We slept in and unfortunately they were all out of bikes but had 2 electric bikes left. They were super apologetic about not having any other bikes. We weren't looking for a daily rental so were okay with the higher price tag for the electric bike, plus we've always wanted to try riding one. And off we went, zipping around the wall! We did the entire wall in about 20 minutes, including numerous stops along the way to take pics. The electric bikes are FUN! I don't think I've smiled that much in a really long time. I definitely want to look into purchasing one now! It made the (very few) hills so easy. We wound up going around at least 4 times, including a yummy stop for lunch at Lo Skianto As we returned the bikes, I checked in on yelp and got a 20% off bike rental coupon! What a surprise! So the more expensive rental actually was less expensive! The guys were super nice in the shop and had lots of bikes back when we returned them. Everything looked great!

And, he had the nerve to show me pictures of the $5000 bikes he was buying for road bike rental when we delivered the bikes back! We were led to believe we would be getting high end bikes, they would have been decent had they new/good mechanical condition. Not high end though. We could have bought new bikes for the same price and sold them back to the store at the end of trip. And avoided 3 trips to the mechanic during our trip. He did pay us back for the mechanic visits and refunded one day of rental after multiple requests. Absolutely not advised to patronize.

The bikes had inadequate gearing for the big mountain passes near Bormio. They did not appear to be safe and had obvious cosmetic damage. We advised Gennaro that we were not going to use the bikes and requested a refund. He said he would process the cancelation, but never issued a refund.

The owner, Massimo, is absolutely the nicest man you will ever meet. Our guide, Valentina, was the best. She is very passionate about ecology and Tuscany. The included lunch in a local cafe was a highlight. The local cheese and meats were fabulous. The E-bikes were so nice in the rolling hills. You can also just rent bikes and do a self-guided tour. We had so much fun that we called him and rented for a second day and went to San Gimignano and back on another gorgeous route. The e-bikes were in great shape with chargers, helmets, locks, and water bottles and saddle bags. Toscana by Bike is a great outfit and I highly recommend them. Massimo speaks English also so that made everything easy. The routes were on small roads with very little car traffic and we felt like we were the first people to ever discover Tuscany. Amazing!

Five stars for the team at Tuscany Bike Tours. Here's the day:…read more 9:30am Rendezvous at the shop in Florence. Meet your fellow riders. Try to pick out the riders that seem weaker than you. You'll need this info if it snows and you get stuck in the Pyrenees. 10am Take the shuttle bus out of Florence, into the Tuscan countryside. The van seats 8 comfortably. Bonding time with fellow riders...from Canada and the States and Oz. Note that many of them have cycling gear on. Lie to them and say that you competed in the Tour de France in 2012. Wear your seatbelts on the van. (This is Italy.) 10:45ish Tour the castle. Fortify yourself with a little wine. Get fitted for bikes and helmets. Your bike has a name. Remember it. Off onto the Tuscan roads 1pm Enjoy a late lunch at a little roadside cafe. Bruschetta, salad, pasta, lots of wine and plenty of convivial conversation with your fellow bikers. Tell them you were just joking about the Tour de France. Eat a little fruit and some espresso to get you ready for the road again. Try to remember the name of your bike. Was it "Diablo" or "Dianna Ross"? Consider going back in for some more wine while you try to remember. 2pm Another hour or two of biking the countryside. Your route includes an (optional) 2kilo stretch of road straight up Mount Everest. (Okay not really Mount Everest, but it feels like it by the time you are done.) You have the option of tapping out anywhere along the line. It is grueling. Consider giving up. Consider which of your fellow bikers you'll eat first if you've got to survive. Wish that you had done the Tour de France to warm up. Wish that you had not had so much wine. Wish that you never went on a biking tour. Wish that bikes had never been invented. Reach the top and forget all of this in a rush of endorphins. High five the other bikers. Feel better than you've ever felt. Consider buying a bike. Consider watching the Tour de France this year. Consider hugging that guy you were secretly planning to eat if things got really bad. 4pm Return the bikes and get in the van for the trip home. Realize that this was the best thing you've done in Firenze so far. Have a fantastic time talking to the people on your bike tour. Try to put that business about eating the weak behind you. Get lots of great tips from your driver. 5pm Reluctantly say arrivederci to your fellow bikers. Spend the rest of the evening talking about what a great day it was.
