My son has attended this camp for 3 summers now and we absolutely love Tumble Weed Camp! The staff are amazing and truly care about the kids. This camp helped my child come out of his shell and become more confident and outgoing, which has meant so much to us. We also hosted a party there, and our guests couldn't stop raving about it. I was really hopeful about Tumbleweed Day Camp, but my experience trying to cancel has been frustrating and disappointing. We had to move out of the area and I notified the camp as soon as possible, asking to cancel and requesting a refund. I was told they don't offer refunds unless someone from the waitlist takes the spot--which would be fair if they actually tried. Despite multiple email follow-ups over several weeks and being extremely patient, no real effort was made on their end. I personally know someone on the waitlist for our session who never received a call or update. If the policy is dependent on the spot being filled, then it's the camp's responsibility to at least try to fill it. Parents--if you're considering this camp, just know that if anything changes, you'll be stuck. No flexibility, no proactive communication, and no accountability in their own process. And if you're on the waitlist, don't just wait for a call--because they may never make one. Be ready to chase them down. Really disappointed in how this was handled. read more

Went to check out this camp today, as part of the SoCal moms event. We played in Joyce jungle, made a tie dye shirt, did some archery, and bounced around in Leroy the snake bounce house. Also won a pair of movie tickets to see Space Jam, even though we already have HBO Max subscription haha and it's free. All in the name of good fun. read more

This was a wonderful program for kids when I worked there in the summer of 1958 after returning from my time in Germany post UC Berkeley graduation. I was fortunate to teach archery, to assist with horsebacking riding, various games and the singing. I loved when Pete Seeger came to lead/teach folksongs. I even enjoyed picking up and taking kids home from and to to Bel Air and Beverly Hills as a bus driver. A great thing, too, was the Friday nights when staff got to ride up over the Mt down to the valley and back. 5 stars. read more

We love Tumbleweed Day Camp! We didn't get a chance to tour Tumbleweed before reserving our daughter's 5th birthday party. We decided to take a chance based on the sample itinerary, great price and the pictures on their site and their facebook page. It totally paid off. First corresponding with Brooks was a breeze. He was very responsive and answered all my questions.On the day of the party, I pulled up and there were a team of people there waiting to help me unload and decorate. Mark Twain, Siracha and Bunt Cake are awesome! It was just entertaining watching Mark Twain give directions. He has a great sense of humor. Everything was so professionally done and moved along smoothly. The itinerary we chose included free play, the tumblewheel, Tuckerville, the petting zoo lunch/cake. We didn't have time for the field games but it didn't matter we had so much fun in those 3 hours. The place was so quaint and cute and we were surrounded by trees and beauty. The tumbleweed staff helped pass out food, cut cake, pack and decorate. So don't hesitate. This is a perfect place for a kid's birthday party in Los Angeles. This review is for a birthday party we had here last month. Brooks, the Community Programs Director, and his staff were excellent. Brooks was a breeze to work with - we scheduled a visit (in anticipation of our party) and he showed us around and gave us great ideas. (You can read about all the party offerings on-line). He was always readily available via e-mail or phone....just an all around nice guy. The staff at the party were enthusiastic, professional and sweet. They jumped right in to help us unload our cars, set-up and throughout the entire event, were attentive to the kids and very organized. They helped with all the clean-up and loading of gifts as well. Really, it was fantastic to have a group of camp counselors who love kids and are great at what they do, take over our party. I didn't worry about a thing! read more

I signed up my daughter, excited for her first day in camp and paid for 20 days in advance to get the discount. Unfortunately, they don't put kids with their gender, only with the age with the proximity of 3 months, so I your child is 4 years 8 months, they won't put her in a group that is 5 years and 1 month for example. My daughter was with 12 kids, and 10 of them were boys. She didn't want to go to the camp and was naturally unhappy since girls like to do girls things not boy things. The camp does not get it. then I asked to reschedule my 20 days to different days as my schedule changed. I inadvertently gave them more dates when I rescheduled not realizing I only had 20 days , they charged me the 2 days without my authorization. Usually I wouldn't care about an extra 2 days but my daughter doesn't like the camp. I'm now spending a lot of time fighting them on my Amex card. Though my camper enjoyed Camp Tumbleweed this summer, I would like to make the owner/director aware of a few things that he/she may want to improve in the future. I say this as a parent who enrolls her camper in multiple outdoor camps from Malibu to Agoura. I have quite a basis from which to compare. Some of the positives: some fun activities, the buses were fabulous, and many of the Counselors kind and compassionate. The negatives: no attempt at keeping campers' lunches cold at all - other camps have coolers in which the campers may place their lunches. No water spread out throughout the camp. My child was given multiple water bottles to take to Camp - but my child was expected to carry these throughout the day to every activity. That gets awfully heavy for a young child. Other camps have multiple water coolers located at every activity station throughout the camp. And yes, my child did come home a few times dehydrated with a heat induced headache. And this is not a whiny child. The arts and crafts was ridiculous. The only art my child engaged in all summer was coloring paper. My child has done projects with beads, clay, tie dye t-shirts, and colored sand at every other camp attended. One of the Counselors informed the campers he/she would like to be referred to as "they." I do not appreciate the Counselors announcing their gender agenda to young, easily impressionable children. This is highly inappropriate and narcissistic. Counselors are there to help the campers. This includes monitoring what the campers forget. It would be great if the Counselors reminded the campers to search for their belongings before leaving the area. I hope the owner peruses this and considers making some minor changes that would really help improve this camp. I was admittedly disappointed and expected more from a Camp that is so pricey. read more

I can't say enough good things about this charming camp which feels like a beautiful, rustic retreat in the middle of the city. Archery, horseback riding, swimming, tumble wheel, dirt doggies, hiking, overnights have kept both my boys looking forward to coming back every year. My oldest one is now a teenager and has fond memories of his years at Tumbleweed. He even enjoyed the long bus ride. My youngest son also attends now and loves it. The counselors always remember him by name and even send him handwritten birthday cards during the school year (a little touch that is so so sweet). Scheduling online is so easy and the staff is friendly and responsive and every time my kids see a yellow tumbleweed bus roll by during the year around town, they light up. My daughter has attended Tumbleweed summer camp for the past 2 years. This past summer was a bit different given COVID, but Liz and Andy and the rest of the team put our worries to rest. From an initial video conference meeting to explain safety measures to going above and beyond to preserve the fun camp teams with safety precautions in place, this camp fosters a safe and fun environment for all campers. My daughter LOVES this camp and speaks of it often. The memories made this past summer have added a bright light to an otherwise difficult year for us all. Highly recommend! read more

Tumbleweed is an amazing camp with amazing programs and staff. My two girls have been going to camp every summer since they were 4 and love it. My favorite part of the program is the confidence and independence my girls develop every year. Their favorite part is wizard week (my 10 year old is Harry Potter obsessed) I would highly recommend Tumbleweed to anyone that asked. Tumbleweed is a day camp situated in the hills of Brentwood. They pick your kids up in the morning at your house & drop your kids off in the afternoon. They spend their day doing various activities such as swimming, archery, horseback riding & climbing. My daughter loved going to camp & had a blast. What I loved most was that she enjoyed all the activities of a traditional camp in a remote setting so close to home. You'd never believe you were still in Los Angeles when you are there. They also do Birthday parties there throughout the year. We've been to one & it was a lot of fun running around outside in the hills. read more

I have no idea Tumbleweed doesn't have more reviews. I haven't used them lately, but I sent my little cousin her for several years when she would visit me in the summers. She absolutely loved it. Our son had a great time at a party/event that they had here. Lots of fun activities and very engaging staff. When you're driving in, it feels like you're going the wrong way, but looking at their website I can see that parents aren't typically doing the drop off and pick up, so I can understand why there aren't too many signs. read more

Tumbleweed camp is, without a doubt, my favorite place on earth. I'm twelve, and I've gone to camp for seven years, which means I've been going there since I was five. There is so much to do there, like archery, swimming, horses, ropes, hiking, arts and crafts, and even theatre. All the counselors are so nice and funny, and I would recommend it for any kid. There are overnights on every other Thursday, so that means you go to camp Thursday morning and sleep over and leave camp Friday afternoon. The overnights are optional, so you don't have to do them if you don't want, but they are really fun. You get to go swimming and play on the inflatable in the afternoon, eat dinner at sunset with all your friends, change into pajamas and do campfire skits, and best of all roasting s'mores! Then you sleep under the stars. I highly recommend doing the overnight. There are so many fun things to do so that you will never be bored. There's theatre classes where you do improv, those are really cool. There's also a giant dinosaur structure that kids love to climb on. You can make friendship bracelets and lanyards, or play air hockey and foosball. There used to be a cooking class, but now it's changed to DIY. There is a really fun game called Gaga that anyone can be good at, and even if you get out it's pretty easy to get back in. There's also swimming where we play games like water polo, sharks and minnows, or sometimes we just hang out and have free swim. You can ride horses with wranglers who are really experienced and nice. There's also an inflatable which is really fun to play tag on or just hang out. There's also arts and crafts where we make clay sculptures and drawings and even sometimes little flip books. There's a nature center where kids can pet and play with goats, pigs, chickens, bunnies, and sheep. We also dissect owl pellets and do orienteering at the nature center. There's a garden with fruit and vegetables growing. You can pick tomatoes right off the vine and eat them! Or you can help plant new things. On the overnights, we get salads made out of the vegetables from the garden. There's the ropes course, where you get to climb things that are really tall. But it's safe, because you're on a harness and belay. So if you fall, you won't actually fall, you'll just stay suspended in the air. There's also a rock wall which uses the same safety methods as the ropes course. The rock wall is really fun and awesome. There's even dirt doggies, which is a cross between a bike and a scooter. Dirt Doggies is really fun but last year there was a yellow jacket nest up the trail, and me and my friends got stung. After that, they closed off the yellow jacket nest and no one else got stung. There's a hiking trail that takes maybe thirty minutes to climb, but it's not very steep. The friends you make at camp are the friends that last a lifetime. I'm still in touch with people from my first year ever! If you send your kid here, they will probably make a lot of new friends. read more

My son did not enjoy this camp, which was disappointing given that it was by far the most expensive camp he's been in. A lot of kids seem to like it though so it really just depends on your child and what they enjoy. My son didn't like the long bus ride, or the very structured nature of the camp (moving from one activity to the next without any free time to play and choose what they want to do). They have a lot of fun, structured activities, so it's good for kids who enjoy that. Just wasn't a good fit for us. read more

My kids have gone to Tumblweed for swim lessons, and I plan on sending them to camp this summer. It is an extraordinary place. The grounds are well-maintained and beautiful. This is a great camp! Our 9 year old has gone there for 2 years. It is expensive but, where they spend there money seems to be on the counselors and transportation. A bus picks up on Abbot Kinney and Venice. Our son has meet a few neighbors and learned social skills along with camp things , like how to throw a tomahawk. The camp is very wholesome, no electronics, lots of exercise. The counselors must get some training on child development and conflict resolution because the kids all adore them. read more

If I could give this place 5+ stars I would. We had my daughter's birthday party there this month and everything was fantastic. The counselors are all so wonderful/majorly attentive with all the kids and were very helpful in terms of keeping the party and all of its activities running smoothly with safety in mind. The camp grounds are super cute and have lots to offer. All of the children and adults had an awesome time and we will definitely consider having future parties there as well as having my daughter attend camp. read more
