They have a huge selection of video games and as a gamer, I love that. They also have a wide variety of stuff between movies, cds, anime, posters, figures, and whatever else you could be looking for. Now the negative aspect. What I do not like are their prices. I am thrifty, so when I am shopping used video game stores, one tends to get a general idea/feel for what things should be priced at. Slackers tends to price everything above Market Value. Whether they do it because it is a college town or because it is a bit of a nicer area... it seems to be working for them. I love swinging by when I visit my friends in the area, but I hardly ever purchase anything since I can find it for a lot cheaper where I live. Any who, they really do offer a large selection of everything. I love the fact that most of their SNES-era games have boxes on the shelves. Nostalgia kicks in looking at some old gaming boxes. The games don't come with the boxes, as they are store displays. But still cool to see! I will try and snap a few photos the next time I go and update this post with them. It's a great place to scratch almost any nerdy itch you have, but it does come with a premium price. If you are in the area and are looking for something a bit cheaper on the video game side of things., check out Grumpy Bob's Emporium a few miles away. If you need more of a geek fix (board games, figures, comics), you can pop over to Heroic Adventures. It is literally a 2 minute drive from Slackers.

Books have always been a happy escape for me. Now that I read my books on my iPad, I had started to forget how wonderful it feels to hold a real book in your hands. I think it's time to return to the beginning, head back in time and pick up a book to read; a real solid paper book. Sometimes change isn't always a good thing. This sweet little store reminded me of days gone by. When you walk in, the room on the left is for the little ones. Straight ahead is the desk where you checkout and to the right is for young teens or young at heart. In the back areas are adult books. A very nice selection of most genres. So put down that iPad and go buy yourself a book! A book that you can touch. However you like your books, take time to read. Lose yourself for awhile and let your imagination carry you along. (I had picked up the Laufey album, but the statement was definately aimed at my wife, sorry I'm too basic) it came across weird, judgy, and offputting, and soiled the experience. I understand that niche interests like records can sometimes facilitate pretentiousness, but dang, next time I want to pay an above average price for some girly pop bossa nova music I'll find another record store.

Heroic Adventures, just like Slackers, is a frequent stop for my friends and I when we are visiting friends in Edwardsville. Just like Slackers, the price of things here tends to be on the 'higher' side of things. But with higher prices come a lot of cool things... They have board games, card games, collectible/trading card games, comics, graphic novels, figures, and the list goes on and on. Almost anyone who has the smallest sliver of geekiness in them will find something here they want to buy. One of my friends always drools over they figure section. I always browse the board games, DBZ stuff and Magic: the Gathering sections. We typically spend 30 minutes looking around before we finally leave and one of us bought something. It is a great companion store to Slackers.. Whereas Slackers is heavy on games, this place is heavy on everything else.

You'll find here a mixture of new, still in original packaging stuff and open boxes that were returned to a store. There's everything from candy to clothes, kitchen items, appliances, rugs, etc. It's a bit like a Big Lots but with better prices. Sometimes you can come here and not find much but other times they have great stuff. I bought a really nice sheet set for my split king bed last year at a steep discount. The sheets are nice. They probably originally sold through Target or similar. They're worth a look before shopping bigger retailers.

I took my son and daughter up there to shop and the owner spent a lot of time time walking us through the store sections and showing us what was available. I browsed the Certified section of pre-owned Star Wars sets and left with some really well priced and desirable Clone Wars Jedi Star Fighter sets that were complete in box and very well priced. The entire staff was friendly and helpful and even helped me with a few trade-ins on some of my old sets. I will be back and I highly recommend you shop here for all your Lego needs.​

My most recent visit, I found several items from the catalog, in TGB and I'd rather buy local, then from a major catalog. This store is amazing, the staff is always eager to help. This led us to the nearby Ziena Boutique storefront. We went inside and explored what turned out to be an upscale women's clothing store that seems to specialize in trendy smart-casual styles. Ziena has jeans, blouses, dusters, necklaces, permanent jewelry, sparkly custom patches that can be placed on clothing or cosmetic bags, and more. I expected the prices to be high, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were reasonable. I bought a duster-style button-down shirt that looks great over short jeans and a tank, and it was only $45. I have already told several friends that they need to stop by this place. I'll be back!
