We were able to meet all the artists and enjoyed conversations with many wonderful collectors. Icing on the cake was meeting Logan Maxwell, whom I have been a long time fan. It was so incredibly serendipitous to just fall into such a fabulous night. Tried my best not to be the nutty fan girl! Not sure I succeeded. Was a great night. We live in Boise but would not hesitate to fly over for their next opening. Thank you Maxwell brothers for bringing this magic to the public.

Listed artists whose works hang in museums around the world! It is a hard to spot behind the trees that line the popular stretch of Ventura Boulevard. It sits on the south side of the street between Laurel Cyn & Coldwater Cyn, next to the famous 'Ivy' antiques center. The owner was lovely and chatted with us for a long time, no 'too-cool' frosty attitude here as usually given by galleries. From smaller drawings to huge paintings, photography and silkscreens, there's many beautiful pieces hanging on the walls!! I ended up buying a gorgeous painting and the owner actually drove it to my house and hung it for me! AND the frame was included in the price of the piece!!! Incredible service!!!!

Unfortunately, last Sunday (they opened a new show a night before), I walked over to check the new exhibit out. I found a note on the door "back in 10". Well, they were not back in 10, we waited for at least 15 - 20 minutes outside and no one showed up. They have the place opened just for 4 hours on Sundays. Shouldn't you stay in there during these 4 hours? At least I walked, so the inconvenience wasn't huge, but what if I've have driven there? Considering that parking is difficult on Lankershim. This isn't the 1st time it's happening, I want to support this place and love what they do, but please stay open during your business hours!

Don't fret my fellow-Yelpers, I was just getting to that! 800 Gallery is one of the many art galleries located in the NoHo Arts District. What makes this gallery stand out amongst its peers? Instead of just being an art gallery which features art shows and exhibits by artists based on a theme or contest; Gallery 800 has a catch: all of the artist exhibitors are members of the Art Directors Guild IATSE 800 (get it? Gallery 800? The union number of 800?). It is a wonderful way for members of the film and TV industry whom work behind the cameras to showcase their artistic flair and aptitude. Gallery 800 not only hosts exhibitions and receptions; but it works in conjunction with the Local 800 to convert Tuesday nights into an artistic and stress relief by offering drawing workshops at the nearby Local 800 building on Ventura Blvd in Studio City. For $10/night, entertainment industry professionals (or not. You DON'T have to be the member of any union. You can be Joe Schmo off the street); can spend a couple hours fine-tuning their drawing/illustrating skills while also sharing and networking with others. As for the receptions at 800 Gallery, they don't have the usual stuck-up and pretentious quality to them. I attend many art events and this was one of the first times that it felt like everyone was actually flowing with creativity versus just a supposed supporter of art AKA rich snob. Gallery 800 is retaining art at its best. Plus, with yummy refreshments (chips & salsa, veggie platters, cookies, donation-only wine/beer/soda bar), your tummy will be pleased too. If you see the gallery curator Denis Olsen, feel free to ask him questions. He is very knowledgeable. Whether you are in the entertainment industry or not, Gallery 800 stands out amongst the art gallery crowd. Call it a themed gallery or just call it a creative hub, you will be happy to simply call it at all.

I went to Avenue 50 Studio for a poetry reading the other week, to celebrate the launch of a new…read morebook by Rocio Carlos and Rachel Kaminer. It was my first time at this venue, though I know it hosts readings and other cultural events all year round. It's a really lovely gallery in Highland Park, with a focus on Chicanx/Latinx visual arts. The space is welcoming, with several open rooms flowing into each other, each of them decked out with artwork. Until this weekend, you can see a Day of the Dead exhibit honoring photographer Laura Aguilar, with tribute photography from several artists, as well as a display of Aguilar's Day of the Dead coffin series from 1990. The reading was on a Friday night, so it was basically a party, with booze and snacks and a DJ (poet F. Douglas Brown) in addition to the poetry. It felt fun and vibrant and comfortable, like a party in a super cool artist's house. There were probably over fifty people in attendance, and we all fit comfortably in the main room when it came time to listen to the reading. If you're looking to add a little more art to your cultural diet, I'd highly recommend checking out Avenue 50 Studio. Check the calendar, too, as there are regular free events. You might get some music and literature to go with your dose of visual art.

Came here to check out the art gallery and library grounds after work and was glad that they close…read moreon the later side. You really do feel the opulence as you drive through the mirador entrance up this long driveway to get to the library. Free parking but it does get packed since many people also park here to access the hiking trails next to the library. This is a beautiful library and many people do come here to study as I noticed most tables were filled. However, there is a loud buzzing sound from the lights but I guess it becomes background white noise if you are used to it. Portraits of Mr. and Mrs. Brand, their family and how the library was are on the library walls so you can learn more about how it all started. The art gallery this time around has an exhibit from Thinkspace, featuring artwork of over 70 artists, on now until March 29, 2025. I really enjoyed the art pieces and took photos of the ones that really impressed me. The grounds features Brand Park, the Japanese tea house (closes early like 3pm), Doctor's House, which is a historical house, and a couple of hiking trails. Overall, a cool place to check out and just 15 minutes away north from downtown Glendale if you need to grab a bite to eat.
