1. DO NOT take an uber/Lyft/taxi here. They do not allow drop offs and you cannot walk into the falls area, even if you manage to park down the road somewhere. There is a small parking lot tightly controlled by very aggressive locals who really seem quite angry that tourists come to visit, and they control the entrance to the park. Drive to the place and pray they let you park there - it's really all luck. Maybe go early (although we got there around 9am and the lot was already full). 2. If you do take an uber/Lyft/taxi here, ***YOU WILL BE STRANDED***. Not enough cell reception for the apps to load when you want to call a car to come get you, and no cars will come there anyway. We were rejected by the parking lot/park attendants (because we were on foot) and told to hitchhike back. I wish we had known this before we went there, but there was nothing in their website, on yelp, or on trip advisor. Thus, I am sharing hoping to spare someone else. 3. We did eventually gain access to the park - one of the attendants eventually felt sorry for us standing across the road with our thumbs out. The waterfalls are pretty, but not spectacular. The hike is pretty easy for experienced hikers, and it is not long. Plenty of shade, beautiful trails, giant bamboo. We spent about 2 hours there, took our time. 4. We spoke to a local who lives in the area, who told us that the locals there really resent all the tourists. "Don't move here, and tell your friends not to come visit here." read more

Beware the Power-Tripping Parking Nazis! This was supposed to be our first big stop on our RTH journey. We arrived pretty early (around 8:30), were waved into the lot, and were ordered by the young female parking attendant to back into an extremely tight spot when the lot was barely half full. I started trying to back our Jeep rental in (it was our 1st day so I wasn't 100% comfortable with the car yet), but I could see that we weren't going to be able to get our kids out of their child seats in the back, so I abandoned ship and went down about 3 spaces to a spot where I could fit. The attendant began yelling and berating us for not parking where she told us to park, while we tried to (initially) calmly explain that we couldn't fit there and get our kids out. She told us that another Jeep had just been parked there and that the spot was the perfect size for our Jeep. Again, we tried to explain that we had kids in the back that we needed to get out and we preferred to avoid door dings. She continued verbally harassing us, so I lost my temper and raised my voice a bit (I was also inside the car and she was about 50 feet away so I wanted to make sure she heard me) to tell her we weren't going to fit. She took offense that I "screamed" at her, then her colleague came over to tell us to leave. We were stunned and confused. Our 4yo and 2yo boys missed out on seeing Twin Falls and were verbally abused because we wouldn't park where they told us to. Don't piss off the incredibly rude power-tripping parking nazis if you want to see this place. Fortunately, the rest of our RTH and Maui experience was pretty amazing, so we didn't let these people ruin our trip. Plenty more awesome places to stop and see (FOR FREE!) on the RTH so definitely feel free to skip this one. Maybe if they get fewer visitors, they'll stop treating people like garbage. read more

Falls are ok, Falls on big island are much better. Staff are a bunch of ignorant, rude locals who now are forced to work instead of collecting unemployment. They can complain all they want about tourists but yet are dependent on tourism and government subsidies. read more

The first time we went they had two parking lots opened. On Sunday they opened one and this RUDE traffic controller has a sign saying parking lot full and angrily says to us to keep driving around, to where?! When you tell this to people who don't know the roads you slow traffic and possibly create an accident waiting to happen. If you don't like your job then don't work for a tourism place. read more

You drive up and pay $10 to park no big deal. Wear shoes you want to get wet because to make it kin of a road hike nothing crazy you will get your feet wet. You can wear swim wear and take a dip too. It's a nice easy hike. Down side there is no toilet paper in the out houses so bring your own. One would think at $10 per car for maybe an hour stay they would put toilet paper in the outhouses read more

The trail is very easy despite the scary warning signs. My pregnant friend was able to make it almost all the way. The trickiest part is getting across the stream. I didn't want to get my tennis shoes wet (one of my pet peeves) so I crossed the stream barefoot. Some of the rocks are very slippery and bumpy which poked the bottom of my foot. You might want to pack a pair of flip flops to cross the stream. Also..... with water and humidity comes.... MOSQUITOES! I have no idea why no one in my group thought about bug spray but we definitely paid the price the next day. We were all itching on the plane back home! We went in March and the waterfall was very unimpressive. It wasn't as nice as the buzzfeed video I saw on Facebook. It was an experience but there may be bigger and nicer waterfalls on another trail. Also, to be able to take a nice picture, you have to step into the water where there are rocks that hurt your feet. Easy to find and an easy hike to the first falls. The hike is one mile roundtrip so this can be easily done by parents with children. The only drawback is getting to the second falls which will get your shoes wet unless you are in water shoes or flip flops. There are warning signs not to take any fruit with you as there are invasive tiny ants around this location. read more

Five out of five! The location is easy to find, go EARLY, it's parking lots full up fast ... But you can keep trying throughout the morning as the owners are really on their game and will track everyone in or out. Gorgeous, easy hike. Ends at a lovely waterfall for swimming! Keep your shoes on the whole way, you'll walk through a couple streams and muddy areas, and the waterfall pool basin is lined with rocks. Expect to wash and leave your shoes to dry when you get back to hotel for a day or two! Well worth it... Don't pay for a service to take you, you can do it yourself and it's easy in and out for $10 parking fee. You may even meet the landowner's daughter - she's a sweetheart and ready with great advice. read more

SPOILER If you've seen my previous hike reviews as much as I am for adventures and the art of getting lost, sometimes I am on a time constraint. As much as I enjoyed the experienced and time wandering in the wild, I REALLY needed to get where I needed to be. However the directions are pretty self-explanatory as the paths are pretty straight forward. Here was my experience on a Sunday morning (7:30am). Directions: If you see a truck selling food, then that's where the entrance is, if it's packed just drive a quarter of a mile for open street parking. The first fall isn't that far at all (half a mile), 2nd fall is another half mile down and the 3rd fall is about a mile with a stream and one narrow ridge to cross. Hiking Difficulty: Easy They're generally family friendly hikes. You just have to be careful on the slippery rocks, the stream, and a few rocky paths. Overall: 5 Stars. The path gifts you with some beautiful greenery, smooth path, and out of the ordinary plants. The water was cold and calm. The waterfalls were breathtaking and I enjoyed the multiple paths that can be taken (to the waterfall or as it falls). Some streams do lead to some adventurous routes (but I haven't tried it). The food truck at the entrance has some refreshing good eats and bug spray! Great place to go as you head towards the Road to Hanna. Advice: * Signal becomes extremely spotty * Come early to beat the hype (before 8am) * Bring bug spray, extra clothes, hiking shoes (so you don't slip as much) * Careful as sometimes the streams can be rougher than usual. read more

Don't go because you will be wasting your time, energy and drive from wherever you come. The person at the door didn't let us in because we don't have a car to park, we were dropped off by a taxi driver with a 2-hr scheduled ride, a 7- month pregnant and my husband literally standing on the side of the road in the middle of no where and no phone service because she wouldn't let us in. I've seen heartless people but not like this, no humanity whatsoever. A nice family who also drove an hr from Lahaina were declined to go in and they helped by getting us a ride to the nearest town. read more

CLOSED: due to the rain and flash flood threat. So sad! Was only able to go to the bottom part of the creek. Not sure if there's a way to check ahead of time if the trail is closed. OTHER: other than being closed and not being able to see the water falls, you do see exotic flowers and fruit along the way. FRUIT: Fruit stand offered some solace by buying a drinking coconut. They also offer eating coconuts. I wish the coconuts were chilled but still a nice touristy treat to sip coconut juice from a big green coconut $6. SHOES: Dirt path that has mud in some spots so definitely wear water shoes. Some people here say wear tennis shoes and change into water shoes later but in my opinion just wear water shoes the whole time and save the weight of having to carry another pair of shoes. Unless your feet are super sensitive to rocks then the water shoes will be just fine. Walmart sells water shoes for $3-$10 very cheap. I wouldn't recommend flip flops because they can easily get stuck in mud and pull out the straps then you're really screwed! PARKING: luckily we found parking out front and like someone else said it makes sense to park near the fruit stand to avoid potential robbers. BUGS: I sprayed my clothes and exposed skin all over with OFF spray just to find this trail was closed but the short time I was there I didn't get bitten. I also wore long pants and long sleeves. My friends who wore shorts got bitten a couple of times so if you're like me with yummy blood then you may want to wear long pants and sleeves to be safe. Lighter colors are supposed to be best. I would like to come back and try this trail again when there isn't a flash flood threat. read more

Was excited to come here. The beauty of the falls grants it stars regardless. However, I was a little disappointed with the overall experience. Haha we really didn't know where we were going in terms of the exact location of the twin falls. We parked and started walking in. Apparently there was a small signed that pointed in is direction but none of saw it. That is until we came back. We walked up the trail and found a waterfall. Beautiful? Yes. But difficult to access it. You have to cross the little river and it will knock your flip flops off and wash them away haha. I wouldn't call it kid friendly. We made our way down to it. Water was freezing. Cool views and cool water. As we were coming back, we saw the little sign that said twin falls and then we finally saw it!!! It was a little easier to access as opposed the the falls at the top. Beautiful? Yes. It is a cool site to see but it's not a place you spend the whole day at. Definitely a great beginners trail to start the Road to Hana! Since it's just a trail, you can come here in whatever attire. But if you plan on going down the hill to the water, you better wear some sturdy water shoes! It's nearly impossible without shoes, and still difficult with any shoes without traction. The water is really refreshing though, so I think it's worth the trek. You can still see the nice waterfall once you get to the end of the trail, without walking down the rocks. read more

My family and I came to this section of falls when we were doing the Road to Hana trek and I was driving. Definitely a great place to stop by. I would suggest wearing water shoes and firm sandals as some parts can get slippery. The fall is very picturesque as you'll see a lot of people taking pictures and going into the water. The water is very frigid so swimmers beware but it definitely is a refreshing place to cool off. Parking is $10 and the parking does fill up fast, I almost missed the falls trailhead but luckily I was able to turn back and then get into the parking. I wish there wasn't any parking fee though and just have it build up until it's full but anyways, a decent hike. read more

Fantastic spot for a quick hiking trip! It is just down the road from the airport. There is one fall about a 7 minute walk in and the bigger picturesque fall another 15 minutes further. It is a very easy trail and is great for people of all ages and fitness levels. There is one spot where you have to cross over a bed of rocks in water so bring shoes that are easy to take on and off. read more

The Twin Falls Trail is a beautiful scenic activity that is completely free to enjoy! Tip: Bring sneakers for the trail and water shoes/sandals if you plan on swimming in the waterfall pool (which I highly recommend). The walk to the waterfall is about a mile hike through the Maui jungle. It's fairly easy, no long spurts of uphill or downhill walking. There is a lot of beautiful Hawaiian flowers, trees and plants along the hike. In order to get to the waterfall, you have to walk across a narrow concrete bridge and walk over the rocks in the creek. This is where the water shoes come in. I made the mistake of walking through the creek barefoot- big mistake! The rocks were sharp and coarse and my feet were in pain during the walk. However, the pain was totally worth it. The pool was extremely refreshing and it was so exciting to swim to the waterfall. The pool is at least 5 feet deep by the waterfall, so don't attempt this unless you can swim! We spent about 35 minutes swimming. It was an amazing experience. I would do it again (with water shoes) in a heartbeat! read more

Great waterfalls, but make sure you use the bathroom before you get here- the portable bathrooms are the worst i ever went to and actually had to run out of a few that were just unacceptable. They hadn't been cleaned out in several weeks for sure!!! The stench was bad. But besides that we had no trouble finding paid parking (we went early) and were able to visit both falls. I would recommend you bring swim shoes because to get to the other falls you will go through a stream and lots of mud which can be slippery in sandals and terrible for sneakers. We actually saw a lot of people turn around because they brought the wrong shoes! There's also a small stand that sells coconuts, snacks, and other drinks. Make sure to bring cash for the parking and of course don't forget your sunscreen. Have fun! read more

This is a must see place on the Road to Hana. The twin waterfalls roar through the rain forest. Stop and enjoy the sounds of the waterfalls and nature. The tropical plants are a joy to see and capture with ones camera. Also take a picture of you standing in front of the bamboo Forrest. It was raining when I went so they had the third and largest waterfall closed off due to flash flooding. It's the first stop on the road to Hana and the last stop to use the restroom. It was $10 to park. The hiking at the first two waterfalls was doable for a person of any mobility. We were in and out within the hour. Make sure to go early as well, or you may not be able to gain access. We got there around 7am and the lot was already almost full. read more

We encountered the rudest non friendly out right angry ballistic people I have ever dealt with! We drove in and instantly they were rude. $10 parking. I misunderstood her saying which way to go do instantly she was kissed off. Then we finally go the right way and she says park between the two black cars ... all cars are black in the parking lot so I pulled to the right and she yelled I said left. Instantly they were hostile and rude and we haven't even got out of the car....but wait it gets better... there's ports potties up by where you pay so we thought we will use them before we go ... zero signage on these porta potties non zilch and she yells those are for the staff the customers porta potties are over to left. So my husband with his $10 cash goes up to them and says you guys don't have to be rude and they retaliated and hated that they called them out. So they told us to take our $10 and leave. So we get back in the car and they have their "friend" follow us out of the parking lot in her white Toyota 4 Runner and ride our ass down the Highway. I stopped in the middle of the road and she got out of her car and yelled profanities at us telling us we were disrespecting her friends. We just stayed in the car. She threw her rice bowl at our car then drove off ... she pulled off the side of the road when we passed her she thru her water jug at our car. Nice place! Would never recommend them! Stay away if you see this 4 runner she's bad news. Twin Falls hike midget be beautiful but we will never know because the parking assistants were total assholes! read more

I loved this hike! The greenery, rocks, streams and waterfalls are everything you would hope to see on a hike in Hawaii. It is a relatively easy and serene walk despite the warning signs on the gate. I saw many elderly groups, couples with small kids and couples carrying babies on the way to the Twin Falls. Be sure to wear eco friendly sunscreen and bug spray. If you plan to walk all the way to the Twin Falls, I highly recommend water shoes with good grip. You will need to cross a couple streams with slippery and sharp rocks. I wore sneakers that were too nice to get wet so I traversed the streams barefoot which was very painful. I lived to tell the tale, but I was slipping and nearly falling with every step. There are two ponds which you can swim in--one at the very beginning of the trail and one beneath the Twin Falls. The waterfall is gentle enough to swim under--perfect for a cool go-pro video. The water is frigid but so refreshing in the tropical heat! Be sure to stop at the snack truck out front for some coconut candy and fresh cut Maui gold pineapple. read more

The Staffs Behavior is atrocious. Don't ruin your day here as they screen whom they allow in to the park whether spots are open or not. You can drive back and forth on this street trying to get in watching them allow other cars in while they think its funny to keep turning you away. They create extremely dangerous conditions on the local road as well with there management of this facility. Why pay for bad attitudes when there are plenty more waterfalls to see for free along the way. Worst experience in Maui. read more

This place is terrible! They have coned off most of the road side parking and now control the small parking area as you come around the turn. This area only holds a few cars. The parking attendant just wave you back to the road furiously if you try to park there. It's not worth the time or money for this totally lackluster trail and the garbage people who run it. read more

This is a nice waterfall hike at the beginning of the Road to Hana, definitely not the most spectacular one on the way but it's a fun hike and is great for those who don't want to drive the whole road and are just looking for a nice hike on the island. We were staying on Ka'anapali and knew we didn't want to drive the road again, so we just did this hike and then turned around and checked out Paia and went back to our area in the afternoon. From leaving the hotel we were gone about 4 1/2 hours. As far as the trail itself, there are numerous waterfalls. To start, you'll know you're in the right place if you see the snack stand with coconuts and lots of cars. When you first start the trail, you'll hear water almost immediately. If you turn left at the porta potties and then left again at the sign with arrows, there's a path going down to the bottom of 2 waterfalls. You can swim in the pool there and there were people jumping off the rocks. The path down is very easy and you can get to the falls within about 5 minutes of starting the trail. However these falls aren't the most impressive in my opinion. Most people are trying to hit a lot of sights on the road to Hana so they'll see these and leave. However if you continue up the gravel road past the porta potties, you'll come to a big gate with a warning sign. It looks far scarier than it should be. Go beyond the gate and continue walking. You'll have to cross the stream and then keep going, just follow the path and don't go where the signs say it's farm land. Finally (really only after about 10-15 mins) you'll see a taller waterfall in the distance where the jungle narrows, but you have to walk through the stream to get there. Because of this and the earlier crossing you should take water shoes. I had flip flops and I'm lucky that I have good balance so I was fine, but the rocks are super slippery so I would recommend water shoes instead. If you take your shoes off completely it's so slippery it's really hard to pass through and hurts your feet. This waterfall is really stunning and it's a great place to swim (although it is a bit cold!). We had a great time on this hike and had a great time going to eat in Paia after. Would highly recommend whether you're doing the Road to Hana fully or not. read more

Also stop by the truck and buy fruit support local business they have great fruit . If your staying at Lahaina and dont feel like taking that long Hana drive then visit the Twin Falls! The trail was awesome and not long (beautiful)! I do suggest that if your not that healthy or used to hiking or not used to hiking through small rivers then this may not be for you. We had an awesome time and the waterfall was majestic (cold though - however it was December). I highly recommend visiting this waterfall. BTW - you can climb to the top of the falls and jump! Not the best around This is one of the first big stops on the Road To Hana. There's a fruit stand and lots of parking spaces. Can't be missed.... We came here after there was heavy rain the day before, so we knew, there would be a bit more water than usual. The walk to the Falls is quite nice, very green and has nice bamboo sections. It feels like you're in the Jungle or the Rainforest. Lots of Mosquitoes too....bring some repellent. The Falls and ponds were a bit disappointing. The water came pouring down, so it was just one big fall instead of two. But still, we were thinking: That is it?? It's ok for walk and a few pics. But later on Hana Hwy there are much better Falls and places to visit than this one. So, walk in, take some pics and move on. Better things are still to come and you don't wanna waste your precious time, you will need it. Park as close to the entrance as possible. There are lots of break-ins, so you don't wanna park in a too remote spot. Don't leave valuables in the car....that goes for the whole trip! read more
