What can I say that Beverly T. hasn't already said? First of all, you'll be surprised at the location. Make sure you have your GPS ready. You drive through a beautiful neighborhood full of perfect houses with impeccably manicured lawns. Then you come to a street made up of businesses that look like they're houses. It's pretty neat. Ms. T renovated her house so that the entire downstairs area is the kitchen/studio where the classes are held and she lives upstairs. The decor is modern, clean, yet homey at the same time. I loved the vibe. Our group of 6 came here for my early birthday celebration because we found a great deal on Groupon (don't know what that is? I suggest you google it, stat!). Our groupon was for $39, but each class is usually $69. Miss T (the owner) comes up with her own menus depending on the season so that you can work with locally grown, fresh ingredients (let's support small farmers). Look on their website for the schedule and what's on the menu for a particular class. When we came, we got to make: Stuffed Artichokes, Risotto Primavera with Shaved Parmesan, Apricot Glazed Pork Chops and Vanilla Infused Panna Cotta with Balsamic Strawberries. After you make your dishes, you get to eat your delicious creations! Everything was sooo delicious and easy to make. Miss T brings on different chefs to help her out with her classes. We got a bonafied French chef who had amazing knife skills. Seriously, who knew there was a "right" way to cut vegetables. We all learned so much in the 3 hours (6-9pm) that we spent here even though most of us cook on our own on a regular basis. I loved that she encouraged us to taste everything and adjust ingredients to our tastes. She said all recipes can and should be modified because everyone has a different preference for how salty or sweet they'd like things. She really allowed us to make each dish our own. General Info: This place is a great place for the culinary inept people like me. All ingredients are prepped and measured so you don't have to deal with slicing/dicing or measuring amounts. It's pretty much idiot proof and her setup guarantees that you will be making some pretty delicious food. The owner/executive Chef T is a no nonsense lady but certainly knows her stuff! I came here today for a work team building event and had a great time. There were about 14 of us so I'm sure it was a larger group than her normal class. We prepared many of the dishes with her expertise and guidance. The assistant (I didn't get her name) was extremely helpful as well. Chef T does speak quickly and does not repeat instructions so you better listen up! She does help you throughout the process so don't sweat it though. The best part is the very end when Chef T and her staff plate the food and serve you like King and Queens! I would have to say they do all the hard work in making what we made look so delectable. 5-star experience for a team building cooking and dinner experience! This isn't exactly a class to learn cooking techniques, interesting food facts or complex recipes. It's definitely good for easy cooking tasks as a group. I came with my company team for a team building activity at it was so much fun! First, the kitchen itself is spacious, beautiful and very comfortable. Our French Chef Dominique made the experience more fun as well with his accent and "dictatorship" personality. He was very attentive but would not necessarily explain things. Rather, he'd tell you to do things and had this funny list of rules that basically said the Chef was always right. Our team of 16 was split into groups of four and given a couple of trays with all the ingredients already measured and cut up to prepare. We made: *Citrus and arugula salad with a nice homemade dressing *Eggplant timbale: ground beef with vegetables and pasta wrapped by eggplant *Arancini with marinara sauce *Handmade fettuccine pasta with grilled chicken *Lemon ricotta cheese tart A very hearty dinner with good portions. Everything tasted pretty good too except the chicken was a bit overcooked and the arancini were not as crispy. I liked that that the groups were small enough that you get to participate in all activities and each group made the same thing. There was no missing out on something because you were not part of a specific team. Then we sat down and were served our meal with wine. This morning we took a friend to the Harvest Brunch cooking class as part of our birthday celebration for her! I was impressed as to how small and intimate the class was, how friendly the staff was, and how much time we had to sit down, chat, and really enjoy the brunch. The food was really good too. The class only had about 10 or so people. We had two cooking stations, and we were divided into our own groups. Our brunch consisted of several courses. All of the ingredients had been prepared ahead of time, so we had not need to chop of measure. We were given recipes, but our attention was on the instructors. I was tired when I arrived, but they kept us busy and I was immersed in the cooking process. There was plenty of time for photo ops and iced tea was provided to drink while we cooked. At the end of the class, we had almost an hour to sit, be served and enjoy the food. We all sat around a table. If you want, bring a bottle of wine or champagne. We didn't know, but luckily there is a small tasting room across the street where I grabbed a bottle. The dishes seem like something I can easily recreate at home. There is not a ton of technique in this class, but more of learning new recipes, some technique and a bit of a fun party atmosphere. We basically donated $130. I purchased a voucher during Christmas 2019 to cover a class for two ($130 value) and like others have mentioned it was nearly impossible to find a class that fit our schedule and interest. When COVID hit in March 2020, they shut down operations for a while which is understandable. After a few weeks we were excited to discover they were offering virtual classes (at a fraction of the cost) but had to supply our own groceries! It would be understandable had I purchased the virtual classes and not the in-person, but paying $130 AND having to buy my own groceries is absurd. Now fully opened, we reached out and were told we can still use the voucher BUT have to pay the difference because they increased their prices! WTF!? They declined the request to honor the original voucher for two and defended their reasoning by saying "they should actually be charging MORE and they were taking a hit". Ridiculous. Anyone want to buy a voucher for two AND pay the difference? I'm sure I won't be using it... read more

Classes fill up fast, and their cancellation policy is very strict. You have to give a one week cancellation notice, otherwise they charge you an extra $25 fee if they can't fill your spot. My boyfriend became very ill 3 days before our class, and when I called to try to switch to another day there was no customer service - just an annoyed person who explained their cancellation policy with a condescending tone because I just made their day that more difficult. I was so upset I decided it was useless to get their help, and just find someone else to go with me. I attended Sushi 101 with Chef T leading our class of 10 people. The classroom is a lot smaller than I imagined, and it can be a little hard moving around. The beginning of class started well, but what was organized instruction turned into a somewhat frenzy. There was a lot of running around by the staff. Chef T is very knowledgeable in the basics of sushi, and had a lot of good advice. But when it came to giving advice on technique, she wasn't very patient. It could have been because she was trying to yell over everyone's talking to give instructions; either way I didn't like the feeling of my impatient mother teaching me. All our ingredients were prepared for us - measured, sliced, etc. All we had to do was the fun part - cook! We learned how to make mixed tempura, california roll, spicy tuna hand roll, and baked salmon and scallop sushi roll. Throughout class we were treated to endless sake. It was nice to meet new people, drinking & cooking. The food was surprisingly good. I LOVE sushi, and I never thought basic sushi like a california roll or a spicy tuna hand roll could be so delicious. It really is true that food you create yourself tastes the best. It's also nice that they email you the recipes from the class menu. I enjoyed meeting new people whilst eating really good food, but the whole experience is overshadowed by the customer service and disorganized class. read more

My sister had a private cooking class party here for her birthday and for the price, it was so so so worth it. We had the entire place to ourselves, which was really nice. The place is so cute and very home-y inside. Chef T was in total chef mode. Making sure we were actually learning how to do certain things and why we do them. They actually do the cooking for us to make sure everything is properly done, but during that time we were sitting at the big farm style table laughing and having a great time. I high-key recommend you to take a class with Chef T at TSpoons whether it's your daughters 16th birthday, date night for you and your hunny, or a girls (or guys) night out. A group of ladies and I came for a bachelorette party and were joined by a couple on date night and some friends. PRICE: Class price varies depending on what the theme is for the night, if it seafood or some higher end protein, you can expect to pay more. Prices can range from $69-130. Ours was $69/person THEMES: Some nights are for private parties but for the open nights, there are often "themes" like date night, kids night, seafood night, to name a few. Our theme was Restaurant Favorites with a twist. COOKING: Expect the night to take almost exactly 3 hours. You're stationed off into one of 4 stations and you're given aprons and a small packet of recipes. Everything comes already prepped and measured out by the assistant chefs. Chef T will guide you and the assistant chefs (Stephanie and someone else) will help you and make sure you're doing everything correctly. She will also explain why you're cooking in a certain way. She'll make the most out of your time, so you'll be cooking out of order: starting the yeast first to give it time to rise, then going to the mashed potatoes, then to the chicken, and so on. DINNER: It's a large family style table with an extremely cozy set-up. The assistant chefs plated your food and serve your food to your table and oh my the food was absolutely delicious! I never considered myself a great chef and was surprised that I cooked this meal! Myself! Butternut squash + wild mushroom stew: the stew was delicious! Rosemary rolls: mmh soo good. The bread broke off perfectly Chicken au poivure in brandy sauce with crispy onion shoestrings on grainy Dijon mash: this was the juiciest chicken I've ever had and the best crispy onions. It was such a big meal and I couldn't finish the whole plate. Blueberry lemon mascarpone tartlet: yummy! ENDING: Don't forget to tip your helpers and Chef T! Remember that they prepped everything for you beforehand and wash your dishes for you at the end. Chef T will also email you a copy of the recipe so that you can try to make it again yourself. I say "try" because I attempted making the meal again, but couldn't get the chicken as juicy as it was when Chef T helped me :( read more

The BF and I had the opportunity to attend their Valentine's Day cooking class and had a wonderful time! First off, the place is in downtown SJC, super cute and quaint. There is plenty of parking in nearby areas and on the streets but we opted for the structure parking next to the theater since there's no time limite after 6PM. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the helpers who was really nice and instructed us to wash our hands, pick an apron, a hand towel and choose our station. i love the look of the cooking school/kitchen, it really feels like you're at home. there's three sections, the "living room" where they have sofas to lounge on, the "dining room" where there is a long dining table completely set up and then theres the big kitchen area where we cook. there are four stations, each station is set up for 4 people so we had a total of 8 couples in class that night. you really work closely with the other couple at your station because the four of you are essentially working together to make the dish for your own group. so being open minded and social is pretty important. our chef for the evening was Chef T along with two of her helpers (sorry, i couldnt remember their names). our French menu for the evening was as follows: Creamy Potato Leek Soup with Flambéed Gruyere Cheese Toast Points, Chicken and Wild Mushroom Crepe with Creamy Chive Béarnaise Sauce, Steak au Poivre with Red Wine Dijon Sauce and Crispy Herb Frites and for dessert classic Pate Choux filled with Chocolate Mousse. I couldn't even pronounce half the menu let alone know what i was actually cooking. what really helps is that all the ingredients are already measured and set out for you and for those ingredients that need to be prepared on demand, the two helpers are there to bring them to you and clean up after your mess so that you are always working in a very clean working station, which is really nice! our group made a mess a couple of times and before we knew it, one of the helpers swoops by with a towel and cleaned it up. while we were cooking, we were allowed to sip on our wine (if we brought our own bottles), which we did. but they also provide tea and water if we needed it. they also brought out bags of pop chips for us to nibble on. the instructions given by Chef T was very precise and clear, all the dishes may have looked difficult to prepare, was actually quite simple. the entire cooking process took about two hours and before we knew it, it was time to eat! the chef and her two helpers actually put plated all the food we cooked while we sat at the dining table chatting away with our new friends. everything turned out so delicious that i couldnt even believe we made it! at the end of the meal, we were offered hot tea or coffee. even though the class time indicated 6-9pm, we were there well after 10pm having such a wonderful time! i've always wanted to take couples cooking class and i'm so happy to have experienced it here especially on Valentines Day! read more

This was a great experience. We made 3 dishes in about 2 hours. The whole class did hand made pasta and everything that goes with that, using the little pasta making machine. A mango desert and Pizza pinwheels (rolls). The staff was great at keeping an eye on what everyone was doing and helpful. Parking in the downtown San Juan Capo area on Memorial Day weekend was a bit crazy but we found a spot over in the parking structure near the train depot. 3 hour limit, so that worked out well. read more

Everything was perfectly prepped for us and the instructions were clearly given with added assistance when needed. Such a fun night and great food! Went last night with 3 girlfriends to the "cook, wine and dine" event. Fabulous. Always nice to have wine poured while you drink. We all like cooking but still learned new tips and techniques. All the staff there are great and helpful and understand we are there to have fun too. We kept Jessica at our table and she was the best. And the new guy (Alan) put up with our silliness. Food - delicious. We took "to go" because we were so full we couldn't finish all of it - but tried. And at the dinner we met other couples and had a great time with them too. Wine, food, laughs and fun people. Overall it was a really fun experience and I got to learn some new recipes that I will definitely try myself at home. Chef T was super friendly but sometimes she does speak quickly and in the beginning I kind of got the feeling that she was getting impatient if you don't keep up. But once things got rolling it was super fun. She walks around a lot to answer any questions you may have and helps when needed. Definitely a fun date idea. PARKING: Coming from the I-5, I recommend turning left into El Camino Real, and parking in the lot on the right. It has free 5 hour parking and is right behind the building. ATMOSPHERE: In a class there are 4 tables, each with 4 people (or 2 couples) so you will have to meet new people and divide up the tasks. All the ingredients and equipment are prepped and measured for you already in little baggies so you just go ahead and add everything together when she tells you to. Pretty fail safe. Not really a class where you learn cooking techniques and how to chop or whatnot but I did learn a few little generic tips here and there which is good. You can bring your own wine bottles and drink while you cook if you want. Usually takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to make the whole meal. PRICE: Usually around $60-80 per person. Reservations required and classes fill pretty fast so book early. Menu of the day for us was a sweethearts brunch: Candied bacon scones with maple butter. Avocado salsa with tomato and mozzarella frittata. Sausage hash with carmelized apples on top of greens with balsamic vinaigrette. And for dessert strawberry crepes. You dont really go in any particular order when cooking. Sometimes you make one thing, then set it aside and come back to it after making something else. Favorite dish for me was the frittata and the crepe. Finally got the hang of them after maybe 3 tries. After you cook it all you sit down at the dining table and the chefs and assistants will plate it for you and serve it course by course. They also offer coffee, tea and wine. I cant really judge the quality of the food since it is based on your cooking skills but it is pretty hard to mess it up. While you're eating Chef T will chat it up and ask us our favorites, how to make variations on the recipe, etc. At the end you can take the recipes home or she will email it to you. I love this place so much! My parents and I have got once together, and they go frequently now! I'm moving out for college soon, and so they're picking up some fun actives to partake in, and this is perfect for that! My husband and I really enjoyed the cooking class we took here. The friendly instructors were very knowledgeable and shared tips on applying the techniques learned towards other recipes. After the instruction, we were all seated at a banquet table to enjoy a 4 course meal. My skills have definitely improved. Will return for more lessons. Would give more "stars" if I could! read more

I wish I knew how good this place is... Feels impossible to book a class here. I bought a voucher almost a year ago and still haven't been able to use it. They just sell classes knowing they have no space for you to join since it's small classes and gets booked up instantly. Also half the month is set aside for other events so you're really left with not many options. Truly sucks that I haven't been able to go yet since I was really looking forward to it. read more

Wow! This business is so well run and never fails to deliver great service. We've been going there for several years. I was worried they wouldn't survive COVID crisis. So glad they did! It is the best place for a date with your loved one, to celebrate birthdays, or to simply just learn to cook interesting food. I took my Dental Team to Tspoons for a fun team building night. We had the most incredible time. The atmosphere was fun and energetic. The cooking was absolutely amazing and so delicious. We had more fun than we ever could have anticipated. I would recommend this to anyone. If you are single, a couple or a group, everyone will have a great time. The chefs made the evening so fun and not at all intimidating. I am not a cook by any stretch, but I have been excited about cooking ever since going... I took my wife there for our anniversary and we had so much fun! The other "classmates" were fun to be with but most importantly the staff at Tspoons were WONDERFUL!!! Plus we learned some new Mexican dishes to cook that were delicious! The best part of our time at Tspoons is the staff do all of the time consuming preparation work for you (measuring and chopping ingredients) then the staff instruct us in putting it all together - plus they make it fun! Then we were served the very food we had just made to enjoy our delicious creations. Went to the San Juan Capistrano location with my boyfriend last night for the surf and turf couples night. I am truly surprised by all the 5 star reviews. I had one of the worst cooking/dining experiences EVER. I would never come here again, nor recommend this experience for a friend. PROS: 1. Clam chowder and bread bowl - the only palatable food we made. CONS: 1. There was a HUGE holiday celebration in downtown San Juan Capistrano last night. There was absolutely NO PARKING. My boyfriend and I were coming from out of town so we were not familiar with the area. We were driving around for 30 minutes trying to find parking, and thus were late to class. It would've been nice if tspoons warned us about this event beforehand so we could've left even earlier than we already did. 2. I had no idea we were sharing stations with another couple. I had this idea in my head that everyone had their own cooking stations for a more intimate experience. I signed up for "DATE NIGHT" and not "COOK WITH RANDOM PEOPLE" night. They should make that clear in their website. I tried calling 6 hours before the class to ask about this, and apparently they only answer their phone during class times. (?!?) We are not living in the stone age anymore, you can easily have your business line transferred to your cell phone so you are more accessible to your customers. 3. No where on the website or in the emails that were sent to me did they say ANYTHING about bringing your own wine. First we were stressed out finding parking, then we came late, then we find out we're sharing stations. I needed a damn drink at this point. But no, we had to give everyone else the evil eye as we enviously stared at them laughing, having fun, and drinking their wine. 4. My boyfriend and I cook often. We didn't learn anything new about cooking. Everything we did learn could've been easily read off a recipe. 5. Everything was rushed. There were way too many courses to make in an hour. If we made less, we probably could've learned a lot more. 6. There was a lot of time waiting around for clean utensils, waiting for our food, etc. When we were done cooking we were all tired and just wanted to eat, but we had to wait for them to set the table, prep the food, pass out the food, etc. They need more staff to help them with this and the night would go a lot smoother. 7. THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE. The shrimp we made was WAY too spicy. The steak was RAW. No Chef T, it was not medium rare or rare-- it was raw. Half the table sent their plate back because it was inedible. The chocolate souffle was way too sweet...and I have a sweet tooth. This would make anyone's teeth rot. And this isn't all just my opinion about the food, it was the consensus from around the table.
