Customer Service has gone WAY down. There isn't any consistency to the services, the whole vibe is off.

For several years, I bounced from shop to shop while traveling. I'd just Yelp whatever barber shop was nearby when I had a minute, because I hadn't come across a stylist worth the effort for a return trip. That changed when a friend recommended Alexis at Tune Up. The other stylists here are pretty good if I happen to stop by during the week, but come on a weekend and ask for Alexis. She is lovely, bubbly, professional, and quick. She makes my day better every time I visit, and I always leave looking good and feeling good about myself. It's always good vibes at Tune Up, with great service and free drinks. Today Alexis was exceptional. I hadn't had time to get a haircut recently due to my work/travel schedule, but today my flight was delayed and I was able to stop in. She took great care of me as always and kept me on schedule for my trip because she's so good at what she does. Thank you! read more

2 hour wait and the blonde young lady at the front had attitude and kept rolling her eyes at us. Ok if you going to persist to tell us that we have a long wait due to appointments etc at least offer us a drink. Even a bottle of water would been nice instead we got attitude while others got a mix drink or beer. Now after 2 hours the haircut was good. I've been going here solely since I've moved to houston, the wait has always been long but it used to be worth it. Recently I've had to be careful on who to go to because I've had my hair messed up twice. Angry momma here, 3rd time here is the final time. First experience was only alright, bit of a wait for only three other people to the Four stylists. Second the lady messed up my son's hair, but I figured it must be because she's young, must be inexperienced. Third and final time has burnt out my patience. Arrive, sign in as a walk in, told it was a 30 minute wait-but we could run errands and they would let us know if they were free sooner. They call 20 minutes after we leave, say they'll be ready for us in 5-10 minutes, I tell them Great, we'll be right over in that time frame! Get there in 8 minutes, as they are taking someone else back. 30 minutes later I get sick of waiting, pissed because I'm trying to keep a cute toddler happy, and All the stylists see us, one girl finishes her guys hair within 10 minutes of our return but spends her time otherwise playing on her phone. The young lady up front (very sweet) came out after us as we were loading into the car apologizing saying she had to move people around but the stylist ready - This, that girl on her phone playing around, was who ended up butchering my sons hair. I tell her to Not shave where his cowlick is-I outline where it Clearly is, tell her a 2 or 3 on the sides, hard part to one side, and a Light trim off the top, to leave length, only to even the hair out. Well she must have felt Very Edward Scissorhands because she Shaves and cuts where the cowlick is, and chops 3 Inches off the top of his hair. We will not be returning, the manager covered it when I let them know what had happened. We normally frequent the location off of beltway 8 but this location is closer to home so we stopped in. An hour to hour and half wait was insane for stylists who sit around on their phones. We always ask for the top to be longer and the sides short. We left thinking it looked okay since it was styled, but after showering realized it looked so choppy. Terrible don't go here. You ask for very little off the top and they cut off half. They do a messy job and leave parts of your hair uneven. The person that did my hair cut the left and right side different. This has happened every time I've gone. I ask for very little off the top, and they always cut way too much. This isn't a bad communication on my part either. I told them VERY LITTLE off the top, and they proceed to cut half of it off. The atmosphere is always cheery, but everyone getting their hair cut looks miserable. I saw at least two other people's hair cut to short, and they looked as happy as I did. Please don't go here if you like your hair long or at all. Just to put in into perspective I made a yelp account just to warn others not to go here. It's that bad. read more

Total disregard for peoples time in this place. Came in and the wait was supposed to be 25 minutes. Over an hour later we were finally called back. This only after I complained that people that had come in and checked in after us went back. And, only after the stylist finished have a nearly 20 minute conversation with a friend, while we waited patiently and other people went back for haircuts. One of those folks that went back after arriving after us waited 10 minutes and got his haircut while we were still waiting. Good concept, awful management. When you start playing favorites with customers and coming up with BS excuses about how other customer requested certain stylists and that is why they went in ahead of you lose customers. First time here and I am sold as a customer!! Not only do you get what may seem like the Royal treatment at other salons/barber shops, which just seems to be how they do business here, but they really know what they are doing. First off I feel like this is the first cool business to come to my area in a long time. You walk in and sign in and take a seat at the bar while you wait to be called upon. You almost don't mind waiting for your turn but I know we are all in a rush so just sign up for the VIP package and skip the line and get unlimited cuts and beard trims yup that's right!! If you have kids or want a little extra for yourself they also have a pedi station. Drop by and give them a try you won't regret it!! Guy at the front desk is an unfriendly jerk! After checking in I asked how long the wait might be. He then for the first time looked up from his phone and said 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I mentioned that it would be helpful if he had mentioned that when I walked in or the computer checkin could have given that. In a jackass tone he responded "well you coulda asked couldn't you". What a turd, never going back there again. Each time I've been there, the guy has never greeted anyone and is always on his cell phone. So for starters I've been to the other location on the beltway. After this review I intend on giving them 5 stars after seeing how this place was run. You would think a chain would have consistent standards. I have never in my life waited an hour and 15 minutes for a haircut. When I walked in there were not that many people waiting but then they backed up very quickly. Though they were backed up they did not expedite cleanup between customers. I caught two hairdressers on their phones between customers for several minutes before sweeping their station as well as the bartender who seemed pretty decent until she asked if I called her "hot shot" (which was weird) and recorded herself on an Instagram post while I was waiting. I think she was playing it as a real bartender but when you're just serving two complimentary drinks while waiting to get your hair cut this doesn't exactly make you a bartender. Finally, while waiting for my haircut I had to pee a few times. While I was there this place presented a somewhat right wing political poster. When I'm waiting so long for a haircut that I have to pee, I'd rather not have to be exposed to the manager's political ideals. Again I'm giving the other location 5 stars because I've never had to wait so long to get a haircut that I had to pee, so I honestly have no idea if they have any political posters on their wall or not. If this was a biker bar then I'd totally get this but this place is not a bar, it's a barber that serves drinks! Overall it was an unfortunate experience. I came to this location because I needed a mechanic and wanted to get a haircut while my car was being serviced. The other location on beltway 8 has a better hair place but crappy mechanics, the NTB next to this place was awesome. This was a reverse situation. The only reason this is not one star is because the hair cut I waited forever for was decent and the lady who poured my drinks (will not call her a bartender) was nice. read more

i came in with lots of hair on my head (curly Afro only on the top) and I asked a girl who was cutting my hair for a low taper fade around the sides and 1 singular inch off the top but she felt the need to cut not 2 or 3 but 5 whole inches causing me to lose a years worth of growth gone and I even asked for a low taper and got a bald fade and I was planning on getting twists but because someone can't cut hair I have to wait for it to all grow back. TLDR came in with a beautiful curly Afro and left with a simple bald fade and a bowl cut. read more

This place is too FRESH! At first, I was very hesitant about the situation because of my long hair. I didn't know if I wanted to cut it all off or just get a trim. Since getting out of the military, I was on my rebellious stage and that's why I let my hair grow for almost a year. I guess I was finally over it and needed to return back to a FRESH clean cut. As I walked in, everyone greeted me and the bartender was way helpful. She made me feel at easy and as if I was at home with a friend. I was appointed to Neely for the hairstyle I was wanting to go for. Upon meeting her, she too was way more than helpful. As I was enjoying my drink, she sat with me and we had a little chat and made me feel comfortable as I told my journey to get to being there. I also showed her what I was thinking of going for and she already had a great vision in her head. All in all, everything worked out great! No more long hair and back to the fade I miss! If anyone is looking for a FRESH place to go for a regular haircut, a fade, a trim, etc. or just to hangout, this is a great place! Just Say NO! I walked in on Saturday the 2nd and waited the hour as a walk in. Once seated for the hair cut I discussed what I wanted but it seemed she didn't really care, she was just there to cut hair. I requested my hair be textured and at a glance I thought all was well. I came back on Thursday to see if I could get it fixed and thats when the real damage occurred (waited 45 min to be seated). Guess I'll have to walk around like this now for the next month and everyday when I get ready I'll think about what a mistake it was to go to TUNE Up - the Manly Salon. If getting a buzz from alcohol is what you want go here, but If you want an actual haircut and not a hack job, I'd say stick to Bars for booze and leave haircutting to the professionals at a real salon. read more
