Very good dining experience. We had a reservation at the bar for 4 and were seated immediatly upon arrival. There is a great upscale vibe and the live music made for a great atmosphere. This was our first time visiting and are not wine connoisseurs. Our server Shannon was very helpful in explaining the wines and making recommendations based on our input. We enjoyed a cross section of the menu. We had the Olives, Bread Service, and Hummus from the Bites menu. The Hummus dish was very good. Among our party we had the Ricotta Gnocchi, Short rib, and slow roasted chicken. I recommend the short rib as a strong dish. The roasted chicken dish could use some attention as the included escarole was a strange side as it had the consistency of dried leaves and was really an inedible part of the dish. The chicken was also "just" done as it had a wee little pink that made the eater a bit nervous about doneness. My daughter had the white wine flight and found it a good way to try multiple different options. I enjoyed the right bank red blend that was recommended based on the mixed experiences of two of us who were sharing a bottle. It was a good choice. I would recommend Turks Head for a nice evening with friends or a romantic evening with that someone special. Another great dining option in West Chester that has been under the radar. read more

Turks Head, West Chester -- Beautiful Atmosphere, Excellent Service, Inconsistent Food We recently visited Turks Head in West Chester as a party of four -- two couples celebrating two birthdays. Overall, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, wine, and service, but felt the food experience was somewhat inconsistent, especially considering the price point. Atmosphere 10/10. The space has a cool, sophisticated vibe that immediately stands out. We loved the music and overall ambiance -- it's clearly designed for lingering over wine, cocktails, and conversation. The atmosphere is easily one of the restaurant's strongest assets. Service Our waiter, Jack, was excellent -- attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. We genuinely enjoyed our interactions with him throughout the evening. The rest of the staff was also extremely friendly and accommodating, especially when we encountered issues with our entrées. Service overall was a highlight of the experience. Food The menu is structured around a first, second, and third course, though we opted for starters followed by entrées. The starters were a strong start. We tried the heirloom tomato dish, chilled shrimp, and Caesar salad with chicken. All were well received. The heirloom tomatoes and shrimp were appropriately portioned for starters, while the Caesar salad (with chicken added for an upcharge) was notably larger and very well executed -- one of the best dishes of the evening. For entrées, two of us ordered the branzino (market fish), which was very well prepared and paired nicely with the recommended wine. Unfortunately, the two porchetta entrées were extremely disappointing and had to be sent back. The staff kindly offered to remake them, but we declined, unsure a replacement would differ significantly. Instead, we ordered the lamb meatballs. While flavorful, they arrived cold and consisted of only two meatballs per order. The porchetta was removed from the bill, which we appreciated, though we were surprised the replacement dish was still charged given the circumstances. The staff handled the situation professionally, but by that point we were joking that we might need to stop for food on the way home. Drinks The wine program is interesting but somewhat confusing. They offer a white wine flight for $35 and a red flight for $35, with a "Gold" flight at $55 that includes both reds and whites. The structure felt a bit unclear, so we opted for cocktails and wine by the glass instead. The cocktails were excellent, and our friend enjoyed his white wine. During dinner, we ordered the Expedition Sauvignon Blanc, which paired very nicely with the branzino. The two Cabernet selections -- one from Napa Valley and one from Sonoma County -- were also well received. Desserts Dessert was a mixed experience. The chocolate tortes were good but slightly firm in texture. The lemon olive oil cake had a dry exterior but a pleasantly moist center. The standout was the selection of chocolates from a local chocolatier -- truly delicious. However, they were served on a warm plate and began melting almost immediately, which felt like an odd presentation choice for such delicate items. One additional surprise was that coffee or espresso was not offered after dessert, which felt like a missed opportunity given the restaurant's upscale wine-bar atmosphere. Special Occasions We mentioned we were celebrating two birthdays when asked. The staff did acknowledge them, which we appreciated. While we weren't expecting anything complimentary, a small gesture such as a candle with dessert would have elevated the moment and made the celebration feel more special. Overall Impression Overall, Turks Head excels in atmosphere and service. The space is beautiful, the staff is outstanding, and the wine and cocktails are very good. Several dishes were also genuinely enjoyable. However, the kitchen execution was inconsistent, particularly with the entrées, which makes the experience feel misaligned with the pricing and overall polish of the restaurant. Would we return? Yes -- but likely in a different way. Turks Head feels ideal for wine, cocktails, and light bites rather than a full dinner. Beautiful atmosphere and stunning decor! It's such an intimate vibe! The overall service was very good and attentive from both the server and wine specialist. She was very informative and provided information pertaining to each flight option, which was helpful. We ordered one white flight and one red. The red flight was not very good and particularly very dry. Unfortunately, I left most of it behind and did not finish at minimum half of each. The white flight was similar, my friend did not finish the white flight and was very disappointed, given its 30/40 a flight. I don't think we will be returning given other wineries nearby with better quality. I was really looking forward to this, but it was rather disappointing and I felt bad leaving so much wine behind but, it was not palatable. read more

Update based on owner response: as was stated, it wasn't a party of 22. I sat at a table of 4. My bill wasn't created with my other table mates and we never asked for that. Also, I know how tastings work as I have been to several wineries in multiple states and on a different continent. Regardless of what the misunderstanding was with the coordination of the evening, the expectation would be that the establishment would continue to provide respectful service, which could include saying "our apologies but we don't provide that service". At least that offers transparency. Family got together to celebrate nuptials. There may have been about 15 of us total. We were sat close together but at separate tables. Everyone ordering multiple flight tastings, bottles and other items off the menu. At one point my cousin made a toast that was about 3 minutes and a staff member came over asking "will there be any more speeches because there are other people in this area that arw not part of this party?" There was one other table, and because she was fairly quiet and brief, they barely looked up. Our server, Keegan, was great. When we asked about items he did well with his rwaponses and brought over thw wine "educator" (W.E.) when the protocol required it, which seems unnecessary at times. For example, one person from our table tried 2 wines for which the "W.E." was required. He came to the table spoke about them, she tried them and bought 2 bottles of one. She raved about it so myself and another person at our table asked for a tasting. The "W.E." came over and said something about us splitting one so we said ok. When the bill came there was a charge for basically 2 full pours. Also, when I paid my bill (attached) they used the tablet and I never chose a tip yet it was calculated after taxes and automatically added. This place was really nice and I would've have probably recommended if the overall hospitality was great. I would love to have said to colleagues or friends "let's plan something here because it's beautiful". However, when I, or the people I am with are not treated with respect and kindness throughout our experience, I cannot in good faith recommend for someone to go there and possibly receive similar treatment. I have been so excited to come here and try this place ever since I first saw their story online. We were in the area and stopped in without a reservation, but I remember reading that walk-ins were welcome. Upon entering, we stood and waited a while behind two people checking in with the hostesses. I decided to ask if we were okay to have a seat at the bar. (It was empty with only a few other couples). The hostess said "everything here is reservation only". Then she started looking in her system, and said we can fit you in. For starters, this place is absolutely beautiful. The decor is gorgeous with plenty bar and lounge seating and a double sided fireplace. Upscale and relaxing. We were seated at the bar. After a few minutes the bartender asked if we were having food and gave us menus. We decided on the humus with veggies and a bottle of their Cab Franc. The humus dips came with carrots, radishes & bread and was very good, and the wine was delicious! While taking pictures, I met the owner who offered to give us a tour. There is an amazing tasting room downstairs and one upstairs, along with a private bar and lounge area for members only. There is also a large room used for classes. We really enjoyed our time here. The food and wine were very good. The vibe is relaxing. The hostess was not welcoming. The bartender was nice but not friendly, and service was slow. Again, it was not busy. However, we noticed a young couple that came in after us waited a good fifteen minutes if not longer before they were even acknowledged at the bar. I don't get it. It's a little snobby. Everything can be perfect but if service is bad, people won't want to come back. A smile and a little friendliness goes a long way. With that said, the owner was gracious and adorable. This spot is a beautiful addition to downtown West Chester and is unlike any other spot we have here! The space itself is stunning! I was very impressed with how knowledgeable our server was about the wines, and she was very friendly and helpful. The wines and cheeseboard that we got were delicious and it was such a fun afternoon out. It is on the priced side but the experience is worth it. The only thing I would have changed is that I wish the reservation times were longer (you only get 90 minutes and I think 2hrs would feel less rushed, and would have ordered more). Came here with my friend yesterday for the first time. We had such a blast. We tried the charcuterie & shrimp tostada. We got elk and lamb charcuterie it was amazing!!! Rebecca our server was so knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations. Her and Jackie, who was shadowing her, were so sweet and friendly. We loved being able to chat with them. Fantastic wine, ambience and food. I went here solo last weekend. It was such a great experience. I enjoyed the white wine flight, chocolate flight, Caesar salad, bread and crab cake. Everything was incredible. I've gone wine tasting at a few different wineries in NJ and PA and also to a few wine festivals in NJ where I've sampled many different wines. Turks was one of my favorite, if not my favorite experience. I don't typically like more than one wine enough to buy, but at Turks I was having a hard time deciding between 3/5 in the flight. I ended up buying two because I just couldn't leave without them. The ambience is class all the way. Very upscale and modern. I will most likely buy a VIP membership before Christmas. I loved the live jazz and the crowd. At the end of the night the sommelier, Greg spoke to me about the wine and its origin which was really amazing. I paired the Melon I bought with scallops this weekend per his recommended and it was 10/10. The general manager gave me a tour of the entire venue as well. It was an amazing experience. My Husband and I just visited their lounge. We loved the entire experience! The service was spot on, the food was excellent and the wines were fun. The space is beautifully appointed and the atmosphere sophisticated yet relaxed. There was live music playing at the time. The guitar and saxophone duo played music that gently wafted through the space greatly enhancing the ambiance. We ordered a white and red flight so we could sample the different wines. For food we started with the Maitaki Tartine. It was not at all what I expected but it was absolutely delicious. Topped with crunchy frilly smoky maitaki mushrooms this shared plate checked all the boxes with a perfect combination of smoke, salt, and acid. Next we had the spinach risotto. This was also delicious even if the rice was a bit overcooked and lacked the traditional bite. For dinner we opted for the Tiger Prawns and the Crab Cake. The Crab cake was especially interesting with its curry sabayon. Full of flavors of lemongrass and curry leaves, I'd never had anything like it before. We topped it all off with a chocolate flight which we enjoyed with the remaining sample from the red flight. While not the cheapest place in West Chester to grab some dinner, it is one of the more enjoyable. All in all we had a very nice time. read more

Visited for date night. Cool vibes, semi busy Friday night. Arrived for our reservation and seated promptly. 10 minutes pass before our waitress greets us. She tells us she's sorry and goes on to explain how she was having a conversation with her other table about their upcoming vacation. Kinda weird to admit that (also don't care about the details of some random persons vacation) after making us wait that long, but whatever. Then she cards us. I had just turned 32 three days earlier. My Id had expired 1 day after my birthday as Pa ids do. Instead of happy birthday, she goes on to say she can't serve me with an expired Id, and if she were to, "She could be arrested." LOL, ok. My date had really wanted to give this place a try, so I circle back to our apartment and arrive back with my passport. We proceed to order a bottle of wine (cali wine w/ their logo slapped on it) and a cheese and charcuterie plate. The food comes out and it's missing the duck prosciutto we had ordered. There was an extra cheese instead. No biggie, my date informs the waitress, and then she snaps back, "thats what you ordered" without even looking down at our food. Very rude! She proceeds to read back our order and we're like "yea.....that's not what you served us." No apology, she simply has a runner bring out the missed plate. That was the last we saw of her until she brought the check. Waters left empty. Although the food was good, the service was awful. I wanted to like the place but will not be returning for some time. There are countless other restaurants and winery's in a 10 mile radius. In conclusion, after paying 100+ for some wine, cheese and crackers, the whole experience was laughable. Oh well read more

I have a love-hate relationship with this beautiful new tasting room. The wine is very good because it's made in California from California grapes. If you're expecting Pennsylvania wine, you will not get it here and that's a good thing.The tasting room itself is beautiful and comfortable. Service is very good. The staff knows their product. They have actual certified sommeliers walking around talking to you and educating you about what you were drinking as well which is nice. But dude..... The prices. COME ON. Yeah I get your wines are Napa based but your establishment is not. So charging $35 and $40 for a flight is obnoxious. Your bottle prices are very obnoxious too. And then if you want to enjoy a bottle in the tasting room, you tack on an obnoxious corkage fee of $15. That's just a dick, greedy move. I would give this place 5 stars if you lowered your prices and didn't charge a corkage fee to serve your own wine in your tasting room. I would love a place like this to open up near me but not at these prices. The only reason we went back for a second time was because friends wanted to go and they too were clearly not expecting how high the prices were going to be. First, the wine: delicious, every one. But we will never again make the hour plus trip to visit. Our reservation for 6 people was changed from 2:15 to 2:30 by the winery staff for some reason that was not given. One of our party had to leave at 3. At 3:45 four of us had finished our tastings and I ordered a glass of my favorite. Within minutes we were told that our table was needed for a 4:00 reservation and the confirmation email had said 2 hour limit. (It did not, we checked.) Never mind that we had been seated only an hour and a quarter at that time. One of us still had her last tasting glass to finish. We asked to be moved to a different table if they needed our large space. At least half the room and a third of the bar was empty. The server said she'd speak with the manager. He came over, very condescending and rude, and informed us that the expected length of time for our "experience" was 90 minutes. Note that we had still not been there 90 minutes in any event! They refused to bring my glass and my friends were told they could not order the ones they were deciding on. He said he couldn't move us to another table because "every seat" was reserved for 4:00. I could tell the server felt awful about this. We had driven over an hour to visit, and spent almost $400, and this was how we were treated. One of our party had been in food service for years and couldn't believe how this went down. We still left a generous tip for the server, as she and the sommelier were both wonderful. We left within 10 minutes and, no surprise, there were no people waiting for our space, and still the place was almost half empty. I hope it stayed that way.
