We live in B'ham, Wa & decided to cross the border for what turned out to be such an amazing & close by Drive-In. The one we normally go to is much further. This a a great Drive-In with really no bad views at all. We arrived 1.5hrs early to ensure a prime spot. They had a Cash line & a Cash/Debit line to enter. The line moved quickly. Very clean location. I recommend to bring cash. Lots of great options for food & snacks. There is nothing to do before the movie starts so if you have kids bring a ball or cards to pass the time. Great value as we went to a Triple showing. We had a truck but I watched 2 movies in my chair. Clean location, family friendly, clean bathrooms, attendants walking around which was great. Only down side was people do smoke & that lingers for a bit.

    Family blocking our view

This place was an absolute blast! So fun to sit back in your car seat and have your whole car be the sound of the giant picture playing in front of you. The only draw back are people who don't listen to the rules. My friend and I couldn't see the whole screen and asked the family in front of us if they could tie down their hatch back. It could've easily been done but they claimed there was nothing they could do. I wish there was someone to call or someone monitoring. I tried calling and I just got a thank you message and was hung up on. We moved spots and things worked out. Overall a great experience. I recommend and will be coming back!

We have a family tradition of going to this drive-in every summer. Before the movie starts, there are lots of kids and moms and dads playing in front of the big screen. Nothing like burning off some energy before having to sit still to watch a movie! I remember doing this as a kid back East. My son loves it:) We went on a 'family' movie day of sorts, as two out of the three movies playing that night were for kids. We saw Planes and Monsters University. The big kids came in for Iron Man 3 just as we were leaving. There is a concession stand to purchase snacks as bringing your own is seriously frowned upon and you will be kicked out if they catch you with your bag of microwave popcorn, biatch! Keep the drive-in running, buy some snacks! Note: The guy at the front gate hands you a plastic bag so you can throw away your food wrappers, cans etc. so they won't go accusing you of bringing food in. I thought it was totally weird and random our first trip there, so I thought it worth mentioning. Bring the family and enjoy this retro family fun experience!

I LOVE LOVE love love love love love love love LOVE The Twilight Drive-in Theatre. It is the *best* part of my summers. I used to work in Aldergrove so we'd go on a Saturday night with a whole group, a pick up truck, and lots of pillows and blankets. The parking stalls are separated by poles (which used to hold the speakers in the old days) but now you tune in on your car radio. There is separate over-height parking for SUVs, pick ups, minivans, and any other large vehicles. But really.... with a GIANT screen (92' by 40'), there is no real bad spot in the place. Prices are approx. $11 for each adult, for double or triple features during the main season. You pay for entrance, per person, not per movie. Gates usually open about 45min. before show time and the first movie starts at dusk. The 3rd movie goes until 4am sometimes but you can leave at any time (just be respectful and don't turn on your lights). Lawn chairs, air mattresses, foamies, pillows and blankets are all allowed as long as you only use your own space (in front of your vehicle). I always bring pajamas, a sleeping bag, slippers, and a pillow with me. Twilight Drive-In plays *current* and new movies. The first movie is usually family-friendly and sometimes the 3rd movie is something already on DVD but usually isn't more than a couple years old. Just to name a few: I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3, Shrek 2, Toy Story 3, Iron Man, Transformers 1 & 2, Thor, Night at the Museum 2, Angels & Demons, Star Trek, Robin Hood, Killers, Repo Men, Indiana Jones (Crystal Skull). I don't know the entire history of the theatre, but apparently it was built in 1938. The Rio is known for screening cult classic movies and live shows, and in 2012, it fought the outdated BC Liquor board so that movie theatres could serve alcohol -- a big win! In the past, I have gone to a handful of shows (mostly movies showing at the Vancouver International Film Festival), but I didn't go often for two reasons: many of the movies I was interested in started way too late for me (such as at 9:30pm or 11pm), and years ago, I had a really negative experience. I don't recall when the incident happened -- perhaps it was after they had acquired a liquor licence -- but you had to be 19+ to go (that's the legal drinking age here), and while I was much older than 19, apparently I looked young, so I used to get so much shit for my appearance. Shortly before the event, my ID had expired and I was waiting for a new one to come in the mail. In the meantime, I was using my passport as ID. The person at the door was extremely rude and aggressive and made a big deal of specifically asking ME for ID -- from his tone, I think he didn't expect me to be of age. I pulled out my wallet from my purse to grab my ID, then remembered that I didn't have it as it was being renewed, so put it back into my purse and reached for my passport. As I was reaching for my passport, the rude and aggressive employee sneered, "Oh, you forgot your ID, I see, huh?" Yes, even thought this was nearly 15 years ago, I still remember this incident, and it always upset me. The guy was so fucking rude. Also, they used to insist on stamping your hand, and I hate having the inside of my wrist stamped because the ink rubs off on the side of my shirt, so prefer to have the top of my hand stamped. This guy was also rude about this. Anyway, due to events not working with my schedule and my encounter with the rude employee, I had little interest in going to the Rio unless it was for the film festival. However, recently, there have been several events I have been interested in: a screening of The Shawshank Redemption with a Q&A with Gil Bellows in July; a screening of The Room presented by Greg Sestero in August; a screening of Clue in October; a screening of the original Carrie presented by Mike Flanagan in October; and a film festival movie in October. And each time I had a great experience -- no more rude and aggressive employees! The most recent event I went to was John Waters live on December 3. My husband is a huge John Waters fan, so I bought tickets for his show. However, I had only bought the regular tickets, and my husband then told me he would have liked the VIP tickets (better seats, a signed poster, a post-show Q&A). On the Rio website, they clearly state that all sales are final and that tickets cannot be returned or exchanged. So what did I do? Emailed them asking if I could exchange the regular tickets for the more expensive VIP tickets, despite their policy. Their answer was an enthusiastic "absolutely!" and it was easy to exchange the tickets. Amazing customer service! I am a fan of the Rio and I look forward to seeing more shows and events! Tickets are around $7 per adult, and you get to watch 2 movies. They also have an arcade and a huge food menu, which makes it feel more like a full night out instead of just watching a movie. The food itself is nothing amazing. We got the curly fries and they were a little soggy for our liking, but honestly I'd still order food there again because it feels like part of supporting the place. The whole spot has that small local community feel, and you can tell it's one of those places people keep coming back to for the experience. If you've never been to a drive-in before, this is such a fun one to try. I'd take this over a regular movie theater any day.

I didn't know that my husband had purchased special tickets with motion vibrating seats, synchronized to the movie sounds effects. I spent the first 5 minutes completely annoyed that my chair wouldn't recline and an annoying massage feature to go along with that. After learning it was a special feature, I turned it back on. The vibrations do add to the experience, but I can't say that it is for me. The vibrating seats are stiff, narrow and very upright. I'd much rather have plush reclining seats as an added feature. The seat next to me had its rubber seat trim fallen off and hanging on the floor ++tripping hazard on the upper row. I appreciate all the innovative and different movie viewing options offered at this location. I even saw a sensory viewing option for autistic viewers??

That said, the popcorn was filled to the brim with that buttery goodness one would expect from a cinema outing. While it was a bit salty, the extra salt averted the need to run to the restroom during a three-hour long film and that was appreciated as it allowed me to enjoy the film in its totality. The food court offered: hot dogs, pulled-pork burgers, and fries: not a large selection of items but delicious especially when you consider the decent amount of toppings offered at the topping bar. The restroom was accommodating although some of the toilets would not flush as if they had been overused and had long since given up the ghost. Nevertheless, I was able to perform the deed in peace. Nice job, Cineplex.
