Amazing experience at TWH Social. Food and drinks were delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. There are seatings for booth, regular tables and high-top bar seating. Located in the basement of The Walper Hotel, and home of Rusty Nail Comedy as well. The Octopus appetizer was very good, and the Salmon on lemon risotto with a bit of beet sauce was amazing. The salmon skin was nice and crispy, made to perfection! Highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the area or staying at The Walper Hotel :) read more

TWH Social is a hidden gem. Situated beneath the historic Walper Hotel, this sexy little dungeon boasts one of the best brunches in town, a steak that will blow your mind, and a fantastic wine and spirits selection. I had the ribeye medium rare. It was rich, tender, and cooked to perfection, with a nice celeriac and polenta mash and snappy green beans on the side. Babe had the smoked chicken, which was juicy and could have just come off a wood fire in Memphis, it was so good. Wine selection was fun and there was lots to choose from, with Canadian, US, French, Italian, and other world varietals. Shoutout to Paddy, our excellent and gracious server. We felt welcome and very well taken care of, making for a great date night. read more

Great night at TWH Social! We had some fabulous cocktails - the espresso martini, raspberry fizz and golden pear mule - were standouts. We shared the goat cheese and calamari. The goat cheese dip is a must get! The salmon entree, steak and frites along with the pear and prosciutto salad were all great dishes. Our server, Miro, was excellent! Went here on a Sunday for my and my fiancés anniversary and it was great! Our server was super knowledgeable about the wine list and gave us a great recommendation. He was super kind as well. We had the 2016 organized crime Chardonnay and it was lovely. It paired great with our truffle pasta and trout. Both dishes were great, very rich in flavour. They were restaurant was very quiet and it felt like an intimate setting. I would recommend checking it out! read more

TWH Social = The Walper Hotel Social. The Hotel is nice, the collection of shops on street level are cool (esp. Walper Tobacco). I almost missed this place altogether. There were signs on the outside but no way to get in. If you walk around a bit, you'll notice another sign (still on King Street) that takes you into what seems to be an office building...Bingo! That's the one. Then you'll see a glowing TWH Social arrow pointing downstairs. As you walk into the dungeon level, the restaurant opens up. Exposed brick like walls with frosted windows illumiate to give a feeling that you are not underground. Good use of lighting along the long bar and raised booths completes the place. The have a decent menu and have lunch specials also. Went for the Montecristo - not a total fail but really didn't like it. Local crafted beer was cool. My colleague had a meal from the menu instead of the special - a pasta. Said it was decent. So basically not wow'd by the food. Atmosphere and drinks seems to be the big thing here. Not the food. In my decades of dining in restaurants around the world, I have never before had to get up and leave before the meal was served because the order took too long to fill. Never. We arrived at 6:20 p.m. with a reservation booked directly through the hotel, where we were staying. The restaurant was packed and we were led to a high top in the back corner beside the kitchen, even though a booth by the bar was available. It took almost 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order, and another 10 for the drinks to arrive and our order to be taken. Since we assessed that the restaurant seemed overwhelmed, we ordered just large salads. A couple of minutes after placing our order, my partner flagged down the waitress and asked her for a plate of fries to start (again, fast and easy). Her response: "Well, your dinner order has already been put in, so I can't guarantee you'll get them first." For the next hour, we watched the various wait staff rush around the room looking unhappy, stressed, and confused --and rarely with any food in their hands. We looked around and noticed that very few tables actually had any food in front of them, aside from a few that had ordered the bread and onion dip appetizer. At one point, the hostess left and then returned, buttoning up a white chef's tunic and putting up her hair (while behind the bar in plain view). This did not bode well. We, along with many other patrons as it turned out, had tickets to an 8 p.m. show at Centre in the Square, so we were getting worried. A table for 5 next to us asked their waiter where their food was (they had arrived much earlier than us), and they were told it would still be another "10 minutes or so," so they said to cancel their orders. We followed suit, as did another pair near the bar. The staff was apologetic but offered no excuse beyond that they were "very busy." We paid for our drinks (which should have been comped, frankly), and rushed out to get to the show after foolishly sitting in that dark, dreary space for 105 minutes. We had planned to have brunch there the next morning, but after this experience there was no way we were giving them a second chance. We checked out at 9:30 AM and picked up breakfast from Starbucks on the way out of town. read more

We have been to TWH Social many times, and went recently for my partners birthday and had a wonderful time. Our waiter, Miro, was the BEST! He was so friendly and attentive, I couldn't have asked for better service. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, shared the arancini, and had the striploin and braised beef pasta mains. Went here for dinner and drinks with a girlfriend on a Saturday night this winter. LOVED it. Our waiter and bartender (Ryan) made the whole experience. We had 5 or 6 cocktails (some of which we let them choose) and had the charcuterie board and salads. Food was awesome. Place wasn't buy at all though. It's in the bottom of he hotel but doesn't feel like it, I just wish it was on the main level because in the summer I hate being indoors. Went back again for brunch in a Saturday and place was empty again. Different staff but food was still good. Bathrooms are awesome. I liked the decor overall- modern but warm. Long bar as well. Coming in from Texas... I always enjoy stopping in for a bite to eat as they are open later than normal. They are super close to the hotels I stay at. The Oysters here are fantastic and on some nights even part of their specials. Somehow they can turn a regular oyster into an amazing and tasty meal. The staff here are amazing and always really friendly... Definitely makes me feel right at home. They usually have a live performer who fills the room with tunes but not over bearing that you can't hear or speak. Highly recommend stopping in for a local draft or a great coffee (Irish coffee is pretty good as well). read more

I came here with my boyfriend for some apps and drinks. We were staying at the Walper hotel and this is kind of their restaurant so it was super convenient to eat here. Drinks kind of pricey, not crazy but not cheap. I loved the menu. You can tell they switch it up often and what they have they do well. We ended up getting the "roasted tomato and goat cheese bruschetta" and the " black pepper calamari". Bother we're amazing tasting, but the portion size was real small. Like not even half a squid and 3 half pieces of toast all around. However I saw some mains coming out of the kitchen and they looked like good sized portions. My boyfriend also got a cosmo and I could hear the, I assume manager, telling the bartender how to make one. Which honestly I loved because I also manage a restaurant and often have to google drink recipes haha. Over all pretty good. read more

I just thought the dish items didn't come together, I.e prosciutto kale flatbread it was good fresh n fresh but had potential to be better ingredient types wise and as a special 17$ was a bit much. Soup was 10$ a tad pricey and portions small. Menu looked promising and if in town I'd walk In here again. Good bordering on very good craft tap list. I went to TWH Social last week for their Buck a Shuck oyster night! I can honestly say, I was blown away right from the start!! The decor is spot on and the hostess was so lovely. Our server Alex may have been the best server my family and I have ever had. I strongly recommend requesting him when you make your reservation. Now on to the food! Honestly, every bite was delicious. The oysters were so fresh with delicious toppings. The fries were maybe the best frites in KW and the tenderloin was the same. They make everything in house and you can really tell. The live music was definitely the cherry on top. Geez, can you tell I liked it here? I would have given the 5 stars if they had soy milk for my latte but other than that, it was a perfect night! read more

Came on Monday night for their $5 mussel bowls and was not disappointed. A classy restaurant that's great for a date night - not too crowded and the space is quite comfortable. As for their daily deal, they offer three flavor profiles (not sure if it's different on a weekly basis): white wine and garlic, creamy coconut Thai, and beer and bacon (which sounds odd but definitely the best flavor!) While the portions aren't huge (counted 13 mussels in a bowl), it was satisfying enough for me to get two portions. My friends didn't feel the same and had to get more food afterwards but I'd come back for their buck a shuck Thursdays! read more

TWH Social - Creamy Thai Coconut mussels ($5 Monday deal) - Bars Near Me - Kitchener, Ontario

I was in there tonight with a group of 10 from work. We made a reservation in advance as it was a group outing & we weren't sure how busy it would be. I arrived a little later than most, but settled in - to my surprise with a smaller menu. Apparently as we were a group, we were given a more limited menu, which I'm surprised we weren't informed about when we made the reservation. Our waiter allowed a few of us to order of the original dinner menu, however he made it seem as if he was doing us a favour. Overall throughout the night he continued to make comments that made it seem like he was going above and beyond for us, even though we were asking for simple things that a server should normally tend to. For example, my coworker ordered the gnocchi which wasn't on the group menu, and when asked how it was she responded with "It was alright" to which he replied "Alright? It BETTER be good." We think he was trying to be funny, but it was actually coming across quite rude. He also dropped one of the cookies that came with the crème brûlée, yet despite serving it to numerous people didn't say that he accidentally dropped one & he'd be back with a replacement. My coworker actually had to ask for it, and he didn't seem pleased he had to go and get another. In regards to the food & drinks, I ordered their Groundskeeper Willy as I'm a huge fan of gingerbeer, and it was quite delicious. I'd have ordered another if I wasn't driving. For dinner I started with their $5 Mussel Monday Bowl in a white wine & garlic "sauce"... there honestly wasn't much sauce. You could taste a bit of garlic, but overall the taste was a little bland. I recently had the mussels at Borealis and they were 10x better than these. A few people at our table also complained that theirs seemed a little undercooked. As an entrée I had the Thai Chicken, which was quite delicious. The chicken could have used a little more seasoning in my opinion, but that's also because I like stronger flavours. I loved the dressing for the salad it came with, it was delicious. Unless there's an event happening or I'm just going for a drink or two, I don't think I'll be back. read more

This place was completely dead when we went and I couldn't believe it after we'd had the food! The location is downtown, which is cool, but it is downstairs, so it can be a little claustrophic. There were no vegan items on the menu, so we talked the server who talked to chef and he created a vegan meal on the spot for me, which was to die for. The service was great, the food was yummy. Attended The Social a couple weeks ago and my mouth still drools when I think about the Truffle Risotto. There was a coat checker when you walk in. The renos inside the bar must have cost a fortune. I've been here a few times for lunch and dinner. My fav drink is their pear martini. Mushroom risotto is my absolute fav dish here but I dont think they serve it anymore. I was very sad. We just went there for the drink. The place is underground, which looks very mysterious. The restaurant is spectacular inside. The restaurant design is really unique and beautiful. As well as the bar. We ordered 3 or 4 cocktails. Tried almost the specials. The cocktails are really good. When we had no ideas for order, the server gave us the really useful suggestions. Their advices really in accordance with what I am wondering. The service was really perfect. We will back to this place someday. read more

We made reservations last night for 4. Upon arrival, we were put at the back of the bar sitting at a high table on stools as nothing else was available. Why did you take the reservation? We asked for a 'real' table, but we were told this was all there was as the last table had just been seated. It was quite loud - so loud that we had to yell to be heard speaking across the table. Unacceptable as far as we're concerned. Make up your mind, are you a bar with good food, or a restaurant that sits guests in the bar even if they have reservations. Most good restaurants will offer the bar seating as an alternative to a table when they are busy and a guest DOES NOT HAVE RESERVATIONS. Too expensive for what is offered. read more

While the staff were friendly and eager to please, anyone who is not April struggles to complete simple tasks. I threw a surprise party for my husband and required use of their wireless music system and smart TV - no one knew how to use any of it and it took one of my guests to acquire a wireless speaker from their Jazz club which he had to carry over while manager Ricardo followed behind him. My guests arrived at 2pm and it took an hour and a half to get them to turn the AC on bc they were waiting for a tech. We had been here before and were pleased with the food; unfortunately the appetizers I selected for the party were below average at best with the exception of the Arancini - but even the last order of those were raw. I expected the chicken grilled cheese to be an artisan type selection and it was literally some cheddar cheese and bland chicken breast between two pieces of what looked to be Country Harvest Toast Bread. Cool vibe though and great atmosphere - staff are kind and polite; too bad everything else fell short. read more

Great dining room for my home away from home at Walper. The food is savory and tasty, uses solid ingredients, and is delivered by a wait staff that make every effort to make guests feel at home and well taken-care of from start to finish. Danielle greeted my during my last visit, after arriving straight from a cross-continental flight, and remembered me as soon as I walked in months later. I couldn't feel like more of the family! My husband and I went here last night and, while we had a good time, I'm not sure we'd be back. Drinks: The drinks were $9 each and they are SO SMALL. We're not big drinkers and yet we both finished our drinks before the mains came out, in about 3 sips... We were both driving and only wanted one drink each, plus didn't want to spend $18 x 2 on a few sips, so that's all we had to drink! Disappointing. Food: We had the $2 oysters which were delicious, and then I had the burger and harvest salad while my husband ordered the pasta and a side of fries. I loved all of the food but my husband found his portion to be too small. Atmosphere/Service: The restaurant is very nicely done up and while it wasn't all that busy, I thought it was nice. The biggest drawback is that there are TVs behind the bar down the entire restaurant so my husband kept watching - annoying for a nice meal out! Looking around, it seemed like every guy in the restaurant was watching the TVs. I also think it's a bit too bright in there - if they dimmed the white lights along the side of the restaurant, I think the atmosphere would be nicer. The service was fast. read more

Very contemporary atmosphere, great for a date, or to catch up with a friend and there are larger areas for groups too. I've been here many times, and while the food is usually high quality and delicious, the portions are awfully small. One day recently, the waiter rhymed off the list of daily specials and suggested a fish dish, which I ordered. When it arrived, I was struck by how tiny it was, essentially a fish stick in a basic tomato sauce bed. Quite dry and tasteless too. When I got the bill and discovered it was $30, I wondered why this would be recommended as a special. In short, daily special here means something other than good value or quality - probably means profitable. The take-away though is that the menu portions are unusually small here, except for burgers that come with fries. When I ordered the fish, the waiter did not warn me that it wouldn't really constitute a meal, and seemed defensive and surprised when I expressed that it's much smaller than would be expected for an entree. I get that it's a gastropub and maybe to some that means artificially limiting how much is served, but patrons should consider that you will probably need to order an appetizer if you're at dinner with a normal dinner time hunger. I'm not a big guy nor a big eater. With one pint then the total came to just under $80 for one person, you can easily have a much more interesting dining experience nearby for that price. read more

The lady said that would not be a problem and I waited until 7:40 with not one of the four meals arriving. I left just paying for the drinks which took another 7-8 minutes. This was the most awful dining experience I have had in a long time. I come here for some nice brunch because I am staying at the Walper, which is a lovely hotel, and it was a full on shit show. I come in at 10 and no one is there, no waitresses or anything. After about 5 minutes we just grab some menus lying around and seat ourselves randomly. About 10 minutes later my mother went into the kitchen to try to find someone, 5 minutes after that someone finally comes to take our order. We did not get our coffees we ordered until 11:15. The food, cold, and incorrect to our orders arrived 5 minutes before the coffee. At the end there were no apologies made from the staff and we promptly left. One star. Do not recommend. read more

Took my wife here for a date and left so disappointed. The Drinks were terrible, high priced for two sips. More ice than alcohol. So disappointing. The cheese dip was also one of the worst we have ever had - the portion was small, served with greasy chips, and the flavour of the dip was awful, tasted like a bunch of salt and onion. And I've seen pub food presented nicer for a third of the price. On top of that the staff seemed arrogant and ignored us for most of our visit. It seemed like they were too proud to serve and my wife felt if we even complained about the meal or asked for something else we would be met with a confrontation. I was excited to experience the restaurant since I have not been since it was actually "The Walper". The atmosphere was fantastic, I really liked the set up - where this review takes a turn for the worst is in the service. Prior to even taking our coats off, Blair inquired as to what we wanted to drink. Nice that he wanted to start us off, but we had JUST just sat down (again our coats weren't even off), he gave us less then five minutes and was already back. Again, I appreciate the request to keep us hydrated.. We eventually ordered, but Blair seemed to be very pushy and not really interested in being there. (we shrugged it off as he was just new, we continued to enjoy our meal and our company). Our only comment on the meal, my friend had a butter tart that she found to be stale, but besides that, while we were having our desert and coffee, Blair brought the bills and while we were still enjoying our coffee and chit-chat, the waiter was right there with the POS Pad for payment. The whole dinner seemed very rushed and although the atmosphere was pleasant and the food was good, it left a bad taste in our mouth. Sadly Disappointed. read more
