First of all, I am such a skeptic, don't believe in this at all AND I hate needles. I had been suffering with muscle pain in my right arm due to repeated use during my volunteer work. I visited my doctor in early December when I became so uncomfortable because of the pain. I could not push open a heavy door or lift anything even just somewhat heavy. I couldn't reach behind me and the pain woke me as I slept. My doctor recommended PT and I met with a therapist in January, where I was given several exercises and directions to attempt to ease my pain. I found some relief but not enough. I was still taking Tylenol and Aleve in an effort to function and to sleep. In May, a gentleman where I volunteered told me acupuncture helped him greatly. Still skeptical , I mentioned this to a relative and she encouraged me to give it a try since her husband went to Frank Grill and found this treatment to be remarkably helpful. If I could give Frank Grill 10 stars, I would! I have three degenerative discs in my neck. I started getting headaches that would not allow me to perform everyday tasks. I saw three neurologists, a pain management specialist, had Radio-frequency ablation which only made it worse, tried different types of pain medication and went to a physical therapist. Nothing worked. I was at my wits end. A friend recommended Frank. After 2 treatments I started feeling better. After 4 more I no longer had any pain! I have only good things to say about Naperville Acupuncture Center. I have received many treatments there over the last 5 years. Most recently, I had seen an orthopedic surgeon due to knee pain and weakness. I hadn't been able to run or exercise due to the swelling, pain and weakness. I have been seeing Frank Grill for the past few months for acupuncture treatment to AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration). He has helped my eyes greatly. I have ten steel screws and a steel plate in my ankle from a severe break 6 years ago, and have had ongoing problems with severe arthritis. Because I can't get the metal removed, I was skeptical as to whether or not anything other than hardcore medications (and the associated side-effects) would work to help with the pain, swelling, and discomfort I was feeling daily. Fortunately, I was recommended to see Frank at Naperville Acupuncture Center by a trusted care provider who went to the same school as him. I found NAC's office to be efficient, kind, clean, and professional. Angela's nursing experience really comes through in the way that she takes time to interview you on your first visit - and the way she takes care of patients throughout the process. Just today, she checked on me during my treatment and brought me a blanket because I had a bit of a chill. A great combination of caring and professionalism. After one month of going for acupuncture treatments twice a week (and now in maintenance once a month), I am now maintaining a fantastic baseline, and the pain and swelling has gone down permanently in my ankle. I went looking for an acupuncturist as a last resort after three months of crippling fatigue that my doctor couldn't fix and had defined as a stress illness. I saw acupuncture as an interesting life experience, something to try but probably rule out. I chose Naperville Acupuncture Center because I wanted a clinic that takes a medical, rather than spiritual, approach. The website describes the process in clinical terms, which seemed promising. I was not disappointed when I arrived. Frank comes across very serious and formal when you first meet him. (I really like that in a healthcare provider - I find it respectful and reassuring.) He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced and can answer any question for you in detail. He spent half an hour getting my health history and talking me through how acupuncture works, what it will and will not do, and what the realistic expectations are. I appreciated this because I felt like he was leveling with me and genuinely looking to help me, not to get me to sign on the dotted line. The closest thing to acupuncture that I was familiar with was massage, so I was picturing having to disrobe and be draped in sheets. I was relieved to be taken to a room with easy chairs, where I sat back and just pushed up my sleeves and pant legs a bit. Frank recognized that I was nervous and talked me through it, and my first session was a success. I have now had eight sessions of therapy. Frank has also provided advice on my diet and sleep habits and has sourced an herbal treatment for me, and over these four weeks, the fatigue has lifted. What has truly amazed me, though, is what this has done for my migraines, which I never expected him to work on for me. I have been on every major medication and have worked with three neurologists over the course of seven years. In the past four weeks, my migraines have faded away to the point that my major triggers are no longer causing headaches. I can scarcely let myself believe that this is real. I need more time to trust that it's actually going to last, but it seems like I've finally gotten out of the pit of 1-2 migraines a week that I've been dealing with for seven years. Frank is not a doctor. He may be trained in his field but he does not have a medical degree. This treating him as if he is a real doctor that leads me to post my experience with my appointment. Previously I used the services of two medically licensed doctors who changed their careers to being acupuncturists. Both wonderful health providers. When I moved to Illinois I tried Frank's office. What he provided in treatment was not good and left me with a huge amount of pain. I felt that he was trying to act like a doctor. At one point he tried the needle which runs current through it. My body flinched out of a normal physical reaction and he mildly chastised me for moving. I have never been so upset with a health provider as I am now about Frank. read more

My experience in the past was that acupuncture worked but was too expensive and they doled out help in little cookie crumb amounts of work at a time and would only work on one issue at a time. Yes, acupuncture works! I've suffered from IBS pain and bloating for decades, changed my diet numerous times, tried over the counter and prescription meds, etc. Frank Grill explained how acupuncture has helped his other patients and his plan of treatment for me. After four sessions, two times per week, I saw a definite improvement in my symptoms - and it keeps improving. We then moved treatments to once a week, then once every two weeks, eventually moving to once a month, or finishing treatment. I went to the Naperville Acupuncture Center because I was in severe back pain. Prescription pain killers did not help at all, I could not walk without a walker and had gone over a week without being able to sleep for more than a few minutes at a time. Frank and Angela are two of the most compassionate and caring caretakers that I have ever come across. They were patient and concerned about my health. My treatments with Frank were the only time I could rest uninterrupted, and they helped me be able to bear the pain until I was able to get surgery for a badly herniated disc and degenerated disc. His knowledge and expertise are incredible, and he is personable and caring on top of it! I thought my initial treatment was good and I, quite frankly, felt a bit better. But my second and third treatments were quite different. During my first meeting with Frank, he was congenial, seemed knowledgeable and professional. During my subsequent treatments Frank breezed into the room, spoke almost not at all, put the needles in place and left the room without any questions regarding my prior treatment(s) results. His office person, Angela, removed the needles. Angela is very personable. Once home I decided that I didn't care for the treatment I received. So, I called their office and left a message that I would not be returning (I had three more visits scheduled). I was never called back. I have been seeing Dr. Frank Grill at NAC since May 2008 for migraine and sinus\allergy problems. Previous to seeing him I used to suffer from at least one migraine a week and had to take at least 2 allergy pills every morning to be able to function throughout the day. After 11 years of intense pain going to doctor to doctor for answers, I was told by the head of GI at Northwestern that I needed multiple surgeries (I was even recommended to go to Mayo clinic). In April of 2010 I experience severe lower back pain. MRI showed L5 bulged disc, and moderate degenerative disc disease. For 3 to 4 mths I tried physical therepy and 2 sessions of the steriod shot in the L5 directly. During these months I experienced siadic pain and numming in the toes off and on. The most painful thing to do was sitting especially in the car. I was coming up to my 3rd steriod shot and did not want to and I did not feel real resoltes, so I looked elsewhere, ACUPUNCTURE. My 1st acup. session I experienced more mobility without pain the 2nd session my siadic pain was GONE. At the beginning I would go to acup. once a week for 2months and during this time I was still doing all my excercises from my physical therapy. I am a strong believer in ACUPUNCTURE AND IN FRANK. I have had terrible neck pain for months from badly spraining a previous injury. It has kept me from sleeping at night even with pain medicine, or kept me from doing much during the day as any movement got it aching. I have been to the Naperville Acupuncture clinic only twice so far and I really feel like a new person. I have very little neck pain and my whole body feels better. The little bit of soreness I now have is in places I can locate and massage, not deep inside the muscle tissue. Acupuncture there is an easy procedure where you lay back and he puts a few tiny acupuncture needles in classic places and then you just relax for an hour. The doctor is very kind and makes sure that you are comfortable and Angela, his receptionist, is a licensed nurse that also makes sure that you are comfortable. He offers very reasonable prices also.
