Too bad you cannot give zero stars. This has been the worse experience ever. I entered the Emerald Aisle which consisted of only minivans. I was told I would be charged for anything other than a minivan because my reservation for a full size is not available. When I pointed out this seemed unreasonable given the number of non Emerald options available, I was told they were all reserved. Really? The type of car I reserved is not available but other reservations for vehicle types are set in stone? Moreover, this is a airport that closes at 6p and consists of 7 gates!!!! C'mon man!! You are seeking profit (upgrade charges) over return renters. A customer service professional named Aramis represented himself to be the manager. When the customer rep on the phone asked me to ask him more specific questions about availibility, he finally stated he was not a manager. The representative asked him about alternative options and asked that he ask the manager. This guy said the manager who I believe is named Donovan could not be reached. As he put it, the manager's phone was turned off. The thought of a location with no accessibility to a manager also speaks volumes. The phone representative tried calling the location's front desk and informed me that no one was answering the line. This place sells its Emerald Executive Elite Program as win win for frequent travelers. You are guaranteed a vehicle if you reserve within 24 hours. There were at least 10 other vehicles on the lot but the minivans were my only option on what is supposed to be a preferred aisle. There were about 25 returned vehicles that reportedly could not be cleaned until the next day. These vehicles were parked in the vehicle return lane. When I offered to take one that was not cleaned, I was told the keys were all locked up until the next day. 90 minutes of back and forth and a call to the toll free number, I get a different option after being told no by Cassandra, the gate agent and Aramis. Several times throughout this ordeal the gate agent closed herself off in the warmth of her booth. The first alternate option did not work because the check engine light was on. The next vehicle that I accepted under duress had only 3/8 of gas. After pulling off, the vehicle began to make a loud rattling sound. So, I called roadside assistance and was told to have it towed. National Car Rental - The infamous booth - Car Rental Near Me - Jackson, Mississippi

On Sunday morning, March 13th I dropped my car off at the airport in Jackson, MS. I proceeded to the airport terminal and received a text message informing me that my flight had been cancelled. In addition to the text message, I also received the receipt from National Car Rental. The receipt had an additional 250.00 charge on it so, I proceeded back to the parking lot to ask the Clerk in the booth about the additional charges. The Clerk told me the charges derived as a result of her smelling smoke in the car. I informed the Clerk that the car smelled like smoke when I picked it up. Although, the car was kind of new it still had 8,700 miles on it when I picked it up. Myself being stressed, and completely surprised informed the clerk that I had no idea what she was talking about. I went on to advised her that I rented the car for two days to attend my nephews funeral and that I don't smoke nor did I allow anyone else to smoke in the car. I asked the Clerk to remove the charge - she said no and insisted that she had smelled smoke in the vehicle would refused to remove the additional charge. The conversation got a little heated and the clerk responded by calling the Airport Police. Fast forward to the present. I have yet to get my 250.00 refunded. It is my opinion that the clerk called the police to harass me or threated my life due to one of the officers being extremely irrational and clearly intended to escalate the situation. I believe the escalation tactics were totally unnecessary. As a 57 year old retired Army veteran, Homeland Security Employee, National Executive Elite already in distress because of the death of my nephew and flight cancellations was appalled by the mistreatment at the Jackson, MS airport. I have never had these types of issues after renting a car. read more

Looks like changes are happening here! Ok I felt the need to update my review after my last several experiences here being negative. I just tried renting a car here again yesterday and walked to the national lot and things for the most part have changed for the good. -The only thing that seems to have not been much different is the car selection in Executive. I came out and found 3 cars and several vans etc to choose from. This isn't really a complaint as I did get a nice Charger for a car and it was very nice. I did notice at 11am when I returned the car they had plenty at that time, so maybe they just don't have their timing right on the inventory vs. flights coming in. I don't know, but I was happy with what I found. + the staff was present and very helpful and they definitely have stepped up their game in this regard. + When I returned my car there was someone there to check it in promptly and like normal National fashion. Everything went smoothly there. All in all I see they have turned it around from my visit this trip and a lot has changed. In 6 more months when I come back I'll check again and I hope everything will still be good here. I don't know how they did it but it's like a regular National car location with everything that I would expect. Nice job guys, and keep it up! read more

As an Executive Elite member, I rent from this National location at least once per month. For the most part, customer service and car availability are good. There have been some occasions where vehicle supply is limited, but even then the wait time and customer service have been good. Love the fact that this week management was out to welcome and recognize Elite members and offered me a free upgrade to a nice BMW. read more

I arrived on a Monday evening, no cars were available although had reservation. The wash was broken and when I did get a car, it had not benn wash just sprayed off with water, still on car. The inside had not been vacuumed nor the windows cleaned. I could understand the wash being broken, but I couldv'e handled the dirty outside but not the inside. Especially the windows!! read more

I had the worst experience dropping off a car with Dennis. This guy is the laziest guy I have experienced in a professional environment. Not helpful at all. As an Executive Elite member, I cannot say anything positive about this location. I asked for a manager and the counter guy said one is not available and the best way was to e-mail. If I could give zero stars I would for the Jackson MS Airport location. I had a reservation for a car from National. Imagine my surprise when they told me they didn't have a car for me. They also did not have a plan to find a car for me. They did eventually take my phone number with a promise to call in the morning to resolve this. It is now 11am and no call. I did spend over an hour on hold this morning trying to get hold of them with no luck. If they don't have any cars, why are they too busy to take my call? I did call in a complaint with the Customer Service line, but I doubt seriously that it will help. I should've gone with Avis, Budget, Hertz, Enterprise, etcetera. Anybody could've done a better job than this. read more

The People are nice but DO NOT make a reservation here . When I got in on a late flight I was told that there were no cars available despite having a reservation. I had to take a can to my hotel for the night, miss my early morning meeting, to come back to the airport via cab to secure my reservation from the night before. The entire purpose of me coming in the night before was because I needed to make it to a meeting this morning. Due to National not maintaining my reservation I couldnt. I tried to call this morning to be sure they had cars, before I cabbed it back to the airport, and no one answered the phone inleft 2 messages and called about 4 times. The ladies at the customer service desk were nice and helpful, but James their manager.... the verdict is still out on him. He was nice and respectful, but somehow trying to explain to me the reason my reservation was given away due to a golf tournament and an influx of people, was #1 priority on his list. Does that really matter, when I had a reservation? ?? Im going to file that comment in the "I dont care " file right under the subcategory "What the **** does that have to do with me" file!!! My sole purpose in using National is to avoid a wait, as I am Emerald club. First, no cars in the Emerald aisle so I have to track down someone to find options. I was going somewhere I wasn't familiar with and had reserved a GPS device. They didn't have one available but were able to secure one from a neighboring agency. They really did try to go out of their way to keep me happy, but all of this took time, which was something I was short on that particular day. read more

Very friendly and I was able to upgrade to a nice car! The best thing about my experience was the fact that I had forgotten my cell phone in the car after returning to the airport. I realized after going through security so I had to go back to the rental car area to see if they could assist me. The employees were very helpful and were able to find my phone. Kudos! read more

I flew into the Airport at 1:30 am expecting National to be closed. I was sure I'd have to try and get a taxi or whatever to my hotel making a very long frustrating day even longer. To my surprise and delight the guys were there working very late to ensure we had our cars! The man assured me that there will always be someone waiting for the last flight! I rent from this location about every other week. Most the time there's always a sense of urgency and I'm in and out very quick. I do usually get a upgrade because their car selection seems to be minimal. Overall the service is very friendly and efficient. read more

The People are very nice and helpful, the cars are clean and in good condition. But, For six months I have been flying in to this airport, on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday, most of the time every two weeks instead of weekly, and only once or twice have I had any selection at all. Sometimes the available CAR was very nice and once I was fourth in line and waited while they brought up one at a time. No matter that the advertising says that you get to select your vehicle, I do not find that a choice between a white van, a red van and a white pickup is much more of a choice, than waiting in line and taking pot-luck as to what you would get. A single driver pushing that kind of sheet metal around seems to me to be pretty ridiculous. Other times I have had leave the Executive area and go to the regular aisle to find something that I could drive. When there is a vehicle available, processing out is quick and easy and I am even getting to know a couple of the people who are there regularly. read more

Came in from an 11:00pm flight and the counter was closed. I was disappointed because I saw the other rental counters all open and I was forced to take a taxi and then come back in the morning. The service was good in the morning, but you need to keep the counter open for all flights. read more

I typically LOVE National, however, the JAN National is the one exception. As an Executive status member, I am consistently disappointed with the grotesquely underwhelming selection. Many automobiles that at every other location are Executive or even simply Emerald level are unavailable except at an additional premium. Often, the selection is so sparse I wonder if this is truly a National Car Rental. Service is... slow. I guess not really a National issue as the same kiosk services multiple vendors. read more

I choose National over all other car rentals because of the ease in getting into a car and getting out of the airport. I am an Emerald Club member. My recent problem was based on a dropoff rental that was not reflected on my original reservation. While the agent in Gulfport handled it professionally and resolved the issue, the customer service reps on the phone were useless. Three different reps said that I had to call the Jackson airport to resolve my issue for which no one ever answered there, and I was anxious about what to do to make sure that the issue was resolved. I dropped off the car at Gulfport as I had planned with no fanfare, so my worrying overnight had been in vain, but customer service should have known what the agent the airport knew and advised accordingly. read more

No cars were available when arriving at lot. Customers had to line up to take the next returning car. Obviously the cars had not been cleaned prior to being rented. Still waiting on a credit on my credit card for an inappropriate damage charge made on my last visit. I've received letters the credit is on it's way but has now been months. Make sure you verify all dings, dents, scrapes of the smallest size as this location looks for ways to charge for anything. read more

Worst service ever. When I first arrived, cars were not available. After cars became available I went to the car and when I went to check it out, I was given a really bad attitude from the check in person. She told me that I had to get in line. I have executive elite status and this was the way I was treated. Then as I was driving the car that I had, there were transmission issues, they were quick I'm getting me another which is why they received 2 stars from me, but the car that National delivered smelled awful. The car was dirty had chicken bones in it. Now I usually would return the car but I only had one day left so I took it. When I returned the car and said to National that I wanted to pay with my card, I was denied and then was told I had to use the card on file that it was this branches policy. Not a huge fan of National right now, not happy on how they treat their clients. Unsure if I would even continue with them. I was told by other that I can transfer my status to another rental company. Hopefully I hear from them. read more

All of them were big trucks with the exception of a minivan. i choose the minivan because there were no regular sized cars. No amount of Emerald Club status will make cars appear here. Every single time I fly in to JAN regardless of day or time, there are never any cars in the lot. Always at least a 20 minute wait. No rhyme or reason how they assign cars either. Last time I waited two people were given cars that showed up after me. I asked the staff, and the only response I got was "I don't know what." I don't like renting outside my loyalty programs, but this operation is making me rethink that. read more

Despite the fact that I had a reservation, when I arrived I and about 5 other customers had to wait for nearly an hour to get a vehicle. They did not have a single car in the lot. Was there on business and sharing the car with a colleague. We were directed to the garage to "Choose any car." Only there weren't any cars, not any and ten people in line ahead of us. It was 105 degree heat index, no place to sit and it took 40 minutes for them to produce a car for us. The car was still wet on the outside from being washed. The seats were filthy. We drove to our meeting. Two days later, we noticed a tire was flat. They sent AAA out to change the tire, putting on the spare and leaving the trunk completely filled by the flat tire. Had we had more people traveling with us we would not have had any room for luggage to get back to the airport. When we returned to the airport after seven days, we were informed that we would be charged to replace the flat tire. One of the worst customer service experiences I have had from a rental car company. read more

Worst car rental experience ever. Forget "Emerald Aisle" or speedy service. Located 25 minutes from the airport and with four busses sitting here they said the shuttle won't run for 10 minutes! No one here but me and when I complain they tell me I should have arrived earlier! Will not use National again. read more

I'm an emerald Aisle guy but when I got to the garage there were no cars to hop into. I walked over to the Alamo check out hut the guy said I could take a Charger or a Dodge 300 the only cars left in the lot or wait 20 minutes. I took the Dodge. They need more cars in Jackson. read more

I am an Executive Elite National member. I frequently rent cars from the Jackson, MS airport. Although the staff has recently undergone many changes, they are always very nice and as helpful as possible. The problem is if I don't arrive by Monday at noon, there are almost zero cars to rent. Many times, I have to rent a car a day or two earlier than I actually need it just to ensure that I get a car. The selection of Executive level cars has gone down over the last 6 months. Overall, I do not believe that this location keeps enough cars on hand to meet demand. read more

I am very happy with my rentals from National located at the Jackson Int'l Airport. The price is always very reasonable and the vehicles are like new. I always book online and usually at least a couple weeks in advance. I like that I can just walk to the car selection and choose the vehicle I want as long as I rent a standard size. I can do this because I am an Emerald Club member and they have the Emerald Club aisle. No going inside and no waiting in line...Yes indeed. The ladies in the booth outside have always been so helpful and friendly if I have a question or concern. I also like the National app on my cell. It reminds when the car is due back or ask if you need an additional day. To return is quick and simple. I signed up for online receipts so all I have to do is pull up in the parking bay, wave to the attendant and be on my merry way. How hard is that? read more

I had an awesome experience at the JAN national rental car emerald aisle. They were so helpful in assisting me with my vehicle and getting me on my way. The lady at the check out booth even went the extra mile by providing me local radio station for my favorite genre of music and making great recommendations for restaurants in the area. In general, National is very good. However, at JAN there are never any cars to choose from and as an executive level member, this really bothers me. Part of the point in dealing with National is being able to skip the lines and choose what I want. I have one other beef with National. It seems like there are many times that there are no license plates on the cars or the temp tag expires in the middle of the rental. I have not had a problem yet but hate the stress in thinking I will be pulled over and/or ticketed. read more

As an Emerald Elite member I enjoy using National as locations typically have a good selection. I arrived about 6:30 on a Monday evening only to find that there was not a single car available. I waited about 10 minutes for a car to arrive. What I learned is there were two guys running to get the cars...one was driving a vehicle to drop the other guy off. Then they would drop off a car, the guy would hop back in and get the next car. After I get in my car, I notice that the Jeep Wrangler they were using to shuttle back and forth in was stopped at the exit gate chatting it up with the young lady working that evening. I sat there about 5 minutes waiting for them to finish their chat. It's also worth noting that 3 other people were waiting on these jokers to bring cars up. Long story short...worst customer service ever from a rental car agency that I have experienced in my last 20+ years of business travel. read more
