchased some new clothes. I drove to a nearby Nordstrom's, then proceeded to circle the parking lot for 35 minutes looking for parking. I left without even entering the mall. Boy, am I lucky to have found Trunk Club. For those that live somewhere other than Chicago, it is completely worth a trip in to meet your stylist in person. My stylist, Erin, had done a tremendous job of understanding my personality and style (or lack thereof) through the phone. The first couple trunks she sent were spent trying to figure out my body shape/size, and so while there were a few size mismatches, she actually had started to get me pretty accurately. But meeting her in person really raised the bar. The entry to the building is very unassuming, but once you get off the elevator, a whole new world opens up. Who knew shopping could be so fun! Here's what happened for the next 3 hours. Erin carted over a ton of clothes, brought me a glass of white wine, and patiently watched me try on clothes. Yes/No... easy answers. No more staring blankly into the mirror for 20 minutes figuring out if the shoulders fit right or those color combinations work. Erin has also gotten me to step out of my rather conservative shell (case in point-- my original closet was filled with a lot of black, navy blue, and gray). The prices end up being essentially the same as a Nordstrom's (with no additional markup beyond what's available through retail). Add in the personalized service, and this is absolutely a no brainer. The shipping service works really well (get it shipped to work). They provide the tape to reseal the box, and the shipping label to send back unwanted items. I'm a pretty lazy person, and even I would say, they've made the process dummy-proof. I'm lucky to have Erin as my stylist. It doesn't hurt that she's extremely easy on the eyes and dresses really well. But, more importantly, she's available to answer my style questions via text, and her talents have resulted in many compliments from the ladies. I am a guy that like clothes...a guy that likes expensive clothes. A very close friend of mine tried this place out and told me of the awesomeness that is Trunk Club. As Johnny T said, you will go broke shopping here as it can be quite pricey, but the clothes and the styles are pretty interesting. They found lots of nice garments for me to try on and they complimented my body & skin tone very well. They make sure they get your sizes and then disappear for a few minutes only to return with very attractive gear. My personal stylist Adi definitely made sure she was able to accommodate my style preferences as well as introduce me to stuff outside of my normal steelo. Every piece she showed me was awesome...if I had the moolah, I would have bought it all...lol. Very lovely ladies here dressing men in a very nice, spacious loft. There is a bar here as well in which the ladies will ask you what you want....drinks are on them while you try on clothes. I like the vibe here and the clothing is pretty damn good. I'll preface this by saying that I like shopping for clothes and have a pretty good sense of style. I almost gave up on Trunk Club. A couple years ago I was approached via cold lead by one of Trunk Club's former stylists. I had heard of the place and wanted to give it a try. When I got there, she jumped right in looking for my size in everything. She was extremely pushy and didn't listen to anything I said about my personal style and what I didn't like. She kept trying to push these ugly $200 pea green loafers on me, and after an hour of trying on $500 shirts that didn't suit my needs, I was ready to go. People who sell timeshares aren't that pushy. A year later, I'd built up a stock of gift cards to Trunk Club via some silent auctions and was introduced to Tom, my current Trunk Club stylist, by a mutual friend. Tom set up a time for us to meet, and before he had me try on a single item of clothing, he offered me a drink (open bar- woohoo!)and we talked for at least half an hour about what I did, what my personal style was, and my life in general. Tom was very attentive and used all that info to search for what would work best for me and my budget. He was honest about what he felt worked and what didn't, and didn't try and push expensive items on to me to push up the sale. He was extremely knowledgeable about the clothing brands he was showing me and the process felt very transparent. It was a night and day experience compared to my first stylist- the customer service Tom provided was absolutely stellar. That being said, you need to go into Trunk Club understanding that the clothing is higher end, and there are no sales- sticker price is what you pay. I will say, however, that you pay for quality and that there's a notable difference in how my Trunk Club pants and my off-the-rack pants fit. All in all, I love this place. My budget only allows me to shop there once a season, but I look forward to it every time. read more

My husband and I ordered a trunk in July. Due to the holiday & a death in the family, we were unable to pick it up until July 27 - which was weeks after it arrived at the resort we were staying at. However, our stylist, Rebekah, was calling the resort daily (according the the receiving manager at least once if not multiple times per day) - so she knew we didn't actually pick up the trunk until that day. According to trunk club's website, we have 10 days to look over the trunk and decide what we would like to keep and what we would like to send back. HOWEVER, we were getting calls every single day (before we could even pick the trunk up!) about scheduling a pickup - which we finally got fed up with &, since trunk club is a division of Nordstrom's felt comfortable saying we would just keep the trunks - without even seeing the items in person. My husband and I are EXTREMELY unhappy with trunk club at this point. At first, we were telling all of our friends about how great the concept was - and promised to let them know about our trunks so they could join as well. But, due to really bad customer service (it is beyond really bad!!!) & the issues outlined here, Neither of us are at all comfortable telling anyone about the service - unless it is warning them to stay away. The clothes are NOT great quality or fit - not even CLOSE to what you would expect from this price point (we have awesome clothes at this price point & even slightly below that fit amazingly without alterations & that are definitely higher quality!!!!) All but three items in my trunk have had to be sent for alterations (which I never have to do). We had specifically requested certain fits/styles that were completely ignored. The constant calls & general snooty attitude, along with the "stretching of the truth" by both Lucas & Rebekah have soured this experience for us. Additionally, despite their website saying we have 10 days to decide once we receive the clothes (which in this case was considerably after ups delivered - but again, our stylist was calling the resort daily to check on the trunks and knew we didn't pick them up until July 27) and yet we were being told we has to decide before we ever saw them! How could we possibly recommend this to friends when we have been treated so poorly, our tastes ignored, and so obviously not even giving us the time their website says clients have once the receive their trunk??? We've reached out (4 emails & 2 calls & counting) to trunk club customer service and John Tucker (who is supposed to be the VP of customer relations) with absolutely no response. I have been a Trunk Club customer for almost a year now and I am still on the fence about it. So basically you get a trunk once a month with 8-12 items that your stylist has picked out for you to try along with outfit suggestions. You have 5 days to try them on, keep what you want and send the rest back. My husband got me a gift card for my birthday last year and after about a half hour online, I was set up with my stylist. I told her that I don't spend a whole lot on my clothes (Kohls and Target are my go-to's) and that I detest the color pink. Other than that I was open to anything. I'm not sure how much she took this into consideration when picking my trunks but there have definitely been some questionable clothing! $200 sunglasses, $300 pants, several pink shirts and for some reason a lot of plaid shirts. I do really like the app, it's very user friendly and allows you to leave feedback (not sure if my stylist ever sees my feedback though!). You can also schedule a free pick-up when you are ready to send your trunk back. While I have purchased a few nice staples I ultimately send most stuff back. I've been using The Trunk Club for a very short while now, and have received and ravaged my way through a couple of trunks. I love the idea; I think they have a great business model. Upon joining The Trunk Club, I was set up with a stylist named Teresa. She's been a wonderful stylist, and I've really liked almost 90% of the things she's sent me. The sizes/styles of things she has sent me have been very consistent with the preliminary information I gave her. The trunks have always arrived on time, and they include the return shipping labels, so you don't have to worry about shipping costs. Only issue here is the price for the items. My god, some of the shirts I've received are an upwards of $260. That's more than I paid for some of my shoes! (And I love shoes). So far I've bought a total of 7 items between the two trunks and I'm in about $900. Not terrible I guess, but still very pricey. Anyway, hopefully I get another promotion soon so I can continue to afford the clothes they send me. read more

I never sent the trunk back, you guys too that upon yourselves to sent it and then recall it.  Worse experience ever. I won't recommend you.  Let's let's start from the beginning. 1. I bounce around between several people before ever getting to review anything in the beginning.  2. I'm promised to receive my trunk before New year's Eve 2017. But doesn't happen because someone takes off , no one contacts me, someone else takes over. They have to start from scratch. 3.Then you guys appologize and say we will make sure you get your items before the convention I have next week. Oh wait we have to verify your identity! So that delays the next trunk. The back and forth between girls again making more delays. 4. Finally a trunk gets shipped almost a month later after I have originally contacted you.  5. It gets shipped but oh wait your card didn't go through, let's recall the trunk so she still won't have it in time as promised twice. Not even giving anyone a chance to remedy the card you took over a month ago. 6. Now let's back things up here. My husband has ordered two trunks that he never received. Let's review this one now. 7. His first trunk flowed just fine but when delivered no one was home. And he never received his package. You people were notified and refunded his $25 because there was no record with UPS.  8. Then you guys had to verify his identity before his second trunk went out... ok did that. 9. He was told the next trunk would have to be signed for which IS GREAT! No one notified him when the trunk was to be shipped, he didn't get to review the final trunk and was not informed when it was going out. He gets an email stating it was shipped....oh wait but we are in St Louis MO at this time. No one will be home to sign. So he messages the person who informed him of the shipment. He addresses we are not home... WHY WASN'T THAT PACKAGE RECALLED AS MINE WAS AT THAT POINT???? 10. So while in St Louis that so called package is delivered, no one is home, and low and behold you guys say someone signed for it. BS no one was here. And is a neighbor signed for it they would have taken it inside their home, and I don't believe ups would give something to a neighbor with out consent. But supposedly someone signed SMITH, well we don't sign anything SMITH. So I assume UPS must have signed for it so they could leave it... again BS not any fault of ours. Your service is terrible from the start, communication is horrible, tactics suck, and over all mail order plan has too many issues.  11. What happened to customer service, customer satisfaction, this hole thing has been a hassle and we feel violated!  I would rather go to a store , a mall, shopping in person, deal with a person face to face with honesty and integrity. Stand in line and pay for and know what I am getting.  I will not use this service or any service like this again. I hate shopping for clothes especially dress pants. My office went from business casual to casual and now back to business casual. Seriously, who does that?!?! I had about a week to find dress pants that would fit me. Searching thru stores for hours on end is something I don't have time for. My husband came to Trunk Club for his suit as well as a few other items before. He loved how easy it was. Bingo! I thought why not just visit the Chicago Trunk Club myself. It was easy peasy setting up an appointment. I told them exactly what I need, my style, my size, my likes and don't likes. You check in with the receptionist when you arrive. Then you're escorted to their bar. The bartender will pour you a drink of your choosing. I love drinking so this was a nice perk. Met with my stylist, Kristen, to talk about more about what I was looking for. She was super friendly and really took the time to listen. A few minutes later she came out with a rack of clothes as well as shoes. Gotta have the shoes! Found 2 amazing pairs of dress pants along with the comfiest jeans and a top. I've worn these dress pants outside of work a billion times. What would've taken me weeks to find she was able to do it in less than 1.5 hours! Yes, is Trunk Club is pricey. However, the service and quality are outstanding. You really get what you pay for here. I love how the experience is customized to the customer. All items are tailored for free and can be shipped. I had a phenomenal experience this week at Trunk Club and can't imagine ever buying another item of clothing without using trunk club. My stylist Erin was patient and found me some fantastic items that flatter my body type and skin tone. I feel super put together and confident wearing the items I purchased. The price point on most items was fair and the items I splurged on should last me a long time. It is waaaay better than the old model where every item was insanely expensive. I walked out of there paying about 700 for 7 items and am thrilled with all of them. Will return. read more

Thought I'd give this a try about a year ago. Seemed like a great idea. Convenient, personal service, etc... Paying more was not an issue to me. I just wanted to get the clothes I wanted and that fit without having to spend as much time. Reality was a LOT different. I can't imagine a way to spend more time dealing with clothes than Trunk Club. I'm not a small guy and asked when I talked to my stylist if that would be a problem. They assured me that it would not. We'd easily find clothes that fit. Great. I agreed to custom fitted clothes, and a trunk to be sent. They took all my measurements. We talked at length about what I was looking for from the trunk to be sent. I explained I wanted casual clothes. I wanted button down shirts and casual pants, but NO jeans. I wanted to look better when going out. The first trunk arrived and I was pretty disappointed that almost nothing fit. My trunk contained "Slim fit" shirts. Really? Pants were too small. The shoes had a buckle that tore off when I tried to buckle it. I kept a few things. But I was a little concerned everything was too small, reinforcing my belief that Trunk Club is not for guys built like me. But, I left a LOT of feedback and explained why I was returning each item, hoping it would result and a better second trunk. Second Trunk arrives... Everything was too small. Except, or course, the jeans... lots of jeans. which I had specifically asked not to receive. Custom fitted clothes? Well... You have to drive to a Trunk Club to try them on. They'll come to your house, they say, during work hours, or on a Saturday. Mine cancelled the house appointment. Twice. So I took the hint and went to the Trunk Club 30 miles from my house. Nothing fit. Not close. They insisted they could be altered, but I was skeptical. They altered. Came to my house with the clothes. Nothing fit. Not even close. At this point I had met with my "stylist" 3 times. Driven 60 miles round trip. Returned 2 trunks, and had nothing to show for it. What a waste of time and money. I just couldn't handle anymore time wasted on this and kept the custom clothes and cancelled my membership. read more

I've read some really positive blog reviews of Trunk Club so thought I'd give it a try. I regularly shop at Nordstrom so I knew what to expect price wise. I didn't realize, however, that I'd still be paying full price for something that's already discounted at the store. If they basically carry the Nordstrom inventory, why not extend the same prices as Nordstrom.com? (seems like an easy way to dump discounted inventory) I was matched up with a stylist and chatted with her for a while explaining what I wanted. There were items in the box that could have worked but didn't fit well, so I don't fault her for that. Everyone prefers things to fit differently. I did ask for easy to wear and care for clothing, however, and in the first box there were 4 dry clean only pieces. The only thing I considered keeping were the jeans...and I don't need to pay for styling services to pick those. I sent everything back and was pretty specific in my notes, commenting again on not wanting fussy clothing. I also noted that while I don't mind investing in key pieces, I wasn't paying $200-$400 for basic tops (got several of these in the first trunk). When I got the note to review the 2nd Trunk, I cancelled my membership and don't even bother wasting time and sending everything back again. White cloth sneakers? Def high maintenance. A $300 muscle tank? Precisely what I said I didn't want. The rest of the Trunk - from what I remember - had a tight red mini dress (very not me), a shapeless looking white dress, boxy and short chambray jacket, etc. I didn't even see anything that was remotely appealing. Let's talk for a minute about how a business like this works. How it has to work. I'm going to assume you already know what these folks do. If not, read the other reviews. It's a simple but intelligent concept. Here's where I'm going to add value. First, the clothes these folks ship you are not going to be at rock-bottom prices. They can't be. Why? Well, first of all they're paying to FedEx them to you, and they send a pre-paid FedEx return label. DiscountFashionStuff.tv, or wherever you're going to price-compare, ain't gonna do that. That price needs to be built into the cost of your clothes. Second, Trunk Club employs people whose job it is to figure you out, and figure out what will look good on you, and what you'll enjoy, and how to expand your fashion horizons beyond what you already have. Even in this economy, those people aren't free. Their salaries have to be built into the cost of your clothes. If you know exactly what you want, you can go to MartysBasementOpenBox.me and just click on the shirt and they'll send it to you. Having no fashion consultant involvement lowers Marty's costs, and he passes the savings on to you (that and some ties to the Mexican drug cartels keeps his prices cut-throat. Literally.). But then, Marty has no one who can help you find something new. You're on your own. I'm an Amazon Prime guy, and have been for years. I've got Red Laser on my phone and I'll openly use it in a store. I get the concept of using the web to save money on stuff. But one thing we're going to have to grapple with in the age of e-commerce is how we value intelligent assistance from the vendor. Back in the 50s, you could walk into any department store and get waited on patiently by someone who knew what they were doing. In the 90s, WalMart slowly killed off most of that outside of major metro centers, and replaced it with cheap, Chinese-made clothing and no assistance whatsoever. By the early 00s, Amazon and Zappos and others were doing the same thing with name-brand, designer stuff that WalMart wouldn't carry. Always, the trend was the same: service went away, prices dropped slightly. Here's my concern. If we're not carefully, we're going to turn all of shopping into a vending machine transaction, hosted in the ether. When you know exactly what you want, maybe that's okay. But when you want someone to suggest something new or different or just outside of what you were thinking of but actually excellent and awesome and it turns out you love it, the vending machine ain't gonna do that. And if every business that could have, would have, helped you has been driven out of business because someone wanted to save $10, well..... So, yes: that shirt that a nice, pleasant Chicagoan spent his or her afternoon selecting, tracking down, and FedEx'ing to you CAN be bought for 10% or 15% or maybe even 25% less over at ItFellOffATruck.it. But you wouldn't even know that shirt existed if it wasn't for that stylist. And if you can see the value in having an immediately available, handy, friendly, service-oriented resource for expanding your closet and your mind, then you'll immediately see the value added by these folks. And you'll gladly open your wallet to pay for it. And if you don't see the value, then ship the trunk back to them and hit the internet. I'm sure you can find 8 more versions of something you already own. At bargain prices. It won't bother me a bit. I'll just be over here. Looking sharp. read more

Apparently this is a new thing, but recently was assigned a new rep since mine left. After many phone calls, I told her I would contact her when I needed something. As of last week I started receiving emails from her saying she was going to send me a trunk. I didn't not reply bc I didn't request a trunk. Today, I received a shipment confirmation that a trunk has been sent to my address (which I haven't lived at in over a year). I'm still not sure why a truck was sent in the first place. As we all know, these trunks contain around 1000-1500 in clothes that is now floating out around Chicago. Thank you trunk club for now inconveniencing me. I now have to track down this package that I never ordered. I'm not sure if this rep is new or not, but this new concept of throwing enough trunks against the wall and hopefully something will stick, is a terrible business model that just lost a customer. Yes the initial concept of trunk club is great, but this new model will be the downfall of trunk clubs reputation and financially, with outstanding inventory. Buyer beware! read more

Awesome Concept! Super Convenient! Extraordinarily Expensive! I cancelled after my first trunk. There was a pair of pants that I would have entertained wearing (they were OK, not out of this world) and they were priced at just under $200, and of course this is before I would have had to take them in to get hemmed (they send all pants at 34 length) There was a nice black v-neck t-shirt that could have gone in my casual wardrobe, if I was willing to pay $50 for it. If you spend a lot of money on your clothing then this is for you, but unless you're spending $300+ per outfit on a company account then this service will just end up being a waste of your time both on the phone with your stylist and then finding a Fed Ex location to return it. I'd love to see someone use this same model for reasonable priced clothes. It's a very smart concept to be sure. read more

Meh... So I started going to trunk club a few months ago and enjoyed it. So much so that I decided to order a custom sport coat. I was told it would be 6 weeks or so for the jacket - not unusual as I also have an overseas tailor that I regularly use. 8 weeks later I pop into the shop to get a status update - I hadn't heard anything from them. Turns out the liner I wanted was on back order. No one bothered to let me know. The jacket still hadn't been started (this was a friday). I was promised an update by monday. 2 weeks later, no update, no jacket and no cash in my pocket that I spent on nothing as yet. I'm pretty pissed. Monday I'll be canceling my order. Let's see how hard it is to get a refund... I'm not holding my breath. more to come... read more

Great concept, not executed well, very expensive for the quality and style. I joined recently and had some very positive interactions with my stylist. I got a trunk of about 10 items, and kept 3, and returned the rest. the process went fairly well,. I kept a very well fitting and comfortable pair of $200 jeans, but after a couple of weeks and about 10 wearings and a few washings, they developed a huge worn spot in the crotch area about an inch wide. I am a jeans person and have never had such a problem.. but I guess the breeze is nice :) My stylist contacted me a few weeks later and I asked her about a return policy, and said that it was probably normal wear and tear. Disappointedly, my answer was that I was expecting a different answer, and have not heard back. Oh well, awesome concept. I'll stick with my local retailers, where I can expect blue jeans that last a bit longer than a few weeks. read more

Well.. for the price of the clothing offered here, I expected a better customer experience. I could never get hold of anybody on the phone. They only answered their office phone once and then directed me to an answerphone. My assigned stylist never answered her mobile phone and it didn't even have an answerphone message on it. So all up, this service was a bomb. You want my money, I don't want to have to run around after you. And you should review some of the things your stylists say on email, they aren't very professional. Sorry guys, you suck. read more

This is a review for the delivery service, though I hope to try the fitting room in person soon. IN the meantime, I poured myself a glass of wine to enjoy while trying on the clothes to make my selections...so at least I have a teensy taste of the clubhouse experience! My stylist Kaley was amazing. If this review was based only on her service, it would be 5 stars. They use UPS so weekend delivery is not possible. I'm not sure why that choice was made, but I imagine most of their clientele work during the week. Not many stay-at-home moms can afford a $200 dress. I was concerned with how badly damaged and dirty one of my items ended up being. A tank top had one completely stretched out shoulder strap, like it had gotten caught on a hanger and whoever packed the trunk opted to pull it. It was also dusty and wrinkled, like it had spent time on a dirty warehouse floor. It was disappointing because I had already mentally committed to purchasing that item. I would have preferred to have been told the item was out of stock rather than have to dust if off in my house . Other than that, delivery and checkout were a bit awkward. Once the delivery is received you have 5 days to decide what you want to keep and schedule a pickup. You can pick a specific pickup day, but not a delivery day - only a delivery week. I'd love to be able to pick my delivery day since I'm not always home to receive the trunk. I had to have my delivery held because no one would be home to receive it and I wasn't too keen on having $1,000 worth of clothes just sitting on my porch all day. The trunks are a bit too large to receive at my office. Once you've packed up the trunk and it's been picked up, you must then wait for it to be received and reviewed by Trunk Club before your credit card is actually charged. I'd prefer to be able to pay for my items when giving feedback and scheduling pickup through the app. Stitch Fix offers this capability, and I enjoy being able to make a purchase and put it out of my mind. With Trunk Club, you are billed on a random day the next week and sent a receipt. read more

I was turned on to Trunk Club by a blurb in a Salesforce.com presentation early Spring 2013. While parts of this process have been a little rocky, I have purchased from several trunks and on balance am very happy with this service/seller. I signed up online and was assigned a stylist (Tom). He very quickly gave me a call (He offered the option of email or phone call depending on what I preferred) to go over basics...what my goals were, what I wanted out of the service, what kinds of clothes I wore, etc). I was very blunt in that I didn't know anything about clothes, didn't know about how to match one thing to another, and for that reason I didn't care for the whole clothes-buying thing. He immediately understood where I was coming from and started helping me with concepts right away. I started out needing some better clothes for work (I really hate business casual...full of pitfalls and 80% of the office is just wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants every freaking day.) and then later branched out into better home/weekend clothing. Tom has been very flexible with the shifting focus here, not to mention patient. For example, I think the last time I wore a pair of jeans was in 2002 - Tom went the extra mile to try finding me a pair that I'd be happy with. I will say the first couple of trunks were duds - nothing fit, though that is to be expected as the stylist needs some time to dial into your sizes and preferences. After receiving a trunk you are invited to TRY EVERYTHING ON and leave feedback via their website or mobile app. This is an important step, as it's your way to specifically communicate with your stylist exactly why you liked/didn't like something. The more specific and descriptive you are, the better. By the third trunk I was thrilled with what I was receiving and it was obvious Tom had me pegged. The customer does have some responsibility too though...I decided early on that I was going to get out of my comfort zone here and trust Tom. By doing this I purchased some things that I never would have bought otherwise (White pants!), and I gotta say they look pretty good. I get compliments now on my clothing, something that has NEVER happened to me before. One side benefit, though I think Trunk Club would hate to acknowledge it, is that the service has given me more confidence to buy clothes in general (ie, not from Trunk Club.). This is an educational process here as much as convenient shopping experience. That said, the quality of the items I get from Trunk Club is obvious over similar (but not identical) lower-priced products you'd find at, oh, JC Penney or wherever. Now then, about price. The service euphemistically says they are at Nordstrom/Nieman Marcus level pricing, and they aren't kidding. You are paying full retail for designer labels. Obviously this is because company overhead (shipping both ways, the salary of your stylist, etc etc) is all built into that price point. So to me the question isn't if that shirt is, on its own, worth the $150 or whatever...it's whether you are getting value from the entire service with that purchase. Would you have known about that shirt otherwise? Would you have even thought to have tried it on? Would you have received fashion/outfit advice from that discount online retailer? To me that's the real value - having someone I can trust to talk to about these kinds of things. Inre customer service issues, I've not had a real problem. There are some times when my voice mails to Tom have apparently gotten lost, or there was a miscue about scheduling trunks. But overall Tom has been very responsive and accessible. I get the sense that the communication issues are stylist-dependent...some stylists may drop the ball, others may go the extra mile. To close this very lengthy review up, I see Trunk Club as something where you get out of it what you put in. If you don't have the time or inclination to fuss with the feedback after trying everything on (and lots of people don't, no judgement there) you will likely be frustrated. But I think if you stick with it and keep telling your stylist what does or doesn't work for you, and give the stylist a decent amount of discretion, you'll be happy with the service. read more

I heard about Trunk Club listening to an Earwolf podcast, and since I spend all of my disposable income on food, alcohol, or clothing (I love being single) I went to check out their website. One of their consultants, Kim, emailed me that day (not an automated email, from what I could tell) to introduce herself and ask for a short phone call. During the phone call the next day, she told me about their brick-and-mortar location in River North, which sounded pretty cool. I got an appointment with her for the following Tuesday after work. Upon arriving, I was pretty surprised at how nice their store/showroom was. They had a full bar and offered me a drink, but I'd just spent the weekend doing too much of that, so I stuck with water. I talked to Kim for a few minutes about what I needed/already had, and she brought some pretty cool selections of button downs, pants, etc. The 3 button down shirts she brought were all spot on for my style, but a bit pricey even for Bonobos and Gant Rugger. I did end up buying 2 of them because, hey, I'm buying a service too, right? The value proposition is there. Speaking of which, I noticed that around 80% of the employees there were super-attractive women, which I'd have to assume is catering to their ideal target market of fashion-retarded bros who want to look like they know how to spend their investment bank paychecks in ways other than getting hella blackout around the corner at Untitled every Saturday. This tactic didn't really work on me, per se, since I'm not really swayed that easily. If only I were driven solely by testosterone instead of logic and reason...if only. Either way, I was a die hard internet shopper before my visit, and that's not likely to change. I appreciate the suggestions from Kim, the cool design of their space, and the offer of a free drink, but I also like doing my clothes shopping in my underwear at 2 am drinking my roommates' beer, so there's that. If you like brick-and-mortar shopping, have a few extra bucks to spend, and need some help building your wardrobe (and sartorial confidence) up from "let's smoke weed in my dorm", then definitely check this place out. read more

Preface: I didn't receive a trunk, so I can't attest to the quality of clothes. There's plenty of other reviews like that elsewhere. If you are an independent (or dependent, I suppose it doesn't matter) college student, this service is not for you. Unless you've got money to burn. Trunk club does give pricing online, but it tends to the more extreme pricing. And my stylist, who shall remain nameless, was very condescending when she learned that I was a college student capable of finding clothes of the caliber Trunk Club was offering for a fifth of the price. If you have money falling out of your pockets and a wallet as thick as a subway sandwich, this service would be fantastic. If you're a normal person with any sort of a budget, not so much. You can look just as good for a fraction of the price the Club charges. As for style consulting and finding out what looks good... Males: if you have a few trusted female friends or a significant other, consult them. They're no professionals, but they know what looks good on you better than any professional stylist. Remember, the Club is a business, and looks to make money. Sure the stylists are knowledgeable and can find what looks good on you, but they don't KNOW you like a female friend or significant other would. Females: Pinterest. And other female friends. That should do the trick. If I had the money and I wasn't so turned off by the condescension of my stylist and the price ranges, I would use Trunk Club as a base-line to find things that look good on me, and then find those clothes elsewhere for a much less bank-breaking price. read more

Other reviewers have nailed it -- you use Trunk Club because you like to present yourself nicely, but you don't have the time to go exploring (shopping) brands you may not have an interest in yet. You're paying about a 20-30% premium on clothes. I say this because you're paying full retail. So right off the bat, if you shop online sales with coupon codes and cashback sites, you're not going to get those savings. What you do get if you choose to, is an in person appointment where a stylist soaks in tidbits of you from your current style, preferences, lifestyle, and interests to get an idea of clothes to have you try on. My three hour appointment on a Friday afternoon with Shannon Keleher was time well spent. Within 15 minutes of meeting and chatting with me, Shannon was off to the back room to pick entire outfits out for me. The brands presented were familiar, but included ones that I had never walked into a store and tried on before. "Expensive"? Yes, if you never pay retail. Worth it? Yes, if you don't have loads of times to go out and shop. Remember, Trunk Club's value isn't in selling clothes. Their value is in introducing brands and styles to you based on you. PROS: + Hip River North loft location with a full bar to get some good free drinks before, during, and after your appointment (312 on tap, and Hendrick's gin are big pluses in my book) + Knowledgeable stylists who really do work to understand you and your style + Mainstream brands that range in moderately expensive to expensive CONS: - The onsite selection could be expanded, but the in-person appointments are really meant to be a "feeler" interaction before you go and try their trunk service (direct-to-home shipments of clothing) - Without having tried/bought from here, their custom clothing onsite is prohibitively expensive. For example, their full custom shirts start around $160 and go up from there. Other places in the city (Sebastien Grey) and online (Indochino) start at ~$75. read more

Trunk Club. What is it? Basically, Trunk Club is a personal shopping and styling service for men... on steroids. If you're on Yelp odds are you display some of the following characteristics: - the ability to use a computer - an interest in technology - comfort with online purchases - passion for seeking out all things new and cool Why is this important? Well, because Trunk Club basically caters to these type of people. So let's delve one rung deeper; of these people, which ones are most likely to use Trunk Club? I think you fall into one of three categories: 1) you're a fashion retard that needs help... badly 2) you're fashion forward but are looking for new brands and ideas to keep you ahead of the curve 3) you like to dress well, or at least look well dressed, but you either hate the shopping experience or you simply don't have time for it Whichever one of these categories you fit into, Trunk Club has you covered. The service basically works like this. You fill out a simple online profile, and then one of the personal shoppers calls you and asks you a bunch of questions, mostly centered around trying to gauge what it is that you're looking for (if anything in particular at all). After that, you wait a couple days and boom, the next thing you know a big box shows up with a bunch of stuff in it. Everything from shirts to shoes to undershirts, socks, collar stays, t-shirts, shorts, jackets and everything in between. This is where it gets cool. If you want (totally up to you), you can get back in touch with the your stylist and she walks you through your trunk. What she picked out, why she picked it out, how she envisioned you wearing it, which clothes go with what, etc. Oh, did I mention this can happen over Skype? Yea, totally badass. So here you are, trying on a bunch of clothes in the comfort of your own home, and you have an attractive, well-versed-in-fashion stylist helping you decide, via live video, if the pair of Genetic Denim that you just tried on is actually cool or way too tight thereby making you look like a NYC hipster that belongs in the LES with a PBR in hand. Awesome, I know. Oh yea, there's no membership fees, no shipping costs (to you or back to the company!), and you only pay for what you keep. You end up building a relationship with the stylist and the more you work with them the better they know you, and it just makes the shopping experience that much better. And for the record, I've told a lot of different people about the service; people that are my age (28), former bosses (55) and my younger brother (19). They have something for everyone. Get on the wagon now because first and foremost, you probably need it, and second off, then you can be "that guy" that's like, "oh, Trunk Club? Yea, I've been using them since 2011... it's rad, whatever, no big deal." giddyup read more

Absolutely overpriced and nothing out of the ordinary. Despite my best efforts to relay what I'd like to my stylist, I wound up with clothing that was not my style and also did not even fit me properly. Also, certain items, like ties and socks, they seem to send even without request. I have plenty of socks that I do not have to pay an over-inflated price for another pair. In theory this business is a great idea. But when you actually give it a try, you will realize why it is just not feasible to have someone style you without ever seeing you in person. Most, if not all, of the articles of clothing they stock are also carried at your local Nordstrom. There you can try them on and fit yourself instead of having someone do it over the phone and fail. I have to be honest - love the concept, love the service and love my stylist taste. But the prices for your gear is astronomical. Let's be frank - the people who can afford a full trunk - probably has a stylist already and a personal tailor. So I think they should possibly consider asking some of their clients - do you want A grade, B grade or C grade items? Asking whats their budget and what they would like to spend. I really loved the clothes they sent - but my trunk was well at $2K - I kept the blazer and tops and returned some other items. I'm going to stick with them and see - if they can improve on the price points. But it surprises me that no other company has tried this yet, but with lower price points - because the concept is phenominal and I could see the benefits for mid-level professional that's in the $40K - $70K - that needs to dress up on a daily basis. Overall I think it's a good idea. My experience was less than expected. After having to call in to reach my assigned person, a box was promptly sent out and I received it a week later. I was told to try it on and send back what I didn't want. Everything went fine, however, that's the last I heard from Lauren. No followup. No how is it going with that shirt or those shorts. I consistantly get phone calls and mail from sales reps at Nordstrom, Hugo Boss, Neimans, etc. I guess I feel that for the price, I got no added value. I suppose if you live in an area without any major shopping, this could be a good option for you. I shop primarily at Nordstrom and Hugo Boss. The prices of the items were at or a little higher than my norm and for brands that I had never heard of. I'm fine paying an expected price for an established brand. read more
