I dropped in to see if they could repair an old turntable. Bob was more than helpful. The brand of turntable I had was not one he worked on and immediately referred me to two local repair shops. Then as I looked around, he took me on a tour of his mini museum of turntables and audio equipment. Bob and his shop are worth the trip! It is old school and part of a time when people went to their local stereo store. Actually, while I was there a gentleman walked into the shop and mentioned that he used to visit the shop every week when he was in college. Good stuff! He also sells Denon, Yamaha and Music Hall stereo equipment. Don't expect a big box or a high end audiophile store. Expect a shop that's been around for 60 years and a sole proprietor that has been there and seen that. It's a great resource, don't miss it. read more

I called in about an AudioTechnica TT and he said he couldn't discuss the products over the phone. I insisted that I needed to know if he at least carried it as I didn't want to waste my time since I was pretty dead set on getting that specific model. He eventually told me he had it and I headed over. The store is pretty small, but it's right next to a used vinyl place which is convenient. We talked about it and he told me that I would need more than just a TT. I'm pretty ignorant to this type of thing since I'm just now trying to get into it and I'm under the age of 50. He was really well informed and helped me figure out what it was exactly that I needed. If I ever do get a TT I'll take it in to Bob to get it fixed. The prices were marked up pretty high. The TT I was looking for was the AudioTechnica LP60 which he was selling for $120, the retail value of this table is $99 virtually everywhere else (Frys', Amazon, Musician Friend). The biggest thing that turned me off from buying here was that he didn't have a return policy. He told me he would help me set it up and test it in the shop, which was nice, but if you're going to charge 20% over retail AND refuse returns it's a no-go for me. His inventory is expensive, but it's a small shop so I guess I can some what understand. I saw about 6-7 different model TT's when I went down. He also does repairs, which is good to know in case I ever need someone to fix something I find at a garage sale or thrift store. Overall, it's a decent shop and the owner is VERY knowledgeable, but if you're looking for good prices and somewhere with a return policy I would say go to Frys or buy online. read more

This is a small store run by a sole proprietor who has been in the retail stereo industry for 60 years. This is not a big box store or a high end audiotique. Bob is an expert on how to match current components with older components and how to match older components. He also has a handful of new items for sale - Yamaha, Denon and others. However, the selection or rock bottom prices are not why you go to Turntables Unlimited. Bob, the owner, is an audio expert who has more experience in the industry than just about anyone in town. He is an advisor for music lovers. The store is also a mini museum of audio and hifi over the decades. Visit to learn, and to buy if it makes sense for you. But as others have said, don't make the trip expecting a wide selection, clearance prices, a fancy store or slick salespeople. read more

Do you like to DJ, could care less about NUDE V's BONDED, have no clue what Conical, Bi-Radial, or Fine Line mean, just want it to go BOOM BOOM BOOM??? Well, if that sounds like you, Turntables Unlimited is THE place to be. However, if you know that Nude is superior to Bonded or that the better the profile of the styli, the better the tracing and tracking...STAY AWAY from this place. Prices on junk entry level equipment and styli are just DUMB! Also, for someone with 40 years in the business, why would he try to tell me that a bonded bi-radial tip is better than a Nude Linear Contract styli? read more

Hours said open at 11:00 am. So I went today, Tues, at 12:30 pm and it was closed with a clock saying will return at 3:00 pm. I have made other attempts to purchase when they were closed during normal business hours. Not sure how this person stays in business so long with being closed so often and you cannot leave a message. Turntables Unlimited is about as good as it gets. Best customer service I've had in the field. The owner kept his shop open an hour after he was supposed to close just to make sure i was completely set up and happy with my purchase. I enjoyed that as he was fixing my turntable, he explained everything that he was doing and why. Very knowledgeable and very thorough. I looked on the Grado website, and there were only two authorized dealers in Sacramento. The other guy had more reviews but were mixed. I opted for this location instead, and was very happy that I did. Very nice older gentleman picked up the phone, and told me my desired headphones were in stock, and quoted me a price. When I showed up, he was be very polite with the previous customer while we looked around the store which was filled with vintage turn tables. It appears this place has been in the business for decades. I bought my headphones, and had a very pleasant chat with the gentleman. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and gave me exactly what I wanted, plus some information that I didn't even know I wanted yet at the time. He wasn't pushy at all like some sales oriented places are, and he wasn't in a hurry to rush us out of the store after the sale either. I couldn't ask for more, and am extremely glad that I gave this place a shot. When I need to buy/repair my turntables and accessories, I know exactly where I will be going. read more

This was our third stop of the day trying to purchase a decent turntable set up for our living room. I'm glad we didn't give up before we got to Turntables Unlimited. The prices were great and the owner spent a lot of time demonstrating the systems for us. He listened to what we said we were looking for and didn't try to upsell us into a system we didn't need. This is not a modern store. This guy is old school and knows his business. If you have a record player and want to have it repaired this is the guy to go to. He is professional and courteous. He is in no way teying to take advantage of people, he knows his stuff and that's that. My 20+ years old record player is back up and running and he was kind enough to just fix it and charge me for the part. I will be back if it breaks again! read more

On the other hand: I was a happy customer of Turntables Unlimited in the 70's and 80's. I moved away. I came back early this year. So good I came back three times in a two week period. (Seventy miles each round trip. Gas way over $3.50/gal.) Polite? Enormously. Knowledgeable? Ditto. Reasonable prices? YES! Successfully in business this long--what would you expect? I have been doing business with Turntables Unlimited for nearly 40 years. I have had at least three different music systems purchased from them. (Even the 4-Channel System-lol) I was in their shop in the early 70's when Paul Klipsch came into their store to ask them to handle the Klipsch line of speakers. Since then - it been only Bob Dolezal at Turntables Unlimited for all my music needs. I have found Bob to be extremely helpful and very honest in his dealings with me. The owner Bob tried to pull a fast one. I came here with my recently deceased fathers Sony PSX-7 turntable to findout what it would take to get it back into tip-top shape for my mom. Aesthetically the table was perfect, but the direct drive was having trouble turning the patter. After paying the "diagnostic" fee ($20), Bob (the owner & Turntable expert of 40+ years) proceeded to tell me how the table was past the point of repair and that it wasn't worth anything, BUT he said that if I wanted to donate it to what he calls his "grave yard" or "museum" of old turntables he has at his store, he would give me a free cartridge with the purchase of a new table. I told him I needed to check with the moms to see what she wanted to do. I left, went to another shop, and low and behold all it needed was $5 in grease on the direct drive to get up and running again (the table is 40 years old and grease does tend to dry up). The table now works flawlessly again. I discovered that the Sony PSX-7 is not a table with little to no value like Bob tried to convince me. It is well constructed, an auto play setup, with direct drive, has a rare carbon fiber tone arm, and gel filled feet. This is all around a solid table that will last forever if you keep it greased, which is why it still fetches a good price on the open market (something bob the owner knew). Needless to say I'm more than disappointed that this seemingly nice old man Bob, tried to scam me and my family. Of course he knew what he was doing if he's been in the turntable industry for 40+ years. Steer clear of this scammer. read more

What! I can't help you with your turntable! Is this not TURNTABLE UNLIMITED! The guy was so rude and critical of my purchase of an Empire TT. He would not even mount my cartridge for me! Something to the effect that no one was still alive to help me, due to its age? So I called Stereo Advisor, guess what, come on over! The on switch on my turntable was not working, so I took it in for either a repair or to trade up to a new one. The store was closed early, but Bob saw me outside and opened up for me. He was able to fix the problem in about 10 minutes. When I asked him what I owed him, he said "no charge." And that was after he stayed late just to accommodate me! The turntable is one I bought from him a few years ago (well beyond the warranty), and when I'm ready for a new one, Turntables Unlimited is the only place I'll look. read more

Came to buy a new needle for my turntable today. The owner spoke to me through his chain locked security door. I showed him the needle assembly which was broken and asked him if he had any in stock.....he replied "ya I have them"....I said great I'lll take one....he then says "I'm not a parts warehouse....you bring me the turntable and I inspect it and I'll install it here to make sure it works"...ya and a nice hefty installation fee too I'm sure..I told him the turntable works perfect it just needs a needle which clips right on the end of the cartridge....takes two seconds....can I just buy the needle....the reply "I told you I'm not a parts warehouse"....so I turned around and walked away only to hear a sarcastic "BYE!" behind me...I ordered one online and installed it myself in two seconds...works great...this guys business model is hard to believe....let money and an easy sale walk away......stay away from this place....this guy has a screw loose.....bye. read more
