    Candy!

I love books a million, but then I love books and magazines. This store has just about everything! Great selection of books, magazines, gifts, candy and toys. I love the children's area. They have a nice little cafe, but I've never gotten anything there. They even have music and vinyl! Check out goes fast and when they ask if you want to try some magazines, I suggest saying no thank you. I don't know why they do that, but I don't want people calling me all the time! I enjoy going and just wandering around. I usually end up buying one of the Somerset magazines.

Today I came in the store to drink some coffee and get some reading in and the barista was as kind and helpful as it gets!

Review Visit: October 5th, 2013…read more Music. Movies. Games. Debt. Let me preface this by saying that I love what Slackers offers. They have a huge selection of video games and as a gamer, I love that. They also have a wide variety of stuff between movies, cds, anime, posters, figures, and whatever else you could be looking for. Now the negative aspect. What I do not like are their prices. I am thrifty, so when I am shopping used video game stores, one tends to get a general idea/feel for what things should be priced at. Slackers tends to price everything above Market Value. Whether they do it because it is a college town or because it is a bit of a nicer area... it seems to be working for them. I love swinging by when I visit my friends in the area, but I hardly ever purchase anything since I can find it for a lot cheaper where I live. Any who, they really do offer a large selection of everything. I love the fact that most of their SNES-era games have boxes on the shelves. Nostalgia kicks in looking at some old gaming boxes. The games don't come with the boxes, as they are store displays. But still cool to see! I will try and snap a few photos the next time I go and update this post with them. It's a great place to scratch almost any nerdy itch you have, but it does come with a premium price. If you are in the area and are looking for something a bit cheaper on the video game side of things., check out Grumpy Bob's Emporium a few miles away. If you need more of a geek fix (board games, figures, comics), you can pop over to Heroic Adventures. It is literally a 2 minute drive from Slackers.

Planet Overstock is a well organized cluttered store full of bargains…read more It reminded me of a low-end Big Lots. The best item I saw was Threshold Sheets, they were way cheaper then the prices you'd pay at Target. I already have way too many sets of sheets, so I didn't buy a new set, but I was tempted. With the tariffs being added to imported items and Christmas approaching fast, PO may be a popular place to shop this holiday. Especially if you have littles ones. They had a good variety of Paw Patrol and Barbie Dolls. plus much more. They also had a variety of countertop appliances. You can get a new air fryer for pennies on the dollar. However, the grocery items they had me passing them by, they kinda scared me. The store was well staffed and they offered assistance as I browsed through the store. If you are looking for a bargain as the prices soar at other stores, it may be worth your time, to check Planet Overstock out next time you are out shopping.

My family turned me on to this place and I'm a fan…read more Basically what they do is buy up returns and leftover stock from closing stores at a steep discount and then resell it. You'll find here a mixture of new, still in original packaging stuff and open boxes that were returned to a store. There's everything from candy to clothes, kitchen items, appliances, rugs, etc. It's a bit like a Big Lots but with better prices. Sometimes you can come here and not find much but other times they have great stuff. I bought a really nice sheet set for my split king bed last year at a steep discount. The sheets are nice. They probably originally sold through Target or similar. They're worth a look before shopping bigger retailers.

However, here at the new location in Glen Carbon, that is not the case. There's nothing nearby, but the positive is the layout and space of the store is so much better. Browsing the GB makes you feel like you are shopping, RH or Pottery Barn. Also, I am a big fan of Olive and Cocoa, a mail order catalog. My most recent visit, I found several items from the catalog, in TGB and I'd rather buy local, then from a major catalog. This store is amazing, the staff is always eager to help. If you shop like me and don't need help, they are cool with that, too. I can spend my money, without any help. If you're decorating your home, or if you need a gift for mom, your BFF and the school teacher, I'm telling you to come here and shop. I challenge anyone to come here and try to leave without buying something. You'll always find an item you gotta have.

Not sure how they can compete with other large home stores with similar offerings at much more affordable prices. Maybe some classes or something to get folks in could help? I think the designs and vignettes around the store are lovely, I just think the merch and such should be a bit more competitive and or novel.
