I've recently flown into Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) in Jackson,…read moreMississippi [100 International Dr] on Wednesday, 06/03/26. Upon arrival, I was surprised by how small and cozy the airport was. It was extremely easy to navigate through. The baggage claim area + car rental counters were readily available downstairs and the rental center was located directly across the street. The walking distance was relatively short, which I highly appreciated. This airport is the hub for airlines such as American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines. I traveled here using United Airlines via the commuter plane, which was actually the smallest airplane I've been on - "CommuteAir." I returned to this airport to fly home to California on Tuesday, 06/09/26. I had such a positive experience with the TSA line as it took under 5 minutes to get through. I must say it was the shortest TSA line that I've ever encountered in life so far, which was beyond convenient. The airport dining & shops included Samuel Adams / Riverbanks Bar & Grill, Dunkin', Pearl River Marketplace and Hudson. I had visited Hudson on 06/09/26, which was a convenience store filled with snacks, travel essentials, apparel, and so much more. I grabbed coffee and an Evian water bottle. The aesthetic of the airport was inviting. The restrooms were well-maintained and clean. All of the airport staff members were kind. Overall, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport - JAN is such a lovely airport. Exploring around Mississippi by being surrounded by hospitable people and having access to delicious food were the highlights of the trip. I would be more than happy to visit Mississippi at some point again in the future.

Expectations of a small airport just have to be lower than a big international hub. Flying into…read moreJackson is an experience. 1 because you're most likely flying on a teeny tiny plane, but 2 because the amenities themselves are bare and minimal. While it was easy to get in and out of what was their security line, the challenge is that once inside, there really aren't any food options so plan ahead. Another challenge leaving is that you'll have to wait a long time for an uber. There weren't many other people waiting but it did take about 15 minutes for a car to be available. Just be prepared to move a little more slowly here.

I was told I would be charged for anything other than a minivan because my reservation for a full size is not available. When I pointed out this seemed unreasonable given the number of non Emerald options available, I was told they were all reserved. Really? The type of car I reserved is not available but other reservations for vehicle types are set in stone? Moreover, this is a airport that closes at 6p and consists of 7 gates!!!! C'mon man!! You are seeking profit (upgrade charges) over return renters. A customer service professional named Aramis represented himself to be the manager. When the customer rep on the phone asked me to ask him more specific questions about availibility, he finally stated he was not a manager. The representative asked him about alternative options and asked that he ask the manager. This guy said the manager who I believe is named Donovan could not be reached. As he put it, the manager's phone was turned off. The thought of a location with no accessibility to a manager also speaks volumes. The phone representative tried calling the location's front desk and informed me that no one was answering the line. This place sells its Emerald Executive Elite Program as win win for frequent travelers. You are guaranteed a vehicle if you reserve within 24 hours. There were at least 10 other vehicles on the lot but the minivans were my only option on what is supposed to be a preferred aisle. There were about 25 returned vehicles that reportedly could not be cleaned until the next day. These vehicles were parked in the vehicle return lane. When I offered to take one that was not cleaned, I was told the keys were all locked up until the next day. 90 minutes of back and forth and a call to the toll free number, I get a different option after being told no by Cassandra, the gate agent and Aramis. Several times throughout this ordeal the gate agent closed herself off in the warmth of her booth. The first alternate option did not work because the check engine light was on. The next vehicle that I accepted under duress had only 3/8 of gas. After pulling off, the vehicle began to make a loud rattling sound. So, I called roadside assistance and was told to have it towed. This place begins with a g and ends with an o. Rent someplace else.

I had flown into Jackson for an unexpected funeral and HAD to be in attendance just 12 hours after landing. I still had an hour's worth of driving ahead of me, as well. Needless to say, I was LIVID that Dollar had not kept their commitment to hold my car for 8 hours following the delay caused by the airlines. Hell, they didn't even remain in the building nor pass off the reservation to any other companies that participate in the rental business alongside them at JAN airport. Once I calmed down enough and regained my composure, I approached the Avis desk. I had no other option. Haji, the associate at the desk, was a miracle worker! He kept complete composure, remained calm, explained everything I needed to know about their contracts and saved the evening! He quickly assigned me an SUV and had me on my way in less than 15 minutes. Once I got to the car & opened the door to place my suitcase inside, I was met with the most pungent smell of marijuana that I think I've EVER smelled. It literally smacked me in the face when I opened the trunk lid and both front doors, despite the $450 warning sticker on the windows. Clearly, whomever checks the cars back in doesn't meticulously look over/through the cars when receiving them back. (I personally verified this myself when returning to the airport on my way home. The attendant scanned a barcode on the window and told me to place the keys on the dashboard. He never got inside the car nor walked around the outside of it, either. ) Despite the over-whelming smell, I was able to attend the funeral, and safely get to and from the airport. Essentially, that IS all I NEEDED! So, once again, a HUGE shoutout to Haji at the Jackson-Evers airport in MS! Thank you for your efforts and concern! You deserve a raise after THAT fiasco!
