Get your cycling cleats on, get on yer bike and ride directly to Turramurra Cyclery - if you enjoy being patronised and condescended to in the one riveting conversation! I need to preface this review by stating that I am a BUYER not a SHOPPER. I don't go to the shops to look around at things I cannot afford to buy. I've never seen the point in that slow water torture. I go to the shops to purchase what I want when I can afford it. I'm already sold. I'm here to purchase not to look around. I'm a conversion; a sale; a figure in your accounting book; money in your till. It is with this mindset that I entered Turramurra Cyclery (fistful of cash in hand) on a mission to just buy a damn pair of Shimano R087 road shoes for spin class. I was greeted by the owner; or the man purporting to be such. I excitedly told him what I was after, waving the $150+ in his face and saying gimme gimme gimme! I just wanted to get the right size, the cleats, and be on my way. But... my intentions were foiled, by a man hell-bent on delivering an agenda to school me on cycling. So, when I explained what the shoes were for (spin cycle class) he said "Oh no! you can't use them for that, they are road shoes for a road bike". I had anticipated this, and had a quick quip ready, "Sure you can, my gun female instructor wears the equivalent womens road shoe with road cleat". "She'll be wearing mountain bike shoes" he replied matter-of-factly. I brought up a photo of the bottom of her shoe. Clearly road shoes, and clearly road cleats. He didn't like that. Unwilling to accept the photo as evidence of me being right and unable to accept defeat he continued with "Just because you have a photo of a road shoe doesn't mean she wears them on the bike." "Ummm, yes, she does, I took the photo 5 seconds after she hopped off the bike. I asked her to take the shoe off for me so I could take a photo of it. For just this very situation." I beamed as I went over-the-top Stallone-style for the winz0r! He continued his defiant refusal to believe me, even when I explained that the bikes take both mountain and road cleat. "No they don't" he snorted derisively, "you can only wear mountain bike shoes on spin cycles" By this point I'd had enough, with one-eyebrow raised in emphatic fashion and a slight querying head-tilt, I simply stated "It doesn't matter what you think about cycling shoes... know your role and shut your mouth!" ... No, wait! I WISHED I had done that... I was berating myself on the train ride home for not lambasting him in that epic tone. So anyhoo, he didn't like this knowledge and tried instead to sell me what looked like a ridiculously expensive and hideously ugly hiking shoe that had cleats on the bottom... I'd have rather worn Ugg Boots on the bike. I responded to him "ahhh dood im not going trekking through the Himalayas, I'm sitting on a bike in a dimly lit room". After much to-ing and fro-ing I put all my cards on the table with one final desperate appeal "Mate! Please, I just want the r087, in the size you've shown me with the road cleats, here's the cash, then I will get out of your hair!" And get this... ... he refused to sell the shoes to me. Ummm why? He gave no reason. I wasn't demanding, surly or rude (and he was all 3 - though I was cheeky as hell, can't help that hahaha). He offered me the alternatives of the uber ugly hiking shoe, or the ultra ugly mountain bike shoes... both of which were two-to-three times the price of what I wanted, and WEREN'T what I wanted. But he would not sell me the road shoes. This seemed like a well-rehearsed spiel, like he gives this speech several times daily in keeping with his patronising proclivities --- and don't you just LOOOOOVVVVEEEE a know it all? Especially one who you could not only thrash on a bike, but do so blind folded. So I walked out with his $150 sale (he woulda made an easy ~$120 shoes + ~$30 cleats if he just let me buy instead of talking) and went home. The next day I took his free sizing, went online and purchased the shoes and cleats together for under $100 with free shipping from Wiggle. My recommendation right now is to use Turramurra Cyclery as a free sizing shop and to buy your gear elsewhere. Unless of course you enjoy being patroscended, condersized and every other "I'm better than you and know more" idiosyncratic self-aggrandising personality trait you can think of from a know-it-all know-nothing clown. read more

Bike given back with Stages Power meter installed. Cost $800. Went for a ride. Garmin 1030 saying average power 5 watts for 30 km medium hard ride. while riding at 30 km/hr on the flat garmin saying average power is 5 watts. Took bike back to shop explaining power meter not communicating with garmin. Shop has bike for 2 days. No message to say bike ready so call bike shop. Bike shop says bike fixed. Arrive and then get hit with $30 bill for time spent rectifying issue. I say to bike shop "bike shop should have ensured power meter works with recording device, eg garmin before charging $800 for power meter, Bike shop say bike shop take lot of time to fix "problem". I complain in vain. I feel bad. I pay the extra money...... Bike shop say sorry blah blah blah. I pay another $30 for what???? To get what should have been included with the $800. Note to self. DO NOT GO BACK TO THE THIEVES. read more

They didn't assemble the Trek Emonda SL6 replacement from Velosure for my husband. Velosure claims that this shop built the bicycle. The handlebars weren't put on properly and would've caused damage to the carbon had it not been corrected. They didn't put the rubber on the Duotrap sensor and actually broke the sensor as it wouldn't have attached properly without the rubber part. The chains on the derailleur were also not put on correctly and made shifting gears difficult, if not impossible, and again another potential for damage to the bike. Really shoddy workmanship. Don't buy any Trek bicycles from them! read more

Perhaps the best experience we have ever had at a cycle shop (and we were very jaded beforehand) - very understanding, expert advice and great, competitive prices. Matt L was particularly patient with us (long time between rides) and even helped us pack the bikes into our car - wheel removal and all. This place is on the other side of the city to us but well worth the trek. read more

MAIN REASONS WHY I DISLIKED IT: WHEN BUYING A BIKE THEY GAVE ME A BIKE WAY TOO BIG FOR MY SIZE WHEN TRYING TO REFUND THE BIKE, THEY REFUSED TO DO IT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR FAULT FOR GIVING ME THE WRONG BIKE. PLEASE READ BELOW I bought a Trek Marlin 6 from Turramurra Cyclery, I had already researched a good bike to buy from the internet and from my friends at school who all mountain bike. When I was buying the bike, I asked if I could have some decent sized wheels that were big and good for rolling over things, the person there gave me a 17.5 inch marlin 6 that had 29 inch, he said that I was all fine riding a bike a bit bigger than me so I went with it and when I was there, I didn't feel too uncomfortable besides for my seat height, which they trimmed down for me. Everything was fine on that day When I got home, I rode my bike and I was pretty happy about it, but to my shock, I tried riding my little brother's giant xtc jr and even though it was more than half the cost of my marlin 6 with terrible suspension (compared to my marlin) and it's size was probably not even a 13 inch with 24 inch wheels, I felt that it was MUCH easier to ride on that bike than mine. So I did some research online and found trek's sizing chart and to my shock again, I found that my bike was made for 165 cm - 175 cm high people and guess what? I'm 151 cm. I posted the issue online on mtbr and I received many responses, all telling me that the person at the shop had given me the wrong bike size and he did not fit the bike properly. I called the shop up and they said they were happy to change the bike to a smaller size and I was so relieved, up until the point the person at the shop started checking my bike and I was so dissapointed when his hand ran over a tiny little scratch towards the very bottom of the frame where some paint had come off. He just said "Mate, this bike will be pretty hard to sell with this scratch" then he helped trim the seat down an inch more and he said he would make the handle bars closer to my reach but it would take a couple of days for the correct parts to ship over for that to happen, so I just took my bike back home. Conclusion: I'm stuck with a huge bike for my size and I couldn't even switch it for a smaller bike, the person at the shop did not do the fitting process very well and if I am to buy another bike, I would never go there again.
