My fiancé and I have never operated a Vespa before and we decided to walk into Florence Station rental at 5pm to book a Vespa for a few hours. Lucky for us, there was one Vespa available and we were able to use it despite the shop closing at 5:30pm! Yuri (I believe this is the owner's name) was very accommodating and generally just great to work with. His English is excellent since he has a wife and child living in Hawaii, he's also visited California (my home state) multiple times. Since it was our first time on a Vespa, he made sure to get us comfortable with using the vehicle by teaching my fiancé and riding with him around the block! His instructions were fantastic. Honestly, the streets of Florence are kind of scary to drive around in, especially during rush hour traffic. Yuri gave us a route and a map that we can follow and basic traffic instructions. Luckily, my fiancé is tall and was able to operate the Vespa smoothly. A tip from me is to book a Vespa early in the day (or online). This shop is popular and vehicles may not be available. The countryside is better to be traveled early in the day when there is still light out. The shop does close at 5:30pm so any rentals late in the day will be charged "sunset pricing" but keys can still be return after the shop closes via a special "key hole" in the gate.

Alex allowed us to go around the block as many times as needed until we were comfortable. We never felt rushed or unvalued. He made the experience phenomenal. He also provided perfect directions to Chanti. This was the highlight of our trip.

We were lucky to get 3 spots. Though it def helps to have motorcycle skills, as long as you can skillfully ride a bike, you should be ok. If not, pair up! That's what I thought...until we arrived in Tuscany the day before and drove through the tiniest, windiest roads with local Italian drivers! So you can imagine how nervous I was when we checked into the store before the tour. I didn't want to cancel because it was something my husband and older son wanted to do. We met Mauricio and Alexa at the store. Both were really friendly and Alexa was straightforward with me. She warned me it would be the same conditions riding the vespa, as it was when we drove the day earlier. But she said they would assess our skills once we got to the location. After a 30 minute drive, we arrived at the beautiful Fattoria San Pancrazio. Here they took us on a short tour of the amazing wine process and cellars. I can't remember the name of our guide, but he was charming and friendly. Afterwards, Alexa and Mauricio took us to the driveway to take the driving test. No one in our 12 person group drove a Vespa before (or recently), so Alexa did a short demonstration. I, of course, didn't pass the 1st time but I was totally ok with it. The vespa is not easy to drivr at all. I definitely wouldn't be confident driving my younger son behind me. Out of the group, only 4 people passed as drivers. At no point was anyone upset or mad, in fact, I think we were all relieved to know that Alexa and Mauricio were looking out for our safety and those around us. They made arrangements for everyone to ride with another driver and then we we were off. I was paired up with Marco, one of the senior workers at San Pancrazio. He was amazing and I learned so much about his passion for the products they make. I was completely terrified the entire time, but he made me feel safe. We stopped for pictures halfway through and then made our way back for lunch. Lunch was simple but satisfying and we got to try some excellent wines. I even bought 2 bottles and a bottle of olive oil. Overall, I think this is an amazing experience that everyone should try. I don't understand the bad reviews regarding not being able to drive. The company is all about safety and they really care about the people on their tours. On our ride, there was an inpatient local truck and car tailing behind us. If you weren't condidently driving the vespa, someone could've gotten hurt. They are protecting you, as well as their livelihood! When I come back to Florence, I will definitely do another of their tours (just as long as I'm not driving the vespa myself lol). Thank you to the staff of Tuscany Cycle and Fattoria San Pancrazio for an unforgettable time.

The price tag is a big hefty, but a wine tour with Tuscany Private Tours is oh so worth it…read more I was staying in the Castellina area of Chianti and was having a lot of trouble finding a company that would provide a private transfer to and from the hotel. Most tours leave from the Florence / Siena area, or have you meet them right at the winery. My feeling was that if I was spending a few days in Tuscany I wanted at least one day of not having to worry about driving to and from wineries. Thankfully we found Tuscany Private Tours and all was good. It is an extra 40 euro to add pick up and drop off at the hotel. But if you are going to all the trouble to arrange a private tour it would be the worst to have to drive 15-20 minutes to actually get to the tour. So again, you can really alleviate all driving with this if you want to. We took the 'Safari Tour' -- basically like a regular wine tour, except you get to cruise around in a super cool land rover. Our guide Paolo was awesome. He was super friendly and knowledgeable of wine and the area, and was overall just a really cool person to spend the day with. You visit three different wineries, tastings included at each and also have an included homemade winery lunch at your last stop. I liked that all three wineries have very different vibes. Our guide also mentioned that he chooses to do this on purpose. First stop -- a big commercial winery. Very cool to tour their production facility and then compare that to a production facility at a much smaller winery. Second Stop -- more of an urban experience. We visited a tasting room on the main street in Castellina. Paolo explained that he purposely takes people to this winery because it is one of the oldest in the area. After visiting several wineries in the rolling hills it was cool to also check one out in more of an industrial setting. Third Stop -- by far the best! Paolo took us to a very small winery. So small, that you'd probably only be able to find them if you have a tour guide that is friends with their family (ahem, Paolo). The grounds were absolutely gorgeous -- insane views of the Tuscan hills and gorgeous plants and greenery everywhere. We enjoyed a fantastic multi-course lunch -- pasta (of course), assorted crostinis, cheeses, meats and dessert. Because it's lunch (and maybe because it's the last stop?) we also had way more wine than just a taste. I'm here for it. If you want to try all wines before deciding which bottle to buy, they have every bottle available at the Tuscany Private Tour office. Tips for the tastings are included, but tips for your guide aren't, so be sure to bring some cash. Long review, but in short -- if you are not staying in the city and want to wine tour without worrying about driving then just do this. It's pricey but worth it for an incredible day. We will truly remember it forever.

We were the only ones scheduled at that hour, which meant we could move at our leisure. Bella took advantage of that fact and slyly guided us through the soft dark earth toward an older couple at work in their olive orchard. They were raking the ripe olives off the branches the old way, with tools that gently combed the fruit off the tree onto the green netting below. Some brisk introductions and we were fast recruited to try our hand at this ancient harvest. A delightful start to our adventure. Then came the instructions for how to operate these old miniaturized Fiats. As luck would have it, we all three already knew how to "drive stick", but the refresher course was helpful! And there were nuances unique to these old cars which we needed to know. Once we got the gist of it, we headed out and tooled across the Tuscan countryside like the smart set on a happy jaunt! The little car ground gamely up the hills and around the curving vales, through cozy villages and past old castles until we found a place to park so we could take in the view. And what a view! The rolling vistas of Tuscany are incomparable; the beauty and richness of this wine district are breathtaking. We posed for pics alongside our tri-colored little pet and then switched drivers, letting my daughter take the wheel for a spell. She loved maneuvering our Fiat 500 around the hairpin turns and past the racing bicyclists. Another stop and my wife had a go. Experts all! Before long it was time to eat, and our hostesses had a feast in store for us. We stopped at La Capannaccia di Luca Bini, an Old World house where the owner and maker of the celebrated Chianti Classico and Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva lives. The finest cold cuts and chicken pâté were laid out for us ahead of time, alongside three wine glass tastings of their finest vintages. Naturally we were ready for this. But it wasn't all, as the second course of meat balls and pasta were presented to us. We spent at least an hour noshing, chatting and laughing like old friends. We bought a bottle of red and a tin of olive oil to cap the meal. In due course, we drove the short distance back to our starting point where the ladies called us a taxi and shared with us their web addresses, hugs and sweet partings before we left. Bella and Sofia, we won't soon forget you. Thank you for a lovely time.
