We enjoyed our stop at Twin Falls. We didn't experience any of the rudeness complained of by other visitors. While perhaps not warm or particularly welcoming, the staff was professional and parking was easy. The hike to the upper falls was a relatively easy 20 minute walk. Although it could be done in flip flops or sneakers, I was glad we had water shoes as our feet got wet (even submerged) and the stream bottom is rocky. Swimming in the upper falls was neat and made for some good photos. The middle falls was the hardest to access due to the terrain, and the smallest, but was worth it because it was the least crowded. The attendant was on her phone waving us in, and pointing to go driving up. We couldn't really HEAR her and we were asking how much to park up there and can we just pick one of the many parking spots down below? She began pointing to go up, but we opted to drive to the side to ask others parked below why they were parking there below thinking this may be for the food cart, which sounded good. We weren't sure of the prices or if we wanted to commit, but we decided to turn around and try to go up. Suddenly she was very animated and off her phone & frantically stopped us and said we were "TOO LATE!!!", because we weren't immediately following her initial commands. I was trying to communicate that we just wanted information, but she was loudly talking over me the whole time. I told her to take a deep breath and that she would be ok. As she continued to prattle on and jabber-talk over me I suggested that she STFU. She said "WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?!!", like that was the worst thing anyone has ever said to this hussified codger. She called me a "dick" and "rude" and said we are not allowed to be there now. Totally fine by me.! She was the rude one. I don't appreciate parking attendants on a power trip -and the only way you can get their attention is to talk back to them. Suddenly they are VERY engaged! If I could give zero stars, I would. We had an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience. Upon arriving, we were told by an aggressive and rude parking attendant that the lot was full and instructed to park on the street. However, as we walked in, we saw multiple empty spots just past the gate and noticed others parking there and entering the park. When we approached the entrance on foot, another staff member informed us--and another family--that only those parked in the lot could enter. We tried to explain that we were told to park on the street by the attendant, but were dismissed. I was told flat out that I was lying, which was incredibly offensive. A manager named Tulsi came out and instead of trying to de-escalate the situation, she was confrontational and dismissive. We were asked to leave and return later. On our way back to the car, we spoke to other visitors who shared they were also told to park on the street. Still, no one working there would acknowledge the mistake or take responsibility. We came back 90 minutes later to a parking lot that was clearly not full. I tried to express how upsetting the earlier treatment was--especially being called a liar in front of my two young children. Rather than apologizing or attempting to make things right, Tulsi called over the same attendant, and they both insisted they had done nothing wrong. We were told again that we weren't welcome. As a family who traveled to Maui and was genuinely looking forward to this experience, we were deeply hurt and shocked by how we were treated. There was no kindness, no hospitality--just blame, denial, and unnecessary hostility. We left and will never return. It's incredibly disappointing that such unprofessional and unwelcoming behavior is allowed, especially in a place that relies so heavily on tourism. Unfortunately, this incident now overshadows what should have been a beautiful memory, and it's what I will share anytime someone asks me about our time on the Road to Hana. read more

The worst part was probably the start since the entrance was blocked by orange cones. We made three u-turns before a parking spot opened up and an attendant let us in. Like a hall monitor, someone stood at the gate requesting for $10 before waving us in. There was a mediocre fruit stand at the entrance if you didn't bring any snacks. When entering, the pathway either led to the left or straight. Porter potties and the further waterfalls were located straight while the still beautiful waterfall was found on the left. We only walked for a few minutes before reaching the first waterfall where we observed many people swimming and jumping off the cliff. Honestly this first waterfall was already worth the admission fee and was easy enough to reach for families to easily hang out here. Upon going straight, we past the smelly restrooms that took us out of the immersion. After 10 minutes, we followed the sound of water that led us to a shallower "waterfall" with leaning trees. This location wasn't as ideal to swim in but rather to be admired on the nearby benches. The largest waterfall was located 15 minutes further along and I recommend having water resistant shoes or sandals to cross passes of water. Unfortunately we weren't prepared and we walked barefoot on the rocky grounds to reach the final area. The last waterfall was the tallest with the most impressive water pressure. It was surrounded with a cave and was very serene near closing hours. Nothing was too difficult but personally I found the initial waterfall to be quite rewarding out of the three. When we returned during the evening, no one was charging parking fees so although I thought the experience was worth $10, it could be free after 4:30PM. The people regulating the fees truly detracted from the experience but I highly suggest checking out Twin Falls when they're gone. read more

We had planned on skipping this on the road to Hana and only hitting it on the way back if there was time. But we ended up pulling in since the parking lot was not that full around 8am. We are glad we did as it was fairly empty. It was $10 to park and we got a great spot. There are three pools/falls and in hindsight, we should have gone all the way to the last one first and worked our way back. The first one (closest to the parking lot) was about a 5 minute walk. There It was small with small falls and people were cliff jumping here. The signs all say not to, but no one was enforcing it and everyone was doing it. The second pool (another 5 minutes) was bigger and higher, and we saw ti from the top only. There were people jumping here, but we wanted to make our way to the third pool. There are signs before starting the trail a sit ia about 20 minutes one way to get back there from the second pool. The signs also warned of hard terrain, but we did not feel it was that bad and had my elderly mother with us, and she did it no problem. Your shoes will get wet. This pool was the biggest and best for swimming and had the most beautiful falls, but no one was jumping. There was room enough to go behind the falls and hang out. The water was so refreshing! We spent a little over an hour here, but could have done it in an hour knowing what we know now. read more

I'm rating Twin Falls Trail five stars on Yelp because I thought it was the perfect hike for our family of eight, spanning the ages of five to 76. We needed something relatively safe and easy, but still fun and "rewarding" at the same time. This fit the bill. If you're looking for an easy, casual hike to do in Maui, check out Twin Falls. My brother-in-law found this place on a paper map that we got from Marriott's Maui Ocean Club concierge. The drive from Lahaina to Haiku, where Twin Falls is located, took a little over an hour. The drive was scenic and included the coastal highways of Honoapi'ilani Highway (Hawaii Route 30) and Hana Highway (The Road to Hana), plus a drive through downtown Paia. Paia is perfect for a pre or post-hike snack or meal. We visited on a Wednesday around 3:30pm. When we first approached the parking lot from Hana Highway, it was full, so we had to drive on by. We turned around and by the time we made it back to the parking lot, some spaces had opened up. It cost $10 cash to park. There were parking attendants and the parking fee was enforced. According to Twin Falls' official website (https://www.twinfallsmaui.net/location/), there are 55 paid parking spots. Twin Falls is located on Wailele Farm which is privately-owned and operated. This is not a public park. The Twin Falls Farm Stand was closing up by the time we arrived. The Farm Stand has been in operation since 1997. Below were the hours of operation during our visit. * Farm Stand: 8am-3pm * Lower Waterfalls: 7am-6pm * Upper Valley: 8am-5pm We only went to the Lower Waterfalls and that was plenty of fun for us. We brought snacks and swimsuits. We went swimming in the first pond and waterfall that we came across. The water was cold, but not unbearable. Despite what I read online, Twin Falls was *not* crowded at all. In fact, when we came across the first waterfall, there were only two other people outside of our group. Maybe we lucked out or went at an off-peak time. I also read that this is the first stop/hike on The Road to Hana, which also makes it popular. The trails leading to and from the Lower Waterfalls, along with the ponds and waterfalls themselves, were beautiful. There were lots of colorful and indigenous flora to look at; bamboo forests and unique trees, plants, and flowers. The environment was calm and serene. We encountered mosquitos in front of the entrance to the Upper Valley trail, so consider bringing bug repellent. No bug issues at the Lower Waterfalls, though. There are no snakes or dangerous animals. The Upper Valley hike is over one mile, roundtrip, uphill. Twin Falls also goes by Ho'olawa Valley. I never could figure out how the name "Twin Falls" came to be. There are more than two falls and I'm not aware that any of them look alike. There is a $10 parking fee which gives you access to three sets of waterfalls, though the best one by far requires you to cross over water. The legendary "Road to Hana" is filled with beautiful roadside waterfalls, crazy hairpin turns, narrow one-lane bridges, wonderful lookouts, the best banana bread ever, and itchy mosquito bites. In preparation for our return to Maui and to make amends for being MIA from Yelp for a long time, I have decided to finish most, if not all, of my drafts as long they are still relevant and the app will still include my photos. We were visiting the town of Pa'ia (did somebody just say Mama's Fish House?) so we decided to give our "Road to Hana" journey an earlier start than scheduled. We went to the Ho'okipa Lookout then drove our rental car here at the Twin Falls Trail. Luckily, a few people were already leaving so we were able to easily find a parking spot. We went past the closed snack stand by the gate then followed the trail and the sound of the water to the Twin Falls Overlook. It was a bit muddy since it had been raining the past days. The walk was short to the top of the falls so we carefully trekked down to the bottom to get a closer view. The current was strong above so the water was dropping at a furious rate! Unfortunately, dirt was getting carried along the way so the water was not really all that clear. Nonetheless, the falls were still a pretty sight. I initially gave this review 4 stars because I thought the condition of the water fell short of my expectations, but I can't fault Mother Nature for that because we came after the rain. Since it was already late in the afternoon, we decided to pass on the hike to the Caveman Falls. The west side of the island was more than an hour away so we had to get going. Nobody is Hawaii is really doing a good job at social distancing, as most of the people that are willing to come here right now, or have the money have the whole "privilege" attitude, but this spot was the worst. Family friendly trail for everyone! This is a great place to visit. Unfortunately the upper trail and waterfall can be closed depending on the weather conditions. If you are looking for an outdoor activity that is not too strenuous and taxing, this is the place for your family. Lower falls is where you will find the Twin Falls. Be sure to take the steps slow when the grounds are wet. Take plenty of pictures, take some time to unwind, maybe bring snacks and food to enjoy in the car or on a bench near the falls. In September 2022 my fiancé and I hiked this trail. We saw 3 separate waterfalls during the 2 hours we were at this location. You are able to swim in them. We advise some closed toed shoes for the hike and water shoes if you decide to swim. Please note parking is $10 and fills up fast so we advise getting there before 10am. We took a family hike here. 1, 2, and 4 year old plus several adults. Pros: * a good amount of shade. * 2 waterfalls visible within a short trail walk (10 min to 1 waterfall and 15 min to the other) * 3rd waterfall is labeled as "experienced hikers only" but it's not hard- just steeper and requires crossing some water * swimming areas available at all 3 waterfalls Cons: *moderate amount of mosquitoes There are port a potties near the juncture of the first and "upper" trails. If you want the easiest hike to a swimming experience, I would recommend swimming at the first/lowest waterfall. The descent down to the second waterfall is a lot trickier. - I'd say about 60-70% of the trails are shaded, but if you want to go in the swimming pools at the bottom of each waterfall there's a lot of sun there. - It's an easy walk to see the bottom 2 waterfalls, and there's a 3rd waterfall that has an entrance to the trail saying it's for experienced hikers- that's untrue. There were some water crossing areas and it was a steeper grade than the easy hikes to the bottom 2 but it wasn't hard by any means. - Mosquito repellent is a good idea if you're the type of person whom mosquitoes find extra tasty (like me) -- I got about 8-10 bites but others in my party got 0-1 bite. None of us had repellent. read more

If you are running short on time and looking for an activity to axe from your jam-packed Road to Hana itinerary, Twin Falls is definitely skippable. It is a good and easy walk for families with small children but the falls are pretty underwhelming compared with what you can see if you plan on driving most of the Road to Hana. You can swim underneath the falls so if you are into that, I guess it can be worthwhile. If you know that you are going to hike the Pipiwai trail or at least drive by Wailua falls, save the $10 (parking fee) and pick up some Aunty Sandy banana bread or Coconut Glen's ice cream instead! read more

This was stop #2 for us on the Road to Hana. We got an early start (started at sunrise), so we pretty much had these falls ourselves (there were maybe a few other people). This was a cool little area to explore. If you want to get a good view of the two falls, it requires climbing down a bit off of the main path, but it was pretty easy to do and worth it to really be able to see the falls. The falls are surrounded by basalt columns which took me back to our travels in Iceland. You can also walk across the top of one of the falls which was neat. The trail continued on, but there was a gate that was closed since we were there so early. I could have spent longer exploring, but after 30-45 minutes, we hit the road for more stops along the Road to Hana. read more

0 stars for the parking attendant/supervisor. We drove over two hours with our young children to visit Twin Falls, only to be treated rudely by the parking attendant. Ultimately she wouldn't allow us to enter or go to the falls at all. While we understand that the parking lot was full, there was no option to wait for a spot (even on the outside public roads), and when we waited along the road, the attendant became unnecessarily aggressive. She told us there was "nothing we can do" to enter the park and forced us to leave. Our children were in tears, and the whole experience was incredibly disappointing. This place seems completely unprepared to handle visitors, especially families. Beware if you're coming with young kids--you're likely to face frustration and poor service! read more

Twin falls just about 20 min outside of Paia is a beautiful place to visit. Super busy in the morning and there is limited parking so if you are being waved on just keep circling back as they only allow cars in as 1 leaves. Parking is $10 and they do take cards. Wear water shoes, sandals with a heel strap or old tennis shoes as you will be crossing water to get to the top falls and the small to medium size rocks are harsh on your feet. You can where flips, but it's a little precarious in a couple spots. The main hike is about 20 minutes through a beautiful tropical trail lined with lush and bright colored plants. The twin falls at the end of the hike has a large pool of water that you can swim in to get to the falls or the cave behind. Bring swim suit, shoes and camera. On the way back, we stopped at one of the other falls were you can jump off the rock face into the pool. We've been there when the water was only waist deep, so check before you make the plunge. Water was about 6' this time. Diving in I just barley touched the bottom as I made the turn upward. read more

Very breathtaking view of the waterfall~ The hike up to the top is worth to see, only a 45 min hike there and back, roads are pretty flat. Twin Falls is one of the stops to Road to Hana. Entry fee is $10 per car (cash only), there is a small fruit stand, portable bathrooms, and two trails to see the waterfall. Along the way to the waterfall, you walk through the fresh greenery and cross some small rivers. Water is a bit cold but you can go in the waterfall pool area. Definately recommend wearing sneakers since it gets muddy due to the rain. We came around 09:00 AM and there was still parking, when we left around 10:30 AM, parking was full so highly recommend coming here early. If you've never been to Maui you should definitely stop at Twin Falls. It's a great place for families. It's really shading. There are two easily visible waterfalls. Those two are easy walks/hikes. The third waterfall is further back and a much harder hike. We didn't go to that one because of the warnings. We had my kids and my in-laws with us so we needed easier stuff. It does cost $10 to park now and parking is limited. I don't mind since the money is going to upkeep of the property. There is a small food stand and lots of porta potties. read more

This is one of the more accessible falls on the road to Hana. I went on a Saturday, and surprisingly it was not very crowded. On the way to the falls you will past a snack stand where you can get drinks and ice cream. You will then pass some of the largest bamboo that I have ever seen. The falls are free to visit, but they do have a place that you can drop donations. There are two paths that lead directly to the falls. The one to the right is a very step decent and will take some agility getting down and back up. The path to the left is a bit easier to get up and down. It is more of a hill. The falls are awesome. They are very powerful. There is a rope above the falls that people were swinging and dropping from. There is also low hanging tree branches right above the water where people were hanging out and just lounging. If you are getting in the water, I would strongly reccomend some aqua socks. the bottom of the pool can get rough and could tear up your feet. This and the falls at mile marker 10 are my favorite in Maui.I like the ease of getting to this one as well as the close vicinity of the snack bar. At first I was a little turned off to the 10 dollar parking requirement , but, given everything else requires reservations , I was thankful to only have a 10 dollar requirement . The walk is a small incline about 1 mi up but the scenery and the waterfall ( which looks like something a model from Sports illustrated should be swimming in ) were totally worth it . The upper falls they said was a mile and 30 mins, but it seemed faster, our 2.5, 5 and 7 year olds had no problem. Main thing to point out is that the parking attendant was extremely rude. Obviously doesn't like her job.. No ALOHA, SMILE or MAHALO. Very condescending. When we pulled up she snapped and only said "$10". After reading recent reviews from other people it seems to be a pattern, possibly same attendant?? She then demanded that we park closer to the car beside us (even though I was already parked 2 feet from the next car, similar to other cars in parking lot- completed on her watch). To avoid any ambiguity it would be a logical suggestion to chalk your car spaces in the morning time before visitors arrive (like in the attached picture from a different location on Maui). Two stars awarded and that's really only for the flowers and scenery... the waterfalls that we saw were really only a trickle (see attached pictures)... The overall vibe did not seem welcoming to tourists especially if you weren't local. On this occasion locals got priority and were treated differently even though we were paying visitors. Great Big Falls and Pool with Cave Behind it and easy walk to it. It's about 10 minute hike to the second falls. Don't expect clear blue water on the in the pool. The soil here on Maui is the color it will be. Greenish Brown. You can jump off the first Falls and climb back up all the rocks. I wouldn't recommend jumping the second bigger one since it's not very deep, although I did see a local do it once after heavy rains made it deeper. read more

Here's the skinny: the road to Hana has about 6.1 million waterfalls. Everyone has a recommendation on the best, but I'd recommend trying several with the understanding that by about the 3rd or 4th one in, you are a bit sick of waterfalls. There's literally one around Every. Single. Hairpin. Turn. That being said, we did a couple really smart things (I'm totally patting myself on the back here!) First--I downloaded an app called the Shaka guide, and I used it to "plan" my road to Hana day. And by plan I mean I turned the app on, he guided us, and we stopped when it sounded good. IT WAS AMAZING. I'm not being paid to advertise this app--I'm just giddy about how simple and fun it made our day, with virtually zero pre planning on our part. The Shaka guide recommended twin falls, and we did it! Second--we actually did the R2H in reverse. Which was awesome because the Shaka guide came with both routes, so still worked, and we missed all the big crowds at the beginning of the day. We literally only saw around 20 cars total before noon. Then we finally caught up the the tidal wave of people who got up at 6am to do the traditional R2H. BUT, we were still lucky because we were headed the opposite direction from them, so roads were very rarely congested. And, this means we hit Twin Falls in the afternoon when it wasn't crowded. We hiked to all three falls, and found beauty and fun at each area. The middle falls were my favorite, as we had those all to ourselves and it was so rustic and beautiful. Our kids were able to get in and play, too. The only thing we missed was the food truck outside the falls--they had packed up and gone. But as we brought snacks and drinks, this wasn't an issue. read more

First stop road to Hana. Quite a lot of people, but lots of parking available. There are port a potties that were not cleaned recently. Twin falls was pretty cool. You can watch it from across the pool that forms at its base. Hike down the stream to the left and there is a bridge that you crossed over when you parked that has some respectable graffiti on it. There is a 3rd fall called Rope Swing that is down the path straight (right of twin falls) that was closed when I went late July. Cool bamboo clusters make for a nice photo opportunity. You can see the first waterfall from the trail, but it's a slippery slop to come close to it. It's so much easy to access the second waterfall. Bring your swimsuit to take a dip here. It'll be worth it. We skipped the last one since we started going to Hana pretty late. read more
