I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience with **Turnbridge**\. Our family member spent over 30 days in their care, and from start to finish the entire team was exceptional\. Every staff member we encountered was professional, knowledgeable, patient, and deeply compassionate\. It's clear this is more than a job to them--they truly care about the people and families they serve\. Turnbridge also understands that treatment is a journey for the **entire family**, not just the individual\. The support, communication, and education we received were incredible and will stay with us for life\. What could have been an incredibly difficult time instead became a period of growth, hope, and healing because of their team\. Knowing our loved one was in such caring hands brought us great comfort read more

I spent approximately 19 months at Turnbridge from September 2021 through May 2023. My family paid a substantial amount of money because we believed I would receive safe, professional, trauma-informed treatment. My lived experience was profoundly different. I personally witnessed staff replay CCTV footage of serious client-on-client violence for groups of clients while laughing and mocking the person being attacked. After I was assaulted with a heavy wooden chair at 90 Ford Street, I remember staff later replaying the footage and mocking me for flinching. I also disclosed a sexual-boundary incident involving another client to people in the Turnbridge environment while a staff member was present. I do not recall receiving a formal interview, separation plan, or meaningful protection afterward, and the harassment continued. During an asthma attack, I asked a staff member for my prescribed inhaler and was initially refused because he claimed I was "faking it" and "getting high" from albuterol. My PlayStation 4 also disappeared from a Turnbridge residence, and I do not remember any meaningful investigation, report, recovery effort, or reimbursement process. My intake experience also raised serious concerns. During the drive to Turnbridge, I openly told friends that I believed I was entering a 28-day program. I remember signing contracts at 189 Orange Street before being told by the staff member who transported me that Turnbridge was actually a year-long program. These were not isolated personality conflicts. They raised recurring questions about supervision, medical access, sexual-safety complaints, informed consent, missing property, incident documentation, staff conduct, and how criticism was handled. I have since compiled a detailed evidence memo that distinguishes firsthand experiences from secondhand allegations and identifies records that should exist. Connecticut DPH has opened an investigation into care and services provided by Turnbridge. That investigation is ongoing and is not a final finding. Parents should ask for written answers about incident reports, CCTV access, medical protocols, client grievances, sexual-safety procedures, staff vetting, property-loss policies, expected program length, and what happens when a client says they feel unsafe or wants to leave. Recovery is necessary. Humiliation, indifference, and preventable risk are not treatment. read more

The lack of professionalism and expertise was stunning. I worried that we had been just given a sales pitch to get our child in the door, and in retrospect, that's clear that's all they could offer us. They showed no capacity to understand reactive attachment disorder and instead did the thing that we have seen all too often from inexperienced therapists: a lot of pussyfooting around and making endless excuses for the child's bad behaviors, while assuming the parents were really to blame and treating us as adversaries instead of partners. They refused to believe anything they didn't directly observe themselves even though the child was not at home, in a classroom, unsupervised, or asked much of anything, so if course they weren't going to see how he would show up in other contexts, but even when we shared evidence of a series of poor choices he made right under their noses, they still pretended as though it were nothing. They were entirely incapable of holding him accountable or providing proper supervision to keep him from feeding his technology addiction, and they minimized everything he did, from breaking their rules to harassing teenage girls. They showed their ignorance when they allowed their own hero complexes to get the better of them, genuinely believing that because he seemed charming and cooperative, it was because they were doing such a good job (or that he had no issues in the first place), when, in fact, that's a basic, textbook symptom of RAD -- and, incidentally, of sociopaths, who would take them right in and practice deceiving them as though they were the greenest therapists in suburbia. When they started actively interfering in family connectedness, we pushed back hard, and rightfully so: it's the worst thing to do to a child with RAD and is more likely to exacerbate the problem than anything else. They clearly had no real concern for him, despite their feigned care, since they took him off most of his meds, promising a new neuropsychology evaluation, but they couldn't be bothered to get that done even though he'd been there a month. They were disorganized from the start, and we had to keep pushing for them to even follow through on their most basic promises. When we came for a visit, they decided, just hours beforehand, to kick him out and send him home instead, a day before the scheduled neuropsych eval, probably because they didn't want to have to acknowledge his case as a total and utter failure on their parts. They provided no transition planning at all. They provided our kid nothing more than an expensive vacation. He learned nothing beneficial at all. Don't waste your effort or hope or your child's time at this place. read more

**Turnbridge saved my daughter** My daughter was at Turnbridge for just under two months. Before she went there she was beginning to head down the wrong path. So we decided this program was what she needed to get back on track. In the beginning it was very hard for her to adjust to being there. She kept calling and was crying and said she wants to come home and made promises to change. Myself and my family and her mother encouraged her to hang in there and to try and block out the negativity. She tried to manipulate and come up with statements that weren't necessarily true. She ended up getting a new counselor/clinician quickly and got to work with Alissa. It took her almost a month to get fully adjusted and accept that she needed to really work on what she said she originally went there for which was substance use and also mental health. We began to notice that as time went on she wasn't asking to come home anymore when she made her calls to us each night. Her mood slowly started to improve. She became invested in bettering herself and did the assignments that were asked of her. Both myself and her mom participated in family therapy sessions and we began to notice that she was starting to put the work in to better herself. In addition, she was also learning about herself and how she is around other people. We got word that the treatment team wanted to do neurological testing to get some answers on some behavioral concerns they observed. The results of the neurological testing were a game changer! They showed that my daughter has Autism, which looking back explained a lot about her behavior, but because she masked her symptoms and feelings we couldn't tell for sure. She was accepting of this diagnosis. And now we can figure out how to best support her going forward. My daughter graduated and successfully completed Turnbridge Residential in Woodbury, CT on 9/12/25. Words can't expressed how thankful my family and my ex (her mom) are that she went to Turnbridge. It was rough in the beginning, but she made it through. My parents and my ex (her mom) and their family noticed during the visits how much my daughter has grown and changed for the better. Parents realize that the key for success if they send their child there is for the individual to put the time and effort in and that will bring success. My daughter learned that a lot of the things she was saying about Turnbridge and what was going on were things she was building up in her own mind. Special special thanks and shoutouts go to Justin and Alissa!!! They were and are amazing and caring and wanted my daughter to succeed!!! They helped my daughter so much and gave her skills she can use in the future!!! Thanks to Chelsea for your support as well with everything! Thank you Dr. Minhas, Tammy Platt and Dr. Colwell!! Both Justin and Alissa expressed how proud they are of my daughter with how successful she was while in the program. I've been in the social work field for 24 years and have worked in residential programs in NJ. To parents who are wondering about whether to have your loved one go to Turnbridge for help, definitely give them consideration and a chance. My daughter is now happy and in a better place because of Turnbridge! read more

They have zero control over the clients, who regularly wander off the site and onto private properties in this quiet, residential neighborhood in a rural town. A tremendous amount of taxpayer dollars are regularly wasted when emergency services have to participate in efforts to corral wayward teenagers who have serious psychological and emotional problems. When they wander off, all the staff does is follow them. This often happens at night, and then the clients and the workers are walking along a rural road with no lights where cars are traveling at high rates of speed. In addition, it's hunting season half of the year here, and they also often end up in the State Forest behind the facility, where active hunting with bow and arrow, as well as rifle, is commonplace. On no fewer than three occasions, wayward clients who are looking for someplace to go other than back to the facility have come onto our private property, causing us to install a gate at the end of the driveway. Last night, they decided to bypass the gate, and trespass anyway. Moreover, while standing on my own property, I was screamed and cursed at by a teenage girl who was having an episode. We are made to feel unsafe on our own property by this type of intimidating behavior, which is, indeed, extremely dangerous behavior for all parties involved; and after speaking with the CEO on the phone about it, it's clear that he is in denial about the problem and has no solutions for it. He told me, "they are teenage girls with severe emotional and psychiatric issues, and we cannot put our hands on them. All we can do is follow them when they leave." We live in scary times when we know that wandering up the wrong driveway can have very serious consequences, and I expressed this concern to the CEO. That, too, seemed to fall on deaf ears. He told me, "they are teenagers, and they are going to go where they want to." Hmm, not in my world. It's shocking to me, really, that his attitude is so cavalier--he is knowingly and willfully putting the welfare of the people he purports to be helping and protecting in danger by not having any protocols in place to prevent walk-offs, much less deal with them swiftly and effectively when they do happen. I strongly urge parents to consider these safety concerns prior to registering your kids here. 12/9/24: At 12:17 AM, The CT State Police and True Path began sending out Amber Alerts via phone call, text and email blast to alert of a wayward teenage girl. At 1:30 AM, State Police came pounding on the front door looking for her here --- this is the fourth time this has happened now. It's the overnight of a Sunday into a Monday. The whole house is awake from the chaos, and we're supposed to be able to go back to sleep and function like normal people in a few hours. This is absolutely outside the realm of what would be considered reasonable by any thinking person. I expressed this to the Trooper, who replied, "oh, believe me. I'm right there with you. I have this conversation all the time..." Well, that's just great. What is going to be done about it...? 12/19/24: Ten days later, another walk-off. Today, the person is lying on the side of the road, refusing to get up. There are two black Turnbridge Suburbans on-scene, and a teenager lying half in the street. Of course, no one can touch them, so they are just going to stay lying there as long as they wish. At the same time, there is a hunter actively hunting right now in the forest next to Turnbridge. To boot, this weekend the temperatures are supposed to be in the single digits with windchills below zero. 12/23/24: Sure enough, a client was found on the ground in the swamp across the road from the facility. The temperatures were in the single digits, with windchill values in the negative digits. She was unable to stand up on her own two feet, and had to be carried out. I strongly encourage people to watch the Netflix documentary "The Program." Sometimes when it walks like a duck... 03/17/25: More walk-offs today requiring Police intervention. read more

My son spent two months in Turnbridge and it was a great experience... first it is a beautiful environment.:: clean, and the staff is great and supportive at all times. I was hoping he could spend more time but he wanted to come home for some special events and he felt strong enough. The support there is incredible. Parent support groups are available on a daily basis if necessary. I would recommend this facility without reservation to anyone experiencing addiction problems.. read more

Food is nice, staff are quite interesting... Schooling is horrid, one - two hours a day (two hours only if you plan on skipping fitness time!) not including weekends led me, an honors AP scholar to fall behind on my studies. Psychiatrist put me on meds a few years ago that legit turned me into a zombie. I was so unrecognizable that my family was deeply concerned. A few days after I returned, I even passed out with my head on the table out at family dinner at 5pm! read more

Facts: recommended by Mather LI Social worker Kerrie as only and of course best option for my anxiety depressed sweet sad teen, 16 year old. Total smoke and mirror shit show. Admissions intake sooooooooo smooth !!!! IT IS smooth talking money grab with promise of professional clinical care in safe therapeutic calm environment. NOT safe at all but beautiful. There are not a small group of patients there are MULTIPLES of small houses that are driven to main house where the beautiful photos on website are. Total chaos, lack of care and complete lies within tour (8 min golf being whipped around and shown nothing while Programmed robot lies through her teeth. Total BULLSHIT!!!! My child was in hell Hole for four days: my well cared for kid not cared for at all given no orientation or This is how things work or schedule. Kid just dumped immediately into group which was kids just hanging out eating snacks and doing what they wanted in refusal room. Never told how phone calls worked or day at all seems crazy right ???? Wait for it. MY Teen was wrestled and then body slammed in the first ten mins in "cottage" by another child who wasn't suppose to be in my child's room. Who then asked to take their stuff no staff member cared or intervened. Child was Never given medications first night which I supplied and never even given a towel or idea when to line up for phone or shower or hamper for clothes. Staff was on cellphones and laying about on couch not answering child's questions. My kid kept asking for help. How did we get the info BY getting our kid OUT on day four which they tried to prevent AMA doesn't work That way when you Don't give prescribed meds or means to wash yourself TURNBRIDGE!!!! Kid is doing just Fine my ass. GOT child out after wasting 1000 on travel and losing 400 for "schooling" third day my child was done with chaos and having panic attacks. And demanded to see therapist who was scheduled for FIRST meet following week. Therapist walked kid to a Nurse and left immediately had meetings to get too, or who knows lunch. NP who called me AFTER sedating attack without my permission for Med I didn't supply or was prescribed not How That works by law. There is no data being collected or doctors around or clinicians monitoring children. There are camp like counselors herding kids from spot to spot. The website is total glossy BS and your child will not be safely monitored or cared for at all. No medication dispersed first day. Then medication given without consent that was not supplied by me and my child was not given a towel or time frames for showering no clocks so no idea what and when anything is happening. Trauma was kick started back to peak anxiety after waiting three weeks at Mather for this spot and stable with hope for real attentive help. What you get fancy camp grounds for profit not attentive or safe or professional counseling or therapy service that charges 4 grand a day WITH four grand a day I REPEAT that money goes to the mansion they are building to house more kids right as you pull through gates MONEY MONEY MONEY and you don't get what you pay for here. You are paying salaries of upper management that's all. Social worker at Mather who is ethically responsible for setting up proper care for your child at Hospital Wouldn't even return my phone calls to Let her know to not suggest this place to anyone else guess she got some Kind of kickback. I say TURNBRIDGE will Hopefully be shut down sooner than later as they expand and gloss it up but eventually someone is going to get really hurt I saw a lot of fancy cars there, the people who lie and mislead you sure they don't let you tour or see anything up close because you would then run with your child. If your kid is behavioral maybe a good fit or can fight and protect themselves you don't get kicked out for That either you get extra time added on MY child needed therapeutic calm experience with doctors and clinicians what it was four days of hell with kids verbally cursing and screaming at each other while staff just watches. Also they kept half our belongings I sent up when they packed my child up without telling child we were on our way. On to the next money grab victim. Absolute disgrace for profit NO way this is accredited or regulated CT nor do they have to tell you the truth look at the reviews. All horrifying !!!!!! Would Like to thank TURNBRIDGE for taking three weeks of stabilizing my child inpatient to four hundred steps backwards in four days. Oh and kids with contraband actual Needles giving the old fashion prison tattoo with ink from pens. All that in four days. Sounds worth 16,000???? Ha read more

Im rating this 5 stars so that it will catch your attention. In order to understand what you're truly signing up for, either by checking yourself in or sending your children to Turnbridge, you have to hear an honest fair view of the program. The program could be very positive for some, but you have to understand what the negatives are that could come from something like this. I care about those who are struggling... I empathize, as I've been in a similar state. Please don't check in or send your children based solely on professional reviews made at a surface level. In order to fully understand what the program is you have to have a conversation with someone who will be completely honest, and "pull no punches." If you only hear of the good but won't acknowledge reality, then you're just asking for problems. Please contact me at 337-349-7575 if you're thinking of sending someone here. I want to be able to help you fully understand. read more

The sales presentation and website are impressive. The promises of treatment and living standards was not kept. My son was there for 2 months. Was hoping that any recovery program would have clients waking up and going to sleep at set times. In practice my son who was in bad need of sleep discipline was allowed to sleep in and stay up till any hour he felt like? If they did just this I would be very happy. The place is clean, kitchen has great food. Staff seems to care. The availability of VAPES was also another problem since going to Turnbridge was to teach him about the dangerousness of them. This was goal two that was not fulfilled. Other kids parents would buy them and send their kids back with them after their Sunday visiting time. Maybe Turnbridge will help some kids? I would research fully and see what other options are out there. I hope the owner or manager of Turnbridge reads this and corrects the sleep and vape issues. I would not send my son back. read more

My high functioning Autistic daughter was admitted in Turnbridge to help teach her proper eating, control her weight and stop vaping. She gained 30 pounds in 6 months, was not taught anything about protein and calories and is in a much worse place them when she started. 150K later, the president ignored us and choose to simply say Turnbridge may not be for Hannah. His staff lied to us for 6 months about her weight and he has no answers for us. They will tell you what you want to hear to keep her there another month. The Quality of care was no where near our expectations. They did not keep their word! Do not send your family member there for Eating Disorders, it is a drug and alcohol rehab center. They only want your money, no compassion from upper management! read more

My daughter was being verbally abused by another patient at Turnbridge. She reported the bullying to staff who conducted mediations. During the mediations the bully would apologize and state she would do better, only to continue with the bullying after the mediation. They also had just changed my daughters medications and she was reporting that the medications were making emotional regulation difficult. Turnbridge is very understaffed. My daughter was left alone with the bully. The bully began verbally assaulting my daughter. My daughter, unfortunately, felt that fight (and not flight) was her only protection. Clearly, she made a bad decision and I completely understand why Turnbridge decided to discharge my daughter. What I don't understand is why they discharge patients for physical abuse but not verbal, especially when the other patients there are suffering from mental health disorders and not everyone can tolerate verbal abuse. When they discharge your child they make you immediately pick up the child and refuse to help you find new placement. This is where the issues will begin. PHP programs won't take your child because they didn't finish the residential program. The residential programs won't accept your child because your child now has a bad mark against them. The family is stuck in a loop trying to find care for their child and Turnbridge doesn't care. I tried to reach out to the clinical director to see if they could implement changes with discharge, so future families will not be negatively affected like we were, but they have ignored me. The administration simply does not care about your children and will punish the families if something goes amiss. They do not prevent bullying by other patients. Be wary of sending your children to this facility and look into a facility who handles verbal abuse in the same way they handle physical: by discharging the offender. Other residential programs do assist in helping you find another residential program in case of early discharge. There are better programs out there. read more

I went through the program. This was my first treatment so not a lot to be compared to. Had some issues with it but overall it was a really positive experience. Pros: Majority of staff is in recovery The phase model works really well 12 step oriented (i.e. AA is still a huge part of my life post-graduating) Most residential/living situations are really nice New haven is a nice little city to get sober in, and Turnbridge encourages clients to become a part of the community. I met some great people Learned how to have fun in recovery (lots of activities to take advantage of) Cons: Very expensive, for-profit organization (naturally raises some questions and skepticism among clients and new haven recovery community) Majority of staff is in recovery (in general, alcoholics and addicts are not the most organized and punctual of people) Lack of communication Clinical services are hit or miss (I had a few bad experiences, though there are also some amazing clinicians working there) As a 26 year old who has lived independently, I was there for recovery, not to learn how to be an adult. There are aspects of the program that felt a little juvenile and unnecessary to me, especially in phase II. If parents are paying (95% of the time this is the case), it often feels like case managers treat the parents as the clients and take away the client's autonomy... often hear things like "my parents have drank the turnbridge kool-aid and I'm stuck here" The biggest problem I had: I got some serious pushback when my family and I felt it was time for me to discharge. Possibly some ethical boundaries were crossed but ended up working out in the end and I graduated at 7.5 months with Turnbridge's support and blessing. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to go through Turnbridge, and I can tell they did their best to meet me where I was at and be flexible with what my family and I were looking for. If you are ready to get sober, can afford it, and have the flexibility to take a year out of your life, this is a good place. read more

*Update* I was discharged a year ago today from Turnbridge and just celebrated 3 years sober. I am 33 years old, and attended Turnbridge in 2017. I have been living independently for a year now since graduating from Turnbridge, living in my own apartment successfully. I cannot emphasize the importance of what aftercare at Turnbridge has given me- an ability to cope with medical situations without feeling a need to turn to narcotics and finding alternative pain management, how to get through a rigorous academic or work schedule while still managing my sobriety, dating in sobriety, setting healthy boundaries with family, developing and sustaining connections within the Alcoholics Anonymous program and being of service, and lastly self-care and how to take care of my own personal needs, environment, budgeting needs, etc. Thanks to Turnbridge I was able to get the experience with these obstacles with support before I did these things on my own. I feel strongly that the aftercare piece of critical and I needed every minute I had while at Turnbridge. I did not and I will repeat I did not understand or see this at the time. I did not always enjoy it, but it was what I needed to grow. Often clients who left early will leave a poor review and parents will not understand the "why" for the time piece and why Turnbridge keeps their clients as long as they do. It is not about the money for Turnbridge, it is based on researched, evidence-based statistics that support that the longer one is in aftercare, the higher ones chances are for maintaining lasting sobriety are. I am still in touch with several Turnbridge staff and still after my review a year ago feel very positively about this place. I know personally many Of the professionals who work here and can tell you off hand with 100% certainty that this is not job a job for them. Most Turnbridge staff do their job because either they themselves have been personally affected by addiction or known someone close to them who has and feel they want to fight this addiction epidemic. I think the concept of aftercare can be misunderstood by both clients and parents of clients who write reviews- I have learned in order to maintain lasting sobriety I've often had to do things I didn't want to do, had to accept truths about me that I didn't want to accept, and have had to hear feedback that I didn't want to hear. Also I did not know what was best for me at a year sober. I write this review again because I think it can be easy for one to "quit before the miracle." And assume a program doesn't work. I think Turnbridge is looking at the larger picture of sustainable recovery which often times in the short term may not seem to make sense, and will often times only make sense in retrospect when you realize you have sober time under your belt and that the time and money was well spent. Turnbridge wasn't easy, but I have found that countless people who have gone through Turnbridge who are successfully living the sober life usually also followed the recommendations of the clinical team, and stayed the clinically recommended amount of time and only left when it was recommended. I followed the advice of the professionals at Turnbridge. I had to be patient and didn't always get what I wanted, but because I hung in there I can now say it has paid off. Thank you Turnbridge again I am forever grateful. World class staff. read more

Manipulative. They just want your money, they will brainwash parents about their children. The clients voice is never heard. Full of lies, drama, and zero confidentiality. You are lied to the minute you step into the place when they don't tell you how long the program actually is. Some of the staff are helpful but the higher ups just want to keep you there for as long as possible. If you are paying in full, not on a scholarship, prepare to be stuck there for even longer. You'll write down phone numbers from your phone when you get there and they will never give them back to you, so you have no contact with anyone on the outside in phase 1. They go through your phone constantly once you finally get it back. They punish you for refusing medications. It is nearly impossible to AMA even if you are above 18. Staff will talk about other clients to other clients. I was thought to be mentally ill when I was there, but really it was just the place driving me crazy. They breathe down your neck and watch your every move. No one there actually wants to be there, so you are constantly surrounded by negative influences. It may work for some people, the concept of the program itself sounds ideal for transitioning back into society. But in my experience, the longer I was there the more I drove myself crazy. You have to put on a fake face and give them what they want, even if it's not beneficial to you in order to get out. read more

Turnbridge admitted our son, then misdiagnosed his mental health issues, overly prescribed him a whole host of medication, and then made us feel like dirt when we pulled our son out of the program because it was not working. Turnbridge was much more interested in our money than in helping our son. My son left last July. Not only am I thrilled that we pulled him out, I am kicking myself for enrolling him in the first place. read more

Turnbridge saved my life and led me on a path so that I could get my career back. I attended TB from June 2016- November 2017. This was not as easy journey but well worth my time. Did I want to be there initially? No! Slowly, I acclimated to the girls in the house and the professionals that were willing to do anything to save my life. I truly benefitted from the long-lasting friendships I made, IOP, recreation activities, meetings, and the education I received from ever single staff member about the disease of addiction. Seeing as this is a family disease, family therapy allowed my parents and me to connect while having a mediator. This was imperative to my family. After being there for 17 months, I can honestly tell you how much Turnbridge cares for your actual well-being and will do just about anything to help you succeed and be the best version of yourself that you can be. read more

Honestly my experience at Turnbridge wasn't all bad to say the least, but the bad parts definitely overshadowed most of the good. Let me begin by saying there are only very few employees that want what's best for the clients. I went to turnbridge in April 2019 and "graduated" the program in November 2020. I will say Turnbridge did completely change my life and I am a very different person today. Its a shame that companies like Turnbridge manipulate vulnerable parents and children into going and keeping them until they have all the money they need from you. The main purpose of this post is to hopefully get the attention of the parents reading the reviews about where they want to send their kids. Let me make is very clear Turnbridge is one of the worst possible choices you could send your kid or loved one. As a former client and being in this program for over a year... it's not like the website... it's honestly really sad how much this program has gone downhill and has become extremely apparent that they are only in it for the money. My best advice is if you do choose to send your loved one here make sure to not buy into there manipulation. I could go on for another 20 minutes about this place, but it's not worth it because this place is already going under and with high hopes will be out of business soon. If you want anymore information please feel free to reach out! read more

I do not recommend this facility to anyone other than teens who need to learn how to be an adult. Turnbridge lies not only to patients and parents, but have even blatantly admitted it, saying "well if we told them how things really work, 95% of the girls wouldn't come." That seems highly unethical to me. Pros: We went to some decent AA meetings The lower level staff are all amazing The individual therapists are excellent as well as the clinical office staff The APRNs are excellent- However DO NOT be fooled by the admissions people who tell you that you/your children are overseen by a psychiatrist, because they are not. Cons: The upper level staff act in unethical, deceitful, and disrespectful ways. I have seen them cuss out young girls many times in very inappropriate ways, demeaning and infantalizing them Client concerns were not taken seriously. Several people had valuables stolen and nothing was done about it. Same with vandalizing and bullying. Parents and clients were discouraged at all costs to communicate, and during "family meetings" clients and parents were coached on what to say and the clients were hustled off in about 2 minutes. There was no mediation. I never met either the family therapist or family liaison. The IOP does not have a true DBT program. Due to a lack of staffing, many of the amenities they "offer" do not exist. The gym and art room are never open more than an hour or two a week. Several recreational activities were cancelled due to low staff. Their claim of a 2:1 staff ratio is untrue. There are 30 women in the house, average age of 19 and average drug of choice being heroin. There is constant drama and conflict, and several girls relapsed during my time there, often in the house itself endangering everyone else around them. The case managers and director are far too busy to sit down and talk with you, and do not follow through on requests as they typically forget that you made them. They refused to release my health insurance card info to me without providing a reason other than "you don't need it." They refused me access to my medical records. The refused me access to the documents I signed upon arriving at TB- a violation of patient rights. There was an agreement made between my previous program, my parents, and Turnbridge that my stay would only be for a month, however when I tried to leave I was seriously harassed and had every avenue of contacting the outside world taken away from me, including a phone. No one spoke with me about aftercare, I was simply told, "you can't leave, we have your debit card so what are you going to do? You can't do anything." They refused any aftercare planning, leaving me without medications and if I hadn't gone behind their backs and had them transferred, I would have gone through withdrawals." When I did leave I was refused possessions such as my phone, license, bank card, and even my journals which the Director took and locked in her office. Turnbridge then lied to my parents and said that staff escorted me to my friend's car when I left, which was absolutely false. I grabbed two trash bags of clothes and walked out while staff tried to stop me. When I called BS my parents called back to verify, another staff member answered and remarked that I HAD left without anyone or any help. It was just absurd, all of it. I understand the need to keep clients from leaving whenever they want with all their money from a liability standpoint. However, they should honor agreements made with clients and their families and make sure the client is safe when they leave, not alone on the streets of New Haven with nothing but a trash bag of clothes. Overall, day to day life was uncomfortable and unproductive to my treatment. I say this coming from a background of a Master's of mental health, an adult who has lived on their own for a long time, and someone who was looking for a one month stay at a nice facility in order to combat suicidal ideation, not somewhere that would make me MORE depressed. The entire situation was surreal and essentially a 2 million dollar jail. read more

Please do not send your loved ones here if you really care about them. First off, admissions lies to kids about the length of stay, I was told 3 months and when I arrived learned it was 1 year, if you're lucky. I asked my case manager why this was and he told me that's how it works with every rehab in the country. I asked the admissions director why he lies to the kids and he told me to my face that 90% of kids would not come if they knew it was a year. So they're selling a product (a very very expensive product) that if 90% of people knew what it actually was, wouldn't want it. TB drove a wedge between me and my parents and completely destroyed our relationship. If you had a bad relationship with your parents before coming here, it's going to stay that way. And if you had a good relationship with them, you have to work insanely hard to keep it that way. The groups are a joke, and for being a addiction treatment program, there isn't a lot of addiction treatment. Most kids have no interest in being there because they were forced to come and lied to about the length, and many have absolutely no interest in being sober, and they're very open about it. The phase directors and higher-ups get bonuses for the amount of beds that are filled, so they will find any excuse to keep you there as long as possible even though they know it's wrong. Basically, it's money first, and being helpful second. They will find any reason they can to convince parents that their kid needs to stay longer. After a certain point they are damaging kids by keeping them there as long as they do, and it's toxic for them and their families. Do not listen to these people, this is the real experience of me being there and it really messed me up and messed my family up. If you really love your kids, please DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. read more

I came through this program. It is a 3 phase model program that most people stay at for a year. First two phases are helpful. Phase 1 of this program does a good job of detoxing and actually providing good groups in the form of IOP and individualized counseling. Phase 2 does a good job helping the patient reintegrate into society and helps them look for and find a job, as well as learning how to balance the job with his/her own recovery and volunteer commitments. This is also the phase where a client can decide to further his/her education. The facility also has educational consultants on staff that do a great job helping the client get signed up for classes. Now for the negative. After the first 3-4 months of the program you will move to phase 3 of the program, where your expected to stay the next 8+ months. Phase 3 is akin to a standard overpriced sober living. The problem is that many clients have now gotten into a good work and recovery routine, school, ect... And they now have all these trivial rehab commitments and curfews that it becomes more of an annoyance to remain in a program that is no longer offering the same level of counseling/individual therapy as was offered in the first 2 phases of the program. Many people in phase 3 of the program were getting high in the program and m even when busted these clients were allowed to remain in the program, even those who had repeatedly relapsed and brought down others with them.. Phase three of this program is not helpful at all and may actually be detrimental to your loved ones recovery. The director of this phase is a power hungry, sadistic, non trust-worthy recovering addict who clearly needs to take a real look at his own program. His right hand man and co founder of the program John Palmer has been caught drinking and this was swept under the rug and denied for months while I was there. New guy Tom M seems to mean well and care about the clients but being the new guy doesn't seem to be able to fix the corrupt money hungry system that is already in place. Overall- it can be helpful. Especially the first 2 phases of the program. Good for a 2-3 month stay. Don't let them talk you into keeping your loved one longer than this. The "sober living" part of the program is a joke and can be harmful and maybe even cause more trauma and depression for your loved one. read more

My son, at the time 24 years old, entered Turnbridge (then Turning Point) for help in 2015. It was a very difficult decision, in large part because we understood that it would be a longterm stay. We had done a lot of research prior to choosing Turnbridge and understood that a longterm stay would be necessary to truly help him change his life. My son is now 2 years 2 months sober. The guidance he received at this program was invaluable in helping him to achieve this goal. He had three incredible Case Managers, for the three phases of the program. They were available to us 24/7 when we had questions or just needed to talk. We receive constant support as his parents from Lauren Springer, the Family Liaison. Addiction is a family illness, and we, his family, were helped as much as he was. My son quickly bought into the 12-Step program and principles, and slowly but surely, reclaimed his life. He went on ski trips, sporting events, and movies to help him learn how to have sober fun. He made true, true friends. He got a job, then a second job, and then a third job! He learned how life could be. It was not an easy time for any of us, but Turnbridge saved my son's life, and helped make it bearable for me to go through such a difficult time, knowing that I had all the support I needed, and that he was in the best of hands. read more

I have been a client at Turnbridge for about eight months now. Through the period of time that I've been receiving treatment here, my quality of life and perspective on living have gone under a profound and powerful change, which I singlehandedly owe to this program and all it lives for and strives to instill in its clients. When I arrived at Turnbridge I was lost, I had no sense of direction and had fallen into a deep depression prompted by my drug and alcohol abuse and downward tract of behavior that was slowly but surely spiraling out of control. I walked in scared and unsure, wary of this next step I was about to embark upon. Right away, I was met with a level of love and compassion that I never knew could come from a group of strangers. Those fears I had slowly started slipping away as I got used to being surrounded by sober women who were all fighting for a common goal, to achieve health and happiness through a program of recovery and action. The staff who work at Turnbridge are unmatched by any other treatment professionals I've come across. They genuinely care about each and every one of us and go out of their way to attend to our individual needs and goals for treatment and success. I have never met a team of people who are so dedicated to seeing their clients succeed and are willing to go to any lengths to help us reach a life beyond our wildest dreams. There is support coming from all angles and you are made to never feel alone or isolated on this journey. I strongly admire all of the staff members of the Turnbridge program; they are solid and inspiring examples of what one can achieve and become by living by the spiritual principles that are brought into our daily lives here. Turnbridge has saved my life in more ways than one. It has given me the confidence and self-love to go out into this word as a sober woman of grace and dignity. It has given me the ability to have healthy and productive relationships, it has provided me with an endless pool of support and resources, and most of all, has allowed me to start believing that I can achieve anything I put my mind to and work towards. I am eternally grateful for Turnbridge and will never forget all this program has done and continues to do for me. read more

My son has been in this program for a year now. He is a different person. He is working, getting ready to start school and free from depression. My son is sober, clear headed and involved with AA. Turnbridge has been so supportive and involved in his changes. I'm so proud of all the work he has done but Turnbridge lead the way. They saved his life and I am so grateful to them. If you have a loved one struggling with drugs, Turnbridge is the program for them. They really do care and the program really works! read more

My son went all the way through Turnbridge. We had tried some rehab options here at home. Nothing in St. Louis compares to this long-term program. A heroin addiction cannot be addressed properly in 120 days, or even a few months, as I learned the hard way, even if the addict has a desire to recover. Dumping him or her back into the same crappy environment in white-knuckle sobriety doesn't seem like a good answer. This long-term commitment paid off for our family. One of Turnbridge's real claims to excellence, in my view, is that the young people are immersed in positive, fun recreational activities almost immediately. The counseling and support personnel are fantastic, to be sure, and no rehab facility can succeed without them. But there's nothing like sending your hollowed-out child away, and then within a very short time seeing him replaced with a happy, hopeful young man who declares, "I didn't know I could have so much fun and not be high." Of course, that was only the beginning of his recovery, but I think if he hadn't gotten this positive experience right off the bat, the success might not be there. It was a long haul after that. Getting a job, receiving a bachelor's degree -- those were just pipe dreams at one point when keeping him alive to fight another day was all I could hope for. The environment is crucial, and giving these youngsters a beautiful setting and meaningful experiences cannot be underestimated. Turnbridge isn't cheap, but my son has his life back. He just got married to a wonderful girl, who we all love, and is very happy. There isn't enough thanks in the world for me to properly express my gratitude to David Vieau and this wonderful organization. read more

As a parent, overall, I would say they do a pretty good job. And by no means should my following comments deter anyone from the program itself. However, an awareness of the following should be taken into consideration. Initially we were led to believe that the program could cost as much as $85-100K. However, it turned out to be closer to $125k. There is a major effort on the part of upper management to have clients stay to the end of their full program, but it's very wise for the parent or guardian to monitor the progress closely on their own and not necessaily Turnbridge's pursuasive effort for the client to stay longer than may be necessary. Ie; there comes a point in time when the possibility of "the law of diminshing returns" kicks in and can become counter-productive. Included within this context, there is a constant effort on the part of management to make client programs longer and adding parent programs that are quite costly and may also be unnecessary. Additionally, what would have been expected but never happened, were follow-up contacts from Turnbridge to the parent. The impression is that the parent or contact is dropped once Turnbridge is no longer receiving program fees. That's a shame. read more

I visited TurnBridge as a mental health professional touring treatment options for my young adults who struggle with addiction issues. I was so impressed with the commitment and knowledge of the staff. Everyone I met was deeply invested in client care. The success of the program was well-reflected in the number of program graduates who returned to work at TurnBridge to mentor and support incoming clients. TurnBridge also understands how to provide support and education for residents' families. I was especially impressed by their 24/7 parent advocate. When I visited, the men's program director was looking forward to a ski weekend with a group of TurnBridge guys. I loved seeing his excitement to hang with residents from the program, and TurnBridge's commitment to finding vitality in a recovery lifestyle. read more

I have been in Turnbridge since June 8th, 2020. I "ran" on July 10th 2021. When I say I ran, I had a sober house lined up to move into the next week which is the decision I thought best for my recovery. Turnbridge however did not agree with it. Leaving, I did not expect my parents to be happy with me, however I did not expect to hear that tunbridge told my parents I am in danger and HAVE to come back. Only two staff members reached out to me to make sure I was safe in the first 3 days. Besides the whole situation with me running away, Turnbridge is not a good choice for you to send your loved ones too. Before I arrived at Turnbridge, my mental health was horrible and I was using primarily weed, acid, and Xanax. After almost 13 months of being there, my mental health was on its last legs and I was at my breaking point. The support staff that work there are amazing. Out of all 3 case managers I had, 1 I am still in contact with and the other is nice but nice doesn't always get the job done. They pay their staff members minimum wage which is not enough to be dealing with the disrespect given by some clients. Also, if you are looking for a place for someone you love or yourself to be treated for an eating disorder, Turnbridge is not it. I cannot count on my fingers or toes how many times I was told, "eat healthier","lose weight", or "just don't eat as much". I would also like to point out that in my time there, I came to be in a relationship with a past client. I was told multiple times that she was dealing drugs and called her names like a predator. When I relapsed in phase 3, STAFF spread a rumor saying I was dealing drugs out of my house given to me by her. Staff spread that. Not clients. In my opinion, that is extremely inappropriate and unprofessional and within the month and a half I have been out of tunbridge, my friend was raped and did not want anybody to find out except her case manager and her friends. Almost 2 weeks after it happened Staff around all 3 houses found out because one staff member went from person to person spilling my friends business. Long story short, if you value your relationship with your family member, and you want them to recover and get better this is not the place or environment you want to send them too. Im not writing this because I hate Turnbridge (even though I do), I just don't want anybody else to go through what me or any one of friends has gone through in our experiences there. read more

The program at Turnbridge was invaluable for our 20 year old son. The clinicians, case managers and house managers provided compassion, guidance and advice and helped him develop life skills, strategies and tools to help him implement structure and discipline and to cope with his emotions and ups/downs of life. The professionals at Turnbridge are all in recovery and really understand the process their clients are going through and what they need to move forward. We will be forever grateful for the people at Turnbridge and the amazing progress they helped our son accomplish. read more

I consider Turnbridge one the of top Recovery/Wellness centers in the country. I came into the program struggling in many different areas and (productivity and drug abuse) unable to handle the daily tasks life threw at me. I left about two weeks ago now and have become the most productive and motivated person I've ever been, thanks to the hard work I've put in but not without the guidance and support of the program. The program is about 1 year long depending on your situation but in all honesty long term treatment centers in my opinion are the most effective. 30-90 rehabs don't allow someone to fully experience all of life's demands and have a safety net to do so. There are 3 phases to the program. Phase 1 your are living in a beautiful home where you honestly don't feel like your in a treatment center, although you are closely supervised by staff they are extremely friendly and I'd prefer this instead of staying in a hospital. Your days are filled with groups, meetings and fun activities as well. There is a basketball court, a nice sized lawn to toss the football and tv's in every room. You are given a case manager who you meet with often to work on areas to improve yourself, not only externally but more importantly internally as well. Every night you taken to AA/NA meetings, New haven is filled with them. There you are suggested to acquire a sober network to branch out and get to know other sober people in the community. Now living with about 20 other guys who are recovering and have their own issues can but frustrating but through it I made some incredibly strong friendships and have fond memories of phase 1. After about a month or so if you work hard enough and follow the guidelines staff has given you, you will move on to phase 2. Here you are given more freedom than phase 1. You still have a case manager and are allowed to go out for a few hours in the day and are encouraged to look for a job. For me I needed this, I was still struggled with motivation and with this push I was able to stay productive and find a job within a few weeks. With the program, a job and meetings you become busy. I started to feel as though I could take on more tasks and was able to handle my emotions without the use of drugs/alcohol. Around 4 weeks you'll move into an intermediate phase (2.5) where you are granted some more freedom but still expected to abide by the guidelines of phase 2. About two weeks later Phase 3 comes along. This is a big step since you are allowed out for almost if the day. By this time you are given the tools from the program and 12 step recovery to stay grounded. I filled my time with the gym, my job, meetings, and hanging out with friends in the program. Phase 3 is where you really get to experience what you have gained since arriving at the program. You still meet with your case manager and have major support all around you. I was able to go through tough times and was able to use the knowledge I had gained and lean on others to push through and come out stronger the other side. The work doesn't end in phase 3, it in way begins, you learn being back in the world what you need to work on and are constantly finding ways to progress in all areas of life. Turnbridge is filled with people who genuinely care about your well being, well at times I didn't understand some of their reasoning I realized they had much more experience in the field and are professionals. I learned to go along with the program, did what they asked of me and trusted them. In doing so it has changed the course of my life in a positive way. I finally feel as though I can handle anything life throws at me and can do so sober. read more

I believe that Turnbridge has the right tools in the program to help battle addiction. As someone who comes from an home with an addict, I think this program would have helped my loved one stay on the correct path. Everyone has their own way of coping with this disease and I believe that Turnbridge can help in someone's time of need. I think the length of the program is great. I don't believe that someone has the tools they need after a short term program to change and gain the tools they need to recover successfully. read more

My son graduated from the Turnbridge program in November. He is a different young man because of his time there. They really worked on not only the addiction but the underlying psychological and emotional aspects of his addiction. I had a scared, irritable addict on my hand when he started the program and he is now more confident of himself, mature and has even been hired by Turnbridge as Phase 1 and Phase 2 support staff. I couldn't be more proud of him and happier that he has decided to stay in an environment that is so supportive and professional. All of the staff are very impressive and I can't say enough about how great the communication was during my son's program. read more

I have been to multiple treatment centers throughout my addiction and this was by far one of the best programs I have ever come across. The staff was very welcoming and kind. I had an exceptional experience throughout my time at each of the phases (three in total). The facilities are all of the highest caliber. They just recently opened up their women's program. If you or someone you know needs help I would highly recommend you at least taking a look into the Turnbridge program. This program saved my life, along with a number of my friend's lives, and I am forever grateful for that. read more

I own an intensive outpatient and detox program for late adolescents in West Hartford CT. I've been in the field 40 years at all levels of care. I've referred late adolescent males to Turnbridge. The program is long enough with different levels of care to address the development problems that always occur with early onset of substance abuse. I recently followed up with the mother of a 18 year old I referred 2 years ago. A complex case. She was appreciative of the care her son received. Today J is clean and sober. Was it a rocky road? Certainly! But this is the most "damaged" population of teens we have seen in mental health delivery systems. Parents, with the best of intentions, tend to over-parent (Helicopters) leaving adolescent children with inadequate life skills. I referred a family 2 weeks ago. My reputation hangs in the balance when I make referrals. I'm careful where I send kids and families I care about. read more

I would NOT recommend this place at all if you identify as queer, LGBTQIA, transgender, non-binary, or a BIPOC. Turnbridge is a luxury, but money does not buy long term sobriety or happiness. I graduated this program after 2+ years out of my own desperation for recovery, but not without a lot of trauma and hardships due to TB's lack of inclusivity, diversity, and accountability. read more
