We'll, inside I went, after going around the restaurant looking for a parking spot close to the entrance. (Yes, too many folks are wanting the same closeness, which I have not sought on other visits.) The layout of the parking area does not allow for someone to park closer to the entrance way except about six to eight parking spots (all occupied) and that is it, with the remainder of them far on the other side close to the drive-in window where it is probably a bit dangerous to park there and then try and walk through the vehicles backed up for the drive-thru. Horrible planning. Go inside and you are faced with four (4) kiosks where you can input your order and pay with a credit card. The only advantage in doing this is that the last time I was here I found that you can have a small water for free. Yes, for zero cents and zero dollars. As I ordered a chicken sandwich previously which unfortunately had so much mayonnaise oozing out of it that it was getting all over my hands I decided to go for a hamburger. Guess what? Again, there was mayonnaise oozing out. It seems to me that this McDonald's loves slathering thick quantities of mayonnaise, which seems to be what other McDonald's in the chain do. Why waste all that mayo? Ycch! Thus the parking lot layout, the desire for us to use a kiosk and not a human, and the excess mayonnaise certainly is worthy of the loss of at least one star.

When we pulled up to the Johns Island location, we were told they weren't honoring it and would have to drive to James Island instead. We had our dogs in the car and simply asked if they could put a little whipped cream in a cup (nothing complicated) but they refused. For such a small, easy request, this was absurd. We ended up cancelling our order and leaving. Disappointing experience, especially when other places are happy to accommodate something so simple.

I was at this McDonald's when my life changed. I remember it so distinctly, it could've happened…read moreyesterday. We were on our way to Ocean Isle and I had to pee. I ignored it for a good 10 minutes, but eventually it became too much to go unnoticed. It felt like there was a rocket taking off in my bladder, and with every breath I took, it got stronger! So we stopped by the nearest toilet which happened to be at McDonald's. I burst through the doors and went straight into the bathroom, relieved. And as I was sitting there on the toilet, I noticed something rather peculiar. There was this song playing, it sounded familiar, but I had never heard it before. Then I realized!!! It was a jazz version of Every Breath You Take by The Police. I felt this strange connection to the music and it overpowered me. The noises of the instruments took me to this other world. A world of peace and beauty. A world of beautiful noises and immaculacy. A world of love and kindness. A world of comfort. A world where there are no flaws or worries, only jazz. I found the meaning of music and perfection that day. I understood everything about everything at that moment. I remember that a few tears escaped my eyes and rolled down my face, like silver wine down velvet. Still, my face was expressionless though it was filled with emotion and discoveries. I remained there, on the McDonald's toilet, as the song repeated itself 3 times. And every time the saxophone riff played, I was struck with awe and wonder. For 12 minutes I sat there. It was like I had met God himself in that McDonald's bathroom. I walked out of that bathroom as a different person. I walked right past the employee who asked: "Are you okay, baby? The brims of your eyes are all red and puffy. Can I get you anything?" I walked right past the man sitting near the door. I walked right out of that McDonald's. And tears continued to stream down my face as I walked across the parking lot to my mom's golden pathfinder. But I had already found my path, and this path that I had found was indeed golden. I didn't purchase anything from that McDonald's that day, but I did get something from there. I got all the answers I had ever been seeking. Thank you, McDonald's.

After multiple times, they still didn't get our order right. One out of 4 drinks was missing. We waited about 25 minutes for ONE DRINK! When I received my drink, the cold foam tasted like fish!!! The workers were rude and they were playing in the back while we all waited patiently.

Our flight from SFO to Charlotte to Wilmington arrived around 11:35PM, and the rental car closes at 12AM. Luckily, because of how small the airport is, the distance from one point to the next was less than a few minutes. After picking up our luggage and rental keys, it was a short walk out to the lot. Departure was seamless. We returned our rental car without any issues. The only feedback is to avoid using the address provided online for car rental return (1740 Airport Blvd). We had to follow signs for the rental return, which may be due to ongoing construction, so watch for signage. TSA was not a concern, as there was no wait for our 9AM. flight. Pretty small. 1 line for pre-check and 1 line for regular.

ILM is perhaps the most calming airport I've been in. If you have difficulty walking that may be a problem, but luckily it is a ramp (not stairs) so if you need a wheelchair you can use it. The check-in area is small, but efficient. All of the airline counters are right there once you walk in to the terminal, and to your left is TSA. TSA wait times at ILM are not a problem, just in case you are concerned because of what happened for 1 month. They have multiple food options such as Port City Java, Jimmy Johns, a market for snacks and drinks, and a great restaurant called "Riverwalk Bar & Grill." There are 9 gates in the terminal. Our flight to Atlanta was delayed, but luckily we could hang out in the atrium and listen to some live music! If you decide to fly out of ILM you will likely not have a problem. This is a great airport!
