I have taken many of the adult dance classes. Love the single class payment option and drop in options. Very open and welcoming atmosphere. The instructors are so considerate and compassionate about everyone's dance levels. I grew up dancing but havent danced in years so this was test for me and worth ever nerve it took to start again. The studio is really easy to get to. There is a parking lot and street parking. The website is really easy to navigate and very clear with what is available and when. Wanted to let the adults know that Meg's Wed morning Adult Ballet is great! It is a lot of warming up, stretching, and loosening up the body. We do bar, but it is an easy beginner (or starting over again) bar for adults. It does work some muscles I have not worked in more than a decade, which I am really enjoying. Meg is a positive and encouraging teacher which also brightens the beginning of my day. I highly recommend for adults looking to get back their flexibility and tone muscles in buttocks, and thighs especially. read more

BEWARE!!! If I could give -0 stars I would...WOW...I'm shocked at what I saw today! The teacher didn't realize I walked in early and kept hearing her yelling and being VERY demeaning towards two 4 year olds. 2 kids were crying and were shunned out of the class because of not paying attention?!!! Parents didn't hear or see her yelling, because I was the only one there in the back. After class, kids apologized to the teacher and asked for a sticker and the teacher still said, "NO" How low is that?!!!...come on, 4 years olds are supposed to be having fun not put down. It's an after school activity that is supposed to be fun. As a parent you want to pick up your child happy not crying! Grudges against a preschooler?! It's a shame other teacher was very nice, but will definitely be pulling my kid out of this class. By the way, the mean teachers name is Celadon Wood. read more

I was looking forward to putting my daughter in ballet classes since she was born. The time finally came for her to be old enough to attend Twinkle Toes. We attended the free trial class and I was super disappointed. My daughter started crying and we were asked to step out. The whole experience was frustrating. Also felt very uncomfortable because the instructor/owner was not welcoming towards us at all. I really felt a racist vibe to be honest. Felt disgusted and sad that my daughter had to experience this. Honestly glad my daughter isn't old enough to realize what racism is. Would never recommend this place. Good introduction to rejection. I enrolled my 2-year old, who loves to move and dance. The first couple of classes went well. My child was engaged as the experience was new, but after several classes she became less attentive and was not listening well. Again, she's 2. Miss Christine became impatient with my daughter's lack of attentiveness. After class she handed out stickers to each child--except my daughter, apparently because she didn't "earn" it. It is evident that this teacher has very little experience in early childhood education. We stopped going here after this incident as movement for toddlers is supposed to be fun, creative, and expressive. On top of this incident, the class style is very rote. The same thing in the same order every week. Of course toddlers are going to get bored. Keep your little ones away from this place. read more

Had my child enrolled for 2 years & yes, I admit, Karen the owner, is EVERYTHING the one-star-Yelpers are stating about her. It's unfortunate, because she works with children, but it needs to be addressed. She treats the children & families different amongst each other. Karen was only happy and sincere...when it was time to PAY registration fees! My child didn't learn much about technique & build on skills, compared to her new instructors/school. Only down side is in the summer it is ridiculously hot in there I feel bad for the kids, there's no A/C which sucks because I feel we pay enough for our kids to have it. Our daughter has pretty much been with the company since Karen started it. It has been wonderful to watch it grow and Karen is very sweet......but, sorry to disagree with everyone here...the company has grown too big for Karen to manage with the little help she has. The classes are now too large and it has mostly degraded to Karen trying to teach a class while also trying to wrangle children who can't stay focused. This is a huge parent problem as well. Too many parents take their kids in, check out, and show no interest in controlling their kids or encouraging them to participate. Our daughter has always taken her ballet really seriously (I guess it's just her thing) and Karen told us she would be good moving from Saturday to Wed. where the class was "more technical" with just a few kids. In the end week after week more kids got piled into the class until it became a chaotic overbooked mirror of Saturday. Twinkle Toes is a really fun laid back environment for toddlers where there isn't an expectation of learning much more than how to have fun and dress up in a tutu, but when it comes to kindergarten and up, not much can be accomplished in this company. Our daughter has participated in 2 shows over the last year, both of which were totally a mess. They were cute, but no one knew what to do, where to stand, even after close to 4 months of learning the routine in class !? All in all, it was a fun start for her, but for the money (at about $130 every 6-8 weeks for 1 insanely packed, crazy class a week) we will have to be moving on. Hopefully with more staff and smaller classes that are broken into smaller age brackets ( no 3 year olds with 8 year olds) Karen can get the company back on track : ) read more

Stay away! Stay away! Do not enroll your kids to take dance here! Stay away! This is a late review but as I read nothing has changed and not enough people speaking up! Ok Where to begin. I saw the reviews and saw others complain obout discrimination but thought it was exaggerated review. I enrolled my daughter for the ballet class on Saturday morning's ANYWAYS. She was enrolled in the parent and me class. I never even signed up for a trial class because i figured this place would be amazing and since they were having a special and the business was so close to my house, it was perfect. Or so i thought. We arrived to our first day of class and keep in mind this was the beginning of summer so it was hot! Well when we arrived I noticed they had an industrial fan that was turned on. I just thought to myself "oh ny gosh no A.C." but continued to be optimistic. When i went over to see where i could put our gym bag down they only had a hand full of chairs those old auditorium chairs that are bolted to the ground. Again didnt mind just kept being optimistic. My toddler confused at to what was going on. We then both went to where the teatcher was and introduced ourselves. The teacher didnt even come up to us or anything (red flag) but i let that go. We sat down with the rest of the class. And when we sat down the floor was uneven and it had like this plastic black material that was cheaply taped on top of the original floor. It was black and so dirty. It was disgusting. Again still trying to be optimistic. We started warm ups and some kids were running to the fan and the teacher seemed frustrated so she turned it off. It got so hot everyone was sweating and the kids at this point started to get frustrated. The teacher continued the class. We got to a part where the teacher handed out stuffed animals, she gave every child different ones. She would give some 2 toys and some just one. My child got one and the ugliest one. Through out the class she would take time with some students but never with my LO. Skipping to the end when the class was over, the teacher handed out stickers rather then handing similar stickers or stamp on hands she would pick and choose the stickers. She gave others the larger size and my toddler the smallest one. I didn't think anything of it, i just let it go. Come the following week. Saturday we arrive early because i wanted a chair to put my bag on and parking is horrible. Class started we said Hi to the teacher no response, this time fan was off, floor still very dirty. Teacher focusing on other students and not my own. Again props handed out my LO handed just one. While others got 2 or more. The teacher continues and teaches other students and not my own. Class over, hands out stickers again her choosing each one, gives my LO the smallest one. I was bothered but didnt say anything. The following week we arrive and its a different teacher. Miss Dina. She was amazing paid attention. said Hello, focused on each and every one and when class was over gave each student a sticker and somewhat similar but gave the students positive feedback. So i didn't mind the dirty floor and no fan. Our next class came around. It was the same teacher from the previous classes. Miss dina was there but was recording and taking pictures. Turns out the teacher we have had from the beginning was the owner, Karen. I was so surprised becuase her being the owner should treat her clients much better. Well floor still dirty no where to sit or place bags except on the floor. It was so hot and the fan was off. This class they handed out fairy wings. Karen gave out the wings and gave my LO and another child wings but all bent and one wing had a hole in it. While the other kids got wands my LO and another child had to share. I started to see the other kids with the wands and in better shape wings were Caucasian and this other child and my LO latino. The end of the class karen handed out stickers but my LO did not get one becuase she said she had already put them away and another class was already starting. (We had gone to the bathroom). I then see another parent and child approach karen and she gives the child a sticker and a hug! I was upset! I quuckly put on my shoes and we left. I still had 3 classes left but never went back! So much discrimination at this place. The floors are always so dirty. No parking and no A.C.! Stay away! This business should not be open! Either the owner needs to educate herself on how to treat her clients or shut down! read more

My daughter has been dancing here for the last 3 years and we love it. The studio has a small, community-centered feel to it. The ambiance of the space is creative and inspirational. The teachers are all knowledgeable and great with kids. Many dance studios can be stuffy, strict, and rigid, but the studio owner here does a great job of balancing fun and creativity with developing dance skills. I highly recommend it. read more

My twins have been going on and off for 3 years or so and they love it. The teachers are kind, yet very professional, so I'm happy with the training they're getting. Plus, Twinkle Toes has a variety of classes, so we've tried Tap, Ballet, and hip-hop. It was nice for the twins to shake things up. My family loves Twinkle Toes. I have two girls in classes here and I have also taken adult ballet. I really love the experience here - my girls are very different in that one is serious dancer and the other does it for fun - this studio caters to both. The committed dancer is in the company class which is super focused and technical. Karen and her fellow teachers take a lot of time and attention to instruct the girls on correct form and to help each of them grow as dancers. But there are lots of classes that are much more laid back and perfect for my daughter that is looking for an less formal outlet to express herself physically. The atmosphere is fun and hip and homey - my girls feel right at home and so do I. And super convenient for Highland Park residents. read more

Miss Celedon represented this dance studio and traveled to my daughter's school in Beverly Hills once week. In the year my daughter attended she learned the basics of ballet and only had positive experiences that affect her to this day. There did not appear to be favorites...This instructor was professional and I feel some of these other reviews are unfair. I have never met Karen, and I have never been to the actual studio, so I cannot speak for that. read more

My daughter has been in Karen's ballet classes since she was 2 1/2 and she's now 4. She loves going every week and it's been so fun to see her grow as a dancer. They recently renovated the back area to create two studios, which is great. My daughter dances around the house and loves to do her ballet poses and stretches at home. Karen is patient with the students, but strict when necessary. I would definitely recommend this dance studio to others. She also puts on a nice recital twice a year. read more

My family loves this dance studio. My oldest daughter began attending their modern dance class in January of 2014. Her dancing quickly became a form of self-expression; our shy little girl began growing up. She became more confident with her body and movement by June when she performed with her class at the studio recital. I now have both of my girls (ages 5 & 7) enrolled in ballet and modern dance. Warning!!!!!!! This place is a complete waste of time. She plays favorites and your child will not get a fair chance unless your in her "favorites" circle. My child performed in her recital recently and her performance was cut short at the end because Karen felt the need to bring everyone on stage before the last act had there time to perform. Parents were scrambling around and shuffling kids around while our children were still performing. Every other child had there chance without an interruption. This was a complete sham. Come here if you want your child to be treated second rate. This should be about the children and not about her personal profit margin or her friend circle. She may have good intentions, but bad execution. read more

We have had my 3 year old daughter in two ballet classes. Our first experience was awesome. The teacher was great and my daughter loved it. The second time around was disappointing. I called to ensure I was putting my daughter in the right class since she was between age groups. I registered for what I was told was the best class for her only to arrive the day of class to be greeted by a different instructor who was rude and frustrated. She informed me that my daughter was too young for the class. I'm not one to be easily annoyed or complain, but I was bothered enough by the exchange to email the owner to address the issue. I never heard back...which was another disappointment. The rest of the classes were hit and miss since we couldn't find the right fit for her level. It's with a heavy heart that we won't be going back to twinkle toes because it does a lot of other things very well. I wish the studio the best but, again, we won't be going back. read more

This review is for the 3-4 year old ballet/tap class. The Good: This class was very fun and airy in the very beginning. There were a lot of activities included that assisted the children in learning certain ballet/ tap techniques. When the assistant was helping the main instructor, the class seemed to work much better in terms of control and direction. The price is okay, but there are other places cheaper for the space and amount of days included. The Bad: The class seemed to digress into one that had less control and discipline. I understand that the instructor is not a babysitter, but it is their job to observe and pay attention to the behavior of children in their class. Some kids would be pushing other kids, interrupting her when she was talking, elbowing others so they could be first in line. Several times I witnessed the victim forced to move to another star (spot) or to the back of the line, because no one was paying attention. Again, you must be totally aware of you students to have full control and so everyone can learn at the same rate. On occasion, the daughter ( I am assuming) of the instructor would be at the studio and would disturb the rest of the class by interrupting. I do feel for Karen, because I am sure it is hard to balance both, but when you are charging people to teach their kids ballet, you shouldn't have outside distractions. The class just became to disruptive and loose. It was upsetting to see such a wonderful beginning turned into what was witnessed towards the end. Overall: The studio can be a nice size if there are only 6 kid or so. If there are more than an eight you might want to rethink it. Plus, I don't think that they can handle too many kids. This class was very fun at times, but when there were distractions and no discipline involved then it was frustrating. Our little one said it was fun, which I agree she had. But this place could be so much more if they took a step back and fixed the issues they have. read more

My 2.5 year old loves her ballet classes here! I feel like they are developmentally appropriate; they involve lots of make believe with just the right amount of structure. Miss Celadon is very good with this age group (2-3 years). She provides just the right level of control required to keep a room full of toddlers involved and having fun, without it feeling overbearing. I also appreciate that she provides kind feedback to the children when it's needed, on topics like waiting your turn, respecting personal space, manners, etc.. This allows the parents to truly sit back and enjoy the magic of their little girls twirling around the room in tights and tutus, without ever feeling like you have to jump in to handle/prevent anything. Overall, I am so happy that I purchased the class! It was well worth the money and we will definitely do it again. read more

Hi I felt it necessary to write a review after my experience here.I came in for a free trial class as stated that they offer on their website. I called 1st and was given a day and time to come in with my 2 year old for a toddler ballet class.I walked in with my daughter and stood directly next to the teacher karen and was not acknowledged or better yet ignored. finally I got the attention of one of her workers/teacher who was pleasant and asked me if i was here for the trial class. karen began telling off her worker/teacher about a dance move she taught the kids and said that it looked bad and to fix it and just acted rude to her teacher right in front of us.before the class started I asked karen if I could record the lesson with my camera she said yes,but than started acting weird when I set up a little tripod in the corner of our seat by the couch,she told me that the kids were going to dance there which turned out to be a lie,because they came no where near that corner and she said that it was mostly for my kid anyway,which was a pretty indirect statement about my tripod placement.she should have just said no from the start and not lie about the tripod being a bother anyhow the class began and my child was too shy too join,so we watched and I encouraged her to go in, she only went in when I was standing near her so I recorded my child with my camera in hand and I stayed near and she became more comfortable,I have to agree with another persons comments about them not communicating to the children to not push each other because a little girl straight up pushed my daughter in front of everyone and not the teacher nor the parent said anything to the girl which was disturbing and made it seem like the teacher didn't want to get involved.at the end of the class karen approached me and told me that I was not allowed on the dance floor and that she only let me because it was my 1st time and then she told me that this class wasn't for us and that I should maybe try her mommy and me class,but that she didn't know if i could make it because it starts at 9am,1st of all she doesn't know anything about my schedule to make that assumption. then she gave another girl a tutu right in front of my daughter and told her that she was the best in class, and my daughter just looked on like she wanted one. and here comes the #1 REASON I WILL NOT RETURN OR RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL,THAT TOWARDS THE END AND WHEN EVERYONE LEFT BUT US, MY DAUGHTER KEPT RYING TO TALK TO THE TEACHER AND KAREN AND THEY BOTH COMPLETLY IGNORED HER,I COULDNT BELIEVE ITNOT ONCE DID THE TEACHER OR KAREN TRY TO MAKE A CONNECTION WITH MY DAUGHTER SO SHE COULD BE COMFORTABLE HERE AND ENJOY THEIR TEACHINGS,THEY DIDNT GIVE HER THE TIME OF DAY AND THATS WHY IM WRITING THIS REVIEW BECAUSE ITS OBVIOUS THAT NO ONECARES ABOUT THE KIDS AND THEYRE ONLY IN IT FOR $$$$$$$$$ read more

I am sooooo happy we have found Twinkle Toes! Karen is amazing I completly adore her! Her teaching assistant Ms. Celedon is also really great with the little ones. My daughter is turning 4 and has taken classes there for 3 sessions now. Her awareness of her body and her movement and dance skills have grown so much since she started. And so has her focus and self-dicipline. When we first started I had to leave and go for walks because my daughter would spend more time running to me and sitting in my lap than dancing. When I would leave she would have amazing focus. Now if I want to I can stay and she is able to maintain focus through most of the class. My daughter is very rambunctious so I put her in the creative movement class and it fits her personality so perfectly. She gets to do spins and jumps and ballet moves and hip hop moves! Also, Karen is a mom of a young girl herself so she truly "gets it", her prices are affordable and I don't feel ripped off. I have looked around at many many places and so often the price for what you are getting doesn't feel like a good value. I totally feel like I am getting GREAT VALUE at twinkle toes. read more
