I heard from a friend that acupuncture could help induce labor, so I searched for someone local with great reviews when I hit 39 weeks. First baby, no signs of labor and Christmas 3 days past my due date had me a bit concerned... True Story, I first saw Eric on a Saturday at 5 pm. He asked if I would be okay with going into labor in the next few days - umm YES! After our initial discussion, Eric placed the needles in various spots and 30 minutes later I was on my way. The very next morning I didn't have an appetite when my food came out at my favorite breakfast spot, which I read could be a sign of early labor..hmm. By 5pm (24 hours after my appt!!) I was timing contractions 6-7 minutes apart. Baby Girl arrived Monday at 5pm! Amazing!! I visited Twelve Pathways solely based on the great Yelp reviews. I may have caught Eric on a bad day, but I found him to be flippant, grouchy, and unwelcoming. He seemed annoyed that I was there - like he wanted to be anywhere else. (Is this the same guy everyone else describes as knowledgeable and caring? Did I get some sort of Eric "imposter?") Didn't smile or emit any sort of kindness when we met, asked me to fill out paperwork and come back to the treatment room in a bored tone of voice, not even making eye contact. This was my first experience with acupuncture, so I dared to ask a couple of questions: What should I expect? Would I feel any different? How do you know if it's working? He seemed annoyed by these questions. He stuck a few needles in me and left the room - didn't explain what I should be doing/focusing on, didn't explain anything at all, really, just left the room. The only time he seemed even remotely animated was after the session when he took my payment and tried to get me to commit to more sessions and paying more money. I felt more stressed AFTER my treatment due to the fact that I paid $195 to feel like I was a nuisance. I was pretty excited to try acupuncture but this experience was a real turn off. I had hoped to find someone who would walk me through the experience a little more, or at least seem happy to have me as a customer. Maybe I'll try another place at some point, once the negativity of this experience wears off. In the meantime, I'll be spending my money on massage, mindfulness/yoga practices, and other things that are truly relaxing. This was worse than dropping $195 in the trash can. read more

NOT EXPERIENCED WITH CANCER PATIENTS. SEEK OUT A PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATED WITH CANCER TREATMENT PROGRAM! I sought Eric out while undergoing an aggressive neoadjuvant (before surgery) chemotherapy regimen treating my Stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in Fall 2014. I was having a host of treatment related side effects, including insomnia, anxiety/depression, fatigue, and nausea. I read his yelp reviews and they were all great. I was hesitant because there were no reviews from cancer patients. While my treatment hospital Northwestern offered a variety of integrative services, it is in Chicago, and driving there for weekly chemo was tough enough for me. I called Eric and asked about his experience with cancer patients. He assured me that in his 14 years of practice, he had worked with many cancer patients and was well versed in their care. I trusted him, because I believe that homeopathic practitioners are honest and good people. After my second session, my nausea was noticeably better, which I told him. He quickly asked me to write a review, which took me for surprise and made me wonder how sensitive he was to the plight of a cancer patient. He knew I had a toddler at home and was struggling to make it through each day due to fatigue. Asking me to do something for him while I was in this state was disconcerting. However, my nausea continued to get better with each session. I was able to stop my steroids early after each chemotherapy because my nausea was sidelined. I attribute this to acupuncture, along with clean eating. My sleep, however, never improved. I stressed that sleep was the most debilitating side effect I was experiencing. In addition to acupuncture, I was involved in weekly counseling with an oncology therapist to address the emotional side of facing cancer; this greatly reduced my anxiety and depression. I discontinued my sessions with Eric when I ended chemo because they were costly and helped with nausea, from which I no longer suffered. Fast forward to the present. I had surgery in January. Eric text me about a month after my surgery asking when I was coming in again. I thought about it and decided to give him another try now that nausea was no longer a symptom. I also figured that since I am no longer on any medications for pain or sleep, acupuncture might work to help me stay asleep through the night. I went in for a session. I told him about my surgery; during which he was not looking at me and was searching in his cabinet for my file. He asked no follow up questions regarding my bilateral mastectomy with sentinal lymph node removal surgery or my current radiation treatment. He just wanted to know when I stopped taking my medications. I told him to steer clear of my right side multiple times. He asked me if I wanted a heat lamp on my stomach! Umm, no, I'm suffering from radiation burns on my chest, underarm, and upper back, of course I don't want a heat lamp anywhere near my body. He treated me and placed a needle in my right wrist. My fault for not asking the purpose and trusting he knew what he was doing. I left feeling relaxed and went to radiation. I woke up in the middle of the night soaked with sweat. I'm no longer in chemo induced menopause and hadn't had a hot flash in over a month. The next morning my right arm, wrist, and hand began feeling swollen. I called my radiation oncologist asking to see her when I came in for treatment. She said I'm developing lymphedema and referred me for physical therapy. I canceled my next session with Eric immediately and went to pick up the cash I had paid him. He did not have change when I paid in cash for the session so I paid for 2 sessions that day. I picked up my cash (he shorted me $1), told him what happened, and he acted surprised. I called Northwestern's integrative clinic and asked about this. I was shocked at the answer I received. Practitioners should NEVER treat any limbs at risk for lymphedema! What puts a patient at risk? Surgery and radiation, two facts Eric knew about me. I'm disappointed with how this turned out and feel partly to blame for trusting his experience with cancer patients. I write this review so no one else experiences negative side effects when seeking treatment to help alleviate the side effects that go along with cancer treatment. This is not a bashing of Eric as a practitioner. He has helped patients who do not have life threatening illness with fertility, pain, relaxation. Cancer patients deserve an acupuncturist with specific cancer experience and knowledge. I implore you to seek out professionals affiliated with integrative medicine at local hospitals. I started seeing Eric for help with fertility as my husband and I have been trying for 3 years. My first session was on 9/17/15. Eric made me feel really comfortable and he was so positive during my conversation with him that it lifted my spirits by the time I left the office (which made a huge difference for me considering its been 3 long years). Just after one session I noticed that my energy level increased slightly and I slept better at night. It was the most relaxing experience I've ever had. I started seeing Eric about a year ago for fertility. I'm 43 and decided to take a more natural path to pregnancy instead of going the medical route with IVF. I decided to try acupuncture (with a little reluctance) following a friends recommendation for help with fertility/maintaining a healthy pregnancy and I couldn't be happier that my search led me to Eric. I suffered an early pregnancy loss in June of 2013 and went for my first session with Eric in the beginning of a cycle in early November.
