Margaret O'Leary is based in San Francisco and offers a variety of knitwear items. They have a modest collection of scarves, sweaters, tops, some accessories, jewelry, and shoes. My sister and I stopped by while in the area, and she fell in love with their sweaters! I liked one of their pink-colored scarves as well as some of their Hammitt cross-body bags and purses. Prices are more on the high end, but they do have a little rack in the front with sale items throughout the season. On a side note, some of their ankle boots were cute, but I found some long pieces of hair stuck on them, so they was pretty off-putting! I pass this shop all the time on the way to the train station nearby. I stopped in a few times and was impressed by the style. The clothes are pretty expensive but they gave great customer service and the quality seems pretty good. read more

This place is ridiculous. I bought a pair of jeans only to have it fall apart in a couple of wears. I brought them back and was told the store wouldn't do anything about it but she could check if the manufacturer would be willing to replace them. I waited months for a replacement and had to follow up many, many times to even get a response or eta. Finally the second pair came in only to have the exact same defect. When I told the store they told me they'd do nothing about it now regardless of the fact that this products obviously has a consistent issue. If you want to pay a hefty price for clothing and have a store hide behind "store policy" when the product fails, this is the place for you. read more

I was in Chicago visiting a friend. I was so excited to see a Margaret O'Leary boutique! I didn't know there were actual stores, but I've purchased the sweaters from another boutique in my home town and I'm somewhat familiar with the brand. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with my visit. There was a tall blonde girl working and she was remarkably unpleasant towards my friend and me. As I asked questions she gave me discourteous and short responses . I proceeded to ask if all the sweaters were made from cashmere? - Her response was "yes, most people can't afford it due to its high price point." She also made it a point to tell us that "she was born and raised in highland park and that she was accustomed to wearing expensive things her whole life." I was asking because I've recently developed a skin condition that makes wool very uncomfortable. She continued to glare at my friend and me as we browsed. My friend and I were offended and we left because we felt unwelcome, from her especially. I love my sweaters that I've purchased years ago. I was looking forward to purchasing more that day , but this experience has left me on a sour note. Just awful. read more

Margaret O'Leary has absolutely beautiful things. The store layout is gorgeous and easy to shop. You want to touch everything when you go in because of how it's displayed and how soft the fabric is! And Amy provides great customer service. She is super knowledgeable about the product and you can tell she loves working for the brand. I live in the neighborhood and popped over and bought a very nice sweater. Well worth the price. After all the traveling I do noticed it was starting to pill. I brought it in and talked to the gas their and no questions asked, they sent it back to the country where it was made and it came back good as new. As if I had a new sweater. When we were visiting Chicago, we went to the MO store on Armitage. We were there almost two hours--my wife bought five or six items--and Alisa and Jessica made the afternoon a real pleasure. Shopping with a toddler can be stressful, so I couldn't help but have low expectations the moment my two year old son and I peeked in the door of Margaret O'Leary. However, I couldn't have been more incorrect. Alyssa and Amy (perhaps sensing my fears) immediately assisted me with my stroller up the two steps into the store--somehow making my son laugh in the process. From there, it became one of the most relaxing (and fun) shopping experiences to date. The clothes speak for itself-beautiful, unique, high quality and comfortable. But what makes Margaret O'Leary even more special is the exceptional customer service. Alyssa and Amy quickly pulled styles that fit my taste, my body type and my lifestyle...all while managing to keep my son entertained. I couldn't have been more thankful for their kindness, their knowledge, their good taste and their keen eye for what would work best for me.
