Our first meal in London was good. The place was busy so we sat inside. The hostess outside was a bit rude, she said no table is available & go inside to see if there are any available. I've come here twice as I think it's a great spot for a meal with coworkers and friends. Atmosphere is classy but not upscale. You can comfortably wear jeans or something dressy. The location screams tourist trap but the food quality is worth visiting. I highly recommend the chicken salad. Having the starter size was large enough when paired with a soup. Tender slices of chicken with lettuce and many toppings plus a delicious dressing was perfect. The leek soup was nice and well blended. The mussels were also good but not great. A big serving of mussels but the creamy sauce was a bit weak in flavor. Fries were tasty. My dining companion thoroughly enjoyed the huge fish and chips serving with mushy peas. This restaurant has a great selection of British faves like Shepherds pie, fish and chips, fish pie, and a big selection to suit all. Fresh oysters were also good with all the condiments to adorn them. Definitely recommend a Bloody Mary, full of flavor! Service was average. Everything about this restaurant "could've been better". The only reason I'm giving it two stars is that the food was decent. The service was terrible and the restaurant wasn't busy, at all. We were seated outside, immediately, and ordered drinks. 20-minutes later, we were approached by maybe the manager or hostess asking if we had received our drinks yet when clearly, we hadn't. Five or so minutes later, our waitress comes to tell us she's going to check on our drinks. We ordered 1 vodka dirty martini and 1 espresso martini. The vodka martini turned out to be gin and had no olive juice and the espresso martini couldn't have had any alcohol in it. The service was overall horrible. Other customers had been seated and received their food, and left, all AFTER we arrived and ordered. We didn't complain or question once, which looking back was a mistake. This was our first day in London and really, this place was basically a "tourist trap". It's like any other restaurant in Times Square. I don't recommend it at all. read more

Nuttin for Tuttons ....worst service ever. We were seated by Fabio, a friendly young man,and if he had been our server, we would have had a much better experience. Our waiter came over, struggled to take our order, and left...never to be seen again. After 30 minutes, another person brought us our food, but we had to ask her where our cocktails were as dinner arrived before our drinks. She found them for us, getting warm at the bar. Our original server completely forgot them, and we had to ask the girl who found our drinks for the water we asked for. The meal was merely adequate but with flaws. The butternut squash risotto had a savory flavor, quite tasty, but a little Al dente for my taste,but not enough to send back. My friend ordered the smoked chicken salad which had a wonderful hickory smoked taste to the chicken chunks, but the salad should have included apples per the menu, providing a contrasting sweetness to the smoky chicken, yet the apples were missing. My friend was afraid to send it back as the service had been so slow. When we finished, we finally got our server's attention and asked for the check. She said ok, but after 15 minutes of watching her wait on other people, we realized she had forgotten us yet again. We flagged down Fabio,and he got us our check and cashed us out. Fabio should get a raise as he has to do the job of two people. The location is lovely, and we are outside in the bustling Covent Garden area, but they are lucky they are in a tourist area. I normally try to avoid Covent Garden (too many tourists can mean pretty average food) but my friend suggested eating here, and I noticed we could get 50% off using the tastecard, so I figured it was worth a try. I think some of the previous reviews for this place are a bit harsh. The waiters were all friendly and helpful (and gave good advice for the deserts.) Food The food didn't blow me away, but it was pretty good (and we were both really full for about £16 each - yay for the tastecard.) - Mussels: Yum...but then, I guess it is hard to mess up moles frites. - The Kentish style cheesecake: I really enjoyed this. I wanted to mention this particular venue today,because as the weather starts to warm up is- the much coveted seated area on the piazza;the Terrace will be very popular with all. It has an area that holds 52 diners and is the ultimate place to grab a bite to eat while enjoying the sunshine and watching London go by. They have an excellent range of main courses, costing around £13 on average. There is something for everyone be their preference vegetarian, fish or meat. The choice which is my most favourite includes Pumpkin and Sage Risotto cakes served with baby Spinach and Caramelised Red Onion; Honey glazed Salmon fillet with warm Potato and baby Leek salad; chargrilled Lamb steak with roasted Mediterranean vegetables and a firm favourite, warm Goat's cheese salad served with Bruschetta and Apple chutney. Daily specials are announced on the blackboard and are very reflective of the season and weather, or as much as they can be in the British summertime. Look out for the Asparagus and Hollandaise sauce which never fails to impress. Tuttons is a happy place and thoughts of restraint should be left outside. This leads to the wine list which complements the menu well and offers a sound choice with the emphasis on New World wines. House wines are £13.95 per bottle. It has its own separate in-house bar offering a variety of drinks and lighter bites. Whether you stop by for a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening the bar is always lively and the staffs are a pleasure to chat with. Tuttons is also an ideal place to meet friends and business associates and that what I like about it the most.. We asked to be waited on by James because we read in a review that he was the best and we should request him. The advice couldn't have been more sage. He took great care of us all evening, including recommending a wine that couldn't have been more crisp, refreshing and ideal for our meal. You certainly can't go wrong requesting him. I believe he was working the bar but managed to take our table after he learned he had been requested. My friend marveled over his pumpkin tortellini, and my mussels in a light sherry cream with french fries were delicious. (Yes, you do have to remove the shells yourself, but for ones this fresh and with this presentation I didn't mind.) We each enjoyed the light, aromatic onion soup as a starter, and we split a lovely rum custard dessert special that was eminently English and couldn't have put a better cap on the evening. We are so glad we concluded our trip to London here. Highly recommended. read more

We visited Tuttons on our very first trip to London over 20 years ago. It quickly became our favorite place and we made sure to visit every time we traveled to London. So when we planed a family trip to London for my parents 50th anniversary we knew there was only one place that made sense to have our celebratory dinner. Sadly, it was less of a celebration and more of a disaster. We sat at our table for over 2 hours and never received our meal. When we asked about it the waitress always said "its on its way" but never actually followed through with looking to see what was happening and then mid way through our service she left. Finally we asked for a manager and he told us the order never entered the system because of a glitch. We decided to just leave as we had 6 adults and 4 kids who were now very hungry and frustrated. It is a real shame that our fond memories of Tuttons have now been tarnished by this terrible experience and we will be looking for our new favorite restaurant to visit when we travel to London. read more

Weirdest experience ever. Six of us walked by after seeing a show and saw a lot of empty outdoor seating. Seems perfect. The hostess says she can't seat more than 4 at a time, so we tell her that's ok, split us into 4 and 2. She says she can't because we know each other. So we say, hey, pretend we don't know those two, seat us wherever you want! And she says she can't because there's 6 of us. Maybe they just don't like kids? (We had 2 kids with us.) If so, just say no kids. It would've been a lot easier. What a weird exchange. Anyway, we had great pizza down the road! Nothing like ordering a bottle of Pinot Grigio in the afternoon, with some Delicious chicken liver pâté, beef carpaccio and fries, chilling under the sun! Of all the restaurants in London town, I found this one. It was a beautiful clear and sunny day. I was walking around Covent Garden with my mum looking for a nice place to sit down and catch up over wine and food. The bright orange/ rusty red umbrellas enticed me over. Luckily, we got a table for 2 straight away. The food was wonderful and the cocktails were pretty special. I had a large salad and a side of mint glazed potatoes. It tasted like fresh food and was very tasty. The service was slow towards the end of our meal and we found ourselves having to go in search for our server so we could actually pay. It was such a nice experience that this didn't phase me all that much. The toilets are so far away if you plan to sit outside. It was like a dark maze of staircases and doors. As soon as you walk inside, you leave touristy, busy London outside and walk into a Parisian style, chic-looking brasserie, so straight away this place got a thumbs up from me. Having said that, I did come here for breakfast with a friend so it was pretty chilled out and quiet - I'm guessing it gets just as bustling as outside later on in the day! There was a great range of choices to pick from on the breakfast menu catering to all tastes and diets from poached eggs, avocado and salmon to pancakes to a full English. Not only were both of us were happy with our first meal of the day, but the prices weren't as extortionate as you might expect for its location. Breakfast prices generally ranged from £7-11 so fairly standard for London, so granted, it's not a bargain, but not too bad considering it's central, you get more than the pretentious-portion quota and it was pretty tasty. Annoyingly, I realised only afterwards that they do accept a Tastecard so don't make the same mistake as me! The staff were really friendly and efficient too so it gets my stamp of approval. read more

Rude, prejudice hostess refused to seat one person for breakfast at 10am when there was plenty of empty tables. She said I needed to book an appointment online and since I'm a tourists and don't have internet access she said she couldn't help me. Any good, decent hostess would have helped me book a seat but not this one! I thought British people were nice and full of manners. Apparently not at Tuttons. A good location for a meal after shopping or before the theatre. Tuttons sits on the corner of covent garden quite close to the station. The restaurant was quite nice although the seating could have been more spacious and the atmosphere wasn't as good as other restaurants. The staff were friendly enough. The menu was limited but the food was quite nice and a little unusual. The service was quick and efficient but this was on a sunday night so not sure about peak times. The wine list is good enough, but again nothing worth writing home about. Very nice place, a look of elegance in the wonderful surroundings of Covent Garden. I was there for lunch, as I was lucky enough to get main courses for two for £1 during a lastminute.com promotion. However, their usual prices are around £12-£17, which is reasonable, but the best value is to go for a pre-theatre 2 course meal for around £16, which has some of the main courses from the a la carte menu. The mango and prawn salad (one of the seasonal specials) was nice, but they were a bit skimpy as there were only 4 small prawns. I had the sea bass which was well done, although a bit watery, and if I had to rate it I would give it a 3 out of 5 only. Having eaten sea bass at a similar European-style restaurant called EastWay at the Andaz Hotel in Liverpool Street only a few nights earlier, it was a major disappointment. I recommend that this place is probably good value if you go for their 2-course pre-theatre set menus for £16ish, but if you order a la carte you can probably find better value or better quality elsewhere. read more

Went here on Saturday for a friend's birthday and got to use the 'Vault' private dining room, which was perfect for a secluded meal away from the hussle and bussle of other diners (especially on a Saturday night). The room was very cosy, with exposed brick work, wall lights and a large dresser on one side. We even had our own dedicated waiters who made sure we had everything we needed. The food was mediocre really, I think it was more about the location/book-ability than for the food. Watch out for the WCs however, as they are joined with Dirty Martini bar next door so they get very busy and full of young tipsy ladies gossiping/applying make up which you don't normally get in a restaurant toilets. read more

The first few times were moderately good -- I had a decent meal with friends and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the rare events of nice London weather The last experience I had was bad though (Dinner on Saturday). The service was super slow and the people to both sides of us were served before we were even though they came much later than us. I think this place is not very good for Dinners...the managers were disorganised and didn't seem to know how to cope with the influx of people. My wife and I went here as part of a dinner/theatre package. We had planed dinner after the show. The show ran late. When we left the theatre it was raining. On top of this we had just arrived in London, have never been to London before and got lost on the way to the restaurant. Needless to say the prearranged seating time was for 10pm and we showed up at 11pm. They were very accommodating and did honour our package. The maitre'd helped served us and was a great conversationalist. We chatted while we decided what we want for wine and to eat. I am so glad they let us eat here because the food and wine was amazing. Very busy pre-theatre and quite warm and a little cramped inside but pleasant staff, if a little slow at times. Not badly priced; great with a 50% discount card but just ok without. £77 for chateaubriand for two is pretty steep though! A decent place to try if you're in central London and can bear the crowds!
