She teaches well rounded true to level classes (read the class description and know thyself). She motivates and encourages dancers to meet their goals, whether that is fun, fitness, training for an audition, getting back to dance after a hiatus, or perhaps all of the above. She provides a supportive environment while offering technique, structure, and a little challenge - if that is what you're after. The community she's cultivated within every class is palpable. If you're a beginning/intermediate or advanced level dancer, looking for ballet, broadway, or tap, definitely check the schedule for her. (Double check the level as she teaches a variety.) If you're on the fence, I'd say find any class that interests you at the studio and give it a try!

Current format is more broken down steps, on repeat, then more added to one song. Basically, you're learning a choreography. It's kind of challenging for me. Makes my brain and body work a bit harder to be in sync. There's also an abs section. I do love the new format, but I personally like the nonstop hip hop dance better just because I like nonstop cardio! LOL They offer a lot of classes & the owner is nice, mellow, yet fun personality. She always makes it a point to say our names/greet us. Appreciate that gesture!

My daughter literally runs into the classroom as soon as we enter the studio and squeals with excitement throughout the class. She doesn't always follow instructions, but the teacher and her assistant are always so sweet and gentle with her. Each class is planned with fun, unique activities but carefully designed with skill building in mind. I am so grateful to have found this place! We've explored many free trial classes at gymnastics centers and other dance classes all over Orange County and really nothing has compared to this class and the patience and kindness of the teachers here. I can't wait for my daughter to continue her dance career :)

First of all, this studio is EXTREMELY hard to find. Obviously it is listed as "Groove Dance Fitness" online, however when I followed my navigation's instructions to the parking lot, I could not find any signage that advertised this business. I circled the block 3 times before parking somewhere random to pull up the website. I scoured the website to see if there was any specific instruction on where to find the studio to no avail. So, I figured I would call the number on Yelp. Once I opened Yelp, it stated that the studio was only open from 6pm to 8pm... I was signed up for a class that STARTED at 8pm. Confused, I called the phone number listed. After ringing for several minutes, it went to a voicemail that only stated a person's name as the outgoing message, nothing about it being associated with Groove Dance Fitness. Feeling defeated, I searched through the photos on Yelp and deduced that the studio was in a certain parking lot I had passed multiple times. I parked and watched someone walk into a door which was labeled under a different fitness studio name, but she was carrying a Burju bag, so I figured I would try it. Upon approaching the door, I saw in very small font to the left of the entrance "Groove Dance Fitness". I knew I was a couple minutes late when walking in due to the confusion of actually locating the studio. However, nobody greeted me. I joined the warm up on the floor which consisted of less than 10 minutes of stagnant stretching and a 60 second plank. Feeling zero percent warmed up, we were then asked to put on our knee pads and heels. I will say that the combination was fun, but I had some aches and pains since my muscles were effectively still cold. Towards the end of the class, the teacher paired us up as "watching buddies" to "amp each other up" during our run of the combination. My buddy did and said nothing as I danced. I decided to leave at 9pm since the class was listed as an hour and I do believe leaving a class early to be bad studio etiquette. This was also the time people were taking out their phones to record and I did not feel like being filmed. The cherry on top was that a fellow classmate saw me leaving and asked why I was leaving already. I just mentioned I have work in the morning. She then went on to ask if I have any dance experience, what my background is, and "who I train with". I stated that I've been dancing my whole life, but had to take a break due to personal reasons. I don't train with anyone as I am just getting back in the game. She then suggested to I try out a different studio that is more "beginner friendly". I politely smiled and took my leave. But not before the instructor noticed me, I told her "thank you for the class" and slipped out. Safe to say, I will not be returning. Personally, I did not feel welcomed at this studio. Hopefully, other people have a better experience than I did.

I'm beyond impressed by his ability to teach while seemingly-effortlessly demonstrating the moves himself. Everyone loved our dance on our wedding day, but more than that, it was just so fun to practice our First Dance with the crew at Bella Ballroom leading up to the wedding! Hector and I have zero experience when it comes to dancing, but even from our first meeting, Thomas made us feel so comfortable, and made everything so fun! He broke things down in a way that felt manageable for us as beginners, but also challenged us to keep growing, and was always so encouraging and supportive! Nick was also a great teacher, and had so many fun jokes! They both worked with us to choreograph a First Dance that felt right for my Husband and I, and we absolutely LOVED the way it turned out. We even got to spend a few of our sessions working a little on some moves for my Father-Daughter dance, and even learned a little Salsa just for fun! Thomas also did a great job of getting us in the right mindset for our First Dance. I tend to be more shy, and hate performing in front of people, but by the day of our Wedding, I felt ready and confident to do our First Dance in front of all our guests, and everyone loved it!! Hector and I have no regrets - we are SO happy we decided to do dance lessons at Bella Ballroom, and I cannot recommend them enough! She is incredibly talented, endlessly patient, and somehow managed to put up with all of our shenanigans every single week. She laughed with us (and occasionally at us), kept every lesson fun, and never made us feel discouraged. Stephanie & Andrew Chapel are the owners and Stephanie teaches several classes a week. From the first day I attended and every time I walk in the door on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 8:15am I am warmly greeted...and since my initial visit have always felt welcomed and part of the "Vessel Community." With just 20 bikes in the Studio, the experience draws you into the workout no matter which bike you are on. Stephanie's classes are amazing...great music - always a diverse playlist with moves that coordinate with the beat and work every muscle in your body - it's always HIGHLY challenging as well as extremely fun! :-) Her encouraging words before, during and after the workout not only help you focus and motivate but also provide that extra little push to be the best you can be during class. I always leave feeling a strong feeling of accomplishment and of course tired...(LOL)...but I also leave feeling grateful and excited to know I get to come back for another class! Abbey Lam is also an amazing person and awesome Instructor. She has equally excellent classes! I have attended some of her 7am classes and they are filled with energy and the same feeling of "community" and are challenging as well! Jimmie…read moreDeFore Dance Center in Costa Mesa offered adult jazz, tap, hip-hop, and ballet classes, but no modern, and it was not in a convenient location for me. UC Irvine would not allow community members to audit classes. The modern classes that I did find were all geared for children and teens. One day, I met a dancer who recommended I look into Deborah Benson's Lyrical Modern Dance Class through Laguna Beach's Recreation Department. I have to admit that I was initially skeptical of taking a class through the city. I had visions of a mirror-less space with concrete floors. Was I wrong! Who would have guessed that Laguna Beach has such incredible studios -- large and airy spaces with skylights to boot?! Deborah's class has been the best part of living in Laguna Beach (and that's saying a lot, because there are many great things about living here!) Deborah is an amazing dancer, talented choreographer, and a patient and generous instructor. She has experience performing and teaching throughout the country -- in dance studios, schools, and colleges. Her style is José Limón-esque. This is a perfect class for an adult who used to dance and wants to get back into it. Classmates are warm, kind, and non-judgmental. And we're all ages -- from our 20's through 70's! Deborah currently teaches a 1.5 hour class at the Susi Q on Saturdays at 10 am. You can sign up for the session through the City of Laguna Beach (which works out to only be about $10 per class) or drop in for $15. Deborah is currently also teaching a Tuesday evening class at Lang Park. You do NOT need to be a Laguna Beach resident to take either class. Parking is free.
