I've always wanted to try Twisted Root especially when the Animal Rights Coalition at Tech goes or when Hub City Veg invites me, but the thought of not knowing what the order and a restaurant calling you by another name made me even more skeptical. Who knows, I don't. However, when my best friend chose to eat burgers over vegan Mexican food. I was a bit bothered, but knows he loves burgers and usually eats them every chance he gets. So, here we are. The guy at Cinnaholic tells us that Twisted Root has different flavors of pickles. I'm excited about that. We get there and surprisingly one there's one vegetarian burger. They should have two. Anyways! The flavor is ok, but the burger itself is falling apart. I wish there was more spices or something to bring the flavor out. All I can taste is chickpeas, quinoa, avocado, bread (buns), lettuce, and tomato. Bleh. Meh. I was hoping for more than that. The different flavors of pickles were good. The bread and butter was my favorite. The nastiest was ranch. Too salty. Fries were legitimately seasoned to the tee. My friend loved his American burger. Great atmosphere. read more

Since this location opened, I feel like the quality of the food has gone downhill. The burgers always taste very plain and has little to no seasoning. The pickle station and the tables are usually messy with random fries and Ketchup smears. I actually contacted their customer service department and told them about the lack of quality and very messy restaurant, the person who responded to my email said "they will work on it". I'm on the hunt for a good burger and checking out all the places I can and TRB fell really short despite the reviews. The atmosphere is really cool and relaxed and I enjoyed that a lot. Coming in this location was a bit tricky since their main entrance is towards the walking side of the apartment building they're under. We spent about $40 for 2 burgers, 2 sides, 2 sodas, and 1 milkshake. One bite in and I knew my search was long from over. They have different meats (rabbit, venison, etc) so maybe that and the bar is what attracts people here. The food and drink to me was bland and not exciting. read more

Awesome burgers ! I was in Dallas for work for a week and was recommended to come here for their burgers. Was I happy that I did ! They have a great pickle bar! Which Who doesn't love pickles ! The bread and butter pickles were my favorite and they also had an interesting barrel of ranch pickles and a few more. I had the freshman 15 burger which included a fried egg on top. Yummy ! Overall, good burger and shake. It's a little more modern and hipster of an atmosphere for a sports bar. I liked the concept of ordering your food than sitting down, bug it wasn't obvious to order in the back room. Signage could be a little better when you're coming in from the front. Twisted Root, always a reliable burger in a place that isn't trying too hard to be fancier than a burger joint should be. The regular menu options are all solid, I personally like the freshman 15 (bacon, egg, AND fries on top wowow), but go with your heart, or stomach, and you won't be disappointed. Fries are good, not mind blowing, but for $2 not a bad price. They also have a rotating menu of burgers of the month and game meats that you can sub into the regular burger menu. I haven't tried the game meat so I can't speak to that, but it's a cool option if you feeling adventurous. Unlike other locations I've been to there is no large menu at the counter, only the smaller paper ones. It took me a second to know how to order and where to look, a small detail but I don't like starting my meal with confusion. Visited for lunch. Service was great. There wasn't a chicken tender option for our picky kids, but we found something else to try. One child tried a Cobb salad, but we didn't see pickled red onions listed on the menu so she said the juice from that was all over the fried chicken she had added to it. We shared 2 sandwiches. Food was not done well. We ordered door dash and an entire meal was missing. Call the store & the manager said that they highlighted everything in front of the Dasher. I LOVED this restaurant and will definitely go back. From A to Z, I was wowed. The restaurant itself is cool-looking on the inside and plenty spacious. They have sodas on tap that are custom sodas, not like name brand Coke or Pepsi, and they were really tasty (I tried the black cherry and cream sodas). Their food menu had lots of enticing burger options, and my fiancée and I both enjoyed the burgers we picked. As a lover of sliced pickles, I was pleased to see they had a pickle bar with different flavors of pickles for free. That was a really nice touch and a great add to the meal. (I also had fried pickles, which were great, and not too expensive). Overall the food and restaurant were terrific and the price was very reasonable given the quality of the product. We picked this joint because of Yelp and SO glad we did. As burger obsessed people on a business trip - we needed a fix. This place had a super cool vibe, and the restaurant had this sort of industrial look to it. Clean and bright, the tables are all self seating. We went back into the area where you order the food... after walking by the pickle bar (YES, a Pickle Bar!!!) The burgers can be made with beef, turkey or vegan OR game meat! But I am not that brave so I went with good old beef. I had the Verde Burger with onion rings. total Burger happiness. Customer service was horrible. While I was waiting for my food to be cooked I watched them kick a black man out for no reason other than he was homeless. The man followed the rules allotted by the business "no shirt, no shoes no service". he was completely clothed and paid for his food but was sent out by the worker. No matter what, that person paid for their food and followed the rules of the restaurant and was still turned away. That same sign also says "we like people!" Twisted Root has amazing burgers, fries and sauces and a large variety of beers and pickles! I've tried the veggie burger here, and the patty is amazing! Lots of seeds, which give it a crunchy texture, and black beans and veggies that make it filling. My company rented out a majority of the restaurant for an event and it went smoothly. Their venue was spacious, their environment is laid back and casual, and their staff took good care of us by constantly replenishing out apps and drinks. I've also come here several times with smaller parties and had a great experience. The food is always fresh, the fries are good, the portions are big. Oh and their barbecue sauce may be the best I've ever had. I put it on literally everything. read more

As soon as we walked in I was amazed by all the pickle types by barrel! I had to try them all. I ordered the vegabond burger with the regular bun. I appreciate that they have a veggie burger that doesn't mimic the taste of meat (impossible burger) since I'm a lifelong vegetarian. The texture of the patty was perfectly crispy on the outside with a hearty black bean and quinoa mixture. Also loved the patio bar ambiance with plenty of seating! When we were seated we were given a little card to place on our table so our server knew where we were. We thought it was hilarious that it said Blake lively. Fun way to identify tables vs. numbers. I decided to go here since I think I've seen it in airports but have not tried it out. I am a big burger fanatic and I came here for the vibes and it was in a cute little part of carrolton. The place was big but very empty I think it was a Friday night. I ordered my food and all the burgers are cooked the same I think we'll done or something. I did not enjoy my food the way I normally would have just because the burgers well a little dry and there was not a lot to it. I ordered a shake and it was very sweet so I gave it to my bf. Being a huge burger connoisseur and having heard great things about Twisted Root, I was really looking forward to trying them out. Unfortunately, I left with more than a tinge of disappointment. For starters, they cook their burgers well-done, which they describe as having a pink line through the center. They advise you to let them know if you don't want the pink line (presumably that you want your burger cooked more than 'well done'). My burger was past well done. No pink. To my taste, a properly cooked burger is soft and moist. A well-done burger is firm and dry. My toppings -- cheese, bacon and egg -- didn't cure the problem. What I loved about Twisted Root was their pickle bar. Five flavors of pickles free for your enjoyment. And their soda fountain is pretty awesome as well. Especially the black cherry. The decor at Twisted Root is also pretty spectacular. The open spaces, design and vibe are top-notch. I only wish the burger quality could match the rest of the amenities. read more

At first when I walked in, I felt lost because all I saw was the bar. Got me confused and thinking "I'm really ordering burgers at a bar???" I stood there for a moment, scanning around for self-answers because it seems as if there are no waiters and hostesses? After I figured that you have to go through the doors that looked like it led to the kitchen, everything went smoothly. Food was great! This time we tried The Verde and The Western. I requested The Verde hamburger well done and that proved to be a good decision, compared to last time. Hamburgers are not my favorite food group, but The Verde was good, the green chili was mild but delicious, the pepper jack packed the right amount of punch. The only item I would change would be the avocado on The Verde, it was seasoned like guacamole and the hamburger did not need that extra flavoring. My company spoke well of The Western. As sides we had the loaded fries which were good but not delicious. The reason for the 3 is the custard. The only reason I visited Twisted Root a second time was to indulge in the custard. We tried the Hershey's chocolate shake, and the Vanilla shake. Both looked and tasted like a cup of melted regular soft serve. The food seems to lack flavor and generally doesn't even look appealing when you receive it. The restrooms are probably the most disgusting I've ever seen, and the restaurant overall seem to need some cleaning. It seems like this restaurant has some real problems and it doesn't seem like they really care about improving the food or maintaining a good dining environment. Maybe going a little too hard for that rundown dive bar feel. If you're in the area and looking for a burger, I'd recommend Barrell and Bones across the street. read more

I was pretty stoked when I found out that a Twisted Root was going to open so close to me. Whether it's their many takes on a burger or their "adult only" shakes this place keeps me wanting more. Occasionally, you'll find that they have some game meats including buffalo, ostrich, kangaroo and boar just to name a few. I only wish these exotic meats would be available all the time. They have a set of pre-topped burgers, which actually comes cheaper than adding your own custom toppings. I love the Big Tex and find that I always default to that. There are a lot of variations to choose from so definitely take a look from that list! Don't forget to complete your order with a side of fried onion strings or fried green beans. They're fries are decent, but if you have these other two things to choose from there's no reason to go that route. And yes, the fried green beans are what you think they are, but they taste nothing like the stuff your parents stuff down your throat as a kid. If you haven't tried these things before, you're missing out. There's also a self serve pickle bar where you can grab as many flavored sliced pickles as you want. There are four different flavors so just take a few and see what you like most. Don't be shy. It's all free! read more
