Went into Terminal C with TSA and it was actually not too bad a process at Newark airport. Maybe it was the time I went but it was actually pretty smooth. There are actually a lot of restaurants and the terminal is super long. Overall you can find something to eat or drink if you want. Also, the place looks spotless and sort of new but I am not sure. read more

I'm a 76-year-old totally disabled person waiting in a scooter to get through TSA recheck. The agents were not rude but kept me 20 minutes and only after asking to see a supervisor did I get a routine of what you're not the only patient here but I clearly could've been gotten through without the line just continuing and handicap people waiting at their women. There were a number of male agents just standing around there was one working the line I cannot walk or stand, so that was out from me. I tried to explain that I had to take a bus for the next flight. Shame on United for scheduling such a narrow change of terminals to catch my next plane with an hour and a half time to do it no one cared or seem to care about any of that? It was all well. This is how we do it and we'll get around to you, which is obscene knowing you don't have a choice. They're too big for their haunches and compassion working Phil let one person through would not have held up the line dramatically, and that way everyone gets treated average of 16 minutes is seem to me to be an outright lie. This place is chaotic and the lines aren't marked that clearly. I would recommend most folks to get Precheck or Clear if you're coming here. Both of these will get you through security much faster than standard TSA. These are located on the 2nd level where as the standard security lines are at the bottom floor. The Precheck line is pretty long but it does move quickly. What you need to know if to have your boarding passes out, ID out, and to put everything (including carry on suitcase) in a tray for security. read more

They do shout alot but it realy is the fault of the airport because everything at EWR is so disorganized, I actually feel bad for the poor TSA agents, swept up into the darkness of the never ending nightmare that is EWR. How can TSA help it? This is an incompetant and disgusting airport with no care toward their customers. TSA tries, they do, but the negative energy of this toxic place tests the limits of even the most caring TSA agent. Pros: None Cons: - The international transfer experience at EWR was awful, never again. - You have to basically leave one terminal building and re-enter the airport through another building as a completely new passenger, which is not the case at other airports. - I should be able to go through the customs process, drop my bags, and head to my next airplane, but that's not that case at EWR. - After customs and immigration, you are basically led out to the terminal roadway with your checked bag. - You then have to figure out how and where to drop your bag for the connecting flight. - You then have to figure out how to get to then next terminal building either by train, bus, or walking. - You then have to go through the TSA checkpoint again, where they have a false seance of entitlement rather than customer service. - They placed me in the incorrect line and I was denied access. - Then they placed me in a second line. - My backpack was sorted into secondary screening, which is totally okay. - What's not okay is that the TSA agent had to stop the search process over one bag and wait for a supervisor to come clear that bag. - They couldn't simply place that bag in a secure location while waiting for a supervisor and continue screening other bags. - We waited for ten minutes, just to continue the screening process. - The entire connection took two hours, I missed my boarding time, couldn't use the restroom, and couldn't grab something to eat. I have TSA precheck and all was fine until the metal detector beeped, and I was told I was "randomly selected" to go through the full body scanner. Okay. Except the man kept yelling "female assist" to have a female go through the scan for me. The line started backing up because several other females were "randomly selected" to go through but still no female worker arrived. We waited about 10 minutes while others continued to go through the precheck line. By then my bag was sitting unattended at the very end of the security line, and I was worried about leaving it unattended for that long. I could see it slightly from where I was standing behind the body scanner, and I even saw a man pick my bag up on accident thinking it was his and then put it back down. Others behind me complained about the same issue, and the original attendant assisted he couldn't do anything about it and couldn't move from his post. I asked if he could have someone else grab it so it wasn't just sitting in the open for everyone going through. He ignored me. I understand the importance of security and am totally fine with going through a randomly selected body scanner, but when my wait is significantly delayed, it somewhat defeats the purpose of precheck. More importantly, when the safety of my valuables and belongings are at risk, I think procedures need to be changed. What would have happened if my bag was stolen then, and we were unable to find the person who had it and get it back? I'm not sure EWR would've done anything to compensate. Let's face it. An airport TSA checkpoint is never fun no matter where it is. But, at least Newark's Terminal C3 Checkpoint is trying to make it a bearable experience by having a "Pre Check" line that foregoes the shoe removal, laptop retrieval, and even lets you keep you belt on if not too heavily metallic. The selection system is not completely random, but relies on secondary security indicators to save those with a safe profile from taking up the time and space that everyone else still goes through. I think my Global Access designation played a part in this process, as I am allowed back into the USA by stepping up to a special kiosk and answering a few questions whenever I return to the country. Regardless, I believe in thanking the Universe for even small favors. Avoiding the indignities of security screenings in part is still well worth recognition and a quiet, "Thank you." read more

Worst experience with TSA and United ever. Long story short, I missed my flight because United and the TSA systems were not working as good as they should be. The TSA and United seriously screwed up and made me miss my flight. The first issue of the day was that I was randomly selected for extra security which was very confusing since I had recently gotten Global Entry status. But whatever, I think that may have been that I didn't update my Global Entry number on my reservation since I got my Global Entry card after I booked my trip. Also, I started my day by flying out of Lisbon, so maybe it was entirely an issue w/ Portugal customs... who knows. Ok, so I get to EWR and I go through customs and all the Global Entry lines no problem, all of those systems worked perfectly well. But then I had to recheck my bag and go back through security. I tried like 3 times to enter my Global Entry number onto my reservation and it was showing up on United's computer, but it didn't end up confirming my identity or whatever, so I couldn't even go into the TSA Pre line. No big deal, I thought, so I sucked it up and went through the regular security line and thought I had gotten through and was ready to board. I had a 3 hour layover, so I had plenty of time to kill before my flight started boarding. But then, I go up to enter the flight and I am denied boarding after using my United App's boarding pass on my phone. The people at the gate call TSA and their supervisors and inform me that I have to wait for TSA to do an extra screening on me. Fine, whatevs, I had had an extra screening earlier in the day at Lisbon right at the gate, so I thought it wasn't a big deal. I am told to wait while everyone else boards. Finally, with about 25 minutes until my flight is supposed to depart, a TSA agent strolls on up and says that I need to come with him back to the checkpoint to get rescreened. I tell him that my flight leaves really soon, but he has ZERO sense of urgency and walks as slow as my 90 year old grandma (ok not really but given the situation, it was excruciatingly slow) all the way back to the screening area. If I had ran back to the screening area myself instead of waiting for the slowpoke TSA, I might've been able to make the flight. So, when I get back to the checkpoint, time is ticking with 18 minutes to go. The TSA was doing extra screening on other people and by the time I start my screening I get a notification that my flight has taken off. In my extra screening, they do a full pat down and search all of my bags and also decide to through away my toothpaste which had made it through every single other security checkpoint on my trip including an earlier one at EWR that day. I complain to the TSA supervisor, but she plays the blame game and points to my boarding pass (one of like 4 that I had printed trying to do the right thing by entering my Global Entry number) and says it doesn't have a special marking on it, so that's why I had to do the extra screening after yet another boarding pass was printed at the gate which is apparently an issue with United's ticket printer and not the TSA. Either way, the systems they're using are not working for my circumstance and caused me to miss my flight. I paid money for the Global Entry enrollment yet was not only not given TSA Pre status, but received the highest security screening possible. This stuff should just work, but it definitely didn't that day. read more

At 5:00 am this group is poorly run, disorganized chaos. Travelers are randomly selected to go through magnetometer. Ok But problem, no one is running magnetometer. So, people randomly selected pile up. And up. And up. Eventually they page another assistant. Eventually they do this 5 times. No one comes. We are all just waiting for over 20 minutes to get our special examination. Like Waiting for Godot. It doesn't happen. Then the randomly selected get yelled at by other TSA folks, who are also angry with each other, because we are lined up to go through the magnetometer. read more

They constantly have the premier access entrance closed down and funnel everyone into a single economy line. Agents are always rude. The last time I went through there was a big pile of dog shit from the police K-9s they subject you to now. No cones around the shit or nothing and it was in the lane. The only sort of management was one of the line agents lazily point it out - much too late for people to notice. I watched as seven people turned as the woman lazily mumbled "watch the droppings..." because she said it so low people would turn around to ask her to repeat, and turn and step right into the dogshit. It was awful to watch. I was in line for a full 25 mins because of their "shitty" security and line management and no one came to clean the dog droppings up and not one employee seemed to care. I wouldnt be surprised if the poop sat there for the next three hours. Fuck this airport. read more

Be aware if you bring your NYC ID - apparently it's still not approved in the policies (outdated, no surprise there) and it took 15 minutes for supervisor to come. In the meantime I tried to wait patiently but two other TSA came up and just started badgering me why I don't have another picture ID. NYC ID is a govt issues identification and should be fine but the way it was handled was rather inconsiderate and rude. Once the supervisor came, she was a sweet heart and helpful. But the lady who was helping continued with her attitude (last name Saja) and told me I should get a NY drivers license next time. I was upset at that point and tried to ignore her. Once the supervisor approved and let me in, the other lady Saja came back and continued commenting with her negative comments and it wasn't until her guy co worker pulled her away and told her to stop it. I was harassed continuously and felt like a second class citizen going through this process. I guess I was the guinea pig for testing this ID but I hope it becomes a learning or education for them that they should be more considerate when handling these sensitive and persona matters. I also called TSA and spoke with a representative about my experience and how it's approved ID needs to be updated so this doesn't happen to others. read more

The TSA airport in terminal 3 was absolutely amazing. The TSA officers we're joking with me the whole entire time I was being screened. After I had gone through TSA. One of the officers radioed and employee from the airport to come to the checkpoint and escort me directly to my gate. The staff here went absolutely above and beyond. I did feel kind of bad because my gate was literally 100 feet away from the TSA checkpoint. But it was great I had my own little waiting room area the seats were leather it was very very nice. Not what I expected for flying commercial. read more

I fly out of Newark two or three times a month. For at least a year, I have gone through TSA Precheck at checkpoint C3. On 23 Jan 2017, at about noon, I approached C3 and saw a TSA Precheck sign. So I presented my boarding pass to the male attendant. He shrugged his shoulders and motioned me through. It was not until I was nearly through the line that I found out C3 no longer offers TSA Precheck. Why was there a sign? But more importantly, why did the attendant not tell me I was heading into a standard line, when it was clear I thought it was still a Precheck line? read more

Every time I come through here the staff are more frustrated than the passengers that need to wait in a 45 minute plus line. In the past 2 weeks I've experienced staff yelling at customers who didn't speak English (because raising your voice apparently helps with translation?) there have only been 2 pro machine and X-ray machines open each time I've gone through and multiple groups of staff chatting and laughing with one another. Advice- go early and plan to run to the gate. Coming 2 hours early for domestic flights is no longer accurate timing. read more

My son-in-law forgot his wallet with all his ID & instead of us having to race back home in freezing rain and probably miss our flight, TSA just gave him a thorough check out and let him through. My son and I stood in the PreCheck line for 1 hour and 15 minutes at United Terminal C yesterday afternoon around 2PM. The line was so long that we - and others - couldn't believe this was the expedited security line. Fortunately we had arrived with time to spare before boarding but several co-travelers were very concerned about missing their flights. There was not enough staff around to answer questions or to look out for people on a tight schedule. What is the point of Pre-Check if you're not getting through any faster than the regular security lines? read more

I completely understand that safety trumps customerexperience - but I truly believe that the TSA employees at this checkpoint are making their own jobs more difficult by using an aggressive approach. Repeating the same instructions (which was in direct conflict with the prior officer's instruction in majority of interactions today) in a louder and angrier tone does not make it any clearer. I watched a particular officer yell at a child who had just been told to go to his line by another TSA. The girls eyes welled with tears as she tried to explain. She backed away from him in fear. The officer yelled 'I don't care what you heard, get in a line NOW!' The girl then began to cry and he asked her age. 11 years old. Not right. Kindness matters, people. TSO Stone from EWR united precheck was generally rude, dismissive and demanding towards passengers. He sat at the kiosk while playing with his phone and addressing passengers in his inappropriate and unprofessional tone. I hope this is not what TSA is teaching their employees or condoning it by not correcting or reprimanding them. Overall very unprofessional and a poor reflection of the TSA. He is yet another representation of why the TSA is a failure in the public eye. TSO Stone fails to respect the people the TSA "professes" to protect. You should be removed and never allowed to work with people again. It's clear that TSO Stone like, many others, believe that the uniform gives him power that can be use to be lazy and rude to others.
