Just back from an open adventure afternoon...ah man, im 6 again and there was no pain -yet- in…read moregoing back in age! There is a decent amount of adventure in the estate, which is massive and with a great scenic view; and yet at no point did i feel unsafe or that there was room for risk. we were a bunch of friends and a family with 2kids under 10 were taking part too. we all had the same amount of fun. Words of advice: your body temperature is going up amd down, be prepare for both. there were no tea/coffee facility when we came which is a real pity so you mihht bring ur own water.we ve been told june onwards is mad busy so booking well ahead is crucial. If you re only interested in the accommodation part of their activity, lets be honest, the houses are ugly unfinished looking things. didnt check the inside tho. i guess the amazing view and the remoteness, along with the river liffey and the sound of birds could make up for that but seriously they could have done a better job at the aesthetic of the houses. great place for fun time in families and friends.

Kippure Estate offers plenty of holiday rental properties within its 240 acres of private estate in…read morethe Wicklow mountains. First impressions are the properties are in a remote location well suited to people who want to get away from it. However, the Estate also doubles up as a team building/corporate centre so it can be far from quiet. We booked a week out of season (May 2008) for 5 adults and two infants in one of the 4 bedroom self-catering apartments. The booking was directly through the compehensive website. The standard of the property we stayed in was average - nothing special. It consisted of 3 bedrooms (one with ensuite) and bathroom on the ground floor and one bedroom on the first floor where the main lounge, dining and kitchen area was located in open plan format. The kitchen is not particularly well stocked with utensils, especially for a large family group, and it was difficult to obtain missing items from reception. Overall I would say the property was OK. For families with small children you should be aware that most days needed an hour in the car to get to the major attractions nearby e.g. the beach south of Wicklow, Glendalough, Powerscourt, etc. This also applies to provisions as there are no shops around the corner - a good 30 minute drive the nearest grocers so stock up or be prepared for a drive. However, it is a good base for day trips to Dublin. Drive to Dublin Zoo and jump on the City sightseeing bus - a good cheap option to get into Dublin avoiding the traffic. Overall, if you really want to get away from it all I would suggest looking for a cosier property that would feel comfortable in bad weather (which can be common in these parts). Unfortunately, this place did not do it for us but this is my opinion so others may love it.

Outstanding guesthouse / holiday rental. We spent a week here, two adults and our two boys, and…read moreall of us absolutely fell in love with it. My younger son actually sobbed as we left. The cottage is a converted farmhouse, and it is 300 years old, but fully updated. With three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, everyone had plenty of room, and there was a nice living room, dining room, and eat-in kitchen. We cooked most of our own meals, and the kitchen was thoroughly furnished with everything we needed. The washer/dryer were also great, as the boys got very dirty running around in the muck (which they loved to do!) For the parents, the highlights were the lazy days, the peace and tranquility after a day of sightseeing, and the absence of wifi or cell phone service. While this might be a deterrent for some, we found it quite refreshing to unplug ourselves (and our kids) from all of the electronic gizmos. For the kids, the highlight was certainly the farm. Both boys got into the action, waking up by themselves every morning at 7am to help milk the cows, running around with the dog and the calves, then hurrying back from sightseeing to milk the cows again at 5pm. I had no idea that the kids would take such a liking to this, but they actually go up on their own at the crack of dawn to "do their chores" with the cows. The couple who manage the farm and the self-catering cottage, Brigid and Dan, were absolutely delightful hosts. They made themselves available whenever we needed anything, and they were happy to tell us stories of the area and give us tips for where to go, but they were by no means intrusive. They were wonderful with the kids, showing them how to help out with the chores on the farm and making the kids feel so special. This is truly a one-of-a-kind holiday experience that you won't soon forget. We can't wait to go back.

I was disappointed in my room at Staycity. This is an odd hotel--I assume the rooms are…read moreindividually owned and rented out, like a timeshare condo, since some of the photos posted here look NOTHING like our room. If I were a college student looking for a cheap place to stay with a bunch of my friends near Temple Bar, this probably would be a great hotel. But, I'm almost 60 and needed temporary lodging for a month, and this did not suit my needs well. Our room had two small bedrooms (one queen bed and one with two twins), and the cozy main room had two fold-out sofas. The beds were good and the bathroom was nicely updated, but the furniture in the main room was substandard. The two "sofas" were in poor condition (ripped) and started as poorly-constructed dorm-room furniture when new (perhaps a decade ago). They were terribly uncomfortable, with bars that poked through the worn pads. It is clear these were much more intended to be fold-out beds than sofas, and they were so awkward that we were almost unable to use them during our stay. Meanwhile, the large dining room table was missing a pad under one foot, so it would wobble dangerously (which we learned the hard way with a glass of water on the top). I had to adjust the pads to prevent further accidents. There were other minor annoyances. If you need to cool down the unit, it can be quite loud with street noise and a bar across the street. (I learned a few football chants thanks to late-night parties.) The elevator needed some repair, with broken call buttons on a couple of floors. And our room had an odd closet that looked like someone forgot to finish the job of constructing it. The one positive thing here was the staff. The cleaning crew was professional, and most of the desk staff was very helpful, particularly the day crew. (The staff here lifted what would've been a two-star review to three stars.) I cannot understand how some of the rooms could be so nice (according to photos) and others so very, very different. I expect a bit more consistency in a hotel, so I would not be encouraged to stay in another Staycity property.

And, wow!... the breakfasts are outstanding, and so beautifully presented. But what made this place truly special are the kind and caring people who worked there. Enjoyed a private walking tour by Pat Moylan, Kilkenny Walking Tour that the Butler house lined up for us. Pat is truly passionate about the history of Kilkenny, and we learned so much! And, Waterford was a quick day trip by train. Highly recommend the walking tour by Jack Burtchaell (meet at the Granville Hotel).
