I engaged Vince about 4 months into my GRE prep. Prior to working with Vince, I had worked with one…read moreother tutor that was much too formulaic in his approach to the test. Vince tutored me via Zoom. His remote setup enabled us to have productive exchanges as he was equipped with technology that facilitated easy learning. I'm including this in my review because my previous tutor did not possess the necessary technology to properly conduct remote learning. More importantly, Vince worked with me to apply focus to my GRE study, directing me to the right materials--I had previously only studied 3rd party material. He also helped me to stay on track with weekly study plans that matched my time commitment. In our 90 minute tutoring sessions, we spent our time mostly discussing verbal topics. Most valuable was that verbal discussions with Vince built the necessary experience that enabled me to understand how ETS presents the logic in the TC/SE questions types and what ETS is looking for when presenting their RC question types. As a native English speaker, I had to re-engineer how I read the passages and questions presented in the GRE. My tutoring sessions with Vince helped me acquire the test taking "finesse" in the verbal section that I needed to go from scoring in the 70th percentile (May 2021 test) to scoring in the 96th percentile (July 2021 test). If you have the resources, I strongly recommend connecting with Vince or at least consider taking his online Verbal GRE prep course. Finally, some general test-taking advice re: the GRE. The GRE is a game and you're there to play its 80 little puzzles. One of the best pieces of advice I got from Vince himself: "Be patient, build experience, and take your time with the test." This advice really resonated with me and I took it to heart, eventually attaining the score I wanted. So, to my fellow test taker: "Be patient, build experience, and take your time with the test."

I tried 2 tutors (one independent, and one through a larger service) that were okay, but there were some issues with communication, material, and just general approach. My son is diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and has an IEP (for the last year). My son 100% understands Spanish when it is spoken to him and he mixes Spanish and English in his vocabulary regularly. This is coming to an end for Aria at ABCD as she will start kindergarten soon. It is such a bittersweet moment. But at least I know I will bring my second daughter to her soon. I've been with them for about a year and I can not EXPRESS enough how much they have helped my child out. The progress has been HUGE and have give my child such a HUGE positive reinforcement that I will forever feel grateful and thankful to them all, not to mention the confidence and the improving in grade my child has experienced too. In addition to the high quality, the flexibility of the academic support provided is extremely valuable as the students can be assisted in multiple subjects on an "as needed" basis. Also time-wise, the tutoring club has been able to adjust schedules depending on upcoming exams, finals etc, which has been very helpful. I was struggling with my AP biology class and even with only 4 months until my AP exam, my biology tutor helped me out a lot. Before we got anything started, the staff worked with me to make a plan so that I could get through all the material in time. Large groups of kids (16 even in the younger grades!) crammed into tiny classrooms. I want to be…read moreclear that some of the teachers are great and working incredibly hard, but they are being given an impossible task. This curriculum is hard (by design), and kids need support. Instead, teachers are trying to do crowd control while kids are behavior problems, calling out and talking over others. Because there is an emphasis on speed and solving problems quickly, some teachers even reward these kids with "beast bucks," their prize system. If you get a less skilled teacher, students (often girls) can be left out. Admin unfortunately does not care about the issue, even though I brought it up months ago. They will simply remind you that there are no refunds. Meanwhile, girls and less aggressive students who are *talented in mathematics* can be left out. AOPS Carmel Valley needs to seriously lower their class sizes to be able to manage impulsive kids and make a concerted effort to provide space and time for quieter kids to contribute meaningfully. I am not in any way blaming the teachers -- this is not their fault. AOPS's math curriculum (Beast Academy) is fabulous and can be purchased online monthly. I recommend going this route until AOPS Carmel Valley prioritizes kids' (and their teachers') experiences over money and hiring more admin.

From the teachers to the administrators, they all go above and beyond. My child's confidence has improved significantly since starting nearly 2 years ago.
