He didn't just tow it, he rushed it all the way to Redding to make sure it reached the dealership before closing, so I didn't have to worry about leaving it outside overnight. My daughter and I were headed up to Portland and got caught just before a Highway 5 closure north of Redding. Although the 1610 travel advisory radio alerts said that Highway 299 was not an alternate route, it looked good on Google Maps. So, we decided to take a chance. After making our way a fair distance up 299, we realized that we'd need chains so we made our way back to Redding to acquire some. We headed back up 299 and stopped with everyone else when it came time to put on the chains. Then it was time to split off to Highway 89 in order to connect back to the 5 beyond the closure. Conditions on 89 were okay at first so we pulled over to remove the chains before it got too dark. My daughter - smarter than her mother - had no problem unhooking her chains and laying them flat on the road. I, however, did not notice that I hadn't completely unhooked and flattened my chains so when I went to roll off of them they got caught in the axle. By this time it was almost dark, on this nearly deserted, unlit road. We called 911, who sent a CHP officer. The officer was an absolute saint who got on the ground with a flashlight to see if he could untangle the chain. No luck. He called for a tow truck and thankfully waited with us until it came. Here's where Mt. Burney Towing joins our sad roadside party. As the driver backed up in front of us, I told my daughter that the entire trip hinged on this moment. If the guy was to tell us that we'd have to be towed to the nearest town and stay overnight, we might have to scrap our Portland plans. Who knows what the repairs could cost and how long they would take? The tow truck guy could have EASILY taken advantage of us, taking us for a literal and figurative ride, but NOPE! For a very nominal fee, he pulled off the wheel, pulled out the tangled chain, checked around carefully, and proclaimed that there was zero damage to the car. On top of that, he fixed a hook on the chain that I had bent when I rolled over it, so that we could still use the chain. Which AGAIN saved our trip because we ended up having to put the chains back on a few miles later and kept them on for the next few hours as we traversed dark, narrow, solitary 89 to Mount Shasta and back to the 5. If the business owner reads this, I want to say THANK YOU for saving our trip! While everyone else on Highway 5 lost up to 24 hours because of the closure, we only lost half a day. It could have been much worse if not for your kind and honest service.

Shasta after Google…read moreMaps directed us to go up a detour route (Esperanza Road) with rough chip seal gravel. :( We called Black Butte Towing, and our driver, Dave, went above and beyond to help us fix the tire and salvage our backpacking plans. First, after we explained that we had gotten a ride to the McCloud Ranger station, Dave picked us up there without question. On the long and tedious journey back up to our car, his conversation and friendly demeanor helped put us at ease. A true professional, he was attentive and efficient with the tow itself. On the drive back, he made sure our car and our stomachs were looked after; he pulled into the parking lot of his favorite milkshake place to confirm that the vehicle hadn't slid sideways on the journey AND he bought us a sweet treat there, knowing the stressful day we had had. He insisted on paying. What a guy! As it had gotten late in the day, the tire shop to which we wanted to take the car wouldn't admit us (and didn't have a spare in a compatible tire anyways). Dave offered to drop us off at a hotel and remained flexible as we continued to explore our options. The grand finale? Just as our hopes were dimming to get the tire fixed that same day in order to attempt our summit, Dave offered to tow us to the nearest AutoZone, where we could pick up a cheap tire plug kit and try to plug the tire ourselves. That worked!! He patiently taught us how to install a tire plug, spending at least two extra hours after the original tow, all with a cheerful and positive attitude. Because of Dave, we were able to make it back to the Clear Creek trailhead late that same night, car camp, and attempt our summit early the next morning as planned. All in all, we were blown away by the customer service at Black Butte towing, and we could not thank Dave enough for the expert help and human kindness he showed us. 6 star review (if it were possible).

I had just left Weed on 97 North and about 15 miles out in the middle of nowhere I lost the engine. Lony made a very bad situation very bearable. Thank goodness I have Premier Triple A and I was good for a free 200 mile tow. I broke down 193 miles from Bend. Triple A contacted Bill's Tow and Lony (owner) was there within 20 or 30 minutes. Super nice guy and actually had a pleasant 4 + hour adventure as Lony towed my Suburban all the way to my shop. I want to recommend this guy and his company to anyone who needs help. The best.
