My wife and I have been to Trusty Chords several times over the last couple years. Today we went to check out the record store day event. While waiting in line my wife was talking to me and said she always wants to branch out with music, someone behind the counter interceded with something along the lines of "yeah but it's hard when Laufey is putting out the same album and you have to keep buying it". (I had picked up the Laufey album, but the statement was definately aimed at my wife, sorry I'm too basic) it came across weird, judgy, and offputting, and soiled the experience. I understand that niche interests like records can sometimes facilitate pretentiousness, but dang, next time I want to pay an above average price for some girly pop bossa nova music I'll find another record store. read more

A horrible record store. Definitely. Make sure you keep your receipt. Although if you get a record there from a family member as a gift for your birthday, you wouldn't have a receipt now, would you? They don't even do store credit. My son got a record from there. Brand new sealed, supposedly. And it was not the group that it said it was on the record. It was a totally different genre, wrong record. Misprint, horrible. The worker wouldn't even play the miss labeled record. If that's any indication, the rest of their records are probably not legitimate. **Update, for clarification. My autistic son went into this record store with his uncle and stepdad. His uncle provided a screenshot of his private secure banking website. To prove that records were bought on a specific day. A banking statement shows that on a specific day, we bought records from a store called trusty cords. unless they're selling pies in there or orthotic shoes.. haha. chances are , ya bought a vinyl record. because that's mainly what they sell there. My son has a photo of all his records, he took it to show his friends. If we zoom in, we can see that it came from trusty cords. As shown on a very poorly, but self made store tag. And this is all in a photograph with the same date and timestamp, that matches the secure bank information that shows proof that the record in the photo, matches the Fake record that was bought in the store that day. I mean, again, receipts are amazing, But not when it's a gift. and we have done more than enough to prove that it came from there.. Store credit isn't even offered for such an inconvenience for a Fake Scam record. Further proof that this store is scamming customers by selling mismarked records on purpose. Went in over the Black Friday weekend. Guy behind the counter was rude from the moment we walked in. After looking around for a few minutes and noticing the prices were higher than all the other places we normally go, plus the rude attitude, we decided there was zero chance of us spending any money there. Stay away from places that admittedly hike their prices compared to other places in the vicinity and are rude to their customers. Just peruse the business responses to people who have left negative reviews and you'll get a feel for what he is all about. Should have checked the reviews before going, but now we know better and hope to keep people from making the same mistake we did. At least the review/comment section made for a fun read. read more

The latest thing to happen in E'ville is this place located (kind of hidden) in Montclaire Shopping Center. It has been open since 11/10/2018, and so far it has shown signs of success. You will find plenty of records, spanning most genres. A lot of them I find to be reasonably priced. They also have cassettes (somebody please tell me how these are making a comeback?!) and CDs. There's even a bargain bin for titles $5 and under. Other pieces of merchandise include T-shirts, Funko Pops (no superheroes, just rock related), turntable/record player gear, and more. If you are a record/music collector, by all means check this place out. You may even find something to fit your collection. read more

I hate disparaging a record shop because I really want to see them succeed. Here is my impression on my visit: - Definitely overpriced compared to many other stores I frequent. However, there may be reasons I am not aware of (overhead, reissue selection, quality control) - I walked in and the music was so loud that when I asked the guy at the counter a question he had to yell back "What?" and I had to basically yell because its really not possible to talk in there. At least not during my visit. - I had two young teens with me just getting into vinyl and with limited budgets. I remembered reading one of the reviews here mentioned a bargain bin of $5 records. When I asked the guy at the counter, he said they had no bargain bins. He said there might be some lower priced ones mixed in but no specific place. I continued shopping and about 10 minutes later noticed that all along the lower shelf were boxes of $5 albums in various music categories. Why in the world would he not mention all those to me? He definitely seemed more interested in whatever he was reading. I don't live in the area so no chance I'll be returning but I do hope for their sake that others have better experiences. read more

I live in Missouri and was over in edwardsville helping my dad this morning. Hours on google listed as 11 am. I was done and ready to head out of town around 10 and figured I would hang around and check this shop out. Get there at 11 and the place is closed. Sign on the door says they open at 11ish. OK, so where do I start? I've waited a few weeks to actually post this review to process what all had happened and what was said and done to me on my recent visit to Trusty Chords record shop on April 15th and put it into words. I had never been here before, nor had I ever heard of them before I Googled record shops near me....I was looking for a couple specific Snoop Dogg albums and had exhausted all the options for record shops out my way near St Charles MO so I saw Trusty Chords in Edwardsville IL on Google and called there to see if they had the albums I was looking for. The guy on the phone was nothing but a jerk....when I asked him if he could look and see if he had the 2 particular albums I was looking for, his response was "can't you drive over here like any other normal person and look yourself"...I told him I lived 40+ miles (50 minutes) away and wanted to check before I drove all that way...and he told me he was gonna charge me for him looking--which I thought was a joke, but I guess maybe not. Then when he said ya we have some Snoop Dogg albums, I once again asked if he had the 2 particular album titles I had asked for and what the prices were on those....he then proceeded to insult me by saying "omg, are you breaking open your lil piggy bank to be able to afford these"! --no I'm not poor dude, but I wanted to make sure on prices before I drove almost 2 hours round-trip when I could order these online, but sorry I was trying to support local shops. So I drive over to the store and go in....as I walk around and pick up his stack of Snoop Dogg albums he says "oh you must of been the guy who called earlier....wow, you actually spent the money and made the journey over here". I shook it off, I was only still getting the albums because I wanted them to get them autographed in a couple of days. I go to check out and this guy is nothing but a jerk, he rings me out and my 2 albums were $21 and $32...but somehow my total is $61.65, so I ask what the tax rate is in Edwardsville since my total sounds high and he says "I can charge you whatever I want..."-- finishes charging my card even tho I said wait...and then says "I can charge fees if you use a credit card, it's posted, maybe you should learn how to read dumbass" and points at the counter. I ask if he's the owner and he said "yep, got a problem with me...you can talk to me". I asked him for his name and for a business card and he grabbed one and threw it on the floor and said if I wanted it I could pick it up off the floor! As I grab my 2 albums I was charged for, and at this point am flabbergasted, being a non-confrontational person, I had had enough....I walked towards the door and looked back and just said "dude...u don't gotta be such a jerk....no im not robbing my piggy bank as u accused me of on the phone, I live almost an hour away and gas prices are high....but maybe you should be a lil nicer to people who are supporting your store". That's when Mr Tough guy decided to threaten me and said "oh now you wanna get confrontational as your walking out the door you lil f**ckin b**ch...why dont u step back in here and handle it as a man...wanna go bro". As I pulled out my phone to video this maniac as he yelled and threatened me and screamed profanities at me, I thought about calling the cops because as a store owner he was verbally assaulting me. But as soon as I got my camera out to record him, he rescinded and changed his tone, then tried to tell me as I videoed that I needed to "get the f**k out of his store", that he felt threatened and that I called his wife a wh*re. --which none of that is true. I will never support this store ever again and am posting this so everyone else sees that Trusty Chords and the owner Colin is berating, rude, unprofessional, and disrespectful. I asked him to pull up his store surveillance camera footage to show the true story as it went down, and thats when he told me to leave! Maybe the City of Edwardsville or Better Business Burea needs to be contacted (I will be sending this to them too) and step in before he does this to another customer or goes any further than he did with me. Especially seeing that he feels he can charge whatever he wants since the amount my credit card was charged doesn't match what my receipt shows! read more

Never buy anything from this store, Especially online. The guy lies about the condition of records and then when you get the record, he blames you for not buying extra insurance. This guy is a fraud. Dont waste your time at his store. I ask this guy for a simple 6 bucks off after showing him pics of the damage. He refused. I didn't want to ship the record back because he refused to pay return shipping!! The 6 dollars off was more than a fair offer. The post office didnt damaged the jacket, it was packed well. This guy claimed the record and jacket were MINT, and it was NOT. This guy is a scam and is using the pandemic as an excuse as to why he is struggling. If you would treat your customers better and put them first, maybe you wouldn't be doing so bad. He was a jerk flat out and shouldn't be working with the public. read more

The worst customer service of any record store I have been to. Sold a new album with receipt that was badly warped and told me it was my problem. Can't keep business hours. Opens late with a time listed like 12ish and closes early with locked doors. So if you come and noon nobody will be there. The owner has a buy something and leave I am better than you attitude. Ratings on the used records are over rated for condition. Pricing is higher than other area stores on this side of the river and across. Selection is poor. Mostly new repress albums that are overpriced. Always burning insents to choke you out. I suggest shopping somewhere else that your business is appreciated!
