I engaged Vince about 4 months into my GRE prep. Prior to working with Vince, I had worked with one other tutor that was much too formulaic in his approach to the test. Vince tutored me via Zoom. His remote setup enabled us to have productive exchanges as he was equipped with technology that facilitated easy learning. I'm including this in my review because my previous tutor did not possess the necessary technology to properly conduct remote learning. More importantly, Vince worked with me to apply focus to my GRE study, directing me to the right materials--I had previously only studied 3rd party material. He also helped me to stay on track with weekly study plans that matched my time commitment. In our 90 minute tutoring sessions, we spent our time mostly discussing verbal topics. Most valuable was that verbal discussions with Vince built the necessary experience that enabled me to understand how ETS presents the logic in the TC/SE questions types and what ETS is looking for when presenting their RC question types. As a native English speaker, I had to re-engineer how I read the passages and questions presented in the GRE. My tutoring sessions with Vince helped me acquire the test taking "finesse" in the verbal section that I needed to go from scoring in the 70th percentile (May 2021 test) to scoring in the 96th percentile (July 2021 test). If you have the resources, I strongly recommend connecting with Vince or at least consider taking his online Verbal GRE prep course. Finally, some general test-taking advice re: the GRE. The GRE is a game and you're there to play its 80 little puzzles. One of the best pieces of advice I got from Vince himself: "Be patient, build experience, and take your time with the test." I took their GRE classes (Quant and Verbal were two separate classes), studied on my own for a month, and got 164/164! I'm really pleased with my scores, and I definitely could not have achieved those numbers without the foundation that their prep provided me with. The classes are really small, which allows for more attention per student, and Vince also has office hours. Having taken an SAT prep class at Elite during high school, I really appreciate how VKTP doesn't overwhelm you with a ton of busy work. This actually made me more motivated to study on my own, and try really hard to do well. Highly recommend! I signed up for Vince's GRE Verbal classes about 2 months before I was set to take my GRE (that was a requirement for my Physician Assistant school application). The class was 2 weeks long, and honestly, I was so glad I found the class. Vince is a pretty cool guy and really knows his grad school and GRE stuff. His classes are small and personalized, he teaches you strategies on how to handle the different types of questions on the test, and it helped me immensely on my actual test. He goes over examples in class, assigns homework, reviews essays before each class and then offers feedback, and even gives you GRE prep material. One of my favorites was this mini dictionary type of book that had mnemonics for all the crazy words I'd never heard of, which was such a helpful tool to remember the meanings of words. Vince is also super calm and easy-going, which in my opinion helps with students who are stressed out or who can't get the hang of certain answers right away, and really takes the time to help his students, Each class, he also reminded us that we could reach out to him if we needed more help in any segment of our prep. I haven't come across very many teachers who go beyond the class environment to help students out, and you can see that Vince really cares about our success on the test. Verbal on the GRE can be daunting, but Vince's class definitely helped deal with the challenge better. Of course, once you have your strategies in place, you need to apply it to your own practice tests. But I know I wouldn't have been able to tackle the verbal section the way I did without Vince's training. Vince also helped me revise my grad school application essays. He critically analyzed my writing and was honest in his feedback on how I could fine-tune my writing. This man really gets grad school applications, and all the aspects that go with it. In my experience, Vince is not a good person or a good tutor. I met him three times, and that was plenty to realize that he was extremely unprofessional, VERY rude, and a really bad tutor. Overall, he behaved like an adult bully. My parents signed me up for SAT tutoring with Vince. He had tutored me one time before when I was a high schoool freshman. I also met him before our first appointment for a consultation. I was nervous but really excited because when I googled him, there were so many great reviews so I assumed he must be really helpful. However, when I got there, he just handed me a packet and told me to tell him when I finished. He went on his computer and didn't speak to me at all. Once I finished each packet, I would tell him I was finished and he would just hand me another packet to do without saying anything. Then, he sat down and asked "do you want to be here?" and I said yes, but that I was just a little tired. He said okay and gave me another packet. At the end, I said thank you and left. That night, he emailed my mom explaining that I was never allowed back at his "tutoring" center because he was only interested in helping kids who are "really excited about the SAT". Show me ONE person who's ever been truly excited about the SAT. I never went back and there was no further contact or explanation, that I know of. This experience genuinely lowered my self esteem so much. It made me think there was something wrong with me. I have always struggled with my self esteem and social anxiety, and this experience really, really negatively affected me. Additionally, this experience with Vince made me so much more afraid and less confident of taking the SAT that my practice scores went DOWN afterwards. I was eventually lucky enough to find a tutor who genuinely cared about his students and wanted to help us instead of just making us feel bad for his own pleasure. I do not know why he hated me so much, maybe he perceived me as being rude? Maybe he just didn't like me? Maybe he thought I wasn't smart enough to go to his tutoring center? Maybe there's something more happening at this place other than just tutoring? Just a thought, since I was given no explanation. I'm genuinely not sure why so many people love him. It's pretty obvious that many of these reviews are fake reviews written by Vince, but as for the genuine reviews, I'm really not sure. Maybe they're enticed by boundaries being crossed? Maybe he just acted differently around me because he could tell I wasn't going to let him do anything to me? Maybe he was just having a really, really bad day and took it out on me, who knows. Ultimately, I do not know what goes on behind closed doors at this "tutoring" center, but I would be open to hearing an explanation on why I was treated the way that I was. I will consider deleting/altering my review if I am able to get a very good and genuine explanation and apology for your behavior, Vince. But I am not expecting that from you. I have been thinking about this for years and have not come to a conclusion, so if there's a genuine reason behind it, I'd like to know. For those considering using Vince as their tutor, I would recommend using caution. Maybe bring a parent with you the first few times and determine if you think he is trustworthy. Maybe it's safer now since it's virtual. Personally, if I had a child, I would not bring them to Vince no matter what. My experience with him really hurt my self esteem and worsened my already bad social anxiety, but perhaps I am lucky that nothing worse happened. Found out about this place earlier this summer and signed up for one-on-one SAT tutoring sessions for my brother. I took a 5 week GRE prep course with Vince May-June 2017. I applied for grad school for Fall '18 programs. After trying to study for the GRE on my own, I decided I needed some assistance. My main issues were with the quantitative section and staying focused and I figured a course would offer some math techniques and provide some structure. I found Vince through Yelp and signed up for his 5-week bootcamp course. His training did give me the techniques and structure that I needed, but also helped me identify a number of weak spots that I had overlooked. My concerns about the quantitative section had led me to take the qualitative and essay sections for granted. Vince's classes are well rounded, though, and you study a little bit of everything in the two hours. He really breaks down the test into its individual parts - beyond the three sections and into the various question types. Mixing up the material in that way also keeps the class interesting, which is particularly helpful for an evening class. Vince's bootcamp was also the perfect small group environment, with only six of us in our class. Because his classes are so small, there is plenty of time to address individual questions and give a personalized experience. It was also supportive to see that we shared a lot of the same concerns, and the others brought up issues that I hadn't considered or had their own ways of analyzing a problem that helped me grasp certain concepts better. The bootcamp was especially beneficial in highlighting how important it is to study daily (or at least as often as possible). 20 hours is a good amount of time to go over question types and review some fundamental concepts, but it doesn't replace working on your own. Vince gives a lot of tips on how best to incorporate this type of study into your day though. I definitely feel better prepared to take the test and am less fearful about the whole thing in general. I have decided to hold off on taking the GRE until I've taken an algebra and geometry review course, but Vince has given me the tools to maintain my test prep. He's also good about staying in touch and it's helpful knowing I can go back to him if I do get stuck again. read more

When I started my grad school application journey, I really did not know where to begin, AT ALL! There's just so much to research, write, and STUDY for ! DURING MY FIRST YEAR of trying to apply to grad schools I was so overwhelmed with the application process, while also having to make time for my admission essay, while ALSO having to make time to study for the GRE. Needless to say, I thought I could handle it all on my own and did not reach out for any type of help or tutoring assistance. I worked one on one with Matt for about 9 months in total to prepare for my ACT! I took the real test once and got a respectable score, but we decided that I could definitely push further to improve. We worked very hard doing even more practice tests and exercises, and we reviewed concepts and test day tactics so that I could stay calm and manage my time. The second time taking the ACT, my Math section improved by 4 points and my Science by 6 points from the first test, and I received a perfect score/36 in both the English and Reading sections! Since his classes are small, it's easy to go over all kinds of questions in class ranging from homework assignments to how to study properly for test day. After beginning to prep for the GRE, I knew I couldn't do it alone. Yelp actually brought me to Vince...believe the reviews, HE IS AWESOME! I was struggling greatly with the verbal and writing portions of the GRE and was generally scoring much lower in those areas than in quantitative section. I went to Vince a number of months ago for some GRE prep. I'd taken a test prep course from one of the massive companies, but I didn't feel completely confident or prepared with the tools they gave me. If I could do it again I'd skip them and go straight to Vince. I was on a time crunch with only a month or two to take the test before I left the country. Vince was amazing with helping me target exactly what I needed to work on in the short time I had. He also helped me tailor my own personal approach to the essay questions using my interests and background(which was essential to my success on the test).
