I can't believe it took me so long to venture to Turkey Run, but I'm so glad I did as this is an amazing park! Just a warning during these COVID times, this park was crowded! There are lots of opportunities to cross creeks and even hang out down by the Potomac. I think I wound up on the Potomac Heritage Trail, which was really cool because there were old furnaces, chimneys, etc. I didn't see any wildlife (except other people), but I could hear a lot. I parked at C2; apparently C1 has more picnic space and restrooms. Lots of dogs here! I definitely plan to return again soon!

Amazing place to walk on the Potomac. Super cool waterfalls and gorgeous views. Would recommend wearing boots, especially in wintertime since the paths are hard to navigate. Wouldn't recommend bringing small children however since some parts of the trail make to cross jagged rocks and hard to reach areas. The place was massive and would totally recommend to seasoned hikers or people who just want to enjoy the river.

I happened to go there this afternoon. Really cloudy like a mist sauna, autumn colored leaves, dogs barking somewhere close, comfortable sounds of the river,... So many great things. Rejuvenation for soul!

Overall, I have no complaints. I guess the reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I was left disappointed. There wasn't much to see at all on these trails. There are a few streams here and there as well as a couple small waterfalls. Also, not many signs anywhere to tell you where you're going. It was however more challenging than expected with some tough trails alongside the river. It was also a very clean park which I appreciated. Besides the sound of GW Parkway in the distance, I truly felt I was out "in the wild" hiking. I wouldn't not recommend anyone going here, I just feel like there are better options out there!

Attempted to adventure here on a whim and got very lost. Google Maps does not take you to the park, but rather the ranger station. See previous reviews for how to get here for real--turn around and take the park turnoff! Once inside there's 3 main parking areas but none say specifically where the trail starts. We tried to park at C2 and found a bathroom and picnic tables but not a trailhead. We then went one parking lot further to the ranger station and got on a path. About 1/10 mile down there was a sign leading you to the Potomac Heritage Trail 0.3mi away, but it was unmarked and the trail was washed out. We then turned around and took a path on the other side of the ranger station that wound through the park with Potomac River views. The trail itself was beautiful but the poor trail markings, lack of map (even on the park website!), and unclear directions made it a little more frustrating. Just do your research before you go, park in C1 (as the other reviews say) and you will have a better experience!

I enjoyed trying to hike the Turkey Run Loop (4 miles) but am not sure I would try again because the trail is poorly marked. You can only access Turkey Run Park from northbound 495. There is a parking lot with an extremely faded and not very detailed map. From there, it is a windy, steep trail down to the Potomac with hodge podge steps. This trail is not for the elderly. There is a beautiful view of the Potomac and a little waterfall area that our dogs enjoyed playing in. Make sure you wear actual hiking shoes as you have to cross some rivers (Dead Run, etc.). I was happy we finally got an iphone because the GPS came in handy. This trail website has some good tips on the signage that I wished I had read sooner - http://www.localhikes.com/Hikes/TurkeyRun_8872.asp. The signs are originally yellow, then you follow blue, and then you follow yellow again. Our whole hike ended up being about 2.5 hours and we did not complete the trail because we weren't confident we were going in the right direction. The trail toward the end comes really close to some houses and we decided to turn around at that point (keep going). A few parts were challenging to jump around because the leaves were slippery from rain (keep this in mind when choosing your shoes). The dogs were in paradise and it was nice to not see many other people on the trails. For that reason alone, I might be brave enough to tackle the loop again!

This was a great trail and challenging. The steepness of the trail is not for the ones with bad knees. If only you can get away from the noise of the highway it would be perfect. The scenery inside the trail was good. We went to the first parking area. I think C2. Did the small loop. Felt good to be out in the heat.

Turkey run is a little escape from the city very close to the city. It has decent trails and a great view of the Potomac. If you park at C1 there is a short mile loop that will take you along a stream to the Potomac and then back up to your car. The hill to get back to your car is fairly steep, but the view over the Potomac is worth it. The trails are usually fairly empty. Dogs are allows on leashes. Bring bugs spray.
