We had a wedding to go to in Vernon and from the pictures, this place didn't look too bad. DEAR LORD we were wrong. In one night, we saw three separate parties pull up, check in, and immediately check out because of the filth. If you don't believe me on how disgusting this place was, just check out some of the pics I took of their "clean" rooms. And if that's not bad enough, the owner was extremely rude. We had to take our own garbage out because they didn't do it once. When I put our trash in the only visible garbage can outside, she scolded me for not taking it to the dumpster around back because she "didn't want to do it". Isn't that your job? Like a very simple part of your job? I asked for towels the next day and she said "DID YOU EVEN LOOK?? I LEFT THEM IN THE ROOM!" She didn't. I asked for some toilet paper and she rolled her eyes at me lol I can't even make this up. We bought cleaning supplies to clean the room ourselves because they refused to clean it. Anyways, place is a dump. Owners are rude as hell. They should be thanking anyone that's willing to stay there.

There is a Walmart, grocery store, and Dollar Tree close by and various fast food places to grab a bite to eat. Rooms & Building - The room we were in was a suite so there was a bedroom and living area with an additional bed for the kids to sleep in. We appreciate the suite styled rooms to give us more space to spread out. Rooms also come with a kitchenette. The building was clean, the parking was plentiful, and the building was in great shape. Amenities - There is a basic pool available for use. We swam in it and it was moderately warm. I hate cold pools and will not swim in them but I was able to handle this one. Food - The complimentary breakfast was a classic mid-level offering with an egg option, meat option, waffles, pastries, oatmeal, juice, coffee, yogurt, and fruit. Staff - Everyone we met was professional and friendly. We rode out a tornado while staying the night and staff were calm and composed the whole time. Special shout out to the staff on that! Price & Final Verdict - Price was great for everything we experienced while staying here. I would stay here again.

However, the true beauty in this home was not the home or antique pieces, Bernette, the owner, is the true gem when you stay at Shadowlawn. She goes above and beyond for her guests and truly cares for the people staying in her home. Mississippi is known for hospitality and Bernette epitomizes the spirit of hospitality in Mississippi. When you talk with Bernette, it is like talking with a friend you have known for years. The breakfast she makes is five-star quality and made from scratch. The rooms were very comfortable and well-designed and decorated. We slept like babies. We also were staying during a MSU gameday weekend, and the rates for our stay were great, especially considering the alternatives were very pricey and do not come with Bernette and her amazing personality and attitude. We highly recommend anyone visiting Columbus or Starkville to stay with Bernette at Shadowlawn. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Columbus because we already know where we will be staying, which is Shadowlawn. Why go anywhere else?

When we arrived we were told there was nothing available on the 1st floor and they we're renovating therefore less rooms were ready and available. I called this hotel twice before the arrival and no one communicated anything to me about renovations. I had clearly stated what we needed. My 85 year old parents had to go to a 3rd floor room with 2 double beds and a bathroom with no walk in shower, and no seat. They refused to do anything else for them. They argued with us and offered no solutions. Very disappointing to say the least. My room is on the 4th floor. Photos tell the story. Yuck!

I went to front desk and spoke to Mitchell first he was so understanding and took 100% accountability and told me it was the front desks fault and not mine which I appreciated so much. he offered me a partial refund or an extra room comped So I took the extra room which I could get the next day, so next day checked in to the second room and who ever was in it before us wet the bed so we couldn't stay there... so got a 3rd room from Yolonda this was not a great situation at all and only thanks to Mitchell it was sorted with a lot of moving about, I also spoke with the cleaner about the wet bed situation and she made the room up and blew me off, so I'm telling everyone to make sure your room is correct when you arrive at front desk Day 1 cleaner took our dirty towels and did not bring back clean ones or make the beds or empty the trash No towels at pool area had to ask for the pool towels at front desk twice I don't recommend staying here with children

This hotel checked both boxes and since I have stayed in Columbus many times in the past, I was looking for something new. In the last year or so, I have slowly been reintroduced to the Wyndham brand and furthermore, the La Quinta brand itself. Many moons ago in the '90s, La Qunita was my goto as I had a hotel budget for business trips and often stayed in some rather not so great La Quinta properties around the US. Fast forward to the modern era, I have decided to give this brand another shot and its hotels like the MSU La Quinta that make the decision easier. The MSU location is one of the great examples of where this brand is going. The new-look La Quintas such as this one is modern, bright, with more amenities to cater to the business, conference and family crowd of hotel visitors. I found this hotel had a great welcoming decor in the lobby and the guest areas on the first floor. The fresh complimentary coffee and lemon water were a nice touch. The fitness center was also very pleasing as it had enough modern equipment to get a good workout in. The gym was clean, the equipment newer and functional, with the extras needed for various types of workouts. My room layout was quite pleasing as it had two sections, one where the bed is and two, an archway separating the sleeping area from the living room area, which gave the room the feel of a larger space. The bed was big and comfortable, there was enough room on the desk for a laptop and other electronics. The room had a Cubey in it so, there were some extra ports to plug in my phone and other USB ported items. The rooms wifi signal was strong with very little lagtime which is a must for the business traveller. In the large and spotless bathroom, all the towels and accessories were neatly laid out and tidy. I was able to have a long, hot shower after a workout in the gym. The breakfast area was another great feature as there was plenty of room for multiple guests to sit down and eat. The food choices consisted of hot and cold cereals, oatmeal, and fresh bread, bagels, and pastries. The hot food had many choices as well, so you won't go away hungry after visiting the breakfast area. The staff are very attentive and clean up and replenish the food quickly. To conclude, this was a very good stay, in a well-managed hotel. The money I paid for my one-night stay, it was worth every dollar. This is a great choice if you're in the area, I can't see why anyone would be disappointed.
