The next day I went to pay for the towing and have a local junk yard come and pick it up. (I sold the totaled car to the junk yard.) "I'm here to pay for my towed car," I said, as I walked into their office. Four guys sitting there with their feet up ignore me for about ten seconds, then look at each other, trying to decide who's going to deal with me. Finally one guy, presumably the owner says, "I hope you have the key." "I do. It's the red Toyota. How much is it?" "$300" Me: $300!? Really?" Him: "Well, it was snowing." Me: "So how much would it have been if it wasn't snowing?" Him (making it up as he goes along): "Well, it'd be $300 no matter what." Me: "Oh, 'cause it seems like you implied it was more expensive because of the weather." Him: "I didn't say that. Besides, if you had called Schmidt's or Road Rescue, they would have charged you $500 or $600." (Yes, competitors, Disch is dissing you.) Me: "Wow. $300. I've been driving for 37 years and gotten towed a lot of times, and I don't think I've ever paid more than $120 for towing." Him: "Well, it is what it is." Me: "I'll give you $200, no more." Him: "Cash?" Me: "Yep." Him: "Okay." Use Disch with caution, and don't look like a sucker when you walk in. They'll tow your car, but they'll also take you for a ride.

They certainly had not caused those issues, but it would have been helpull to know. They cost me time from work and money besides. My issue is with how the owner not only answered the phone but continued to speak to me when I was telling him my new dilemma (Im in bankruptcy and have struggled keeping a running vehicle. Ive learned a lot and can do much of the work myself). I have learned enough to know what I don't want to do myself. Mainly because it is now winter in freezing outside and Im without a garage. He never let me finish a sentence and was frustrated when he couldnt get the story straight. Every question he asked was biting and condescending, where if he let me finish and listened he would have had the answers. When he finally got a better picture of the issue he responded with 'I have a hard time believing that.' He went from 'thats not possible' to 'if we had done that' to 'this is what we do when that happens'. It turned into one of the situations where he said too much because he thought I didn't understand what he was saying. Looking at Google and the description-its an absolute lie. All of the part stores in the area know me. By name. And Ive taught the young bucks behind the counter a thing or two. I am smart enough to ask about the things that I don't know and I know how to ask nicely. He'd begrudgingly told me to make it in by 7:15 am to fit me in. Didnt offer the work for free (removing the leaking oil drain plug that they didnt use a crush washer with and is not coming out), didnt go into what could may be done to fix it and what they can offer for any price. I know how to fix it, his customer services was the worst Ive experienced in a long time.

New Costco (for us) located in Verona WI, assuming to take advantage of the growth of the area…read more Has all the stuff that Costco sells, without the crowds. When we left Verona 8 years ago, there were only two Costcos in the area. The west side one in Middleton was very close to work, was a frequent stop for rotisserie chicken for quick dinner plans. This location opened in Verona since then, and is just as large (probably bigger). Like other Costcos, it has a relationship with local businesses to sell their wares. In our case, I wanted a case of Spotted Cow cream ale from New Glarus brewery ($31.49 for a 24 bottle pack). You can't get that outside of Wisconsin, so was a (somewhat) necessity to bring back to our relatives in IL. The inside was large and wasn't too crowded, even on a Saturday afternoon (with plenty of parking), so was able to find what we wanted and get in line. There were a lot of workers giving out free samples, and I was convinced to buying crumbled blue cheese chunks (just because it tasted so good on a spinach salad). Those were our two things, finding a line that we got through quickly. We paid with our membership card/Visa Costco card, and we were on our way.
