All of the sites are charming in their own right and the access to the lake is wonderful, providing a truly stunning view and wonderful place to cool off. The owners take great pride in the property that they have curated, and it is evident in every inch of the campsite. The facilities are cleaned daily, firewood is available, and the owners are a wealth of local knowledge and insight. this is by far the best campsite we have ever stayed at, the tone set by the owners really does attract a certain level of campers that are respectful and pleasant, there was no loud music, late nights or bright lights blazing through the night. This is an absolutely perfect place to decompress and enjoy the scenery. We cannot wait to come back!

The pool has been filled in with dirt and the playground is ancient. There is some sort of shuffleboard court, a laundry room, and a game room that I didn't see. The bathroom is clean with hot showers, though you have to pull on a string to keep the water running. Very inconvenient though it keeps folks from wasting water. Overall no complaints. I'm glad I found the place, frugal camper that I am.

We got there and backed in. We liked the site at first, but decided to drive around the loop next door in search of a more suitable site. One was found that was unoccupied so we went back to the gatehouse to ask for a possible change. "Sure, no problem." He checked it and it was open. Our new site had privacy, good space, was clean and near a water spigot, the bathrooms, and was only a couple of sites from the manager, Steve, his wife Kay, and great dogs Kaya and Trump. Steve and Kay were friendly, informative, and went above and beyond to help us with any needs (like jumping my truck battery that I ran down while setting up camp with the doors open for too long.) Both dogs were very friendly and fun to visit with. Other positives included hikes along the lake, swimming at the Buck Pond beach (one young guy fishing from a kayak caught a 3.5 lb largemouth bass), and much, much more. Overall, Buck Pond Campground was a fine place to stay and enjoy the Adirondacks!

The sites are nicely spaced so that you're not bumping up against an RV rave. As with any campground, some sites are significantly nicer than others. We were in site 84, pretty damn sweet with its own little trail to the lake. Not gonna divulge what we scouted as THE best which you need to reserve 9 months in advance FYI. Schedule that with your French Laundry resies. They also had boat rentals and a map of the many waterways to explore. Highly suggest the rope swing if you come across it on Rainbow Lake. The ranger/campground manager Bob is just generally awesome. He fueled our little firelet into a great big burner. Smoky the Bear, watch out! Bob also has a ski store in Jay, NY and is a part time maple syrup maker should anyone fancy a winter excursion to the Adirondacks.

We had the best summer at the pool. We met so many new friends, enjoyed weekly events, spontaneous bubble parties for kids... the memories we made are priceless. We so grateful as the season comes to an end and already looking forward to next year. It was fabulous to slow time down and enjoy a good old fashioned summer. We never purchased access to the WiFi because we felt it important to be device free as much as possible. The whole team has been kind, fun, and inviting. Smuggler's Notch State Park provides hiking, camping, nature programs, and mountain biking…read more Smuggler's Notch Park got its name because In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson passed an embargo act forbidding American trade with Great Britain and Canada. This was a severe hardship for northern Vermonters, since Montreal was closer than other markets in the US. Many local people continued illegal trade with Canada, herding cattle and carrying other goods through the Notch. Later, fugitive slaves used the Notch as an escape route to Canada. During the Prohibition years, liquor was smuggled from Canada over the improved road built in 1922. My mother and I just rode through and it was miles of the park with different areas to explore. The we're many hikers and explorers out. All I can say is the mountains are beautiful and the atmosphere is amazing. I would definitely want to come back in fall to see the trees change colors.

I won't go in to the embarrassing and awful details of my first night at the campsite but let's…read morejust say if it wasn't for the generosity and over-the-top unbeatable hospitality of Martha, owner of Maple Hill, and her family (and friends), our weekend would have been absolutely ruined. Maple Hill offers an in-expensive and convenient camping experience for those looking to go hiking or sight seeing in the Bristol/Waterbury area. The "downtown" of Bristol is a short drive away if you need to buy supplies or want a nice evening out for dinner and ice cream. They have both wooded and field sites you can get a nice spot right on the river. There is also a bathhouse with running water, showers, and flush toilets. I have never been so pleased with an experience of true human compassion and the people running this campground are what all humans should achieve to be. I know this review may be somewhat cryptic but might I just add: Make sure that you remember that the road for the campground is located across the street from the white house and not to find yourself going down a rocky dirt road in the dark, in a rainstorm, in the fog....Things may not end up well for you haha. Anyways, Martha is the best and thank God for AAA. Check in and registration is at the white house and campsites run about 25/night for non electric sites.

The field sites are huge, and open... they don't offer the privacy but would be a fantastic place camp with a group and stargaze. Maybe the only time I have used a campground bathroom and not had to avoid the hordes of harvestmen/daddylong-legs. And the bathroom lights are solar powered! Super nice owner, low rates, very clean grounds. It's close to some neat swimming holes, hiking and mountain biking trails, as well.
